POTTER CAST ITS SPELL AT U.S. BOX OFFICE

HARRY POTTER has worked its magic on the U.S. box office chart once again, opening with a spell-binding gross of $125.1 million (£83.4 million).
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 1, scored the franchise’s best debut to date, ahead of 2005’s Goblet of Fire, which took $102.7 million (£68.47 million) in its first weekend of release.
The seventh Potter film raked in a whopping $24 million (£16 million) from midnight showings alone when it opened across America on Thursday night (18Nov10).
The stellar figures toppled animated hit Megamind from number one - the Brad Pitt and Will Ferrell-voiced film slips to two with $16.2 million (£10.8 million), while Denzel Washington’s Unstoppable takes third place with $13.1 million (£8.73 million).
Russell Crowe’s new thriller The Next Three Days scrapes into the top five at five with an opening take of $6.8 million (£4.5 million), behind comedy Due Date at four with $9.2 million (£6.13 million).
