HOGAN PREVENTED FROM LEAVING AUSTRALIA OVER TAX DISPUTE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

CROCODILE DUNDEE star PAUL HOGAN has been banned from leaving his native Australia until he settles his long running tax dispute.
The actor, who lives in Los Angeles, flew into Sydney on Friday (20Aug1 0) for the funeral of his 101-year-old mother and was served with a depar ture prohibition order.
The papers, which prevent Hogan from leaving his homeland, stem from an ongoing investigation by officials at the Australian Taxation Office (AT O), who have been chasing Hogan for millions of dollars in allegedly unpa id taxes for several years.
The star’s lawyer Andrew Robinson says, "He is stunned and very disappo inted that the government could treat him as a flight risk.
"He denies the liability asserted by the ATO and has filed objections w hich have not been the subject of any response from the ATO. He will cont inue to defend his position through all available legal and other channel s.
"The process of detaining Paul in Australia away from his wife and chil d in Los Angeles has devastated Paul and he hopes that discussions betwee n us and the ATO will lead to a prompt resolution allowing him to return to his family, and thereafter to travel to and from Australia as his pers onal and business needs require." The investigation is focused on allegations that Hogan channelled milli ons of dollars into tax havens abroad.
In June (10), the actor lost an appeal to prevent his private tax recor ds from being released into the public arena. He is now believed to owe a staggering $32.1 million (=C2=A321.4 million) after officials amended hi s bill in July (10).

NORDEGREN BREAKS SILENCE AFTER WOODS DIVORCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:18 pm

TIGER WOODS’ ex-wife ELIN NORDEGREN has finally spoken out about the brea kdown of their marriage - revealing she felt "embarrassed" that she "neve r suspected" her husband was cheating on her.
The couple split last year (09) after news of the sportsman’s numerous infidelities hit the headlines, and their divorce was finalised this week (begs23Aug10).
Nordegren went into hiding when Woods’ private life was thrust into the spotlight, but she has finally opened up about her ordeal in an intervie w with America’s People magazine.
The Swedish beauty insists she felt "disbelief and shock" when she firs t found out about her former partner’s cheating, and although they attemp ted to work on their relationship after the revelations, she admits they had to separate because their marriage would not work "without trust and love".
She says, "I’m so embarrassed that I never suspected - not a one (sic).
For the past three and a half years, when all this was going on, I was h ome a lot more with pregnancies, then the children… I felt stupid as mo re things were revealed - how could I not have known anything? The word ‘ betrayal’ isn’t strong enough. I felt embarrassed for having been so dece ived. I felt betrayed by many people around me…
"I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock, to anger and ul timately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my child ren… I’ve been through hell. It’s hard to think you have this life, and then all of a sudden - was it a lie? You’re struggling because it wasn’t real." Nordegren also dismissed the rumours of a violent altercation between t he former couple at their Florida home last year (09) shortly before the cheating scandal broke, which ended in Woods crashing his car into a tree on a neighbour’s lawn.
The 30 year old insists allegations she attacked the sportsman with a g olf club simply aren’t true, adding, "There was never any violence inside or outside our home. The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous." Nordegren, who is rumoured to have received a massive multi-million dol lar divorce settlement from the golf champion, insists she doesn’t care a bout the payout she received at the end of their marriage because "money can’t buy happiness or put my family back together." But she now feels hopeful for the future - she is spending time with th e former couple’s two children, Sam, three, and Charlie, 19 months, and i s focusing on a college course in psychology.
She says, "My immediate plan is for the kids and me to continue to adju st to our new situation. I am going to keep taking classes, but my main f ocus is to try to give myself time to heal… I am now going to do my ver y best to show (the children) that alone and happy is better than being i n a relationship where there is no trust."

LOHAN’S LAWYER FIGHTS TO PROCEED WITH AD LAWSUIT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

LINDSAY LOHAN’s lawyer has filed new legal documents to persuade a court to proceed with the actress’ lawsuit over an advert which allegedly used her name and parodied her life for profit.
The Mean Girls star filed a $100 million (=C2=A366.7 million) suit agai nst chiefs at financial firm E-Trade in March (10) over a commercial whic h depicts a baby girl called Lindsay as a boyfriend stealer and a "milkah olic".
Her legal team accused advertising bosses of exploiting their client’s famous first name and public persona without permission, insisting the us e of the name Lindsay is a direct reference to Lohan.
E-Trade bosses filed a motion to have the case dismissed in May (10), c laiming there are 250,000 women in the U.S. who share the actress’ first name.
But Lohan’s attorney Stephanie Ovadia is fighting to proceed with the c ase, insisting her client is the most famous Lindsay out of a handful of celebrities, including Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, tennis player Lindsay Davenport and actresses Lindsay Price and Lindsay Wagner.
Ovadia’s brief, filed in New York Supreme Court and obtained by the Hol lywood Reporter, states: "The issue… is not how many people in the USA are with the name ‘Lindsay’ or ‘Lindsey’. The issue is how many celebriti es are with this name ‘Lindsay’ in the USA, and then (sic) in the context , manner, characterisation, persona… If Defendants take this name, ‘Lin dsay’ in context of a celebrity name (sic) then by Defendants’ own admiss ion, there are only a few limited celebrities with this name around, and this number may not be more than four or five…
"The type of a particular role and persona, the role of an alcoholic bi mbus woman, that (sic) Defendants were looking for in their said commerci al, none of the other celebrity ‘Lindsay’ as (sic) referred by Defendants …. fits into." DOUGLAS’ LAWYER TELLS EX-WIFE TO ‘MOVE ON’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:21 pm

A lawyer representing MICHAEL DOUGLAS unleashed a scathing attack on the actor’s ex-wife DIANDRA at a court hearing on Tuesday (24Aug10) - urging her to "move on" and stop calling herself "Mrs. Douglas".
Diandra, who split from the actor in 2000, has taken legal action again st her former spouse seeking a share of his pay cheque from upcoming movi e Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
She claims her divorce deal entitles her to half her ex-husband’s salar y from projects he worked on during their marriage, and any possible "spi n-offs" of his previous films, including the original 1987 Wall Street.
The case went to court in New York on Tuesday and Douglas’ attorney, Ma rilyn Chinitz, argued that Diandra hasn’t been married to the Hollywood s tar for 10 years and therefore has no right to claim half her ex-husband’ s money from the new film.
Chinitz told the court, "It’s time for Mrs. Douglas to move on. When do es it stop? Diandra Douglas calls herself Mrs. Douglas, but she’s not Mrs .. Michael Douglas." A lawyer for Diandra, Nancy Chemtob, referenced a line from Wall Street in which Douglas’ Gordon Gekko character famously says, "Greed is good".
She told the court, "Greed is about somebody who doesn’t want to pay ta xes and doesn’t want to pay his spouse." Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper delayed ruling on the ca se.
