HAMILL STILL AFFECTED BY CANCER TREATMENT

Former Olympic ice-skating champion DOROTHY HAMILL is still struggling to overcome the side effects of her breast cancer battle, two years after b eating the disease.
The retired sportswoman was diagnosed with the deadly illness in 2007 a nd underwent intense radiation treatment to kill off the cancerous cells.
The 54 year old was given the all clear in 2008 but Hamill admits she f aces regular periods of fatigue and side effects from the surgery and the pills she has to continue taking to prevent the disease coming back.
She tells People.com, "It’s out of my system. I’m here and so far, so g ood. I’m not feeling great, but I’m better.
"I don’t have a lot of energy. I get really tired. Even when I’m not sk ating I get tired."

MODEL PRICE GUILTY ON DRIVING CHARGE

British glamour model KATIE PRICE has been fined $1,500 (=C2=A31,000) aft er she was found guilty of failing to maintain full control of a luxury h orsebox while driving in England in February (10).
Traffic police in Sussex spotted the busty brunette lose control of the large vehicle and drift into another lane on a busy road, causing two on coming cars to swerve out of the way.
Cops claimed the 32 year old, also known as Jordan, had been using her cell phone for up to three seconds when the incident took place on 19 Feb ruary (10).
Price denied the charge, insisting she had not been distracted by her m obile phone, and blamed her bad road skills on being a "typical woman dri ver".
She told the court, "I’m just not used to a lorry that big. I was proba bly a bit scared because it was on a motorway. I don’t remember veering b ut it is quite difficult." Price had been on her way to Euro Disney in Paris, France with friends and family, including four children, when she was pulled over by cops.
She was cited for the phone violation and allowed to continue her journ ey.
But a jury at Mid Sussex Magistrates’ Court found Price guilty of not b eing in proper control of a vehicle during a hearing on Tuesday (28Sep10) and she was ordered to pay the fine, in addition to legal costs amountin g to $975 (=C2=A3650).

TV CREATOR SIMON AWARDED $500,000 ‘GENIUS’ GRANT

American screenwriter and TV producer DAVID SIMON has been awarded a $500 ,000 (=C2=A3333,330) grant for his groundbreaking work on hit shows THE W IRE and TREME.
Executives at The MacArthur Foundation announced 23 recipients of their "genius" grant on Tuesday morning (28Sep10), among them a quantum astrop hysicist, a marine biologist, a computer security scientist and a high sc hool physics teacher.
Simon was praised for exploring "with the nuance and scope of novels (t he) constraints that poverty, corruption, and broken social systems place on the lives of a compelling cast of characters, each vividly realised w ith complicated motives, frailties, and strengths".
The TV creator and his fellow recipients will receive $500,000 each to support their projects over the next five years, allowing them "to reflec t, create, and explore".
Simon admits he’s yet to make plans to spend the cash, although he is k een to increase his charitable efforts.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I’m obviously in an industry that pays well, and I’m on contract with (U.S. TV network) HBO, so the money is no t the most meaningful part of the fellowship… I might want to pursue so mething that has minimal commercial value, and funding in that case might be more relevant. But my first inclination is to do something charitable .."

FORMER U.S. PRESIDENT CARTER HOSPITALISED AFTER FLIGHT

Former U.S. president JIMMY CARTER is recovering in hospital after suffer ing an "upset stomach" onboard a flight to Cleveland, Ohio on Tuesday (28 Sep10).
America’s 39th president was admitted to Metro Health Hospital at appro ximately 11.30am local time after paramedics were called to meet his plan e upon arrival at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
A spokesperson for the 85-year-old politician says he is "resting comfo rtably" after receiving medical attention, reports CNN.
Spokeswoman Deanna Congileo, from his non-profit organisation The Carte r Center, says in a statement, "While on a flight to Cleveland, former U.
S. President Jimmy Carter developed an upset stomach, and, upon arrival, was taken to Metro Health Hospital for observation.
"He is resting comfortably and is expected to resume his book tour this week."

SMITH’S FIGHT FOR OIL MOGUL’S CASH RECONSIDERED BY SUPREME COURT

ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s fight for cash from her late husband’s estate will co ntinue from beyond the grave - officials at the U.S. Supreme Court have a greed to reconsider the case.
The busty blonde launched a legal battle for a $300 million (=C2=A3200 million) share of oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall’s estate prior to her dea th in 2007, maintaining he promised her the money during their 14-month m arriage.
In his will, the 89 year old, who died in 1995, left his entire fortune to his son, E. Pierce Marshall - and Smith’s legal advisers have been tr ying to win a share of the cash ever since.
Their bid was dealt a blow in May (10) when judges at a Los Angeles app eals court ruled a Houston, Texas jury was correct in determining that th e oil mogul was mentally fit when he signed his will.
Smith’s attorneys have continued to appeal the ruling and took the case to the U.S. Supreme Court, where officials decided on Tuesday (28Sep10) to reconsider the result of the Texas hearing.
If Smith’s lawyers are triumphant in their battle, any money awarded to the late star’s estate will benefit her four-year-old daughter Dannielyn n Birkhead, who was named the sole heir of the model’s fortune. (MT/WNWA/

