STONE ARRESTED ON DUI CHARGE

Country music star DOUG STONE was arrested in Tennessee last week (beg23A ug10) on suspicion of DUI.
The Grammy-nominated singer was driving through the city of Gallatin in the early hours of Tuesday morning (24Aug10) when his car was pulled ove r by cops following a reported tip-off about a possible intoxicated motor ist.
Stone was arrested and released later that day on a $3,000 (=C2=A32,000 ) bond. He is due back in court on 5 October (10).

PERRY: ‘AEROSMITH FUTURE IS UP IN THE AIR’

AEROSMITH rocker JOE PERRY fears the band will be over once its current t our comes to an end - insisting their future together is completely "up i n the air".
Perry recently confirmed his bandmate Steven Tyler has been in talks to join the judging panel of American Idol, although an official announceme nt has yet to be made, and the guitarist criticised the singer for not sh aring his plans with his colleagues.
The rocker is now adamant Tyler’s new role is a done deal and he’s conv inced Aerosmith’s future is uncertain once their Cocked, Locked, Ready To Rock tour comes to an end in Canada next month (Sep10).
He tells Cincinnati.com, "He (Tyler) told me just a couple of days ago he signed his papers to join the show. As far as he knew, everything’s se t to go.
"I think everybody’s a little worn out. The tour is winding up, and we don’t know when we’ll work again as band. That part of it is up in the ai r, and it’s starting to hit home."

TNT STAR MILLS SUFFERS HEART ATTACK

TNT frontman TONY MILLS is recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack on Saturday (28Aug10).
The British singer, who previously fronted metal band Shy and now perfo rms with Norwegian group TNT, collapsed at Oslo airport in Norway on his way to a gig.
He was admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) at a local hospital whe re he received treatment, and is now said to be recovering well.
The rocker is expected to be released from the ICU on Monday (30Aug10) and he has already spoken out to thank airport staff for their quick resp onse after he fell sick.
A statement posted on the TNT website reads, "Mills wishes to thank per sonnel who have helped him at Oslo Airport and in the intensive (care) un it at the hospital. Mills and TNT thank all fans and friends for the supp ort in the last two days."

STAR-STUDDED TRIBUTE SHOW FOR BONHAM

Drummers including former GUNS N’ ROSES star STEVEN ADLER and RED HOT CHI LI PEPPERS’ CHAD SMITH have signed up to take part in a tribute to late L ED ZEPPELIN percussionist JOHN BONHAM to mark the 30th anniversary of his death.
Bonham, nicknamed Bonzo, died in 1980 at the age of 32, effectively end ing Led Zeppelin’s music career - the group disbanded three months after he passed away.
He will be remembered at a tribute concert in Los Angeles on 25 Septemb er (10) - exactly 30 years after the tragedy - and stars including Adler and Smith, as well as Bonham’s son Jason, will take to the stage to play drums on some of Led Zeppelin’s most famous tracks.
The show, titled Bonzo: The Groove Remains The Same, will take place at the Key Club in Hollywood and will also include performances from former Black Sabbath star Vinny Appice and Scorpions’ James Kottak, among other s.
Whitesnake drummer Brian Tichy, who co-organised the event, tells Blabb ermouth.net, "Not a day goes by where I don’t think of John Bonham’s snar e sound, and it hit me - ‘Why isn’t there a Bonzo tribute where every dru mmer gets up… and plays their favourite Zeppelin song?’ I thought of al l the drummers I know that worship at the altar of John Bonham and being in L.A., there are so many here."

CURTIS HAS ‘COMPASSION’ FOR LOHAN

JAMIE LEE CURTIS feels "compassion" and "empathy" for her FREAKY FRIDAY c o-star LINDSAY LOHAN following her recent release from jail - insisting t he young actress was "thrown into the public eye" too young.
Lohan, who shot to fame at the age of 11 with a role in The Parent Trap remake, has been mired in controversy in recent years and her troubles c ulminated in a two-week jail stint this summer (10) stemming from a 2007 DUI arrest.
Curtis worked with the actress on her second movie, 2003’s Freaky Frida y, and admits she is sad to hear of Lohan’s recent problems.

