HILTON THANKS FANS FOR SUPPORT

PARIS HILTON has thanked her fans for their support following her arrest on suspicion of possessing cocaine on Friday (27Aug10).
The hotel heiress was taken into custody in Las Vegas after a car she w as travelling in was pulled over and cops found a suspicious-looking whit e powder in her purse. The substance was tested and proved to be cocaine, according to reports.
Hilton’s attorney David Chesnoff helped get the star out of jail just h ours after her arrest and he spoke out to stop critics jumping to conclus ions about the socialite.
He said, "This matter will be dealt with in the courts, not in the medi a, and I encourage people not to rush to judgment until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law." The Simple Life star has now reached out to her supporters to thank the m for their ongoing well wishes.
In a post on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "I’m so thankful to all my fans for all the love and support you are giving me. Thank you all. Lo ve you so much. Love Paris xoxo." The blonde’s thanks came as reports in the U.K. emerged suggesting she told cops the white powder was not hers because the handbag it was found in belonged to someone else.
A source tells Britain’s The Sun, "This purse in question was a high st reet brand - and by no means up to her high fashion standards. Paris is h oping authorities will see sense and let her off the hook." In July (10), Hilton was questioned by cops in South Africa after her p al was suspected of smoking marijuana during the World Cup soccer festivi ties. . drama MAD MEN and comedy newcomer MODERN FAMILY were the toast o f the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night (29Aug10), winning the e vening’s top honours.
Mad Men’s win for best drama series marked the third consecutive time t he 1960s hit took the prize, seeing off competition this year (10) from B reaking Bad, Dexter, The Good Wife, Lost and blood-sucking vampire series True Blood.
Best comedy series winner Modern Family topped Curb Your Enthusiasm, Nu rse Jackie, The Office, 30 Rock and Glee for its big win
. The show’s Eric Stonestreet took home the night’s first prize, for best supporting actor in a comedy, while the hit also won best writing in a comedy series.
Musical comedy Glee started the evening as the most-nominated series af ter landing an impressive 19 nods, but the show failed to make a clean sw eep - supporting actress Jane Lynch and director/co-creator Ryan Murphy w alked away with wins while Glee star Lea Michele lost out on the best lea ding actress in a comedy to Nurse Jackie’s Edie Falco.
Hollywood stars took over a portion of the evening, as Claire Danes acc epted the prize for best leading actress for her role in TV movie Temple Grandin, which also won the best made for television movie award and saw supporting actors Julia Ormond and David Strathairn take home prizes.
Meanwhile, Al Pacino’s You Don’t Know Jack scored two Emmys, for lead a ctor and writing, while Tom Hank’s The Pacific won for best mini-series.
The Closer star Kyra Sedgwick was a winner for best leading actress in a drama series, seeing off competition from The Good Wife’s leading lady Julianna Margulies
. She took to the stage fresh from her defeat to presen t former ER co-star George Clooney with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, to honour his use of television to help good causes.
Clooney used his speech to urge the media to put the plights of disaste r victims on the front pages instead of headline-grabbing celebrities, te lling the star-studded crowd: "It’s important to remember how much good c an get done because we live in such strange times where bad behaviours su ck up all the attention in the press and the people who really need the s potlight, the Haitians, the Sudanese, the people in the Gulf Coast..
. Pak istan, they can’t get any (press)." This year’s show, hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon, was opened with a ro cking performance from the Glee cast and comediennes Tina Fey and Betty W hite, as the group took to the stage for a song and dance rendition of Br uce Springsteen’s Born to Run.
Meanwhile, the spectacular ceremony was marked by an emotional in memor iam tribute by singer Jewel, who took the stage to play an acoustic versi on of an unrecorded song she dedicated to a friend who recently died of c ancer.

RIHANNA is laughing through the pain after burning her face with a curlin g iron - blaming the painful singe on her large forehead.
The Umbrella hitmaker was styling her new bright red hairdo when she ac cidentally caught herself with the hot tong.
But the singer laughed off the singe, posting a picture of the burn mar k on her Twitter.com page in the early hours of Sunday morning (29Aug10).

