CAREY FINALLY ADDRESSES PREGNANCY REPORTS, PLAYS COY

MARIAH CAREY has hinted there’s truth behind reports she is expecting her first child with husband NICK CANNON, confessing she’s too "superstitiou s" to share any baby news right now.
Speculation has followed the couple since Carey pulled out of a Tyler P erry movie over mysterious health concerns in June (10), but she’s yet to confirm or deny whether she’s a mum-to-be.
New photos of the singer performing in Brazil and sporting what looks l ike a fuller figure raised fresh questions and forced Cannon to backtrack over a recent denial. Cannon told New York’s 92.3 FM radio station on Mo nday (23Aug10): "When my wife feels like talking about whatever she wants to talk about, you will hear it directly from her." Carey then addressed the issue via a statement released by her publicis t Cindi Berger on Thursday (26Aug10). But she refused to confirm or deny the reports - revealing even Berger doesn’t know for sure if her client i s expecting.
The statement reads: =E2=80=9CI appreciate everyone=E2=80=99s well wish es. But I am very superstitious. When the time is right, everyone will kn ow - even Cindi Berger." Carey and Cannon wed after a whirlwind romance in 2008.

JEAN BLASTS HAITIAN OFFICIALS IN NEW SONG

WYCLEF JEAN has returned to music following his failed bid to run for pre sident of Haiti - to blast officials for rejecting his campaign for offic e in a new song.
The Haitian-born hip-hop star has been ruled out of the upcoming Novemb er (10) elections in his native country after it was decided he didn’t me et residency requirements.
The Gone Till November hitmaker is keen to appeal through Haiti’s court s but reports suggest the electoral council’s ruling is final and cannot be overturned.
And he’s continued to blast the decision, posting a song called Prison for the CEP on his blog on Thursday (26Aug10), referring to the commissio n which rejected his run for office.
Jean also chides President Rene Preval as he sings in Creole.
It’s not the first time Jean’s music has taken on political themes. He previously recorded a song called If I Were President.

STARR SUED BY CREDIT CARD BOSSES

Celebrity investment advisor KENNETH STARR’s legal woes are mounting behi nd bars - he’s been sued by credit card bosses at American Express amid a llegations he failed to pay over $350,000 (GBP233,330) in charges.
According to a lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Starr and his accounting firm ran up $343,430.87 (GBP228,950) on a Platinum card and $7 ,365.23 (GBP4,910) on a Gold card.
The suit reads: "Despite due demand, Starr has failed and refused to pa y Centurion Bank any portion of the amount due." Starr is accused of masterminding a $59 million (GBP39.3 million) Ponzi -like scheme and has been behind bars since his May (10) arrest.
He is accused of defrauding celebrity clients including heiress Rachel ‘Bunny’ Mellon, and has also represented Uma Thurman, Wesley Snipes, Mart in Scorsese and Sylvester Stallone, although there is no indication they were victims.
Starr pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of wire fraud and one count each of securities fraud, money laundering and fraud by an investment adviser and is scheduled for trial on 1 November (10).

TAYLOR TO FACE RAPE CHARGES NEXT MONTH

American football legend LAWRENCE TAYLOR has been ordered to appear in co urt next month (Sep10) to face charges he paid a minor for sex.
The retired New York Giants star, 51, was arrested on 6 May (10) at a h otel in Montebello, New York amid allegations he paid a 16-year-old girl $300 (GBP200) for sex.
Last month (Jul10), he entered a not guilty plea to charges of third-de gree rape, patronising a prostitute, sexual abuse and endangering a child ..
On Wednesday (25Aug10), Taylor’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, and prosecutors met behind closed doors with New York Supreme Court Justice William Kell y for the first time since Kelly took over the case. Kelly was assigned t he case this month (Aug10) after Rockland County Court Judge William Nels on recused himself for undisclosed reasons.
Kelly set a court date for 24 September (10), when a plea deal could be offered, reports the New York Post.
Taylor was not present at the hearing, where Aidala reportedly reiterat ed his defense, insisting the icon was arrested because of a young girl’s lie.
Aidala reportedly told the judge: "She did lie. She did not know who he was, but she did know that he was a famous athlete." If convicted, Taylor faces up to four years in prison.