TV WRITER GILLIS DIES

Emmy-nominated U.S. TV writer JACKSON GILLIS has died from pneumonia at t he age of 93.
Gillis, whose career spanned more than four decades, passed away in Mos cow, Idaho on 19 August (10), his daughter Candida tells the New York Tim es.
His small screen credits include episodes of Lassie, Superman, Spin and Marty, I Spy, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Lost in Space, Perry Mason, for w hich he was also associate producer, and Columbo, which earned him an Emm y nomination in 1972.
He is survived by his daughter, Candida Gillis, and a grandson. (JMA/WN

CLOSE REACHES OUT TO DOUGLAS

GLENN CLOSE has reached out to her FATAL ATTRACTION co-star MICHAEL DOUGL AS in the light of his recent health scare - urging the actor to have "co urage" as he battles a throat tumour.
Douglas was diagnosed with the condition earlier this month (Aug10) and is set to undergo eight weeks of chemotherapy.
Close has revealed her 86-year-old mother is currently battling cancer and she hopes her former colleague can stay positive.
She tells OK! Magazine, "You know, just courage (is needed). You know m y mother just had a big operation for cancer and she is 86 and you just h ave to soldier through it and keep a positive attitude."

ACTRESS WINTERS-VERNON DIES OF PNEUMONIA

Beloved U.S. TV actress GLORIA WINTERS-VERNON has died at the age of 78.
Winters-Vernon passed away at her home in Vista, California on 14 Augus t (10) after a battle with pneumonia, her family tells The Los Angeles Ti mes.
As Gloria Winters she enjoyed guest acting roles in numerous 1950s seri es, including Richard Diamond, Private Detective, Racket Squad and Death Valley Days - but she was perhaps best-known for her role as Penny in TV western Sky King.
She retired shortly after the series went off the air in 1959 but found love on the hit show before she quit acting, marrying Dean Vernon, a sou nd engineer on Sky King who died in 2001.
The Sky King role also inspired her to write an etiquette book for youn g girls, entitled Penny’s Guide to Teenage Charm and Personality - which inspired alternative band Nada Surf’s 1996 song and video Popular.
Winters-Vernon is survived by her sister-in-law, Phyllis DeCinces. (JMA

MICHELE’S REP DENIES GLEE MONEY TROUBLES

A representative for LEA MICHELE has dismissed rumours of a feud between the actress/singer and GLEE bosses following reports of a disagreement ov er royalty payments from the popular music spin-offs.
The musical show has spawned a number of CDs which have dominated the c harts in recent months, and reports have surfaced suggesting some of the stars are unhappy with their earnings from the show’s partner record labe l Sony Music.
It follows Michele’s co-star Corey Montieth’s outburst about money trou bles in a recent radio interview.
He told Hot 99.5 Washington, D.C.: "I got 400 bucks from it (Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals) going No. 1. But you know what, that’s OK, b ecause if I’m patient, and if this thing does really well, maybe I’ll see another 400 bucks." Montieth’s rep has dismissed stories he is planning to sign a deal with a rival label, and a spokesperson for Michele is adamant his client is h appy with the set-up, telling New York Post gossip column Page Six, "Lea Michele has always enjoyed working with Sony."

ARQUETTE’S ‘FRIENDLY’ DIVORCE

PATRICIA ARQUETTE has dismissed rumours she clashed with her estranged hu sband THOMAS JANE over custody of their young daughter - calling their on going divorce "friendly" and "not weird".
The Medium star confirmed her split from The Punisher actor earlier thi s month (Aug10) and after filing for divorce, Arquette requested full leg al and physical custody of their seven-year-old daughter, Harlow.
Subsequent rumours suggested the former couple disagreed over how they should split custody of the youngster, but the actress is adamant the leg al proceedings haven’t turned bitter.
She tells E! Online, "We’re both really good. I don’t think people woul d even imagine that it could be so friendly and not weird."

FRENCH DIRECTOR CORNEAU DIES

Revered French film director ALAIN CORNEAU has died at the age of 67.
The movie-maker/writer, who worked with high profile stars including Ge rard Depardieu and Monica Bellucci, passed away in the early hours of Mon day morning (30Aug10).
The cause of his death was not known as WENN went to press, but he is b elieved to have been battling cancer.
Corneau’s latest movie, Love Crime (Crime d’Amour) starring Kristin Sco tt Thomas, was released just two weeks ago.
He made his first film, France Inc, in 1973 and went on to carve out a successful career, working with Yves Montand on 1976’s Police Python 357 and again on 1977’s La Menace.
He directed Depardieu in 1984’s Fort Saganne and their 1991 collaborati on Tous Les Matins Du Monde won Corneau two coveted Cesar awards, for bes t film and best director.

