JACKSON SLAMS TV SINGING CONTESTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:12 pm

LA ROUX star ELLY JACKSON has become the latest star to slam TV singing contests - insisting she "will not support" them because they are "unfair" on "vulnerable" wannabes.
Sir Elton John recently branded Simon Cowell’s talent programmes "boring" and "brain crippling", while former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm criticised shows such as American Idol and The X Factor for overexposing the contestants.
Now Jackson has spoken out against reality competitions, insisting the experience of overnight fame is too much for newcomers like Susan Boyle, who famously broke down following her rise to fame on Britain’s Got Talent last year (09).
She tells Britain’s OK! magazine, "I can’t stand it (The X Factor). I don’t think it’s fair on people, it puts them in a very vulnerable position in front of millions of people.
"For example, the Susan Boyle situation was unfair. She came from the middle of nowhere, she’d never seen that many people before. It’s like going from nothing to flashing lights. It’s not okay to throw someone into that situation without any kind of experience or training.
"We all know it’s a massive moneymaking machine, it’s not about finding musical talent. I will not support it."

DIOGUARDI TO JUDGE SONGWRITING CONTEST

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:11 pm

Former AMERICAN IDOL star KARA DIOGUARDI has found herself a new TV talent show to judge - she has signed up to lead a songwriting competition.
The singer exited the popular TV talent show over the summer (10) along with Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres, and the trio was replaced by Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.
DioGuardi has now found a new job - judging wannabe songwriters on a series called Going Platinum for America’s Bravo network.
She tells People.com, "Hit songs are the backbone of the music industry, and as a publisher, nothing excites me more than finding new songwriting talent. I am happy to be a part of a show that helps up and coming songwriters pursue their dreams, while giving the public a look into the creative process." The show will be hosted by singer Jewel, who will also help judge the competition, and the winner will receive a $100,000 (£66,667) prize, as well as music publishing and recording deals.
Going Platinum will premiere in America in 2011.

ANDERSON RULES OUT BUTLER RETURN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:10 pm

SUEDE singer BRETT ANDERSON has ruled out reuniting onstage with fellow founding member BERNARD BUTLER - because it would be "odd" after so many years apart.
The Animal Nitrate hitmakers shot to fame in their native U.K. in the early 1990s but guitarist Butler stunned fans when he walked away from the group to pursue a career as a producer during the recording of their second album, Dog Man Star.
Anderson replaced Butler with Richard Oakes and the new line-up grew in popularity until they finally split in 2003. The Oakes-era band reunited earlier this year (10) - but Anderson is adamant he has no plans to invite original guitarist Butler to join them at their upcoming concert at London’s O2 Arena.
The singer tells Uncut magazine, "Did I ask him to join the Suede show at the O2? No. I told him about it, but he’s moved on so far from Suede that it would have been odd, and we’ve had a completely different line-up since he left. I don’t think he’d want to be jumping around a stage again!"

He admits he’s hankering for a new look and has already toyed with different styles - but he’s now decided to simply shave his head by the time he records his next album.
Bieber says, "I’ve cut this style different ways, but I was thinking about shaving it off or changing it… But I know now isn’t the right time. Maybe by my next album."

DAVIES SUSPECTS SHOOTING WAS ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:09 pm

THE KINKS legend RAY DAVIES is convinced his shooting in 2004 was an attempted assassination by a hitman - because he received a death threat days before the incident.
The Waterloo Sunset singer was shot in the leg in January 2004 as he chased after a thief who had snatched a purse in a street in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Officials treated the incident as a robbery gone wrong - but Davies has now revealed he’s certain he was deliberately targeted as he received a death threat two days before the shooting.
He is also suspicious that the gunman was dressed inappropriately for the neighbourhood where the shooting happened - and has hinted he will reveal the full truth behind the incident in his upcoming book about his time in Louisiana.
Davies tells Uncut magazine, "It’s not tough (to chase after a gunman), it’s foolish. Foolish. Foolish. What I’m trying to get to is the reason why it happened. The real reason. There was a lot going on at that time… Particularly as two days before it happened, somebody threatened to have me killed." Asked if he believes it was a contract killing, Davies adds, "No. They don’t do it that way. It’s just, ‘Will you shoot this guy for me if I give you some drugs?’ "That guy should not have been walking down that street. I’ve walked down that street a thousand times and you don’t see people dressed that way. He was dressed like 50 Cent. It was the wrong neighbourhood for him to be walking in… Read the book when it comes out."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:09 pm