TARANTINO’S FILM EDITOR FOUND DEAD

QUENTIN TARANTINO’s friend and longtime film editor, SALLY MENKE, has bee n found dead in Los Angeles at the age of 56.
Menke went hiking with her dog in Beachwood Canyon on Monday (27Sep10), when the city was experiencing record heat waves, but failed to return h ome.
Her body was discovered in the early hours of Tuesday (28Sep10), after pals alerted authorities to her absence, reports the Los Angeles Times. H er pet pooch was found alive and well.
Menke began her career in 1990 when she landed a job on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but her big break came in 1992 when she teamed up with Tar antino for Reservoir Dogs, the first of eight collaborations between the pair.
Her work on Pulp Fiction earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Film E diting in 1995 and she received further recognition by the Academy earlie r this year (10) with Inglorious Basterds.
Menke also worked with Billy Bob Thornton on All the Pretty Horses and Daddy and Them in 2000. Michael Lander’s psychological thriller Peacock ( 2010) was her last credited film project.
Police have launched an investigation into her demise, although the cau se of death has yet to be confirmed.
Temperatures reached an all-time high of 113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 deg rees Celsius) in Los Angeles on Monday (27Sep10).

IFANS USED ROCK TO RECOVER FROM MILLER REJECTION

Welsh actor RHYS IFANS used music to mend his broken heart following his split from SIENNA MILLER - by founding a new rock band.
The Notting Hill star was devastated when Miller ended their year-long relationship in 2008, and he returned to his native Wales to recover.
And the former Super Furry Animals musician bounced back from the break -up by throwing himself into music with new band The Peth.
Ifans tells Britain’s The Times, "To come home and be with the people I love most in the world is better than lying on any couch. I highly recom mend if an A-list superstar dumps you, just join a rock ‘n’ roll band." But Ifans admits he’s baffled by his resulting reputation as a womanise r after his romance with Miller - insisting he’s a loser when it comes to being a Lothario.
He adds, "Even though I’ve had my moments of drink and drugs excess tha t have gone on for far too long, when I gave the Lothario bit a little ru n, it was hopeless. You spend all night getting to like this girl, and th en you’re supposed to move on, avoid her and her calls. I just couldn’t d o it. I’m too soft."

MULLIGAN STUNNED BY STREEP’S EMAIL REQUEST

British actress CAREY MULLIGAN knew she had finally made it in Hollywood when MERYL STREEP took a photo of her and offered to email her a copy.
The 25 year old landed her first role alongside Keira Knightley in 2005 ’s Pride and Prejudice, but shot to international fame when her performan ce in last year’s (09) An Education won her a string of award nominations , including an Oscar nod.

After I’d be en up on stage to receive mine, Meryl Streep grabbed me and said, ‘I took a great picture of you. Give me your address and I’ll email it to you.’ I said, ‘Um..ok…’ This was Meryl Streep."

CONTOSTAVLOS HAS HYPNOTHERAPY FOR SPOTS

N-DUBZ star TULISA CONTOSTAVLOS underwent a course of hypnotherapy to sto p her squeezing spots on her face.
The singer suffered severe breakouts as a teenager and became obsessed with picking her pimples.
She eventually decided a drastic course of therapy was needed to change her behaviour - and she’s pleased her bad habit didn’t leave her with ac ne scars.
Contostavlos tells Britain’s X Magazine, "I stopped doing it about six months ago. From the age of about 14, I used to spend hours in front of t he mirror squeezing literally anything I could find. I could have the tin iest little blackhead and I’d attack it until it was bright red and my sk in was all broken and damaged. I’m so lucky I don’t have loads of scars.
"I had hypnotherapy. I was really sceptical about it working but it tot ally did. Now I’ll only squeeze a spot if I really need to and then I’ll put Savlon on afterwards to heal it. It’s made such a dramatic difference to me. It’s amazing."

RONSON’S CLOTHING DISASTER

Superproducer MARK RONSON was forced to buy a whole new wardrobe of cloth es after he gave a friend permission to donate some items to a charity au ction and ended up with nothing left.
The Grammy Award-winner is famous for his love of fashion and he agreed to hand over some of his less-worn garments to help a good cause.
Ronson wasn’t at home at the time so the musician asked one of his pals to go through his closet and pick out some suitable donations.
And the star was stunned when he returned to find his wardrobe complete ly empty.
He tells Britain’s The Independent Magazine, "I was in London so I had him on iChat holding up the suits to the camera. I would say, ‘Yeah, that one, that one and that one’. Then when I got home I opened the wardrobe and I was like, ‘F**k, there’s nothing left!’"

