Actress KATE HUDSON was born a boy - or so baby doctors thought in the delivery room.
The Almost Famous star’s mum Goldie Hawn was stunned when a midwife congratulated her on the birth of a healthy son when she knew her baby was a little girl.
At Monday’s (18Oct10) Elle Women in Hollywood dinner in Los Angeles, the Private Benjamin star recalled the happy day she gave birth to Kate in in 1979, telling Eonline.com, "I had a C-section… (and) I was lying there and they were slicing and dicing… (and) all of a sudden, out she comes and they say, ‘It’s a boy!’ And I was lying there going, ‘No, it’s a girl!’ "I didn’t know what she was. I just felt she was a girl… and I looked and them and they said, ‘Oh, no… it is a girl!’ I thought, ‘What part of her anatomy are you looking at to make a mistake like that?’" Hawn also told the website that little Kate was almost named Rebecca.
She added, "I was going to name her Rebecca because it was biblical and romantic and genteel and then all of a sudden, she punched me so hard in my you know where - truly where the sun doesn’t shine.
"I said, ‘Oh, my God! This is a Kate. This isn’t a Rebecca. This is a Kate!’" Mum Goldie was beaming with pride at the Elle Women in Hollywood gala, where her daughter was honoured alongside Oscar winners Gwyneth Paltrow and Hilary Swank, among others.

MERYL STREEP will portray ailing former U.K. Prime Minister MARGARET THATCHER in a "sympathetic" light in the upcoming biopic THE IRON LADY, according to her co-star in the project.
The Oscar-winning legend will take on the role of the famously tough ex-British leader, who divided opinion throughout the 1980s and early 1990s when she battled with trade union leaders and declared war on Argentina over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.
But Streep is determined to show Thatcher’s softer side in the movie, according to co-star Jim Broadbent, who will portray the ex-leader’s devoted husband Denis.
He tells the Associated Press, "Of course it will be a sympathetic portrayal, that’s what he was, he was very sympathetic. It’ll be a sympathetic portrayal of Margaret as well." And Broadbent is convinced American Streep is the perfect choice to play the steely Brit - insisting she’ll be as good at the English accent as his Bridget Jones’s Diary co-star Renee Zellweger.
He adds, "She’ll be fantastic. She’ll be as good as Renee Zellweger was playing Bridget Jones. For me it’s a real treat." Thatcher hit headlines again on Tuesday (19Oct10) after she was hospitalised as a "precautionary measure" due to an ongoing battle with influenza.

Actress TERI HATCHER is battling bouts of insomnia thanks to a debilitating shoulder infection that can’t be cured.
The Desperate Housewives star has become desperate in real life after learning she has a frozen shoulder.
She says, "I haven’t been sleeping well, or at all… because I have something called frozen shoulder. It is a real thing… It feels like one of those things that you see on an infomercial and you go, ‘That’s not real.’ "It really is extremely painful, actually… It (shoulder) doesn’t move.
"You can’t really solve it. Apparently, this is a condition that lasts for a year or two years and then miraculously goes away.
"The doctor said to me, ‘There’s, like, 40 per cent of people with certain diseases that get it… and then the other 60 per cent are just idiosyncratic…’ Apparently, there’s inflammation inside the rotator cuff, you really have trouble moving your arm." And the actress is learning not to act on impulse when she’s exhausted from lack of sleep after hacking off her hair.
Hatcher tells TV chat show host Jimmy Kimmel, "I’m looking in the mirror and I think, ‘Bangs, that’ll be a good idea!’ "I took a pair of scissors and just hacked it (hair) off… There’s a point where you go, ‘Wow, there’s really no going back at this point… I was in denial for about a day and then I called my hairdresser… and was like, ‘Please help me!’"

U.S. rocker RICK SPRINGFIELD has revealed he only owns half of the smash hit he wrote and recorded - but that’s been enough to buy him "several houses".
The singer/songwriter enjoyed worldwide success with ’80s anthem Jessie’s Girl but he doesn’t own the copyright of the song outright.
He says, "I only own half the song, although I’m the writer of Jessie’s Girl. I only own half the publishing. That was the deal that was made way back when I was kind of clueless about business." But he isn’t complaining - Springfield tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood, "It’s bought me several houses."

Soul star ERYKAH BADU has denied internet rumours she is expecting her fourth child - but confesses she is broody for another son.
The Bag Lady singer gave birth to producer Jay Electronica’s baby, Mars Merkaba, last year (09), and also has a 13-year-old son, Seven, and a daughter Puma, six.
After followers of her Twitter.com page began asking the star if she is expecting another tot, Badu vehemently denied the speculation - but admitted she is already eyeing a fourth edition to her brood.

