MURRAY’S DEFENSE WANTS JACKSON FLUID SAMPLES

Lawyers for DR. CONRAD MURRAY will ask a judge for permission to access f luid samples taken from his late patient MICHAEL JACKSON - in a bid to ai d the medic’s defense in his involuntary manslaughter case.
The embattled medic, who was the Thriller star’s personal physician at the time of his death, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter amid accusations he administered the powerful anaesthetic th at killed the singer last June (09).
According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s report, Jackson died of a cute Propofol intoxication.
Murray is scheduled to appear in court on Monday (23Aug10), where Judge Michael Pastor is expected to set a preliminary hearing date.
And according to TMZ.com, his lawyers will use the court session to req uest an order allowing them to re-test fluid samples to determine the lev el of the Propofol found in Jackson’s body.
A source tells the website the Coroner has fluid samples which have bee n preserved.

HOWDY DOODY WRITER KEAN DIES

EDWARD KEAN, who helped create America’s beloved HOWDY DOODY SHOW, has di ed at the age of 85.
Kean passed away at a nursing care facility in West Bloomfield Township , Michigan on 13 August (10).
He was the primary writer for the popular kids series, which ran from 1 947 to 1960, and was responsible for the It’s Howdy Doody theme song.
Kean is also credited with creating the pop culture phrase "kowabunga!" , used by one of the show’s characters and reclaimed as The Simpsons anim ated troublemaker Bart Simpson’s catchphrase.

HINES SPLITS FROM HUSBAND

Actress CHERYL HINES and her husband PAUL YOUNG have filed for divorce to end their seven year marriage.
The Curb Your Enthusiasm star and Young, a producer and talent manager, filed for divorce on 20 July (10), reports UsMagazine.com.
The ex-couple married in December 2002, and shares a six-year-old daugh ter, Catherine Rose.
A spokesperson confirms the pair "will remain extremely close friends".

LITHGOW: ‘HALL HAD NO TROUBLE ON DEXTER’

Cancer survivor MICHAEL C. HALL’s work ethic hasn’t waned since he began his recovery - the actor is "doing very, very well" and working five days a week, according to his DEXTER co-star JOHN LITHGOW.
In January (10), Hall revealed he was in remission from Hodgkin=E2=80=99 s lymphoma, and was able to undergo most of his treatment while the show was on hiatus.
And Lithgow, who won a Best Guest Actor award for his serial killer rol e on the show at Saturday’s (21Aug10) Creative Arts Emmys, has heaped pra ise on the actor, crediting Hall’s fighting spirit with inspiring his per formance.
After winning his Emmy, Lithgow told reporters, "There were about four days over the course of that season last year (09) that I had to work as hard as Michael does every day. He’s had no trouble this season working f ive days a week, so I’m delighted." Hall previously thanked fans for supporting him through his battle, sta ting, "It’s a real gift to be able to go back to work."

TWILIGHT’S MEYER AND PATTERSON TOP HIGHEST-PAID AUTHORS LIST

TWILIGHT author STEPHENIE MEYER and JAMES PATTERSON have topped Forbes ma gazine’s best-paid authors list.
The Along Came a Spider writer earned an estimated $70 million (GBP46.7 million) in the last year, while Meyer, whose vampire novels have been t ransformed into a hit Hollywood franchise, was paid $40 million (GBP26.7 million).
Horror author Stephen King was third on the list with $34 million (GBP2 2.7 million) and Danielle Steel placed fourth, with $32 million (GBP21.3 million).
They were followed by Ken Follett, Dean Koontz, Janet Evanovich and Joh n Grisham.
Meanwhile, The Notebook writer Nicolas Sparks and Harry Potter’s J.K. R owling rounded out the top 10.

CAMERON WANTS AVATAR SEQUEL FOR 2014

JAMES CAMERON has warned AVATAR fans it may be another four years before they see the next part of the planned sci-fi trilogy - because he’s still writing "tons of notes" to develop the sequel.
The Titanic director began drafting the alien-human love story in 1994 - 15 years before it hit the big screen last December (09) and shattered worldwide box office records.
Fans are already clamouring to find out what’s next for Sam Worthington ’s character, Jake Sully, and his Na’vi lover Neytiri, played by Zoe Sald ana, but, according to the New York Post, he isn’t planning to release t he first Avatar sequel until 2014.
Cameron tells the publication, "Right now, the thinking is that (films) two and three are going to be done together. They=E2=80=99ll be released separately, probably a year apart or maybe even two, but they=E2=80=99ll be done in a bunch.
"I=E2=80=99m mapping out the story line right now, so there=E2=80=99s a proper arc that plays out over two films, but (it) buttons nicely at the end of two, so you don=E2=80=99t get this horrible second-act Matrix fee ling - you know: ‘I=E2=80=99ve just sat through a three-hour movie and f* *k all happened at the end!’" Avatar has so far earned $2.7 billion in box office revenue worldwide, a figure which is expected to skyrocket when the film is re-released for a limited-run on Friday (27Aug10), featuring nine minutes of never-before -seen footage.

