Singer-songwriter AMANDA GHOST has quit as the head of record label Epic after less than two years on the job.
Ghost was a surprise choice to take over the Sony subsidiary in February 2009 and 20 months on she has decided to step down to dedicate more time to her own music.
Announcing her departure, Sony boss Rob Stringer says, "Amanda has been an important creative force at Epic in the past two years. In returning to the natural focus of her artistic career, I look forward to us working together in the future".
And Ghost insists she wont be severing all ties with Epic, adding, "It is has been a real honour and privilege to have worked with Rob Stringer and the whole Epic staff and I look forward to working closely with them on future projects".

Scottish singing sensation SUSAN BOYLE is the latest star to get the GLEE treatment after landing a role in a special holiday episode of the hit TV musical, according to U.S. reports.
Boyle, who shot to fame on Simon Cowell’s U.K. TV show Britain’s Got Talent, will have a part in a special festive episode of the series, about a high school glee club - reports ShowbizSpy.com.
Several holiday tunes from the episode are expected to be released for download ahead of Boyle’s debut later this year (10).
The singer follows in the footsteps of fellow Glee celebrity guests Britney Spears, Javier Bardem and Gwyneth Paltrow.

A commemorative British coin honouring late BEATLE JOHN LENNON has gone on sale in the U.K., weeks after what would have been the legend’s 70th birthday.
On Friday (29Oct10), the Imagine hitmaker was announced winner of an online vote to determine which British luminary would be honoured with a commemorative coin struck by the Royal Mint.
He beat out late author Jane Austen and late Scottish engineer John Logie Baird.
Lennon’s coin, which depicts him with long hair and sideburns and his trademark round glasses, will have a face value of GBP5 ($8) but will be sold for GBP44.99 pounds ($71.63). Only 5,000 will be sold.
The Royal Mint also plans to produce one single coin in 24 karat gold that will be given to the star’s estate.
A Royal Mint spokesperson says: "It’s entirely fitting that John Lennon has been chosen by the public in what would have been his 70th year. The massive proportion of the vote he received shows clearly just how much his untimely death still resonates with the nation. He ranks alongside, and even ahead of, some of the greatest names in history." Lennon, who was murdered outside of his New York apartment in 1980, would have celebrated his 70th birthday on 9 October (10).

The 20 year old singer, currently rumoured to be dating actor Jake Gyllenhaal, fears she’d struggle to juggle gigs and a busy touring schedule - so she’s content to wait until she’s older.
The Love Story singer says, "Oh, well, kids, yes! Later in life, definitely. I’d love to get to a place where I could do what my mom did.
"But let’s say I’m 30 and still touring: I wouldn’t want to have a family, because I couldn’t balance it. But I really have no idea about the future. It’s so unexpected. Trust me!"

Tennessee hospital bosses have honoured generous country music stars RASCAL FLATTS by naming its pediatric surgery centre after the band.
The country music trio has performed for children at The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University several times, and donated more than $3 million (GBP2 million) to the facility over the past five years.
On Friday (29Oct10), bandmates Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney were honoured with the announcement of The Rascal Flatts Surgery Center - where they performed again and handed out Halloween treats to young patients.
The facility will include new specialised radiology suites to improve treatment for approximately 12,700 children each year.

The heads of the notorious HELLS ANGELS MOTORCYCLE CLUB are suing bosses at late fashion designer ALEXANDER MCQUEEN’s label, accusing them of copying their famous logos on a string of clothes and accessories.
Leading Hells Angels are furious their trademarked Winged Death features on new McQueen rings, bags, a scarf and a dress.
The biker gang’s lawyer Fritz Clapp says, "I went on Alexander McQueen’s site and I find not only is the word ‘Hells’ used on those things, but ‘Hells Angels’, the whole phrase, on a pashmina scarf and a Jacquard dress."

