WEST GRATEFUL FOR CAREER BREAK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:50 pm

KANYE WEST is convinced his recent career break helped him "develop as a person" because he was finally able to heal following his mother’s death in 2007.
The rapper hit headlines last year (09) when he stormed the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards and ruined Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. The subsequent criticism forced him to flee America and step away from the spotlight.
West spent time in Japan before moving to Italy to intern for fashion house Fendi and later working on his music in Hawaii.
And the Stronger hitmaker is convinced spending time on his own helped him cope with his mum’s tragic passing in 2007, because he threw himself into work after the tragedy and never had time to grieve.
He tells U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, "I left America. I stopped doing music all together. I just took some time… It was the first time that I got to stop since my mom had passed. I had never stopped and never tried to even soak in what… had happened. It was time to take a break and develop more as a person, as a creator, and focus more on my thoughts and my ideas and what I wanted to bring to the world."

ALLEN WILL AVOID WACKY BABY NAMES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:47 pm

Pregnant LILY ALLEN has vowed not to follow the celebrity trend of giving her baby a "stupid" name - because her boyfriend would suffer jibes from his straight-talking colleagues.
The Smile hitmaker is due to give birth to her first child, a son, in January (11) and admits that since doctors told her the baby’s gender, she and her partner Sam Cooper have been considering what to call their offspring.
The couple has drawn up a list of potential names - but they plan to avoid any that are too bizarre as construction worker Cooper would face the derision of his workmates.
Allen tells Stylist magazine, "The whole thing became a lot more real to me when I found out it was a boy. You start to think of names, and then you can go shopping, and it all feels like it’s happening.
"I’ve got a really stupid list of names, but I’m not going to show you. But, no, we probably won’t (use it). I think Sam is way too straight and traditional for that sort of thing. He’d get the p**s taken out of him (ridiculed) on the building site."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:47 pm

JODIE FOSTER is convinced her pal MEL GIBSON will be able to successfully resurrect his movie career following his recent personal problems as he is "the most loved man in the film business".
Gibson’s personal life was thrust into the spotlight earlier this year (10) when his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva accused him of knocking her teeth out during a fight in January (10). Tapes of their bitter arguments later surfaced online and hit headlines across the world.
His latest film offering, The Beaver, which is directed by Foster, is said to have been put on hold until Gibson’s troubles clear, but he has reportedly landed a cameo role in the upcoming The Hangover sequel.
And Foster, who appeared with Gibson in 1994 Western film Maverick, is adamant her friend will make a successful big screen comeback.
She tells Extra, "He is incredibly loved by everyone that’s ever come into contact with him or works with him. He is truly the most loved man in the film business, so, hopefully that stands for something."

SIR ELTON’S FEARS FOR BOYLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:44 pm

SIR ELTON JOHN fears SUSAN BOYLE’s fame will be fleeting, because she is too fragile to endure the "rigours of showbusiness".
The Scottish singer shot to fame on hit TV show Britain’s Got Talent last year (09) and her debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, broke records as it topped charts across the world.
Her upcoming second record, The Gift, already looks set to be another big hit after topping pre-order lists ahead of its release on 9 November (10).
But Sir Elton is adamant that Boyle, who was admitted to London clinic The Priory suffering from exhaustion after finishing second on the TV show, won’t be able to cope with the demands of superstardom.
He tells Britain’s Radio Times, "Susan Boyle was an endearing phenomenon, but I fear she might not understand the rigours of showbusiness."

PALTROW FEELING HER AGE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:44 pm

GWYNETH PALTROW is starting to feel her age as she sees coveted roles handed to younger actresses.
The 38-year-old Iron Man star is convinced there are less jobs in Hollywood for women over a certain age, and admits she feels disappointed when parts she wants are given to younger girls.
She tells Elle magazine, "There are a lot of roles that are OK, but there’s little that are really good. Sometimes you find out that something you really liked is going to someone 10 years younger." But Paltrow feels cheered every time she sees an older actress score a decent role.
She adds, "I find it heartening that Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock have been able to find and create amazing projects".

HOLLYWOOD WOMEN TURN OUT FOR ELLE AWARDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:44 pm

GWYNETH PALTROW, KATE HUDSON, HILARY SWANK and DIANE KRUGER were among the honorees at Elle magazine’s annual Women in Hollywood awards in Los Angeles on Monday night (18Oct10).
The glitzy ceremony paid tribute to the female stars for their impact on the film industry, and others who received a nod included Jodie Foster, Diane Keaton, Sofia Coppola and Kerry Washington.
Paltrow was presented with her prize by her Proof co-star Jake Gyllenhaal, who took the stage and told the crowd about working with the multi-talented actress.
He said, "Bottom line, she is not a mere mortal like the rest of us… She is an internet-savvy, award-winning, lifestyle guru, making all of us look lazy. She doesn’t just find a nice guy to settle down with - she marries a rock star and then domesticates him. She doesn’t just cook - she goes to Spain with Mario Batali and then domesticates him! She is not just a lifestyle guru, but she invents a whole new fitness movement and then convinces me to try it, and I do it, and I am, therefore, domesticated… sweating my a** off in spandex, which is humbling and embarrassing." One of the male guests at the event, Harrison Ford, admitted he was overwhelmed by the star-studded ceremony, because it serves as proof that women have secured their place as major players in Hollywood.
He tells the Associated Press, "(This event) came to be back in the days when they said, ‘There were no good parts for women’ and ‘Women aren’t highly regarded.’ (Now) women run Hollywood. Absolutely run Hollywood. And I’m glad." Foster, who is set to make her directorial debut with new Mel Gibson movie The Beaver, hopes to see more female directors gaining prominence in the movie industry.
She says, "It’s women directors that are the last hurdle, and we haven’t jumped over that. Now we have women studio executives, we have women producers. And, for some reason, that hasn’t really translated into much gains for women (directors)."