GROWN UPS SET DEVOTED TO KIDS

Filming on new comedy GROWN UPS was anything but grown-up - the set was o verrun by the cast’s young children, according to actress SALMA HAYEK.
Hayek joined American kings of comedy Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade and Chris Rock for the new comedy, which was shot in a lake house i n Massachusetts.
The Frida star lived with her two-year-old daughter, Valentina, during the shoot and was delighted to see her co-stars had also brought along th eir kids.
Hayek tells British news show GMTV, "In this movie, it was great becaus e we were all about the same age and everybody brought their children and they were all about the same age. Actually, they’re all girls so we had a big girl party for the summer, day after day. It was just the perfect e nvironment to be working in."

MOMSEN CLEARS UP RIHANNA ‘MISQUOTE’

Actress/singer TAYLOR MOMSEN is making amends with RIHANNA after reported ly slamming her for wearing leather jackets, insisting she didn’t mean to insult the pop star.
The Gossip Girl actress hit the headlines after discussing the Umbrella hitmaker’s edgy fashion choice during a conversation about the differenc es between hard rock and chart-topping tracks.
She was quoted as saying, "People think pop is rock, and the lines are getting blurred. Now Rihanna’s wearing f**king leather jackets, and it’s really annoying." But the 17 year old is adamant she never meant to cause offence to the Bajan beauty.
Momsen tells Britain’s T4, "First of all I’d like to say that quote was spun… it’s a misquote. I was arguing the difference between rock versu s pop and it’s a very pop-oriented world at the moment. There is no rock and the people who dress or have guitars in their music… (for) audience s that’s the closest thing they have to rock right now.
"We’re looking to bring back a real rock band and Rihanna - I wasn’t in sulting Rihanna. Rihanna’s great. (Eminem collaboration Love the Way You Lie) is awesome. That’s a great song."

Funnyman TYLER PERRY can’t wait to retire his movie matriarch Madea, insi sting he "doesn’t get" what audiences love about her.
The actor shot to fame as the sharp-tongued grandmother in movies inclu ding Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea Goes To Jail - but he admits he ’s ready to quit cross-dressing for the role.
He says, "I resented the fact that she became so famous and so many peo ple loved her, because I just didn’t get it, and I did not get her.
"But these days grandmothers are much younger, and much busier. Back in the day, there were grandmothers who would be there for you, give you co unsel, and I think that’s what she represents to a lot of people. BECKHAM SHARES BUNTON’S TYRE WOES

VICTORIA BECKHAM was the second SPICE GIRL to get that sinking feeling th is weekend (21-22Aug10) - a family day out to the beach was marred by a f lat tyre.
The former singer and her soccer star husband David took their three bo ys - Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, seven, and five year old Cruz - for some fun in the sand in Malibu, California on Sunday (22Aug10).
But their day out ended with a letdown - the front right tyre of the fa mily’s Land Rover suffered a puncture and the vehicle had to be towed awa y.
Beckham’s former Spice Girl bandmate Emma Bunton suffered similar woes on the same day - she was held up on her way to host U.K. TV talent show Don’t Stop Believing when her car got a flat tyre.

She tells Britain’s Daily Mail, "I do get lonely at times. I’ve had two serious boyfriends in my life and they’ve both driven me not to trust. I know I have trust issues. I won’t make new friends.

