HAMM’S DARK TIMES AFTER DAD’S DEATH
JON HAMM suffered from chronic depression after the death of his father - and turned to therapy and antidepressants to cope with his sorrow.
The Mad Men star, whose mother died when he was aged just two, was a 20 -year-old student in Texas when he received the news his dad had passed a way, leaving him parentless.
He was plunged into a dark depression following the tragedy - and only came through with the help of medication and therapy sessions.
Hamm tells Britain’s Observer magazine, "I struggled with chronic depre ssion. I was in bad shape. I knew I had to get back in school and some ki nd of structured environment and… continue.
"I did do therapy and antidepressants for a brief period, which helped me. Which is what therapy does: it gives you another perspective when you are so lost in your own spiral, your own bulls**t. It helps. And honestl y? Antidepressants help! If you can change your brain chemistry enough to …. reset the auto-meter, kick-start the engine!"
