RUSSIAN CINEMAS GROSS $1 BILLION FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
It’s a good year to be a Russian movie fan - the country’s film industry officials are boasting their first $1 billion year at the box office.
The success of blockbusters like Avatar and Shrek 3D has given Russian cinemas a big boost in the past 12 months and takings have rocketed past the $1 billion mark for the first time ever.
Avatar, the world’s most successful film ever, grossed $116 million (GBP77.3 million), while Shrek Forever After took in $51 million (GBP34 million) in Russia, according to Daily Variety.