Actor EDDIE CIBRIAN’s ex-wife BRANDI GLANVILLE has been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) in California.
Glanville, whose divorce from the actor was finalised on 30 September (10), was pulled over for an unknown traffic violation while driving in Beverly Hills late Thursday night (28Oct10), reports TMZ.com.
A police source tells the website officers smelled an alcohol odor on Glanville, who was arrested at 12:05am on Friday (29Oct10), after failing a field sobriety test.
She was released on $5,000 (GBP3,330) bail at 8:21am.
Cibrian and Glanville share custody of their sons Mason, seven, and Jake, three.
The former CSI: Miami star left Glanville last year (09) after coming clean about his affair with singer/actress LeAnn Rimes.

Troubled actor RANDY QUAID has offered up a new conspiracy theory surrounding the deaths of his famous friends - he believes they were "star whacked".
Holding back tears during an impromptu press conference following an immigration hearing in Vancouver, Canada on Thursday (28Oct10), the Brokeback Mountain star stated he believed Heath Ledger, Chris Penn and David Carradine were all murdered for being famous.
On Wednesday (27Oct10), the actor and his wife were released from custody in Vancouver, where they were being held on a California warrant issued after they failed to show up for an arraignment into a felony vandalism case earlier this month (Oct10).
And Quaid wasted no time in suggesting he had become a victim of the same type of people who killed his famous friends.
He told reporters, "We believe there are to be (sic) a malignant tumour of star whackers in Hollywood. How many people do you know personally who have died suddenly and mysteriously in the past five years? "I have personally known eight actors, all of whom I have worked with and was close to - Heath Ledger, Chris Penn and David Carradine among them. I believe these actors were whacked and I believe that many others, such as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Mel Gibson are being played to get at their money." The Quaids have been dogged with legal problems in the past year. The couple’s woes began when they left a luxurious Santa Barbara, California resort without settling their bill. Their latest issue stems from allegations they were trespassing on an estate they once owned. The Quaids insist they still own the property.

JOHN MAYER is urging his fans to donate money to provide anti-malaria nets for families in third world countries - so poverty-hit kids can live to the same age as teen sensation JUSTIN BIEBER.
The rocker has filmed a new public service announcement (PSA) for the MalariaNoMore charity, which aims to stamp out the killer disease by providing protective sheets to ward off mosquitoes.
And in a bid to take the campaign to a younger audience, Mayer is urging viewers to help affected youngsters live to the same age as 16 year old Bieber - insisting if the scheme works, future age targets will include those of the Jonas Brothers and Twilight star Robert Pattinson.
In the film, Mayer says, "Almost a million people a year die of malaria, and out of that number 85 per cent die under the age of Justin Bieber. With your help, by buying a mosquito net for just $10 we can help - by the end of the year - to get to Bieber. Next year, we’ll go Jonas Brothers. After that, Twilight kids. But baby steps."

JACK NICHOLSON, DANNY DEVITO, LEA MICHELE, and NICOLE SCHERZINGER were among the stars who did the TIME WARP in Los Angeles on Thursday night (28Oct10) in a one-off production of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW.
The star-studded cast took to the stage at the city’s Wiltern Theatre to stage a production of the classic musical in aid of Paul Newman’s Painted Turtle charity.
Nip/Tuck’s Julian McMahon thrilled fans by donning a corset and suspenders to play Dr. Frank-N-Furter, while Glee stars Michele and Morrison took on the roles of stranded lovers Janet Weiss and Brad Majors.
The show also saw star turns from Jack Nicholson, Nicole Scherzinger, Billy Idol, Danny Devito, Ricky Lake, Rachel Evan Wood, Jason Segel and Lost’s Jorge Garcia.
Speaking before the event, producer Lou Adler, who worked on the original film, admitted McMahon wasn’t his first choice to play Frank-N-Furter - he wanted Cher to tackle the role.
He says, "I’ve always envisioned Cher as Frank-N-Furter. But she’s working in Las Vegas."