The SexyBack hitmaker admits he’s "stupid" with new technology and even employs a team of aides to keep his Facebook page up-to-date.
But there’s one time the singer is happy to log on to the web - when he wants to download copies of his own songs.

THE TING TINGS star JULES DE MARTINO has urged KANYE WEST to "lighten up" - because the rapper takes himself seriously even when he’s using the ba throom.

British singer-turned-TV presenter MYLEENE KLASS has caused controversy b y claiming a "newly-married Hollywood star" propositioned her during a re cent lunch meeting and asked her to sign a confidentiality contract.
The former Hear’Say star has been working as a roving reporter for Amer ica’s CNN network, interviewing a string of high-profile names.
The 32 year old now admits one lunchtime chat with a famous face became unsavoury when he asked her for sex and his assistant offered her a cont ract to keep quiet.
She says, "About six months ago, a newly-married Hollywood star asked m e to sign some kind of sex contract with him. I just thought, ‘Mate, whic h planet are you from?’ I met him a few times and when I went to intervie w him it was like something out of a film. We were having lunch and as th e starter arrived he launched into it.
"I was like: ‘B**ger I’ve got main and dessert to go - I’m stuck here!’ Then his PA came over with a confidentiality contract. I just thought, ‘ Oh my God, your poor wife’. LIMP BIZKIT DRUMMER DIAGNOSED WITH PNEUMONIA

LIMP BIZKIT drummer JOHN OTTO has been diagnosed with pneumonia after he was hospitalised in Norway.
The band was forced to cancel a show in Oslo on Monday night (27Sep10) after the musician fell ill.
Otto was admitted to hospital where he was diagnosed with the lung cond ition, while doctors have been performing tests to determine how serious his condition is.
Frontman Fred Durst confirmed the news on his Twitter.com page and aske d fans to send their best wishes to the poorly percussionist.
He wrote, "I am sorry to inform you that John Otto is diagnosed with pn eumonia and has been admitted into a hospital here in Oslo… Please send him positive vibes! We wish you a speedy recovery brother… We’re hopin g he is better in the next couple of days." The rock group is next due to perform in St Petersburg, Russia on 1 Oct ober (10).

RICHARDSON PUZZLED BY ACTING’S PRESTIGE

Oscar-nominee MIRANDA RICHARDSON can’t understand the snobbery surroundin g the acting profession, and was left astounded at the lengths stars go t o for an Academy Award.
The Brit is a stalwart of the U.K. theatre, TV and film scene, and has twice been nominated for Oscars, won two Golden Globes and picked up a re vered BAFTA trophy.
But despite her acclaim and the prestige placed on the prizes she has t aken home, the Harry Potter star remains baffled by how seriously actors take their career.
She tells Britain’s The Times, "Acting is just a job. The seriousness w ith which my profession takes itself sometimes goes over the top. I’m not denigrating it in any way, but it’s not like we’re saving lives. It can be intensely boring.
"The Oscars can be like the Wild West. There is a campaign you can go o n, almost like a political one, where if you say nice things and have you r photograph taken with the right people, it might be enough to tip the s cales in your favour. I don’t think about it much. There are people who h ave been nominated seven or eight times and haven’t won."

SCHIFFER LAUNCHING CLOTHING LINE

The German beauty has signed a deal to create her own fashion collectio n and she is preparing to launch the project next month (Oct10).

RAMSAY’S KITCHEN NIGHTMARES CONTESTANT COMMITS SUICIDE

A New Jersey restaurateur featured on celebrity chef GORDON RAMSAY’s U.S.
TV show KITCHEN NIGHTMARES has committed suicide.
Joseph Cerniglia, 39, was found floating in New York’s Hudson River las t week (ends25Sep10) after officials received a call about a man jumping off the city’s George Washington Bridge. His death was ruled a suicide, r eports the New York Post.
Cerniglia, a married father of three, opened up about his personal trou bles and debt-ridden Fair Lawn, New Jersey restaurant, Campania, when he appeared on Kitchen Nightmares in 2007.
He told the TV host, "I’m financially in trouble - the debt of the rest aurant alone is overwhelming. My personal debt - wife, kids, mortgage - t hat’s a lot of debt. I owe my purveyors about $80,000 (=C2=A353,330) righ t now in cold, hard cash… I can’t see us going on another year." Cerniglia is the second chef to commit suicide after appearing on one o f Ramsay’s cooking shows. Rachel Brown, 41, shot herself at her family’s Dallas, Texas home a year after appearing on Hell’s Kitchen in 2006.
Ramsay had not yet issued comment as WENN went to press.
