Troubled actor RANDY QUAID and his wife EVI have been released from jail following their arrest for allegedly squatting in the house they called h ome.
The couple was arrested on Saturday (18Sep10) when officials at the San ta Barbara County sheriff’s department received a complaint from the owne r of the property. When cops turned up to investigate, the Quaids insiste d they were the rightful owners and had been since the 1990s.
The complainant produced documentation proving he had bought the home f rom another buyer in 2007, who had purchased the house from the Quaids ye ars earlier.
The couple was taken into custody and spent the night in jail, before b eing released on Sunday morning (19Sep10) after posting $50,000 (=C2=A333 ,330) bail.
They are facing charges of felony residential burglary and a misdemeano ur of entering a non-commercial building without consent. Evi Quaid was a lso charged with resisting arrest.
It’s the Quaids’ latest controversy - Evi Quaid received three years’ p robation after pleading no contest to a misdemeanour count of defrauding an innkeeper after the couple failed to settle a $10,000 (=C2=A36,670) bi ll following a stay at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.

LINDSAY LOHAN will become a wanted woman if she fails to show for a court hearing on Friday morning (24Sep10) - a Los Angeles judge has issued a b ench warrant for her arrest.
The Mean Girls star is facing 30 days behind bars after admitting to fa iling two mandatory drug tests last week (ends17Sep10), with one reported ly testing positive for cocaine and the other for amphetamines.
The random tests Lohan is subjected to twice a week are part of her ong oing punishment following a probation violation issue earlier this year ( 10).
Lohan has been ordered to appear in court on Friday, when Judge Elden F ox will address the actress’ latest probation problem - and he’s taken st eps to ensure she obeys his ruling by signing a bench warrant for her arr est.
The warrant has been placed on hold until 8.30am local time on Friday - when it will be activated if Lohan does not appear before Judge Fox.
The probation report detailing her two ‘dirty’ drug tests was filed wit h court representatives on Monday (20Sep10), reports TMZ.com.
Lohan, who is undergoing intense outpatient treatment following her rel ease from court-ordered rehab last month (Aug10), confirmed the failed dr ug tests in a post on her Twitter.com page, in which she vowed to take re sponsibility for her actions.
The 24 year old wrote, "Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked… I am prepared to appear before judge Fox n ext week as a result.
"Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps for ward every day. I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future.
"This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences."

The Day ‘N Nite hitmaker, real name Scott Mescudi, makes the revelation in a candid new Complex magazine interview, in which he also reveals the extent of his reliance on hard drugs to deal with the pressures of fame.
He tells the publication, "I started doing cocaine to get through inter views, ’cause people wanted to know a lot about my personal life and I wa sn’t prepared for a 60 Minutes (intensive U.S. news show) interview every time.
"Doing bumps I was able to get through the day, but then I would smoke weed to calm me down - it was the only way I could get through the day wi thout people noticing I was doing it." The hip-hop star, 26, confesses he came dangerously close to death on m ore than one occasion but kicked his reliance on hardcore drugs after hit ting the headlines in June (10), when he was arrested on charges of felon y criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance following a dispute with his ex-girlfriend.
He continues, "No more blow. People do drugs to camouflage emotions and run away from their problems. Now I’m going to deal with certain things as they come, prioritise s**t - man up, so to speak…
"I never thought it was a problem, but I was definitely high-fiving dea th a couple of times." Cudi’s legal troubles also forced him to face up to the responsibilitie s of fatherhood and he’s credited the birth of little Vada, his child wit h a former lover, as his much-needed "wake-up call".
He says, "I have a daughter, born March 26th of this year. Her name is Vada, and she’s f**king awesome. That was eating me up, and it was stress ing me out that nobody knew about her. I was trying to escape from that, too. Just trying to figure it out and make everyone happy, it’s a lot for somebody my age to handle. I was manning up and dealing with it in what I thought was the right way, but it was the wrong way.
"I want to be around for her. I can honestly say she was the wake-up ca ll. The reality that it’s bigger than just you now - you have a responsib ility and there’s no more time for mistakes. It’s time to stop f**king ar ound." The rapper is now using his personal struggles as inspiration for his u pcoming album, Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager.