Busty British model and singer SAMANTHA FOX has asked MOTORHEAD rocker LEMMY to walk her down the aisle when she weds longtime manager/girlfriend MYRA STRATTON.
Fox announced plans to stage a civil partnership ceremony with Stratton last year (09) and she dreams that when the big day comes, her unlikely pal will give her away in the absence of her late father.
The Touch Me (I Want Your Body) singer tells RockConfidential.com, "Unfortunately, my dad passed away 11 years ago and so I thought Lemmy would be great to give me away. It would be fantastic! He’s such a nice fella. He’s got a lot of character and lot of wisdom." But she knows nailing down Lemmy to a time and a place is going to be difficult: "This guy tours constantly… He’s never home. I think he’s one of the hardest-working people in the business." For those who might be surprised by Fox’s choice of wedding guest, she insists she’s been friends with the Motorhead frontman for years and they once recorded a song together.
She explains, "We met when I was 17… He was a fan of my (topless modelling) pictures.
"We started talking and he said we should do a song together… I went to his house and walked into his living room. I couldn’t believe that his back wall was full of my pictures from newspapers and magazines… We wrote a song and called it Beauty and the Beast. It was fantastic. Unfortunately, Lemmy and Motorhead got involved in litigation with their record label and wasn’t able to release new music for about three or four years. We couldn’t release that track, which was a shame.
"We became friends over the years. We always meet up for dinner if we pass while gigging around. He’s always been a mentor of mine… Lemmy is one of the gods of rock music. He knows the ins and outs of the business and if I ever needed advice he’s always been there for me."

MEAT LOAF, rapper LIL JON and country star JOHN RICH took over a pizzeria in New York as part of a TV stunt on Tuesday (19Oct10).
The musicians were among the celebrities selling food and offering tunes and chuckles at Famiglia’s Pizza for what is believed to be an upcoming episode of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice show.
Sugar Ray star Mark McGrath, David Cassidy and baseball star Jose Conseco were also part of the fun.
According to onlookers, Meat Loaf manned the cash register and McGrath tossed pizza while the other stars drummed up business and urged customers to buy food as part of a charity drive.

Scottish singing sensation SUSAN BOYLE has opened up about the bullies who made her teenage years hell in her new memoirs.
With teen tormenting a huge issue in the news right now following a string of bullying-related suicides in recent weeks in America, Boyle joined the celebrities raising awareness about the plight of victims when she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Tuesday (19Oct10).
Talking about her school days in her native Scotland, which she writes about in autobiography The Woman I Was Born To Be, Boyle told Winfrey, "(There was) name calling, burning my clothes with a cigarette and trying to trip me up - stuff like that.
"It wasn’t really human and I was being hit round the head and stuff like that. That was physical, but the most hurtful was the psychological things - name calling, repeated name calling… they weren’t very nice.
"It made me feel as if nobody loved me, (that) I didn’t really matter - I was just a target. Once you give bullies that power, then they’ve got a hold of you." Boyle wouldn’t always let her teen tormentors get to her: "I used to chase after them… ‘I’m gonna get you!’" And she revealed she used her singing skills to win over the worst bullies.
The Wild Horses hitmaker told Oprah, "You do well in something and you try and gain the respect of someone and that’s what I was trying to do with my singing."

The father of a 12-year-old boy allegedly assaulted by JUSTIN BIEBER at a Laser tag venue on Friday (15Oct10) has filed a formal complaint against the pop star, according to new reports from Canada.
The unnamed dad, who is reportedly a Vancouver, Canada lawyer, is determined to pursue potential charges against the Baby hitmaker and he has lodged a complaint with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
The cops have confirmed they are investigating a tag game incident at Planet Lazer in suburban Vancouver, but they have refused to name the alleged victim of the assault, who reportedly sustained a minor injury when Bieber allegedly ran into him, or his father.
The incident has marred Bieber’s visit to Vancouver, where he performed a concert on Tuesday night (19Oct10).

Former STEREOPHONICS drummer STUART CABLE died after choking on his own vomit following a three-day booze binge, an inquest has heard.
The rocker, who quit the band in 2003, was found dead at his home in Wales by his partner Rachel Jones on 07 June (10).
An inquest into his death on Tuesday (19Oct10) heard how the musician had started drinking at a rugby club three days before his death.
He continued to drink heavily the next day after his BBC Wales radio show until the early hours of the following morning. When he awoke he went straight to the same pub again and carried on drinking before returning home and downing vodka and whiskey. He was found dead on the floor the next morning.
Coroner Peter Maddox gave a verdict of accidental death.
A statement from his family says, "We can’t put into words how much Stuart meant to us."

