GRIGORIEVA’S LAWYER DENIES SHE MADE MONEY FROM GIBSON TAPES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:28 pm

A lawyer representing MEL GIBSON’s ex-girlfriend OKSANA GRIGORIEVA has ap peared on U.S. TV to publicly deny allegations the singer made money from selling damaging tape recordings of her arguments with the actor.
The couple, parents to baby daughter Lucia, split in April (10) and the break-up turned nasty, with Grigorieva accusing the actor of beating her during a violent altercation in January (10).
Tapes of the Braveheart star purportedly hurling abuse at his lover lat er surfaced on the web and the recordings hit headlines across the world.
Gibson’s lawyers accused Grigorieva of violating a restraining order by releasing the audio tapes even though she denied being behind the leak.
Grigorieva’s attorney Daniel Horowitz appeared on America’s Today show on Wednesday (22Sep10) to vehemently deny claims she profited from the sa le of the tapes - insisting she didn’t release them and whoever did would have made a million-dollar sum from the sale.
He says, "No, absolutely not (she did not sell the tapes). In fact thos e are worth probably a million dollars to whoever leaked them and she is broke." And Horowitz is adamant Grigorieva didn’t ask for money to hold the tap es back either, adding: "She’s a domestic violence victim. She was beaten .. She was terrorised and yet all the media seems to focus on is whether s he extorted Mel Gibson and in fact it’s just the opposite.
"This is not about money. This is what happens to domestic violence vic tims. They’re vilified… She is simply a violence victim and anybody who is beaten or threatened has a right to document it and show the world th at this is what happened otherwise (it) is going to be Mel Gibson, one of the most popular and loved superstars in the world against a lone woman - who is going to believe her? DISTURBIA COPYRIGHT LAWSUIT DISMISSED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:27 pm

A judge in the U.S. has dismissed a copyright infringement lawsuit which claimed SHIA LABEOUF’s 2007 movie DISTURBIA was based on the famous story of REAR WINDOW.
Lawyers representing the trust of late writer Cornell Woolrich filed le gal papers claiming DreamWorks movie bosses stole part of the film’s plot from her short story, which was turned into an Oscar-nominated film by A lfred Hitchcock in 1954.
Both stories follow a man who spies on a neighbour from his window and becomes convinced they have committed murder.
Legal reps alleged studio heads didn’t ask permission to turn the short story into a film.
But New York District Court judge Laura Taylor Swan has dismissed the c omplaint, insisting the similarities aren’t enough to warrant copyright i nfringement.
She says, "The main plots are similar only at a high, unprotectable lev el of generality. Where Disturbia is rife with sub-plots, the short story has none. The setting and mood of the short story are static and tense, whereas the setting and mood of Disturbia are more dynamic and peppered w ith humour and teen romance."

Now the beauty has opened up about the testing experience, accusing pro secutors of using her celebrity status to highlight the case.
She tells Sky News, "What you need to understand - I wasn’t on trial - I was forced through a subpoena to testify. Nothing to do with me. This t rial has been going on for how many years? No one cared to write about it .. You bring Naomi Campbell to the stand, the whole world knows. So as far as I was concerned I was used as a scapegoat.
"I do not think what he (Taylor) did to his people is correct. I do not condone that and I will never condone that, but I do not see why I have to sit here and hear around everywhere I go in the world that this was li ke my trial. I was a witness. I told and remembered what I could to my ab ility and it was 13 years ago." Taylor is accused of using blood diamonds to fund Sierra Leone’s 1991-2 002 civil war. He has pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of war crimes and c rimes against humanity stemming from the brutal conflict. (KD/WNVSK/LR&ZN
