BANKS FAN HANDED PERMANENT RESTRAINING ORDER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:21 pm

Model-turned-TV personality TYRA BANKS has been granted a permanent restraining order against a fan she alleges has stalked her since 2006.
The America’s Next Top Model host asked a judge to grant her request for a protection order against Marten Williams, Jr., who she claims is a "mentally unstable celebrity stalker" who has harassed her and members of her family for four years.
In documents filed in Los Angeles, Banks alleged the 39 year old has a history of mental illness and believes "he killed George Bush Jr. and that Michael Jackson is alive and living in Long Beach".
Banks also claims Williams, Jr. has bombarded her with "ominous frightening letters and items".
A judge previously ordered Williams, Jr., who was arrested for trespassing at Banks’ Beverly Hills home earlier this month (Oct10), to stay at least 100 yards away from the star and her family until a hearing on 28 October (10) to determine if the temporary order would be made permanent.
Williams has now been ordered to stay least 100 yards from Banks and her family for the next three years.

IT’S ‘BUSINESS AS USUAL’ FOR ZETA-JONES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:48 pm

CATHERINE ZETA-JONES has moved to silence speculation about her husband MICHAEL DOUGLAS’ health by flying to China for a celebrity golf tournament, insisting "it’s business as usual in our family".
The Oscar-winning actor was diagnosed with throat cancer over the summer (10) and he recently completed a course of radiation and chemotherapy.
Douglas was pictured looking thin and frail earlier this month (Oct10), prompting speculation the star’s health has taken a turn for the worse.
The Wall Street star’s representative denied the rumours and Zeta-Jones has now shrugged off the gossip by leaving her husband behind in New York while she embarks on a trip to China to take part in the Star Trophy celebrity pro-am tournament.
When asked about her husband’s health, the Chicago star replied, "It’s business as usual in our family." Zeta-Jones also admitted playing golf helps take her mind off her worries: "There’s nothing better than just having nothing else to focus on than a still white ball, and nobody’s looking. I find it very therapeutic, and even if you can’t hit the ball that particular day, there’s a privacy and a kind of zen quality to golf that I love."

KID ROCK: ‘TYLER HAS DESTROYED ROCK AND ROLL’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:48 pm

KID ROCK has aimed a furious rant at AEROSMITH frontman STEVEN TYLER over his "stupid" new job as an AMERICAN IDOL judge - accusing the singer of destroying the "sacred American institution of rock and roll".
The rocker recently joined the panel of the hit TV talent show along with Jennifer Lopez, following the departure of Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi.
But Rock is fuming about Tyler’s decision to sign up for the reality series, insisting the star is making a massive mistake.
He tells Entertainment Weekly, "I think it’s the stupidest thing he’s ever done in his life. He’s a sacred American institution of rock and roll, and he just threw it all out the window. Just stomped on it and set it on fire.
"I think whoever’s advising him… we should bring back the guillotine, or whatever they call that thing. And if it was himself, he needs some serious counselling. I love him to death, but I gotta speak the truth."

PETA OFFERS TO SPONSOR LOHAN’S REHAB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:45 pm

Officials at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have offered to help cash-strapped LINDSAY LOHAN pay for her rehab treatment if she eats a vegan diet for the remainder of her stay.
The Mean Girls star has been in and out of jail and rehab this year (10) and is currently serving a three-month stint at California’s Betty Ford Clinic after failing two court-ordered drug tests.
Lohan’s recent probation report stated the actress fears she will be unable to pay the $53,000 (£35,333) fees for her rehab stay because she "can not afford" it.
PETA executives have now reached out to Lohan and offered a solution to her financial problem - they will give her $10,000 (£6,667) if she cuts animal products from her diet until she is released from rehab in January (11).
They have also promised her another $10,000 (£6,667) if she remains a vegan for a year afterwards.
PETA President Ingrid Newkirk tells the Los Angeles Times, "Lindsay Lohan is the most visible example of a real addict, and if she can conquer her addiction to meat and cheese, absolutely anyone can. If she does, she’ll not only save animals but save her own health, and she’ll be an example to the millions of people who watch her every step."

CHURCH EYES OPERA MOVE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:43 pm

Former child star CHARLOTTE CHURCH wants to return to her classical roots - she’s planning to relaunch herself as an opera singer.
The Crazy Chick hitmaker, 24, first found fame as an 11 year old when she impressed TV viewers in Britain with her powerful vocals, and went on to achieve global fame as a classical singer.
In her late teens, Church moved into pop music and overhauled her squeaky-clean image before putting her career on hold to start a family with rugby star Gavin Henson.
She released her first album in five years earlier this month (Oct10) - and Church has now revealed she plans to re-train as an opera singer when she becomes too old for pop.
Church tells U.K. TV show This Morning, "I’d like to go back and train properly as an opera singer because although I sang classical music I was never an opera singer. I would absolutely love to go and do an opera. But that’s for later - in my 30s."