GLEE CAST KICKS OFF EMMYS WITH ROCKING OPENING NUMBER

The cast of hit show GLEE kicked off the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards with a rocking opening number on Sunday night (29Aug10) - teaming up with TV s tars TINA FEY, BETTY WHITE and host JIMMY FALLON for a star-studded song and dance routine.
The Glee cast started the night poised to be the toast of the 62nd Annu al Primetime Emmy Awards, after landing a massive 19 nominations, includi ng bids for Best Comedy Series and nominations for cast members Matthew M orrison, Lea Michele, Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer.
And the show’s leading stars joined Fallon to kick off the evening with a musical sketch, based on the idea of raising money for the cast to aff ord tickets to the show.
Along the way, Betty White surfaced as a dance instructor, while 30 Roc k=E2=80=99s Fey joined the performance as the group took to the stage for a rendition of Bruce Springsteen=E2=80=99s Born To Run, which featured F allon on guitar and American Idol judge Randy Jackson on bass.
Mad Men star Jon Hamm and Betty White handed out the night’s first awar d, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, to Eric Stonestreet f or Modern Family.
And the actor used his time on stage to pay tribute to his co-stars and encourage young hopefuls to follow their dreams.
Stonestreet said, "All I wanted to be was a clown in the circus when I was a kid growing up, from the age that I can remember. And to be in this industry and working with such incredible people. A lot of people say do n’t pursue this as a career because it’s difficult, and it is. But I’m mo st proud of all the people I’ve met in this business, our crews, and the people I get to go to work with and act with every day. I get to work wit h Ed O’Neill everyday. I get to work with Ty Burrell and Jesse Tyler Ferg uson and Julie Bowen, it’s incredible."

AGUILERA SLASHES HOME LISTING BY $2 MILLION

CHRISTINA AGUILERA is feeling the effects of the U.S. housing market slum p - she’s slashed the price of her Hollywood Hills mansion by $2 million (=C2=A31.3 million) in the last two years.
The singer initially listed the property in 2008 for $7.995 million (=C2 =A35.3 million), and subsequently purchased Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s $1 1.5 million (=C2=A37.7 million) home in Beverly Hills after the birth of her son, Max.
But Aguilera’s home in the Hills has yet to sell, forcing her to knock millions off the buying price over the years.
According to HousingWatch.com, the star dropped the price by another $2 55,000 (=C2=A3170,000) last week (begs23Aug10), bringing the listing pric e down to $5.995 million (=C2=A33.9 million) in a last ditch bid to sell.
Sales of previously occupied homes in the U.S. plunged 27 per cent in J uly (10), the lowest monthly drop in the last 15 years, according to a re cent report by the National Association of Realtors.

FLOWERS: ‘SOLO WORK IS HARDER THAN KILLERS ALBUM’

Perfectionist BRANDON FLOWERS struggled to record his first solo album aw ay from THE KILLERS - because he was "too involved" with every track.
The rocker has stepped away from the hit group to produce his first sol o release, entitled Flamingo, while his bandmates enjoy a hiatus.
And he admits he was stunned by how much "harder" it was working in the studio on his own.
He says, "I’ve never felt great about The Killers records. I’ve never f elt like any of them were this perfect, cohesive thing. We struggled with that. So now I’m making it harder on myself.
"Maybe I micro-manage too much. I think it’s just that you’re so close to it and worried about it and want it to be perfect so maybe I just get too involved.
"I have fantastic hearing and in the studio I hear every little thing. It could be a little edit or a mistake that nobody else hears deep in the re - and I find it. I do make musicians re-do little bits but I’m not too bad. I’ve seen people worse than me."

BIEBER: ‘SHOW CANCELLATION SUCKS’

Pop star JUSTIN BIEBER has taken to his Twitter.com page to apologise for his Sunday night (29Aug10) concert cancellation - revealing to fans he’s "trying to recover from the not so good news" from his doctor.
The Baby hitmaker was forced to pull out of his scheduled appearance at the New York State Fair in Syracuse due to a mystery illness.
Bieber admits he’s been "super sick" recently, and a doctor ordered the teenager to undergo complete bed rest - but the singer is just sad to le t his fans down.
In a series of posts on the microblogging site, the teen writes, "I rea lly dont know what to twitter… I’m getting rest right now and trying to recover from the not so good news from the doctor.