The Gym Class Heroes star subsequently admitted he was heartbroken by the split and even wrote a song, Don’t Pretend, for his ex-girlfriend.
Perry married Brand in India on Saturday (23Oct10), but McCoy is adamant he’s not bitter about the pop star’s new relationship.
He tells Britain’s Metro, "We haven’t really kept in contact that much (since the split) but we’ve crossed paths and I wish her the best (with her marriage)."

DAVIES DENIES QUAIFE MEMORIAL SNUB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:09 pm

THE KINKS star DAVE DAVIES has denied snubbing a planned memorial for his former bandmate PETE QUAIFE - insisting he doesn’t want to "make a spectacle" of the tragedy.
Quaife died in June (10) from kidney failure, and the band’s frontman Ray Davies has accused his estranged brother Dave of refusing to reform the band for a tribute concert.
But Davies has now hit back, insisting he has already attended a private memorial for Quaife and fears a concert will turn his death into "a PR exercise".
Dave Davies tells Uncut magazine, "I run spiritual healing groups, and when Pete passed away I spoke to his brother and girlfriend and we had a memorial service. It was very private, very peaceful. I don’t want to make a spectacle of Pete’s death. It’s not a PR exercise. I have concerns about what Ray is planning."

GOSLING FRUSTRATED BY REYNOLDS CONFUSION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:08 pm

RYAN GOSLING often leaves autograph hunters "disappointed" because so many fans confuse him with RYAN REYNOLDS.
The Notebook star admits he is often mistaken for the fellow Canadian actor, and he fears many devotees feel let down when they realise he is not Reynolds.
He tells Interview magazine, "I get that a lot. I do think it’s because we’re both Canadian. I can’t tell you how many times people go, ‘Are you Ryan?’ And I go, ‘Yeah.’ And they say, ‘Can I get a picture?’ Then they take the picture and realise, in that moment, that I’m not Ryan Reynolds. I can see the disappointment in their faces."

MULLIGAN BRUSHES OFF SEEDY HOTEL STORY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:08 pm

CAREY MULLIGAN has laughed off reports she has been staying in a downmarket hotel in Los Angeles following her rumoured split from boyfriend SHIA LABEOUF - insisting she actually quite likes her new home.
The An Education star recently admitted she has cooled her relationship with her Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps co-star and she was later reported to have moved out of the home they shared and into a budget motel.
Mulligan has taken up residence at a $102 (£69)-a-night Best Western motel in West Hollywood while she films her new movie Drive, but the actress can’t understand the fuss about her new accommodation.
She tells People.com, "I don’t know why people are so down on the Best Western. They have the best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had."

RODMAN OPENS UP ABOUT FIGHT FOR SOBRIETY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:07 pm

Former basketball star DENNIS RODMAN has spoken out about his ongoing battle with alcoholism, admitting he’s struggling to stay sober after a lifetime of hard partying.
The sportsman-turned-reality-TV-star battled his addiction in front of millions this year (10) as part of U.S. TV shows Celebrity Rehab and Sober House - but numerous reports have suggested he’s continued to drink.
Rodman’s representative spoke out in defence of the recovering alcoholic back in May (10), insisting the star’s struggle to stay sober has been "a gradual process" as rumours swirled he’d relapsed.
Now the athlete is speaking out about his daily battle to quit drinking, and reveals he’s not ready to give up the bottle just yet.
He says, "It’s definitely difficult to party after such a long time and really give it (drinking) up like that (snaps fingers)…
"You just can’t go into a program and get sober after 30 days."

