SCHWARZENEGGER SIGNS ANTI-SLAVERY BILL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:15 pm

Movie star-turned-California Governor ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER is doing his bit to wipe out global slavery by signing a new bill demanding the state’s major retailers and manufacturers fully disclose their efforts to stamp out illegal employment.
The outgoing Governor signed the unpopular legislation on Thursday (30Sep10) and now all California businesses must disclose their efforts to eradicate slavery, according to the Los Angeles Times newspaper.
He says, "This legislation will increase transparency, allow consumers to make better, more informed choices and motivate businesses to ensure humane practices throughout the supply chain." The new bill was opposed by officials at the California Chamber of Commerce and the California Grocers Association, who fear the new legislation would make California firms responsible for actions of those far outside the borders of the United States.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:15 pm

A Los Angeles judge has ruled BRITNEY SPEARS’ legal and business affairs will remain under the control of her father following a hearing into the pop star’s conservatorship.
The Toxic singer and her father Jamie Spears met with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reba Goetz on Thursday (30Sep10) for a progress report relating to the order, which has been in place since the singer suffered a breakdown and was hospitalised on an involuntary psychiatric hold in 2008.
According to TMZ.com, the judge had discussed ending the conservatorship with the pop star’s lawyers at previous meetings, but has agreed that it’s best Jamie continues to act as his daughter’s legal guardian for the immediate future.
After the private meetings with Spears and her father, the judge told the court, "At this time all orders will remain in full force and effect." A court date to re-evaluate the possibility of Spears regaining control of her estate has yet to be announced.

TIMBERLAKE PUTS HIS MUSIC CAREER ON HOLD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:12 pm

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE is urging fans of his music to be patient because he has no idea when he’ll release his next songs.
The SexyBack hitmaker is currently enjoying success as an actor and he’s set to follow up his supporting role in new film The Social Network with a new movie next month (Oct10) - and that means his pop career will have to wait.
Timberlake tells Entertainment Weekly magazine he isn’t sure when he will record a follow-up to 2006’s Futuresex/Lovesounds.
He simply says, "I’ll know when I’ll know (it’s time to hit the studio again)." And the singer/songwriter doesn’t feel guilty about making his fans wait for new recordings: "Does a painter make a painting because he has to make it by December 21st? No, he doesn’t. It happens when it pours out of him. That’s how music is for me." But Timberlake insists his current acting ambitions doesn’t mean he’s no longer writing music: "I never stop making music… (but) I just don’t know (in) what capacity I want to be involved anymore."

WATERS KNEW HE’D BE ATTACKED FOR ‘ANTI-JEWISH’ IMAGERY IN THE WALL SHOW

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:09 pm

ROGER WATERS knew his questionable stance on the conflict between Palestinians and Jews would raise controversy on his ongoing THE WALL concert tour - but insists he’s not trying to start trouble.
Waters’ fiancee has come to the rocker’s defence after officials at the Anti-Defamation League in America criticised the former Pink Floyd star for his use of images including the Jewish Star of David and the U.S. dollar sign which are projected above the stage during the shows.
Organisation director Abe Foxman claims Waters is using the imagery to comment on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and insists it could be seen as anti-Semitic.
But Waters’ partner Laurie Durning is adamant the star did not mean to offend anyone with the backdrop, telling the New York Post, "This show is unapologetically anti-war, and we would really like to put a quick end to any possible rumours of it being in any way negative towards any group of people." But Waters knew the images he’s using on his tour would be controversial - in a Rolling Stone article published just before his hit the road earlier this month (Sep10), the rocker was questioned about his imagery and the fact that some might construe images of the Star of David and dollar signs being dropped from a plane as anti-Jewish.
He told the publication, "There are huge, huge profits to be made from war, and that, by and large, is why they happen so often. This show is unashamedly about all those big questions.
"Some people think that people shouldn’t use the platforms that they have because of their celebrity or success. I don’t subscribe to that view at all." But Waters stopped short of adding an essay to his tour in which his was planning to suggest Christianity, Judaism and Islam are equally invalid, stating, "The time has come to put aside the notion of an omnipotent presence." He even asked Rolling Stone reporter Brian Hiatt if he thought he could "get away with this in a rock ‘n’ roll programme". The journalist wrote, "He ultimately decided the answer was no - and cut the essay."