THOUSANDS GATHER TO CELEBRATE JACKSON’S BIRTHDAY

Thousands of MICHAEL JACKSON fans gathered across the U.S. on Sunday (29A ug10), to celebrate what would have been the King of Pop’s 52nd birthday.
Devoted Jackson fans proved they have not forgotten about the Thriller hitmaker, who died on 25 June, 2009 - and hundreds gathered outside his c hildhood home in Gary, Indiana at the weekend to celebrate his life and m usic.
The singer was honoured with a special This Is It birthday party on Sat urday (28Aug10), where Gary Mayor Rudy Clay addressed the crowd. He said: "The passing of our favourite son, Michael Jackson, is still fresh in ou r hearts. A year later, on the day before his birthday, we honour his mem ory as a great and giving person and as the world’s greatest entertainer.
" Filmmaker Spike Lee - who directed two of the singer’s music videos in 1996 - also led tributes to the star, hosting his second annual free bash to celebrate his late pal in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.
Meanwhile, curators at Los Angeles museum The Autry Center also held a special Michael Jackson Day celebration, during which fans learned the hi tmaker’s signature dance moves.

GUNS N’ ROSES PLAY ON AT LEEDS FESTIVAL

GUNS N’ ROSES backed down from their pledge to boycott Britain’s Leeds Fe stival on Sunday (29Aug10) following their shortened set at the twinned R eading event - but still arrived onstage late.
The tardy rockers began their set more than an hour after their schedul ed start time at Reading on Friday (27Aug10), infuriating festival bosses who were given strict instructions from police and local officials to en sure the band didn’t break its 11:30pm (local time) curfew.
The group continued performing acoustically and overran their finish ti me.
Frontman Axl Rose vowed to pull out of Leeds Festival, telling the Read ing crowd, "Unfortunately due to tonight we will not be at Leeds, althoug h we will try and play a bit more now." He demanded an apology from the events’ organiser Melvin Benn over the situation - and it seems Rose calmed down enough to step on stage to 80,0 00 adoring fans at Leeds on Sunday.

THE LAST EXORCISM TOPS U.S. BOX OFFICE; AVATAR RE-RELEASE FLOPS

JAMES CAMERON’s re-release of sci-fi epic AVATAR was a flop at the U.S. b ox office at the weekend (begs27Aug10), as THE LAST EXORCISM held on to a thin lead over bank heist movie TAKERS.
The horror film came out on top, debuting with $21.3 million (=C2=A314.
2 million) in earnings, followed closely by Takers - the crime drama star ring Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen and Matt Dillon opened with $21 mill ion (=C2=A314 million).
But the figures were so close, experts have warned the films could make a switch in the number one and two spots ahead of Monday’s (30Aug10) fin al weekend results.
Meanwhile, Cameron’s 3-D special edition of Avatar, which included an e xtra nine minutes of footage, failed to draw cinemagoers in droves as it did last year (09). The film didn’t even make the top 10, pulling in a me re $4 million (=C2=A32.7 million), which bumps its U.S. box office total to $753.8 million (=C2=A3502.5 million).

Sports fan SEAN BEAN is putting a small British soccer team on the map - he has joined the board of directors of a club in his hometown.

CUSACK TO PLAY POE

JOHN CUSACK has confirmed he is set to play EDGAR ALLAN POE in a new murd er mystery.
The High Fidelity actor will star as the horror writer in director Jame s McTeigue’s forthcoming The Raven, a fictionalised account of Poe’s myst erious last days chasing a serial killer.
In a post on his Twitter.come page, Cusack announces: "Official I will play Edgar Allen Poe in fall. A film called The Raven, send any Poe gold my way as I begin this journey into the abyss." Ewan McGregor and Jeremy Renner were previously in talks for the projec t but their parts were not specified. It is unclear if either actor is st ill involved.
The period thriller is due to begin filming in autumn (10) and is set t o hit theatres next year (11).

AGRON INTRODUCES PETTYFER TO GLEE CO-STARS

AMERICAN PIE PRODUCER FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY

AMERICAN PIE producer WARREN ZIDE has filed for bankruptcy after he was h it with a tax demand for more than $500,000 (=C2=A3333,000).
A $518,630 (=C2=A3345,753) lien was filed against the moviemaker by off icials of the state of California at the Los Angeles County Recorder of D eeds on 14 July (10).
It was the latest in a string of financial demands dating back to 1999 for Zide - and on 18 August (10) he filed for bankruptcy, according to Th e Detroit News.
In court papers, the producer listed estimated assets and liabilities b etween $1 million (=C2=A3666,000) and $10 million (=C2=A36.6 million) and creditors include the California Franchise Tax Board and America’s Inter nal Revenue Service (IRS).
Zide’s $1.69 million (=C2=A31.12 million) house in Santa Monica is also up for sale, according to the documents.
