LADY GAGA MAKES A STAND AT CAMPAIGN RALLY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:03 am

LADY GAGA urged U.S. officials to throw homophobic soldiers out of the mi litary as she took a stand against the controversial ‘Don’t ask, don’t te ll’ policy at a protest rally on Monday (20Sep10).
The Poker Face hitmaker has been vocal about her opposition to the unsp oken rule, which bans homosexual service personnel from revealing their s exuality, in recent interviews, and even took discharged gay servicemen a nd women as her dates to the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month (S ep10) in a bid to get her message across.
She took further action on Monday when she joined a protest march in Po rtland, Maine, organised by the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, and called on local Republican Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to t o vote to repeal the policy.
And Gaga proposed a new policy at the rally - to kick homophobic soldie rs out of the military.
Taking to the stage to huge cheers, the gay icon said, "I’m here becaus e don’t ask, don’t tell is wrong. It’s unjust. Doesn’t it seem that don’t ask, don’t tell is backwards? Doesn’t it seem to be, based on the consti tution of the United States, (that) we’re penalising the wrong soldier? D oesn’t it seem to you we should send home the prejudice - the straight so ldier who hates the gay soldier. The straight soldier whose performance i n the military is affected because he is homophobic…
"If you are not honourable enough to fight without prejudice, go home.
"I’m here today because I would like to propose a new law. A law which sends home the solider which has the problem. Our new law is called, ‘If you don’t like it, go home.’" The singer revealed she felt compelled to attend after hearing real-lif e experiences from military members.
She added, "There are amazing heroes here today whose stories are more powerful than any story I could tell, any fight I ever fought or any song I could sell. I’m here because they inspire me. I’m here because I belie ve in them." A key vote on the future of the policy is set for Tuesday afternoon (21 Sep10).