NO SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR HILTON

A Las Vegas police spokesman has insisted PARIS HILTON received "no speci al treatment" after she was arrested on cocaine possession charges on Fri day night (27Aug10).
The socialite and her boyfriend Cy Waits were driving along Sin City’s famous strip when their car was pulled over by cops.
Waits was arrested on suspicion of DUI and Hilton was booked for allege d felony drug possession after a police officer found a suspicious-lookin g white powder in her purse.
Hilton was checked into the Clark County Detention Center, but was free d in less than three hours - prompting rumours her celebrity status secur ed her a quick release.
But a Las Vegas police spokesman is adamant Hilton was processed like a ny other detainee, telling the Chicago Sun-Times, "(She) received absolut ely no special treatment. We are used to celebrities here. They are treat ed no differently than anyone else."

LOHAN STOPPED BY POLICE

LINDSAY LOHAN’s car was pulled over by police in Los Angeles on Friday ni ght (27Aug10) just days after she was allowed back on the road following a driving ban.
The Mean Girls star renewed her licence last Wednesday (25Aug10) shortl y after she completed a jail sentence and a stint in rehab for breaching her probation relating to a 2007 DUI arrest.
She was back behind the wheel within hours of regaining her paperwork, but on Friday night the actress was given a scare when her luxury sportsc ar was stopped by cops.

Irish singer BRIAN MCFADDEN has warned fans not to be fooled by a Faceboo k account set up in his name, insisting an impostor has been posting mess ages on his behalf.
The former Westlife star was stunned to discover someone had assumed hi s identity online and started upsetting his fans, and he’s urged follower s to "stay away" from the account and remain vigilant.
In a series of posts on his official Twitter.com page, he writes, "I ca n’t stress this enough. I do not have personal Facebook. There are fake o nes and they are harassing people. Stay away from them. This is not me!"

BIEBER EYEING TRAVOLTA’S ROLE IN GREASE REMAKE

JUSTIN BIEBER dreams of becoming the next JOHN TRAVOLTA - he’s eyeing the lead role in a remake of hit movie musical GREASE.
The teenage pop singer is set to make his film debut next year (11) in his own 3D movie memoir, which will document his stellar rise to fame.
And Bieber is already considering his next big screen project - he want s to star as Danny Zuko in a new version of 1978’s Grease.
He tells The Sun, "It would be a lot of fun. It’s been talked about a l ot over the years but it would be awesome to play Danny." The Baby hitmaker has also picked out his fantasy co-stars, admitting h e would love to act opposite Miley Cyrus as Zuko’s love interest Sandy Ol sson - and even has roles for Susan Boyle and British singer Cheryl Cole.
He adds, "If I had to pick my perfect Sandy I would go for Miley Cyrus without hesitation. She can sing, dance and act.
"I would really want some great people to star in it. Wouldn’t Susan Bo yle make an amazing Principal McGee? We’d just need to write it into the script that she broke into song. I am obsessed with Susan Boyle. When I l ook at her original (Britain’s Got Talent) audition it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

SLIPKNOT star JOEY JORDISON has been voted the best drummer of the past 2 5 years in a new magazine poll.
The musician came top in the survey by U.K. publication Rhythm - and he ’s stunned by the result of the rundown, saying, "This is beyond unbeliev able. Something like this reminds me every day why I continue to do this.
" Mike Portnoy of U.S. band Dream Theater claimed second place, while the third spot went to Gavin Harrison of British rockers Porcupine Tree.

KRAVITZ REVAMPING JACKSON TRACK

LENNY KRAVITZ has confirmed he’s planning to revive the track he recorded with late superstar MICHAEL JACKSON - he’s been working on a "new versio n" of the song.
The rocker hit the studio with the King of Pop before his tragic death last year (09) to record Another Day, with Jackson on vocals and Kravitz playing along.
But the Are You Gonna Go My Way hitmaker was devastated when a 30-secon d cut of the song leaked on the internet in January (10).
Kravitz, who called working with Jackson "one of the most amazing music al experiences" of his life, denied he was behind the leak and vowed to n egotiate with the late star’s record label in a bid to have the collabora tion released officially.
And on Sunday (29Aug10), the day which would have marked the Thriller s tar’s 52nd birthday, Kravitz boosted fans’ hopes by revealing he was hard at work revamping the track.
In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "Happy birthday Michael. I feel your spirit here with me as I am working on a new version of our t rack."
