ELFMAN TO TAKE CIRQUE DU SOLEIL TO NEW HEIGHTS IN HOLLYWOOD

TIM BURTON’s longtime score collaborator DANNY ELFMAN has been commission ed to create the score for Cirque du Soleil’s new Los Angeles show, IRIS.
The high-flying circus spectacular will begin a residency at the home o f the Oscars, the Kodak Theatre, next summer (11).
The production has been designed to pay tribute to Hollywood.
Elfman is best known for his scores to Burton’s movies as the opening t heme for The Simpsons.

RONSON TURNS SHOP ASSISTANT FOR RECORD LAUNCH

Superproducer MARK RONSON is stepping behind the counter of a legendary L ondon music store to serve customers as he releases his new album next we ek (begs27Sep10).
Record Collection, the star’s third disc, hits shelves on Monday (27Sep 10) and Ronson is determined to meet the fans who buy the album.
He’ll become an assistant at independent music store Rough Trade in the U.K. capital - and he can’t wait.

CANCER-STRICKEN NOLAN ‘SUFFERING NASTY SIDE EFFECTS’ FROM CHEMO

COLEEN NOLAN is proud of her sister BERNIE’s positive attitude during her cancer treatment - because she’s been suffering "a lot of nasty side eff ects" from chemotherapy.
The 49-year-old I’m in the Mood for Dancing singer was diagnosed with b reast cancer in April (10) and has been undergoing treatment sessions in a bid to beat the disease.
Her sister Coleen reveals Bernie will undergo surgery next month (Oct10 ) and she’s full of praise for her sibling’s fighting spirit.
Coleen says, "This girl never ceases to amaze… It really proves that your mental attitude to things is so important, the mind is so strong. Sh e’s had a hard time, a lot of nasty side effects with the chemo, but she comes through them and goes, ‘I don’t care about the side effects because it means they’re working and I’m getting better.’ "She’s got one more chemo session and then she has her operation in Oct ober and she said ‘I’m done now’. They’ve caught it, it’s gone. I’m so pr oud of her."

MARR & BROWN RECORD COVERS FOR CHARITY ALBUM

Former THE SMITHS guitarist JOHNNY MARR and IAN BROWN are among the stars who have recorded tracks for an album to benefit a homeless charity in B ritain.
Bands The Feeling and Hard-Fi have also headed into the studio in aid o f the Centrepoint organisation, with all the musicians recording songs fr om 1969, the year the charity was founded.
Chief resources officer Stuart Rogers says, "One or two of the artists have worked with us before and played at events but most of them are peop le we approached about recording a track. All the profits will go towards giving homeless young people a better future." The album will be released in the U.K. on 4 October (10). (CL/WNWCMIR/K

LEGEND AND THE ROOTS TURN MARCHING BAND AHEAD OF NEW YORK GIG

JOHN LEGEND and THE ROOTS turned heads on the streets of New York on Thur sday night (23Sep10) when they marched through the city playing instrumen ts on their way to their concert at Terminal 5.
The two critically-acclaimed acts, who have joined forces for their new collaborative covers album Wake Up!, caused a stir as they made their wa y west on Manhattan’s 56th Street and walked through the main doors of th e venue, causing fans to scream in excitement.
But their big entrance wasn’t the only surprise of the night - Legend a nd The Roots were joined on stage by a string of stars, including rapper Common and R&B star Jennifer Hudson.
Taking his place behind a grand piano, Legend introduced Common and sou l singer Melanie Fiona to the spotlight to perform the disc’s title track , while hip-hop veteran CL Smooth took over the mic for his verse on Our Generation - Legend and The Roots’ take on the Ernie Hines hit.
American Boy hitmaker Estelle appeared alongside MC Black Thought for a rendition of The Roots classic You Got Me, with the Brit filling in for original vocalist Erykah Badu.
But the biggest surprise of the night came right at the end of the show , when Legend and The Roots returned for an encore, accompanied by Oscar- winner Hudson. The singer/actress performed Kurt Carr’s gospel hit Be Gra teful, showing off her new svelte look in a figure-hugging all-black ense mble to duet with Legend.
The band also played their covers of Compared to What, I Can’t Write Le ft Handed and the album’s only original song Shine, from the soundtrack t o new documentary Waiting for Superman, while Legend sang a handful of hi s solo tracks, including Green Light and a rousing rendition of Ordinary People.

SINGER PARTRIDGE DIES

British singer DON PARTRIDGE has died of a suspected heart attack, aged 6 8.
The musician passed away near his home in Peacehaven, England on Tuesda y (21Sep10).
Affectionately known as the king of the buskers, the songwriter began h is career travelling around Europe with his guitar to sing on street corn ers.
He achieved chart success in 1968 when his self-written single Rosie re ached number four in the U.K. singles chart, while the follow-up, Blue Ey es, peaked at number three.
Partridge’s final chart hit, Breakfast On Pluto, came a year later (69) but he continued to perform, most notably recording the album The Highwa yman in 2004 with Herbie Flowers, Nick Pynn and Richard Durrant. (CL/SDS/

COLLINS DEFENDS SWITZERLAND MOVE

British rocker PHIL COLLINS has defended his decision to live in tax-have n Switzerland - insisting he moved to ensure his third wife could stay cl ose to her ailing father.
The former Genesis star wed Orianne Cevey in 1999 and they settled in a palatial property overlooking Lake Geneva with their two young sons, Nic holas and Matthew.
Despite their marriage breakdown in 2006, Collins still lives in the ar ea - and he’s adamant his decision to stay in Switzerland has nothing to do with the low rates of tax in the country.
He tells Britain’s Daily Mirror, "There’s all these comments, ‘Why do y ou live in Switzerland?’ People still say, ‘Oh, the tax is good here.’ "I moved here to Switzerland because I fell in love with Orianne. She l ived here. Sure I could have made her move to England but I can do whatev er I do here.
"Her father was dying of cancer, and her grandmother and grandfather we re dying from cancer. So I wasn’t going to pull her away from them. So th at’s why I live here. And the only reason I still live here is because my sons are here."

