Singer JEWEL abandoned promotional duties for her latest album to take a romantic road trip across America with her husband.
The star released Jewel, Sweet and Wild in June (10), but cut short the accompanying rounds of interviews and TV appearances to take a break wit h her partner, rodeo champion Ty Murray.
The pair set off on a cross-country motorcycle journey taking in the si ghts of New Mexico, Colorado and Montana so far - they have already cover ed around 4,000 miles (6,437) and plan to spend two more weeks travelling before concluding their trip.
She tells U.S. TV host Larry King, "We decided while we’re young and st ill healthy, we wanted to see the country and get to do this amazing ride across the States. So I put an album out in June, and luckily my label w as OK with me leaving. I did a short tour and a few TV shows. That was it .. I haven’t promoted it ever since.
"We’ve done about 4,000 miles so far. We’re really taking our time, doi ng the byways and the scenic highways and the mountains. We sought cooler weather, leaving Texas. So we did New Mexico, Colorado, Yellowstone. We’ re up in Montana right now…" Jewel admits the journey has been mostly smooth apart from one incident in which she fell from her bike and hurt her ankle.
She adds, "I was on a muddy road, a really slick road, going really slo w - I was just in first gear, but I fell over and tore all the ligaments in my ankle. That was probably the worst thing that’s happened." (LR/WNVK

SNOOP DOGG made a surprise appearance at the second annual Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson event in New York on Sunday (29Aug10) to mark the late K ing of Pop’s 52nd birthday.
The rapper joined in the festivities at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, an ev ent organised by movie director Spike Lee, and treated the crowd to a spe cial performance of his hits, remixed with a variety of famous Jackson tu nes.
The event also featured a set from rapper Warren G, while civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton led a minute’s silence for the late superstar , as well as the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which struck New Orleans, Louisiana five years ago.

A fake ticket promoter is facing jail after he admitted targeting hundred s of TAKE THAT fans in a major concert scam.
Many devotees were left heartbroken after paying to see the British boy band perform in Birmingham, England in 2007 only to find the tickets they had bought online were fake.
Jason Debney, 38, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court, England on 23 August (10) and pleaded guilty to a charge of fraud for setting up an eBa y account in a false name and selling more than $12,000 (=C2=A38,000)-wor th of fake tickets to fans.
He will be sentenced 20 September (10).

ROD STEWART has vowed his next child will be his last - because he can’t afford to keep looking after his numerous offspring.
The rocker’s wife Penny Lancaster is pregnant with the couple’s second child, which is due in March (11).
They already share four-year-old Alastair, and Stewart is also dad to K imberly, Sean, Ruby, Renee and Liam, from three previous relationships, a s well as a baby given up for adoption in the 1960s.
And the singer is adamant his brood will be complete following the arri val of the new baby.
He says, "I’m very happy but it will be the last. I can’t have any more kids, otherwise I’ll be touring until I’m 90."

PARIS HILTON has been officially charged with felony possession of a cont rolled substance following her arrest in Las Vegas on Friday night (27Aug 10).
The socialite and her boyfriend Cy Waits were driving along Sin City’s famous strip when their car was pulled over by police, with officers alle ging they smelled marijuana smoke coming from the vehicle.
Waits was arrested on suspicion of DUI and Hilton was later detained fo r alleged cocaine possession, after a bag of white powder fell out of her purse in front of a police officer as she pulled out a tube of lip balm.
According to the police report, the hotel heiress claimed she had borro wed the handbag from a friend and believed the white substance to be "gum ".
Hilton is now facing up to four years in prison and a $5,000 (=C2=A33,3 33) fine after prosecutors in Clark County, Nevada charged her with felon y possession of a controlled substance.
The socialite will return to Las Vegas on 27 October (10) for arraignme nt.

LINDSAY LOHAN has vehemently denied allegations she has a drinking proble m and is addicted to prescription pills - insisting she is no longer "you ng and irresponsible".
The Mean Girls actress has endured a turbulent few years which culminat ed in a jail sentence last month (Jul10) for breaching her probation stem ming from a 2007 DUI arrest.
The prison term came just weeks after a judge ordered her to be fitted with an alcohol-monitoring SCRAM ankle bracelet and she went straight to court-ordered rehab on her release.
But in a newly-published interview with Vanity Fair magazine, conducted before her incarceration, the 24 year old is adamant she has never suffe red from an addiction to alcohol or drugs.
She says, "If I were the alcoholic everyone says I am, then putting a ( SCRAM) bracelet on would have ended me up in detox, in the emergency room , because I would have had to come down from all the things that people s ay I’m taking and my father says I’m taking - so that says something, bec ause I was fine…
"I’ve never abused prescription drugs. I never have - never in my life.
I have no desire to. That’s not who I am. I’ve admitted to the things th at I’ve done - to, you know, dabbling in certain things and trying things ’cause I was young and curious and thought it was like, OK, ’cause other people were doing it and other people put it in front of me. And I see w hat happened in my life because of it." Lohan blames her downfall on being a teenager in Hollywood with "a ton of money" and "no one" to stop her misbehaving, as well as associates who would "say they cared for the wrong reasons".
She explains, "I think (things went wrong) the second I didn’t have (st ructure) anymore - I was 18, 19 - with a ton of money and no one really h ere to tell me that I couldn’t do certain things…" But Lohan insists she is determined to turn her life around and become a "respected" actress again.
She adds, "I want my career back. I want the respect that I had when I was doing great movies. And if that takes not going out to a club at nigh t, then so be it. It’s not fun anyway.
"I don’t care what anyone says. I know that I’m a damn good actress… And I know that in my past I was young and irresponsible - but that’s wha t growing up is. You learn from your mistakes."

JASON DONOVAN is pleased he traced his ancestors on hit TV show WHO DO YO U THINK YOU ARE? - because it helped him reconnect with his Australian ro ots after years of living in Britain.
The star is estranged from his mother Sue McIntosh, who was born Down U nder, and he used his appearance on the British version of the show to de lve into her history.
He was shocked to discover he is a descendant of both a politician and a convict on his maternal side, but is glad he finally knows the truth ab out his mother’s family.
And Donovan, who settled in Britain nearly 20 years ago, admits he’s "p roud" to be an Australian despite spending so much time in the U.K.
He says, "Having spent so many years living in the U.K. you tend to for get your origins, you tend to forget what you’re about.

ERIC CLAPTON has a big critic of his singing - himself.
The guitar great admits he has turned down the volume on his voice on h is new album, Clapton, because he wants to sing more quietly.
He admits it’s the only way he can tolerate himself on record.
Clapton tells Mojo magazine, "I hate my singing. I don’t like the way I sing. It all sounds like I’m 16 years old from Surbiton (England). I do my best to try and feel it.
"When I watch Ray Charles sing, I think, ‘That’s it, that’s how it’s do ne.’ He remembers thousands of songs and he sings them all as if they’re the most important song he knows. He does it from the bottom of his heart , every time, every song. And that’s, that’s the inspiration. That’s my i nfluence.
"But I’m imbued with so much self-doubt about my singing, that it’s ver y difficult for me to get to that freedom that those kinds of singers hav e."

DJ SAMANTHA RONSON has offered her condolences to the owner of a small Ma ltese dog her bulldog is believed to have killed in a vicious attack on M onday (30Aug10).
Lindsay Lohan’s ex-girlfriend was walking with her bulldog, Cadillac, n ear her Los Angeles apartment when her pet is said to have attacked a sma ller pooch nearby.