JOHN LENNON’s son JULIAN has ended his long-running family feud with half -brother SEAN and his former step-mother YOKO ONO, insisting "things are good" between the trio.
Lennon’s murder in 1980 reportedly sparked a rift between the siblings, with Julian and his mother left to battle Ono through the courts for a s hare of the singer’s estate.
The brothers, both musicians, appeared to grow closer in recent years, and even performed together for a United Nations concert last year (09).

Reggae star BUJU BANTON will finally face up to the drug charges stemming from his arrest last year (09) - jury selection has begun, five months a fter he was initially due to stand trial.
Banton, real name Mark Myrie, was jailed in December 2009 after he was caught allegedly attempting to buy more than five kilograms of cocaine fr om an undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota, Florida.
The case was due to go to trial in April (10) but was postponed until J une (10) before being delayed once more.
Now the troubled Jamaican is preparing to answer charges including cons piracy to possess, intent to distribute and possession of a firearm durin g the course of illegal activity, reports AllHipHop.com.
Jury selection began on Monday (20Sep10) at the Federal Court in Tampa, Florida.
He has pleaded not guilty to all counts and has accused U.S. government officials of entrapment and pressuring him into purchasing the drugs.
Banton has been held without bail in Pinellas County Jail in Tampa sinc e his arrest.
If convicted, he faces up to life behind bars.

The Heroes actress has signed a deal with America’s Lifetime network to star in The Amanda Knox Story, the Hollywood tale of the real-life U.S. exchange student’s sensational Italian murder trial surrounding the bruta l killing of her roommate.
Knox became an object of international fascination at 20, when she and her Italian boyfriend were arrested in the country in November 2007 and a ccused by prosecutors of killing 21-year-old Meredith Kercher during a vi olent night fuelled by sex and drugs.
Knox, her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and Italian native Rudy Guede we re charged with sexually assaulting Kercher, while the American was accus ed of slashing her roommate’s throat with a knife.
Knox’s 11-month trial ended last December (09), and she was sentenced t o 26 years in prison in an Italian jail. She maintains her innocence and has filed an appeal.
Sollecito received 25 years and, in a separate trial, Guede received 30 years.

Funnyman RUSSELL BRAND has broken his silence following his Friday (17Sep 10) arrest for allegedly attacking a paparazzo, laughing off the incident in a series of Twitter.com posts.
The British star was detained on suspicion of battery after a reported encounter with a photographer as he walked through Los Angeles Internatio nal Airport with his fiancee Katy Perry.
The pop star insisted he was simply protecting his wife-to-be from snap pers who were trying to take an inappropriate "upskirt" shot of her.
Brand, who was charged with battery and released on $20,000 (=C2=A313,3 30) bail, kept quiet until Monday morning (20Sep10) when he addressed the matter online - but he didn’t take aim at the pap.
Reaching out to his followers, he wrote: "Thanks for your sweet message s of support. After the tips I picked up in chokey (jail) I’m an infinite ly more proficient criminal." Brand also posted a cheeky snap of one of his tattoos on the micro-blog ging site, joking about finding love with another inmate, who he referred to as "my new homey from the joint".
But the incident isn’t all laughs for the star - American immigration o fficials are investigating the situation and could revoke his visa over t he incident.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services told Brita in’s Daily Mirror on Monday: "We are looking into this…
"A charge of battery could result in a conviction for an aggravated fel ony. Any kind of criminal conviction can lead to a visa being revoked. If a visa is revoked, the person will then be placed in deportation proceed ings and this could lead to them being asked to leave the country and not return." Brand is due back in court next month (Oct10) to face the battery charg e.