EDDIE FISHER DIES

Singer EDDIE FISHER, who was once married to DAME ELIZABETH TAYLOR, has d ied at the age of 82.
The entertainer, who sparked outrage in the 1950s when he left wife Deb bie Reynolds for her pal Taylor, passed away in California on Wednesday ( 22Sep10).
Fisher died as a result of complications stemming from recent hip surge ry, according to his family.
A statement reads, "He was loved and will be missed by his four childre n: Carrie, Todd, Joely, and Tricia Leigh as well as his six grandchildren .. He was an extraordinary talent and a true mensch (admirable person)." Fisher became a teen idol in the 1950s with tracks including Thinking O f You and Oh! My Pa-Pa.
But he later became better known for his scandalous love life - as well as Reynolds and Taylor, he was also married to actress Connie Stevens, T erry Richard and Betty Lin, who died in 2001.
His children include Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher and Ellen star Joe ly Fisher.

WILLIAMS RELISHED EVIL ROLES

Funnyman ROBIN WILLIAMS jumped at the chance to star in 2002 thrillers ON E HOUR PHOTO and INSOMNIA after years of starring in family-friendly film s.
The actor was the star-turn in many hit 1990s kids movies, including Ju manji and Mrs. Doubtfire, but he admits he was growing tired of the roles he was being offered - and was delighted when he got the chance to turn nasty for the two projects.
He tells Britain’s Time Out magazine, "It=E2=80=99s very hard to convin ce people to offer you something else. I wasn=E2=80=99t getting offered ( serious) roles! When I got offered them I said right away, ‘I=E2=80=99ll do Insomnia, I=E2=80=99ll do One Hour Photo.’ It was so freeing! STRESSED AFFLECK LEFT EXHAUSTED FROM THE TOWN

BEN AFFLECK struggled as the star and director of new heist movie THE TOW N because he regularly felt stressed and exhausted by the workload he’d t aken on.
The 38 year old plays a bank robber attempting to turn his life around in the acclaimed new movie - but he admits filming took its toll on his h ealth.
He says, "I was stressed completely and I was on the verge of exhaustio n all the time." But Affleck is proud of his all-star cast, including Jeremy Renner, Reb ecca Hall, Jon Hamm and Blake Lively, for constantly supporting him.
The actor adds, "I was ably supported, the actors were incredible, the crew members did an extraordinary job and you stand on all these people’s shoulders.
"It’s not just like, ‘Oh I’m the director and I make it and do it’ - yo u have to have people who are really talented and I did in this case and I’m deeply grateful." FOSTER & WINSLET TO WORK WITH POLANSKI=20

KATE WINSLET and JODIE FOSTER are to team up for director ROMAN POLANSKI’ s new film GOD OF CARNAGE.
The film adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s Tony-winning play will begin shoo ting in France at the beginning of 2011.
The comedy is set in New York, but exiled Polanski is refusing to retur n to America, where he still faces 30-year-old child sex charges.
The moviemaker was recently released from house arrest in Switzerland a fter he was threatened with extradition to the U.S. to face the charges a gainst him.
Inglorious Basterds star Christoph Waltz and Matt Dillion will play Fos ters and Winslet’s partners in the film.

WALLIAMS’ FATHERHOOD DREAM

British funnyman DAVID WALLIAMS is keen to become a father one day - and he hopes to welcome a brood of girls rather than boys.
The Little Britain star wed model Lara Stone in May (10) and the happy couple has discussed the possibility of parenthood in the future.
But Walliams is adamant he’d like daughters instead of sons - because h e prefers girlie pastimes to sports.

British actress ROSAMUND PIKE has angrily dismissed suggestions moviemake r JOE WRIGHT called off their wedding because she turned into a "bridezil la", insisting she never had any plans for a "fairytale" ceremony.

"When you’re an actress you’ve so many chances to do the fairytale thin g. For me it wasn’t about the wedding at all, it was about the marriage. I was really interested in marriage, and what it means, and what one prom ises. I take that very seriously.

Director JAMES CAMERON has fought off competition from his TITANIC star L EONARDO DiCAPRIO to be named the most influential man in Hollywood.
The Avatar moviemaker topped the Film Power 100 rundown in British news paper the Guardian, leaving DiCaprio trailing in third.
Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg came in second and Disney/Pixar executive John Lasseter was voted into fourth place.
Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt rounded out the top five, while his pal George Clooney was named the ninth most powerful movie man.

GWEN STEFANI was left almost speechless when her waxwork figure was unvei led before her at Las Vegas’ Madame Tussauds museum on Wednesday (22Sep10 ) - because it was a mirror image of the NO DOUBT star.
The Don’t Speak hitmaker’s midriff-baring waxwork double drew a shriek from Stefani as the curtain on the new Venetian hotel attraction fell.