DUFF STUNNED BY FAN TATTOO

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:43 pm

HILARY DUFF was left aghast when a fan asked her to autograph his arm and then returned hours later with a tattoo of the signature.
The singer/actress agreed to scrawl her name on the arm of a young man before an appearance on U.S. TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live.
And by the time she had wrapped up the interview, the fan had come back with a permanent reminder of his meeting with Duff.
She tells Jimmy Kimmel, "The first time I was here on your show I signed my first body part. Some kid said, ‘Can you sign my arm?’ I’m like, ‘Whatever, I’ve signed weirder than that.’ "He went and got it tattooed while I was doing your show, in Hollywood. At the end when I walked out to get in my car he showed me his arm and it’s all pink and bubbly because he had my name tattooed on his arm! "I was like, ‘That is dedication and please, I really don’t need your mother calling and screaming!’"

BENNINGTON LOVED SAW MOVIE ROLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:42 pm

Rocker CHESTER BENNINGTON is delighted with his latest role - he’s been immortalised as a victim of twisted serial killer Jigsaw in the new SAW movie.
The Linkin Park frontman is a huge fan of the bloodthirsty film franchise, and he jumped at the chance to play a man held in a gruesome "do or die" trap in Saw 3D, which hits cinemas on Friday (29Oct10).
And the What I’ve Done hitmaker found it easy to slip into the role - he has suffered so many injuries in his life, he knows how it feels to be paralysed by pain.
Bennington tells Kerrang! magazine, "What I love about the Saw films is the incredible brutality. This is more than (Halloween killer) Michael Myers stabbing people. This is drawn-out, psychological torture where you have to hurt yourself, but it’s really hard to pretend to be in agony when you’re not feeling any pain.
"Luckily, I’ve experienced a tonne of physical pain in my life. I’ve hurt my back, broken bones, and torn ligaments, so I know what excruciating pain feels like and could draw on that. The shoot was long, but it was cool to be involved." In the Saw movies, psychopath Jigsaw places his victims in elaborate traps where they face a choice of a slow death or an unbearably painful route to survival.
Bennington is refusing to give details of his character’s fate - but promises movie fans his role is not for the squeamish.
He adds, "I can’t even tell you if I die or not! Let’s just say that my wife and I have watched all of these movies together, and she was very close to puking when she watched me film my scene. It’s f**king horrible."

LLOYD WEBBER’S THEATRE SALE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:39 pm

SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER is to sell off four of London’s top theatres for $75 million (£50 million).
The composer has agreed a deal with a consortium led by businessman Michael Grade to hand over control of the Palace, Cambridge, Her Majesty’s, and New London theatres, all in the British capital’s West End.
Lord Webber’s company, the Really Useful Group, still owns the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the London Palladium, and will retain its 50 per cent stake in the Adelphi.
The impresario took the "gut-wrenching decision" in order to reduce the company’s debt following his prostate cancer battle last year (09).
He says, "My commitment to composing, producing and theatre ownership remains as strong as ever."

POWDERFINGER’S SKYHIGH GIG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:39 pm

Australian rockers POWDERFINGER took to the skies for their latest gig - they performed a set on a flight Down Under on Thursday (28Oct10).
The band, who will split when their farewell tour ends next month (Nov10), flew from Sydney to the Gold Coast on a Jetstar plane to raise cash for the Yalari charity, which funds education for indigenous children.
Fans paid up to $9,770 (£6,513) to enjoy the high-altitude show, which saw the group play at the front of the jet in front of 140 passengers, while cabin crew members reportedly danced in the aisles.
Singer Bernard Fanning says, "There wasn’t much room up there for big-stage moves. I couldn’t pull many shapes. This tour we’ve done lots of things for the first time, in terms of places we’ve been to and the size of the tour, but I never expected to be playing a gig in the sky." But the rockers remain adamant they will still go their separate ways after their last concert in Brisbane on 13 November (10).
Fanning adds, "It’s getting closer now, but we haven’t been thinking about it because we’re so busy. There are years and years to get emotional and look back. Maybe the last show might get to us a bit, but we’re purely focused on trying to put on the best shows."

ALLENDER SCARED PATIENTS IN BIZARRE HOSPITAL TRIP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:39 pm

CRADLE OF FILTH guitarist PAUL ALLENDER scared fellow patients when he was hospitalised after a gig last summer (09) - because he was admitted to the medical facility in full costume.
The band, known for their spooky onstage disguises, cut short their set at the U.K.’s Bloodstock music festival last August (09) when the rocker was hit by a large piece of candy which was hurled on stage.
Allender was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, but he didn’t have time to change his outfit - and his gory get-up unnerved other patients.
He says, "It f**king hurt, but that’s not the worst of it. I guess due to the obligation to follow procedure, they had to strap me to a spine board and haul me off to the hospital in an ambulance. So there in the middle of the hospital I lay in full stage gear and make-up. You could hear people whispering, ‘He’s one of those from the gig over the road…’ Two hours of that all for the doctor to say I was fine. That was the first time something like this ever happened to me."