Queen of country DOLLY PARTON is teaming up with QUEEN LATIFAH on the big screen - the pair will try to save a gospel choir from closure in new mu sical JOYFUL NOISE.
The 64-year-old singer will make her movie comeback starring as a widow who takes over her late husband’s job as the director of the small-town Pacashau Gospel Choir.
And Latifah will come to her aid, playing a mum-of-two who is put in ch arge of the vocal group, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

CARLILE ‘DEVASTATED’ BY LILITH FAIR CANCELLATIONS

Singer BRANDI CARLILE was devastated after several dates on the ill-fated Lilith Fair tour were scrapped - because poor ticket sales meant she cou ld only perform twice on the summer (10) trek.
The Story hitmaker was delighted after her idol, Lilith Fair co-founder Sarah McLachlan, invited her to join the bill with artists including Nor ah Jones, Carly Simon, Kelly Clarkson and the Go-Go’s.
But organisers were forced to call off a handful of summer dates when t hey couldn’t shift tickets - and Carlile admits she was heartbroken after only completing two dates.
She tells Spinner.com, "It was a huge bummer. It was so sad. It was dev astating.
"I’m not really very business-savvy, so I couldn’t really speak to (wha t went wrong). I have to say that universally - and not targeting any par ticular festival or concert - I think that the way to deal with the econo mic climate right now is for artists to keep their ticket prices low. Mus ic is the one thing everybody should have a right to, and it needs to be accessible to people that don’t have all the money in the world." But Carlile is confident McLachlan will manage to resurrect the concert s next summer.
She adds, "I have to say, the (shows) that I did attend, I got this fee ling that they’re not gonna give up. That they’re gonna give it another s hot, that they’re gonna do it a little differently and that we won’t be t alking about this in the same context next year."

BARRINO: ‘I WANTED TO END IT ALL’

R&B singer FANTASIA BARRINO has denied speculation her suicide attempt wa s a cry for help, insisting: "I wanted out." The American Idol star was hospitalised for a drug overdose earlier thi s month (Aug10) after she became caught up in divorce proceedings between North Carolina couple Antwaun Cook and his estranged wife Paula.
She had swallowed a mixture of aspirin and sleeping pills but survived the scare, and has now spoken out to insist the incident was not an accid ent and that she was determined to end her life.
Barrino tells music channel VH1, "I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn ‘t care about anything. I just wanted out. At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with - all of it, all of that s**t…
"I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pil ls in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew ex actly what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pil ls." Barrino was accused of breaking up the Cooks’ marriage after Paula Cook accused her of having an affair with Antwaun. RAPACE REBELLED WITH TEENAGE DRINKING

Swedish actress NOOMI RAPACE turned to alcohol as a troubled teen - in a bid to prove she was capable of drinking as much as adult men.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star admits she lashed out while growin g up in the south of Sweden with her mum and stepfather, and began pushin g her limits when she was just 13 by downing booze.
She recalls, "I was always drunk. I hated the way that girls were suppo sed to be and supposed to behave. So at 13 and 14, I thought, ‘OK, I’m a girl, but I can drink like a man. Only faster and harder.’ "But by the time I was 15, I had to go to the doctor, because I was so completely messed up. He asked me how much I drank, and when I told him t hat it was roughly a bottle of whisky a night, he said, ‘Oh my God - you have to stop! Now!"

RAPACE SICK AFTER COMPLETING MILLENNIUM TRILOGY

Actress NOOMI RAPACE was so wrapped up in her role as the female lead in the Swedish movie adaptation of STIEG LARSSON’s MILLENNIUM TRILOGY, she w as violently ill after filming ended.
Rapace played Lisbeth Salander in all three of the original movies and was so committed to her character - a Goth-punk investigator - that she d ropped 14 pounds (6.4 kilograms), shaved her head, pierced her eyebrows a nd lip, and took up Thai boxing.
And she admits her final day of filming was traumatic - she fell ill an d collapsed on the floor of the movie studio’s toilets.
Rapace recalls, "I was Lisbeth, and she was inside me, for one and a ha lf years. I was totally in her violence, in a way, in those days.
"I couldn’t stand. I just lay there, for an hour, vomiting. It was like my whole body was throwing up Lisbeth in a way."

JOOSTEN WANTS MAD MEN SMOKING DISCLAIMERS

Two-time cancer survivor KATHRYN JOOSTEN is calling for MAD MEN bosses to air a warning about the hazards of smoking before characters light up on the hit drama.
The Desperate Housewives star stamped out her 45-year smoking habit in 2001 after she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She was told she had the d eadly disease again last year (10) and underwent surgery before being dec lared cancer-free in January (10).
The 70 year old admits she’s worried that the characters in Mad Men, ab out the advertising industry in 1960s New York, set a bad example for vie wers by frequently puffing away on cigarettes.
And the actress is urging producers to address the issue with an offici al caution.
She tells EOnline.com, "I think they should at least have a disclaimer at the front of the show saying smoking is relevant to the time and place with the subject matter we’re dealing with and it is not recommended bec ause it causes cancer. They should at least do that." Joosten also wants TV executives to pay for annual chest X-rays "for an y member of the cast and crew who wants one".