RONSON GUARDING HIS Q AWARD AFTER LOSING WINEHOUSE’S TROPHY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:15 pm

Superproducer MARK RONSON has vowed to take good care of his Q Award after losing AMY WINEHOUSE’s trophy three years ago.
The DJ accepted a prize on Winehouse’s behalf when she was unable to attend the 2007 ceremony, but Ronson was left shamefaced when he lost the award, which was later found in the toilets of a London nightclub following the event.
The Grammy-winner picked up his own Q Award on Monday (25Oct10), winning the title for best Innovation in Sound, and he has promised not to let the statuette out of his sight.
He tells Britain’s The Sun, "I picked it up for her and then left it somewhere and it ended up in these nightclub toilets. That won’t be happening now it’s mine. I’m keeping hold of this one for sure."

WEST EYES HIP-HOP TOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:13 pm

KANYE WEST is making plans for a star-studded hip-hop tour with JAY-Z and LIL WAYNE, following his doomed joint trek with pop star LADY GAGA.
The rapper planned to share the stage with the Poker Face hitmaker for their Fame Kills tour last year (09) but they called off the shows, citing "creative differences".
West is preparing to hit the road again - but this time he’s adamant he’ll only recruit hip-hop stars to join the bill.
He tells MTV.com, "One thing though that I’m gonna do, especially with my tour this time, is I’m gonna keep it very, very, very hip-hop.
"Tour is like church almost. It doesn’t really work if you got a Muslim-Christian church… What I figured out is I’m gonna keep the church really hip-hop." And he admits his dream line-up would include rappers Jay-Z and Lil Wayne.
He adds: "I would definitely like to bring Nicki Minaj on tour, Rick Ross, Kid Cudi… I’d like to do different tours… I’d like to do a tour with me and Jay (Jay-Z). I think that’s an obvious winner right there. A tour with me and Wayne, maybe me, Wayne, Jay and Drake."

PENN DETERMINED TO CARRY ON HELPING HAITI

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:13 pm

SEAN PENN has rebuffed reports he is planning to pull his aid organisation out of Haiti, insisting his charity will continue work there for "decades" if necessary.
The Oscar-winning actor has been working closely with his JP Haitian Relief Organization, striving to help the devastated region in the wake of the January (10) earthquake which left thousands of citizens homeless.
Many aid organisations, including OxFam and Doctors Without Borders, plan to leave the area in the coming months, but Penn is adamant his charity workers will stay - and in the light of the recent cholera outbreak, Penn insists it is more crucial than ever to help the people of Haiti.
He tells Fox News, "I don’t think there has even been a published or discussed exit strategy. If there is one, it would only live in my head. In one mutation or another, this is going to be a several-decades-long organisation, and it may develop into something entirely different over time… Rubble removal is the key thing. But obviously if something like what just happened with the cholera outbreak keeps happening, and this becomes a widespread outbreak, then we need to focus on that…"

FISHER HID HER PREGNANCY DURING BURKE AND HARE SHOOT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:13 pm

Actress ISLA FISHER fooled all her co-stars on the set of new movie BURKE AND HARE as she successfully hid her pregnancy from them throughout the entire shoot.
The Confessions of a Shopaholic star was earlier this year (10) rumoured to have fallen pregnant with her second child by her husband Sacha Baron Cohen. The secretive couple refused to confirm the news and reports about the birth only surfaced when they were spotted pushing a baby buggy around London in September (10).
Fisher has finally spoken out about her pregnancy, admitting she kept the news quiet during the filming of new movie Burke and Hare with Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis, who play the infamous British grave robbers.
The actress didn’t tell her co-stars or director John Landis, and spent weeks hiding her morning sickness and her expanding belly.
She wasn’t able to wear a tight corset for the period costume in her condition, but none of her colleagues noticed when she swapped it for a "push-up bra" instead.
She says, "That was difficult because I was pregnant during the making of the movie, so I didn’t really squeeze into it (the corset). I used to pretend I was wearing a corset and then not wear it, just wear a push up bra - don’t tell the director that." Pegg confirms he had no idea his co-star was pregnant until he saw her sporting a full baby bump months after the shoot wrapped.
He adds, "I didn’t know what was going on. She didn’t look pregnant until the last minute. I saw her a couple of months later and she was like a balloon. None of us knew, not even John knew. She hid it well." Fisher has a daughter, Olive, with Cohen, but they have yet to reveal the gender and the name of their new baby.