CHURCH SELLS ALBUM ON SHOPPING CHANNEL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:41 pm

CHARLOTTE CHURCH is using an unusual method to boost her record sales - the Welsh singer is selling her new album on a home shopping channel.
The 24 year old is making her pop comeback after taking time off to start a family and is hoping to hit the charts again with Back To Scratch, which was recorded with help from an investment company and will be released on an independent label.
And Church attempted to drum up some sales on Monday night (18Oct10) by appearing on U.K. shopping channel QVC to shift copies of her record.
Church sang several songs from the new album and explained her unusual method of delivering her work to the public.
She says, "It’s all about musical expression - commercial success and sales are very important and always great but they’re not the be all and end all any more.
"I would rather make really great music that I love that’s really heartfelt and means something to people rather than be on the treadmill of music commercial success."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:41 pm

ANDY SERKIS has reprised his role as late British rocker IAN DURY - he’s played secret gigs with THE BLOCKHEADS.
The Lord of the Rings star portrayed Dury in the biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll earlier this year (10) and told at the time how he had rehearsed with the singer’s former band to perfect the part.
Now he’s revealed he is still good friends with The Blockheads - and occasionally joins them onstage to perform their classic hits.

SUTHERLAND ‘NEVER RECOGNISED HER GREATNESS’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:38 pm

Late opera star JOAN SUTHERLAND failed to recognise her immense talent even after her legendary 40-year career, according to her mourning husband.
Sutherland died on 10 October (10) at her home in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, and her widower Richard Bonynge has opened up about his wife’s humble spirit despite her great success.
Bonynge, who conducted some of Sutherland’s later performances, tells the Associated Press, "(She) never thought she was anybody very special. I don’t think she ever recognised the greatness of her talents. It wasn’t a pretence on her part at all. She never really understood it." But Bonynge admits Sutherland had great expectations of herself - and insisted on retiring in 1990 when she felt she couldn’t live up to them.
He adds, "She felt that the public expected a great deal from her and she wanted to give them a great deal… She said, ‘I fear it’s getting difficult for me and I don’t want the public to ever hear that.’"

PROFESSOR GREEN APPEARS IN COURT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:38 pm

British rapper PROFESSOR GREEN has told a London court he was convinced he would die after he was stabbed in the neck last year (09) - and he even phoned his mother to say goodbye.
Anthony Jones, 25, is on trial accused of attacking the star with a broken bottle during an altercation at Cargo nightclub in Shoreditch, east London.
Prosecutors allege Jones lashed out at the rapper - real name Stephen Manderson - after he accidentally jostled one of the accused’s friends.
Green was left gushing blood from a large wound in his neck and he took the stand at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday (19Oct10) to tell how he feared for his life during the incident.
He told the court, "I was scared. Having been cut in the neck - I know what tends to happen when people get cut in the neck. I was extremely lucky. I phoned my mother and grandmother and said goodbye. I had been stabbed in my neck." Jones denies wounding with intent. The trial continues.

SWIFT IS WINNER AT NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS GALA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:35 pm

TAYLOR SWIFT was named Songwriter-Artist Of The Year at the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) gala on Sunday (17Oct10) - marking the third time she has won the trophy.
The 20-year-old country star picked up another prize for her mantle as she was recognised for her hit singles Fifteen, Love Story and You Belong With Me at the celebration in Nashville, Tennessee.
Accepting the honour, Swift said, "Since I can remember, my favourite thing in the whole world was a good story - going back to when my mom and dad would read me stories when I was little, and then discovering poetry in English class. Then I discovered this town called Nashville, where they tell the coolest stories. In my opinion, they tell them in the most magical ways.
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so generous with me. Whether it was telling fairy tales or sad stories or stories that were just about my life and what I was going through, you’ve been wonderful to me. And I’m having a blast telling stories." Later that night, country musicians Pat Alger, Steve Cropper and late songwriters Stephen Foster and Paul Davis were inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Singer Garth Brooks was on hand to salute Alger by performing acoustic versions of songs they have written together, including That Summer and Unanswered Prayers, and telling the crowd: "I love this guy, and me and him should not love each other. We’re as different as night and day can be. This poor guy has been tormented by me over the last couple of decades."