O’NEAL ENGAGED?

Basketball icon SHAQUILLE O’NEAL has sparked reports he’s set to wed real ity TV star NICOLE ALEXANDER after he was spotted slipping a ring on her finger during a recent night out.
The I Love Money reality show winner, who has dated the athlete since h is split from estranged wife Shaunie, reportedly got a marriage proposal during a dinner with friends in St. Louis, Missouri.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, O’Neal took Alexander and fri ends to Sahara Mediterranean Cuisine and Hookah Lounge for dinner on Mond ay night (23Aug10), and Lounge owner Sam David believes that is where O’N eal may have popped the question.
David tells the newspaper, "I think he may have proposed to his girlfri end. He brought a chair into the middle of the dance floor and he put a r ing on her finger." Shaunie filed for divorce from the sportsman in November (09). The ex-c ouple shares four children.

YOST ‘COMES OUT’ AS GAY

Actor DAVID YOST has ended years of speculation surrounding his sexuality by ‘coming out’ as gay - and he’s taken aim at the creators of U.S. TV s eries MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS for discriminating against him.
The star, who played Blue Ranger Billy Cranston from 1993 to 1996 and i n a 1995 feature film, reveals to nopinkspandex.com he eventually quit th e show because he was constantly harassed for being gay.
And Yost, now 41, says his treatment was so bad he suffered a nervous b reakdown and struggled to accept his sexuality following his departure.
He says, "I was called f**got one too many times (by the show’s) creato rs, producers, writers, directors.
"I know that my co-stars were called in a couple of times to different producers’ offices and questioned about my sexuality, which is kind of a humiliating experience to find that out." SPACEY AND MENDES REUNITE FOR SHAKESPEARE

KEVIN SPACEY is reuniting with the director who helped him win an Academy Award in a new transatlantic theatre project.
The actor will star as Shakespeare’s Richard III in a production due to open in New York and close in London, directed by Sam Mendes. Spacey an d Mendes scooped Best Actor and Best Director Oscars for 1999 movie Ameri can Beauty.
Announcing the project, due to open on Broadway in February 2012, Space y says, "Sam is one of the finest directors I have had the pleasure to wo rk with and to gain this opportunity is beyond my wildest hopes.
"With such a remarkable character before me, I have a feeling this one is going to be a memorable experience." The play will end its run at London’s Old Vic theatre, where Spacey is currently artistic director.

IGLESIAS MARRIES IN SPAIN

Veteran singer JULIO IGLESIAS has married his longtime girlfriend in an i ntimate ceremony in his native Spain, according to reports.
The 66-year-old star is said to have wed his partner of 20 years, Dutch model Miranda Rijnsburger, in Marbella, Spain on Tuesday (24Aug10).
The happy couple reportedly enjoyed a traditional Catholic ceremony wit h only their children and two witnesses in attendance, followed by a mass at a property owned by Iglesias near the city of Malaga.
Iglesias was previously married to Filipino socialite Isabel Preysler, the mother of his three children Chabeli, Julio Jr, and pop singer Enriqu e.

BOB GELDOF feels squeamish every time he remembers THE BEATLES - because he witnessed screaming girls soiling themselves in excitement at seeing t he Fab Four.
The former Boomtown Rats singer saw the legendary band in concert durin g the height of Beatlemania in the mid-1960s.
And he is adamant apocryphal tales of teenage girls wetting themselves over John Lennon and Paul McCartney are true - he saw rivers of urine run ning down the aisles of the venue.
Geldof tells Q magazine, "The Beatles was a case of watching females in excelsis. It’s the old cliche, but you couldn’t hear them for all the sc reaming. I remember looking down at the cinema floor and seeing these riv ulets of p**s in the aisles. The girls were literally p**sing themselves with excitement. So what I associate most with The Beatles is the smell o f girls’ urine."

LOPEZ EYES COLLABORATION WITH WEST

Singer/actress JENNIFER LOPEZ is calling on KANYE WEST to write her a hit song - because she is desperate to work with the rapper.
The star has faced a handful of setbacks while attempting to revive her music career - she delayed the release of her seventh album, Love?, befo re eventually quitting her record label Epic Records to sign a contract w ith Island Def Jam.
And Lopez insists a duet with West would be a dream come true.