New mum CELINE DION has revealed she was initially expecting triplets, but lost one of the babies at the beginning of her pregnancy.
The singer and her husband Rene Angelil welcomed twin boys, Nelson and Eddy, at a hospital in Florida on Saturday (23Oct10) after months of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatments.
In an emotional interview with French-Canadian TV channel Canoe, recorded before the birth, the 42-year-old star tearfully recalls how she was initially pregnant with three babies.
But just five days after doctors told her the happy news, the third baby’s heart stopped beating.
She says, "He chose to let go to give space to his brothers to grow."

SIR ELTON JOHN infused his London show on Thursday night (28Oct10) with hip-hop by teaming up with rapper/singer PLAN B on stage.
The Rocket Man performed at the Roundhouse as part of Britain’s Electric Proms concerts and he thrilled the crowd by introducing Plan B as a special guest.
Sir Elton called the rapper’s recent album, The Defamation Of Strickland Banks, his favourite release of the year before launching into a duet with the star. The pair teamed up for a rendition of Sir Elton’s 1983 hit I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.
Plan B was not the only guest of the night - the singer also shared the stage with his former mentor Leon Russell to perform their new collaborative album The Union in its entirety.

Pregnant pop star LILY ALLEN has pulled out of plans to perform at SIR ELTON JOHN’s charity ball on Saturday night (30Oct10) due to illness.
The Smile singer was due to take to the stage at the Grey Goose Character & Cocktails Elton John Aids Foundation winter ball in London to perform for guests.
Allen has now axed her appearance after falling sick with a "viral infection", and Sir Elton has stepped up to take her place in the show.
A spokesman for Allen says, "Lily Allen is a keen supporter of the charity and Grey Goose and is sorry that she is no longer able to perform live on the night. Lily Allen regrets that she has had to pull out of her scheduled appearance due to a viral infection.
"As Lily is pregnant and not able to take medication, she has been advised to rest until the infection clears. She apologises to Elton and to anyone attending the event." The ball will take place at the U.S. embassy in the British capital.

British rock stars including NEW ORDER’s BERNARD SUMNER and SUEDE frontman BRETT ANDERSON have joined SIR ELTON JOHN in taking aim at SIMON COWELL’s hit TV talent show THE X FACTOR.
Sir Elton provoked a terse reaction from Cowell earlier this month (Oct10) when he branded the music mogul’s singing contests "a**e-paralysingly brain crippling".
Now Sumner, Anderson, and Madness singer Suggs have joined the Rocket Man in voicing their displeasure at shows such as The X Factor and American Idol.
Blue Monday hitmaker Sumner says, "I think people are interested in image and the kind of bulls**t you get on TV in shows like The X Factor. I think it stinks because it’s more about the people who are making the programme than the people they are purporting to promote.
"I like real music. I’m not interested in how well you can sing. It’s not how you sing, it’s what you sing that interests me. What they’re singing is other people’s music and it’s not creative. I think Simon Cowell is supplying a market and that market is completely uninteresting and boring." Anderson insists the show is "strangling" the music industry, adding: "I think on the plus side when you have a kind of awful mainstream thing like The X Factor and all that talent show rubbish, it means that there is always a kind of reaction to that." And Madness star Suggs says, "I don’t think there is a lot of room for young bands in the charts and they have been filled up with people who don’t really have any real interest in music."

GLEE star MATTHEW MORRISON has laughed off speculation he’s dating CAMERON DIAZ, insisting he is "just friends" with the Hollywood actress.

SHIRLEY MANSON has confirmed she has reunited GARBAGE to work on the band’s first new album in five years.
The rocker swapped music for acting in 2008 after landing a role in U.S. TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
She recently hinted at a return to her roots by admitting she missed singing, and now she has thrilled fans by revealing a Garbage record is in the works.
Manson tells the Herald Scotland, "I’m working on a record right now with the band. We’ve recorded quite a lot but it’s difficult to quantify. It’s the first one in a long time. I took about five years off. I’d like to do some touring next year." The group’s last studio album, Bleed Like Me, was released in 2005, while a greatest hits compilation, Absolute Garbage, came out in 2007.