Former wrestler-turned-actress CHYNA has been admitted to hospital in Los Angeles after allegedly over-medicating herself with a sleeping aid, acc ording to a U.S. report.
TMZ.com initially claimed the 39 year old, real name Joan Laurer, was s uffering from alcohol poisoning when she was taken to UCLA Medical Center on Monday morning (20Sep10).
However, a source now tells the website the star took as much as five t imes the suggested dosage of Benadryl to help her sleep - but found herse lf throwing up and struggling to walk properly when she woke up.
The insider adds Chyna is being treated with fluids in the emergency ro om and is expected to make a full recovery.
A representative for Chyna had yet to respond to requests for a comment as WENN went to press.
The troubled star has a history of substance abuse and heavy drinking, and attempted to overcome her problems during a 2008 stint on U.S. realit y show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

PARIS HILTON has been handed a one-year suspended sentence and ordered to attend an "intensive" substance abuse programme as part of a plea deal s temming from her drug arrest in Las Vegas last month (Aug10).
The socialite was detained on 27 August (10) when a small bag of white powder fell out of her purse in front of a police officer. She was charge d with felony drug possession after the substance was confirmed as cocain e.
Hilton struck a plea deal with prosecutors last week (ends17Sep10) whic h allowed her to avoid jail and admit to two misdemeanour charges instead of face up to a maximum of four years behind bars for the felony.
She entered guilty pleas to the minor drug possession charge and to obs tructing an officer during a court hearing in Nevada on Monday (20Sep10).
As part of the deal for a suspended sentence, Hilton must remain out of trouble for the next 12 months - or face spending time in jail.
Handing down the sentence, the judge warned the hotel heiress, "The pur pose here is to change your conduct… The Clark County Detention Center is not the Waldorf Astoria but I assure you, if you violate the terms of your probation you will serve one year in the Clark County Detention Cent er. Treat this very seriously." Hilton has also been ordered to complete 200 hours of community service and pay $2,000 (=C2=A31,330) in fines. In addition, she has been placed on probation for one year.

The rock matriarch’s late father, music manager Don Arden, developed th e condition prior to his death in 2007, and former Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy admits watching his father-in-law’s deterioration terrified him.
The singer and TV star Sharon recently underwent genetic tests to disco ver if they are susceptible to the disease - but the results are not yet known.

JAY-Z is teaming up with his pal CHRIS MARTIN and COLDPLAY for a spectacu lar New Year’s Eve show in Las Vegas.
The rapper and the British rockers have signed a multimillion-dollar de al to play at the opening of the new Cosmopolitan resort in Sin City on 3 1 December (10), according to the New York Post.

STEVIE WONDER is leading a campaign to translate billions of books into a readable format for blind people.
The Superstition hitmaker, who has been visually impaired since shortly after his birth, told the United Nations’ World Intellectual Property Or ganisation that more than 300 million blind citizens do not have access t o important science and history texts.
He is calling for a deal to encourage the trade in copyrighted books so they can be transferred into formats that are readable for the blind.
According to AFP, the Motown legend told delegates in Geneva, Switzerla nd, "What I would like to do today is launch what I call the ‘Declaration of freedom for people with disabilities’. It’s a call to action, a plan that will empower the independence of people with disabilities by providi ng them with the tools to learn and grow."

THE ZUTONS rocker DAVE MCCABE has been accused of headbutting a stranger in retaliation after the man allegedly insulted his girlfriend during a n ight out.
The singer has pleaded not guilty to one count of assault occasioning a ctual bodily harm following claims he attacked Peter Appleby in an alterc ation at a nightclub in Liverpool, England in February (10).
McCabe’s trial has begun at Liverpool Crown Court and Appleby took the stand to accuse the star of attacking him after a group of his friends ma de a joke about the star’s girlfriend.
Appleby claims McCabe approached the group in an "aggressive" manner be fore shouting abuse and then attacking him.
He told the court, "He seemed to be directing it at me and then he lung ed towards me and headbutted me. I was stunned when he headbutted me. I l ooked down and all I could see was blood." McCabe, 29, admits striking Mr Appleby but denies the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm - insisting he acted in self-defence.
The case continues.
