ABBA STARS SUE OVER SONG USE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:42 pm

ABBA stars BENNY ANDERSSON and BJORN ULVAEUS are taking legal action to s top a controversial Danish political party using their hit song MAMMA MIA ..
The Swedish musicians have filed suit against executives at far-right g roup the Danish People’s Party (DF), who have allegedly been playing the 1975 track at rallies. The youth wing of the party is also said to have u sed the song and changed the lyrics to Mamma Pia, in honour of party lead er Pia Kjaersgaard.
Andersson claims he found out about the alleged infringement when he wa s contacted by a rival party and he is now consulting lawyers in a bid to make sure the song is not used for political purposes.
He says, "Firstly, you cannot just rewrite songs as you like and second ly we want them to understand that we have absolutely no interest in supp orting their party. Abba never allows its music to be used in a political context. This is something that we have pointed out to the Danish People ’s Party." Other acts to have complained about political parties using their music include Canadian rockers Rush and The Eagles star Don Henley, who won a major legal battle with a California politician who used two of his songs as campaign anthems without permission.

FRANKLIN DEFENDS HER SON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:42 pm

ARETHA FRANKLIN has come to the defence of her badly beaten son following reports he refused to co-operate with police in the aftermath of his gas station attack - insisting his injuries prevented him from giving a stat ement.
Eddie Franklin, 52, was allegedly attacked on the forecourt of a garage in Detroit, Michigan on Monday night (20Sep10).
He was hospitalised and underwent emergency surgery, but reportedly dis charged himself from the medical facility before cops arrived to talk to him about the incident.
A police spokeswoman confirmed officers were interested in talking to E ddie after being told he "walked out (of hospital) on his own" and urged him to report the crime.
The Queen of Soul has now come forward to explain why her son was not a ble to talk to police straight away - his jaw has been wired shut by doct ors.
She also criticised cops for talking to the media and giving "the impre ssion that my son was not being cooperative".
Franklin says, "After observing my son on Tuesday, it was clear that he was unable to communicate with anyone after such a traumatic attack and with his jaw wired. The officer probably would not have been able to give a statement if he had been attacked by three men the very next day, eith er, and it was totally unreasonable to expect Eddie to do so as if he wer e not being cooperative." The news comes after Franklin cancelled a gig in Kansas City, Missouri to take care of Eddie as he recovers from his ordeal.
Chaka Khan has now stepped in to take Franklin’s place at the concert o n Sunday (26Sep10).