Former DIVINYLS frontwoman CHRISSY AMPHLETT’s health has been dealt another blow after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The I Touch Myself hitmaker revealed in 2007 she was living with multiple sclerosis (MS), and admits the revelations she now faces a cancer battle has "thrown her for six".
She tells Aussie newspaper The Age, "It’s s**t and it’s unfair, but life is not fair - even rock stars get breast cancer.
"But there’ve been many girls before me who have dealt with it successfully. It’s easy to feel sorry for me, but I feel sorry for people who are suffering it alone." The 51-year-old Australian is seeking treatment in her adopted home of New York, but admits her MS makes fighting the disease extra tough.
She adds, "With my MS it makes my treatment a little more difficult. I can’t have radiation and things like that. But I have the best people here… I’m strong and I will get over this."

GORDON RAMSAY’s father-in-law has sparked rumours of a fallout with the fiery star after he stepped down as CEO of the celebrity chef’s business empire.
The Hell’s Kitchen star has suffered severely in the recent economic downturn and in 2009 was forced to pump $8 million (£5 million) of his own money into his businesses in a last-ditch bid to keep afloat.
The company, Gordon Ramsay Holdings, reported a loss of $6.5 million (£4.3 million) last year (09) and was dealt another blow in August (10) when U.S. officials sent three outstanding tax bills, with one totalling $484,500 (£323,000).
And the strain has seemingly affected Chris Hutcheson, the father of his wife Tana, who has walked away from his job in charge of his son-in-law’s dealings after 12 years.
A statement says, "We can confirm that Chris Hutcheson has left his position as CEO of Gordon Ramsay Holdings Ltd. He retains an interest in the business as a shareholder."

New SPIDER-MAN star ANDREW GARFIELD swore off a career in music after enduring two years of the "most depressing" classical guitar lessons.
The actor, 27, harboured dreams of becoming a singer/songwriter but his early musical experiences turned his dream into a nightmare and he hasn’t picked up a guitar since.
He tells Interview magazine, "When I was six I thought that I wanted to be a musician… That’s what I romantically envisioned for myself. But, in reality, the experience of getting into music was just the opposite.
"My parents signed me up for classical guitar lessons, which made for two years of the most depressing Wednesday evenings. My teacher was this classically-trained Spanish-guitar guy, who kind of left me cold. Instead of learning how to play the kinds of songs I wanted to play, I was learning these classical pieces.
"Even my teacher’s attempts to teach me some Beatles songs didn’t quite connect. So I probably rebelled against that by never touching a guitar again."

U.S. late night talk show host JIMMY KIMMEL’s Hollywood Boulevard set has become the location of a potential crime scene after the body of a man was found inside a truck at the rear of the studio.
Police detectives were called to the scene on Tuesday afternoon (19Oct10) after a bystander noticed the lifeless body slumped in the vehicle and called the authorities.
The cops are trying to determine if the man was a victim of foul play, according to the Los Angeles Times.

JOHNNY KNOXVILLE is hoping for a speedy sequel to his latest movie JACKASS 3D, because the team of stuntmen turned "two movies’ worth of footage" over to studio bosses.
The movie, which is full of crazy pranks and stars Knoxville, Bam Margera and Steve-O, pulled in a staggering $50 million (£33.3 million) over its opening weekend (16-17Oct10).
And Knoxville is convinced the film’s distributors Paramount would be able to turn around another movie in a small space of time - because of the sheer amount of footage they recorded on their 3D adventure.
He says, "We shot two movies’ worth of footage. We have so many bits that we never even turned in to Paramount because we were so swamped with ideas - funny stuff. The bits were just coming out of us left and right."

JOHN MAYER, ROB THOMAS and BEN HARPER have teamed up with Aussie rockers INXS for a tribute album to the band’s late frontman MICHAEL HUTCHENCE.
Original Sin, which will hit stores and the internet in January (11), features the tragic star’s hits performed by a group of famous fans and his bandmates.
Stand-out tracks include Harper’s take on Never Tear Us Apart and a new version of Beautiful Girl by Train star Pat Monaghan, who jumped at the chance to perform with one of his favourite groups.
He tells USA Today, "When they asked what song I wanted, I pulled out a list of about 30.
"Some may have forgotten how great a band INXS is, but maybe this will remind them, and introduce younger fans."