GILLESPIE AND MATLOCK JOIN ‘SAVE 100 CLUB’ CAMPAIGN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

PRIMAL SCREAM frontman BOBBY GILLESPIE has joined calls for London’s iconic 100 CLUB to be saved from closure, branding the venue "a living piece of history".
The tiny underground club is set to shut its doors for the last time at the end of the year (10) because of increased running costs.
A campaign is underway to save it, and Gillespie has now added his voice to the fight, insisting it’s essential to preserve a venue with such "cultural value".
He says, "When it comes to rock and roll, The 100 Club is the best room in London. No contest. Rock and roll was created in small, sweaty clubs, that’s where the music sounds best. At The 100 Club there is nowhere to hide, you’ve got to have the chops to deliver, you’ve got to mean it, there’s no room for fakes. You’ve got to be good to play there and carry it off. Trial by fire.
"That’s why it’s important to keep The 100 Club open. It has as much cultural value as any art gallery or museum. It’s a living place of history. Don’t let it die." Hundreds of British bands - including the Sex Pistols and Oasis - got their big break after playing sets at the 100 Club, and Pistols bass player Glen Matlock is adamant the venue should remain open to keep up tradition.
He says, "(The owners) very kindly let us do a residency there. The first time we played, there was about six to 10 people, but by the end of the residency, it established the band as the forefront punk band and the place was crowded out. You had to queue around the block to get in!"

SWIFT URGES FANS TO READ

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

TAYLOR SWIFT gave a talk to hundreds of schoolchildren on Wednesday (27Oct10), urging them to pick up books and start reading for pleasure.
The country star visited the headquarters of educational organisation Scholastic Inc. in New York City to address around 200 young pupils, who had been given a break from lessons to attend their idol’s lecture.
Swift took to the stage and told the youngsters about her favourite novel, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, and encouraged them to take up reading for themselves.
She said, "It doesn’t have to be a big, thick, long book. You don’t have to pick up something that looks scary." She added, "I think that smart kids are the coolest kids. (Without books) you can let little things pass you by, little details. Like, say you’re driving down the road and there’s just this really beautiful autumn tree and it has these gorgeous orange leaves. You might just let that pass you by if you have never read books that describe how beautiful they are, from somebody else’s perspective." Swift also treated the kids to a short performance with her band at the end of the talk, performing her new single, Mine, according to the Associated Press.

CYRUS SPORTS SLEEVE ‘TATTOO’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:36 pm

MILEY CYRUS has sparked rumours she’s shed her clean-cut image for good after she was seen out in Los Angeles with what appears to be a massive tattoo on her forearm.
The Hannah Montana star was seen enjoying a night out with friends at the Bourgeois Pig restaurant in Los Feliz on Tuesday (26Oct10), but it wasn’t her super-short mini-dress that turned heads - the 17 year old stunned onlookers by sporting a huge piece of body art stretching from her left wrist to her elbow.
It is not known whether the tattoo is permanent, a temporary transfer, or a henna marking that will fade over time.
Cyrus already sports a number of inkings including the word ‘Love’ on her ear and the phrase ‘Just Breathe’ on her chest.

MANIC STREET PREACHERS SCRAP MORE SHOWS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:34 pm

Welsh rockers MANIC STREET PREACHERS have scrapped two more concerts as frontman JAMES DEAN BRADFIELD battles laryngitis.
The band cancelled a show in Birmingham, England on Tuesday night (26Oct10) after the singer fell sick.
They were expected to return to the stage at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on Thursday (28Oct10), but the gig has now been axed after doctors diagnosed the singer with acute laryngitis and ordered him to rest his voice.
The band’s second London show on Friday (29Oct10) has also been scrapped, Bradfield says in a statement, "I would like to personally apologise to the fans. Nothing makes us feel worse than having to postpone a show. We were particularly looking forward to playing two nights at Brixton as we have such special memories of previous gigs at this venue. To say we are gutted about this situation is putting it mildly!" The two concerts have been rescheduled for January (11).

HEIGHTS TO CLOSE IN NEW YEAR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:34 pm

Tony Award-winning musical IN THE HEIGHTS is to end its run on Broadway in January (10) - with a series of performances starring creator LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA.
The show opened in New York’s famed theatre district in February 2008 to huge acclaim, garnering a slew of awards later that year and recouping its $10 million (£6.66 million) production costs in less than 12 months.
But declining audience numbers have convinced bosses to halt the show’s run in January after almost three years, according to Variety.com.
The musical, which centres on the lives of residents of Manhattan neighbourhood Washington Heights, will end on a high note - creator/composer Miranda will return to the cast for the final 19 performances.

CAPRICA SCRAPPED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:33 pm

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA prequel CAPRICA has been axed after less than a year on TV screens.
The Syfy network show, starring Eric Stoltz, debuted in America in January (10) and returned to the small screen this month (Oct10) after a mid-season hiatus.
But fans will now have to wait until next year (11) to see the final five episodes of season one - TV bosses have axed the series with immediate effect amid declining viewing figures.
Syfy network spokesman Mark Stern says, "We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series. Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season." The last few episodes will be broadcast in the first quarter of 2011.