BARLOW REGRETS NOT LOOKING AFTER WILLIAMS

M.I.A. CALLS ON CLINTON FOR VISA HELP

M.I.A. has enlisted the help of U.S. Secretary of State HILLARY CLINTON i n her ongoing visa battles, after authorities refused the rapper’s mother permission to visit her newborn grandson.
The Paper Planes hitmaker has clashed with immigration officials over h er own status after courting controversy with her comments about politica l unrest in Sri Lanka.

ACTIVISTS ARRESTED AHEAD OF U2 CONCERT

A U2 concert in Russia on Wednesday (25Aug10) was marred by arrests after five human rights activists were detained for handing out leaflets befor e the show kicked off.
The Amnesty International campaigners were distributing pamphlets outsi de the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow and asking U2 fans to sign petitions ur ging Russian authorities to solve the murders of journalist Anna Politkov skaya and activist Natalya Estemirova.
The Irish rockers are long-time supporters of the human rights group.
Sergei Nikitin, the head of Amnesty International’s Moscow office, clai ms the band’s management secured the necessary permits for the activists, who have since been released, but a police spokesperson insists the camp aigners didn’t have proper permission.
Volunteers from U2’s charity fund, the ONE campaign, and Greenpeace Rus sia were also said to have been escorted out of the venue.
Greenpeace director Ivan Blokov says, "We were not allowed to collect s ignatures and to talk to people. Our activities were agreed with U2’s man agement, so we are very much surprised.
"I don’t know if Bono knows about what happened to us. It was a typical publicity event, which this organisation has carried out in every city w here U2 has performed."

WILLIAMS BATTLING FASHION BOSSES OVER ICE CREAM CLOTHING LINE

Hip-hop star PHARRELL WILLIAMS has filed suit against an Italian fashion firm in a dispute over the trademarking rights to his Ice Cream clothing line.
The Neptunes beatmaker is suing bosses of the Gilmar Group for blocking a trademark application for his brand name on the grounds it’s too simil ar to the firm’s Ice and Iceberg labels.
The producer claims adding the word "cream" - street slang for money - "creates a vastly different sound, appearance, meaning and overall commer cial impression," reports the New York Post.
Williams turned fashion designer when he founded his luxury clothing li nes Ice Cream and Billionaire Boys Club with Japanese music producer Nigo in 2005.

NO ANGELS STAR ESCAPES JAIL TERM

German pop star NADJA BENAISSA has been handed a two-year suspended sente nce after she was convicted of infecting a former partner with HIV.
The No Angels star was found guilty of causing bodily harm to one man, who caught the deadly virus after she failed to tell him about her condit ion during a brief romance in 2004. She was also convicted of two charges of attempted bodily harm relating to other partners.
During the trial at a court in Darmstadt, Germany, the singer apologise d for her actions, saying, "I am sorry from the bottom of my heart. I wou ld love to turn back the clock, but I can’t." The court took into consideration her remorse and she escaped a jail te rm on Thursday (26Aug10) when she was handed a two-year suspended sentenc e and ordered to complete 300 hours of community service.

SYKES REJECTED BY CHILDHOOD CRUSH

Lesbian comedian WANDA SYKES suffered a painful rejection in high school when she "scared" away the first girl she ever had a crush on.
The funnywoman, who publicly ‘came out’ in 2008, admits she first exper ienced a same-sex attraction when she was just seven or eight years old, but she was left disappointed when her crush didn’t return her feelings.
She tells veteran newsman Larry King, "It was very early on. I remember I was in the maybe second or third grade. And it was these two sisters. And they both liked my brother. I have an older brother. They both liked him. And my brother was off with one of the sisters. And, you know, walki ng around, whatever. It’s like fourth of July, fireworks or something. So I was stuck with the other sister. And… she was walking around with me , trying to find my brother and her sister…
"And she’s holding my hand. We’re walking. I’m look up at her. And I I said, ‘You know, I wish I were a boy because then you could be my girlfri end’. And the look she gave me, like, ‘Huh-uh, don’t ever… Don’t ever s ay that again’… I think she saw I was putting the moves on her. And it scared her. She couldn’t handle it."