DAMON WASN’T TOLD ABOUT BOURNE AXE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:12 pm

MATT DAMON was shocked when movie bosses announced plans to film THE BOURNE LEGACY without him - because he only heard about the news after reading it on the internet.
The Hollywood star has played secret agent Jason Bourne in three films, but sparked rumours of a departure from the franchise when director Paul Greengrass quit and the actor insisted he would not return to the role unless his pal was in charge.
Michael Clayton moviemaker Tony Gilroy, who wrote the screenplay for the first three Bourne installments, has since been hired to take over from Greengrass and confirmed earlier this year (10) that Damon will not be a part of the new movie.
But Damon was by stunned at the news - because no one "bothered" to inform him of the plans.
He tells Parade magazine, "I found out they’re making another when somebody saw it on the internet. Nobody bothered to call me. I’m not in it, but even so, they’ll work Bourne into the title, I guess. Universal just wants to call everything the Bourne something. So I guess they are trying to make another franchise and as they say, ‘It isn’t over until it’s over’." The Bourne Legacy is due for release in 2012.

THE VERONICAS JOIN ANTI-FUR CAMPAIGN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:12 pm

Australian pop stars THE VERONICAS have joined a gory new anti-fur campaign - the twins appear holding skinned rabbits for a new animal rights advert.
Jessica and Lisa Origliasso have joined the likes of Pamela Anderson, Eva Mendes and Kate Winslet by starring in a promo for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
In the firm’s latest advertising campaign, the Aussie stars are snapped holding what appears to be bloody, skinned rabbits alongside the caption: "Here’s the Rest of Your Fur Coat".
The singers have previously criticised fashion designers for using fur in clothing lines and hope the new commercial will help stamp out the trend.
Jessica tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, "Designers that still use fur, to us it is just ignorant, it is unnecessary and it is unacceptable. We don’t want to be an ignorant generation, we want to inform people. We can be the generation that makes the difference."

TAKE THAT TO TOUR WITH THEIR KIDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:12 pm

British boyband TAKE THAT are heading out on a massive comeback tour - and they’re planning a backstage creche so their kids can join them on the road.
The Back for Good hitmakers announced on Tuesday (26Oct10) they are to play a series of gigs in the U.K. and Europe with a full line-up for the first time in 15 years.
The band was reduced to a four-piece in 1995 when Robbie Williams quit for a solo career, but they announced in July (10) that he was to rejoin Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange for a full reunion.
Now they have confirmed a comeback tour next year (11) - but the singers will shun wild parties in favour of quality time with their family.
Owen, who has two children with wife Emma Ferguson, says, "It’s up to them if they come along. We are talking about having a creche backstage this time. But they have got school, the kids. It’s difficult to come out of school, but we will work something out." And Barlow promised fans the shows in Britain, Italy, Denmark, Holland, and Germany will be their most spectacular ever.
He adds, "It’s a big production show. It’s not going to be a stripped-down acoustic set. It’s going to be a big stadium show. We want it to be spectacular again."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:10 pm

JOHNNY CASH’s costumes, guitars and handwritten lyrics are set to go under the hammer at a massive memorabilia auction in December (10).
The Man In Black’s possessions are set to be auctioned off in Los Angeles in a lengthy three-day sale, which will include a staggering 1,000 lots.