WEST SCRAPS FREE DOWNLOAD AFTER ALBUM LEAK

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:39 pm

KANYE WEST has cancelled plans to give away a new song for free this Friday (01Oct10) because he’s still furious with the hackers who leaked tracks from his upcoming album onto the internet.
The Stronger hitmaker has been treating fans to a brand new download via his website every week since August (10) as part of his G.O.O.D. Fridays scheme.
But he was livid when several of his songs - including Touch It with rap pal Common, and Lost In The World, which features a sample of Bon Iver’s Woods - hit the internet without his permission on Wednesday (29Sep10).
In a series of posts on his Twitter.com blog, West wrote, "It’s messed up that one hacker can mess everything up for everyone… I love to take a year to finish my songs and deliver them to you guys in there (sic) most completed form. It would have seemed like since I give free music every week even the lowest form of human being would respect that enough not to leak unfinished songs from my real album." And, as a result, the rapper has decided to scrap the free download for this week.
In another tweet, he adds, "Due to blogs leaking unfinished songs from my actual album I’ve decided to pass of Good Fridays this week." The leaked tracks were due to be included on West’s as-yet-untitled fifth album.

JAMIE LEE CURTIS: ‘MY FATHER’S LEGACY WILL LIVE ON’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:39 pm

Actress JAMIE LEE CURTIS has paid a touching tribute to her late father, Hollywood icon TONY CURTIS, insisting his legacy will live on through his "great performances".
The Some Like It Hot star passed away at his home in Las Vegas on Wednesday (29Sep10) after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 85.
His daughter Lee Curtis has heaped praise on her dad, insisting they shared a mutual respect for one another’s professions, despite their difficult relationship following his bitter divorce from her actress mother Janet Leigh.
In a statement released on Thursday (30Sep10), she says, "My father leaves behind a legacy of great performances in movies and in his paintings and assemblages.
"He leaves behind children and their families who loved him and respected him and a wife and in-laws who were devoted to him. He also leaves behind fans all over the world. He will be greatly missed." Former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore was one of the first stars to express his sorrow at Curtis’ death, choking back tears as he remembered his old friend.
He told Britain’s Sky News, "I’m shocked. I knew Tony had not been well but I never think that friends are going… I’m very sad, and for Jill his wife who adored him." Curtis is also survived by his sixth wife Jill Vandenberg Curtis, who he wed in 1998, and his four other children.

HURLEY HOPES TO SET NEW PINK WORLD RECORD

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:36 pm

ELIZABETH HURLEY is hoping to paint the world pink in the next 24 hours as part of the launch of a new Estee Lauder breast cancer awareness drive.
The British actress/model, who has been the cosmetics company’s celebrity breast cancer champion for the past 15 years, is aiming for a world record attempt when monuments around the globe are lit pink from midday (30Sep10).
The monuments include the Sydney Opera House in Australia and the Empire State Building in New York City.
She says, "We’re hoping for a new listing for the most monuments lit in a 24 hour period from midday today Eastern time." Hurley is also launching a new charity lip-gloss and lipstick line that will be sold at Estee Lauder counters around the globe with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The star insists she was destined to become such a big part of the Estee Lauder campaign - because company boss Evelyn Lauder asked her to be a part of the project just after the actress lost her grandmother to breast cancer.
She says, "My maternal grandmother died of breast cancer just before I started working with Evelyn and Estee Lauder and so, as soon as she asked me to help, it seemed like the perfect fit because she was one of the ladies that we really had tried to get past all that because she was scared of her breast cancer. She wouldn’t tell anyone that she had a lump.
"So that’s really what has inspired us to now really spread the word, so that breast cancer is not a dirty word anymore." Since starting its pink ribbon campaign 16 years ago, the Estee Lauder company has raised almost $300 million (£200 million).
The new campaign launch will kickstart the upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which begins on 3 October (10).

STONES WORK OUT ON TOUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:36 pm

Rock veterans THE ROLLING STONES take a fitness trainer on tour with them whenever they hit the road to ensure they stay in tip-top shape for their energetic shows.
The music icons boast an average age of 66, but they still manage to rock out on stage every night during their months-long tours.
And they credit their impressive fitness to a dedicated trainer who travels everywhere with the band.
Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood tells WENN, "We take a fitness trainer with us. Mick (Jagger) is always training. I just do a few sit-ups and a bit of running. I’m always moving anyway. I’ve got 140 steps in the tower in my house, so I run up and down those to stay in shape." Despite the advanced ages of the four bandmembers, the Stones rarely cancel concerts because of sickness - and Wood insists he and his bandmates are blessed with excellent health.
He adds, "We’ve only postponed shows when Mick has had a critical throat condition. And that’s incredibly rare. Luckily we get programmed during rehearsals for a big tour.
"Once the whole thing starts moving, we’re too busy to get ill. It’s pretty impressive for a bunch of old men. We’ve probably got a combined age of 500!"
