A mediation session aimed at resolving a lengthy legal battle between KAN YE WEST and MARION ‘SUGE’ KNIGHT has failed - neither side could reach an agreement in the ongoing case.
The Stronger hitmaker is embroiled in a long-running dispute with the h ip-hop mogul, who sued West over claims he was shot and robbed at a party hosted by the rapper in Miami, Florida in 2005.
Knight alleges the star should have provided better security checks to stop a gun being smuggled into the venue.
A mediation hearing was held in Miami, Florida on Thursday (26Aug10) in a bid to resolve the lawsuit, with West taking part in the session via t elephone.
But Knight’s attorney, Marc Brumer, tells the Associated Press that no agreement was finalised and the case will now more than likely go to tria l.
The music mogul is seeking more than $1 million (=C2=A3666,667) in dama ges from West.

British funnyman ROWAN ATKINSON has defended plans to transform his Engli sh home into a futuristic modern mansion following a dispute over plannin g permission, insisting the new design will blend "in with the countrysid e".
The Mr Bean star has submitted a planning application to demolish his 1 930s country house in Oxfordshire and replace it with a $7.5 million (=C2 =A35 million) modern "reinvention" and officials at South Oxfordshire Dis trict Council have given the plans the green light.
But the proposals have angered local residents, who describe the new ho me as "an ugly space-age petrol station" and accuse councillors of granti ng permission to Atkinson after being "seduced by money and fame".
The Johnny English actor gave a five-minute presentation in front of th e council=E2=80=99s planning committee on Wednesday (24Aug10) in a bid to win support for the building work.
During the meeting he said, "Musical harmony is not two people singing the same note but two people singing quite different notes that blend in a pleasing fashion. Blending in with the countryside, for many, simply re flects their familiarity with the architecture, looking at and living wit h the same kind of buildings they have grown up with and with which they feel comfortable." And Atkinson’s planning consultant, Haydn Morris, defended the star’s c hoice to hire U.S. architect Richard Meier to design the structure, addin g, "He has built extensively around the world winning very many awards an d he’s very highly regarded as one of the world’s leading architects. We truly believe that the proposal is not simply a replacement house, but a building that will stand the test of time to become a true classic." Atkinson is reportedly hoping to start work on the property next year ( 11).

Hustler magazine boss LARRY FLYNT is facing a battle with anti-AIDS campa igners who have filed a workplace safety complaint against the porn mogul , accusing him of failing to provide a safe environment for his sex stars ..
Activists from the AIDS Health Foundation claim the publisher should en courage adult porn stars to use condoms.
As part of the grievance, filed with the Division of Occupational Safet y and Health in Los Angeles, campaigners delivered 100 of Flynt’s DVDs in a bid to demonstrate that only one scene out of all the movies showed a star using protection.
The complaint claims the movies "clearly demonstrate workplace activiti es highly likely to spread bloodborne pathogens in the workplace", report s the Associated Press.
But Larry Flynt Productions President, Michael Klein, insists porn view ers don’t want to see condoms in the films, saying in a statement, "We wo n’t budge when it comes to condomless productions. That’s what the consum er wants, and we deliver it." The complaint is now being looked into.

CHRIS BROWN has received praise from a Los Angeles judge for doing a "gre at job" following the terms of his probation stemming from his brutal att ack on ex-girlfriend RIHANNA.
The R&B star was back in court on Thursday (26Aug10) for a progress rep ort hearing, after pleading guilty to the February 2009 assault on the Um brella hitmaker last year (09).
The presiding judge was pleased with the progress report handed in by B rown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos.
Brown was praised for attending all of his court-ordered domestic viole nce sessions and for "working consistently" on completing his community s ervice, reports TMZ.com.
The hitmaker is due back in court for his next progress hearing on 18 N ovember (10).

JOHN MAYER has taken aim at socialite ARIANNA HUFFINGTON’s respected blog TheHuffingtonPost.com for publishing an article suggesting he and ex-gir lfriend JENNIFER ANISTON are working on a reunion.
In the piece, a contributor suggested that Mayer was talking about the actress when he revealed he believed in "second chances" during a concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday (22Aug10).
But a furious Mayer has hit back, comparing the blogger to "a stripper wearing reading glasses".
In a post on Tumblr.com, the singer/songwriter suggested a title for an y piece the Huffington Post might run on his response: "JOHN MAYER SLAMS HUFFPO: ‘GO F**K YOURSELF!’" The Huffington Post article also noted that "a woman who resembled Anis ton was rumored to be in the wings," at the concert - a claim dismissed b y many backstage at the event.
Mayer compared Huffington’s blog to "an insolvent law student willing t o dance for a few extra dollars." The rocker and the actress ended their romance early last year (09), an d the musician recently admitted he has "never really gotten over" the br eak-up.
Mayer also took the blog report to task with a post on his own website, in which he wrote, "Huffington Post, this is reporting…? This is equal parts fabricated, cobbled together and misleading.
"Let=E2=80=99s break it down: I don=E2=80=99t think I ever said, ‘I bel ieve in second chances!’ but I can=E2=80=99t be 100 percent sure, as it=E2 =80=99s possible I could have accidentally said something succinctly and to the point. The next sentence is from the song Half of My Heart, in ref erence to the idea that meeting new people allows for hiding old mistakes .."

THE HURT LOCKER star JEREMY RENNER has signed on to join TOM CRUISE in th e fourth MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movie.
The actor will play Cruise’s partner in the blockbuster, which will sta rt shooting in Vancouver, Prague and Dubai later this year (10).

The Live Your Life hitmaker admits he’s yet to make money as an actor a fter earning small salaries for roles in films like ATL, American Gangste r and new movie Takers - but he’s determined to become a big star followi ng his 2009 incarceration on illegal weapons possession charges and is ta king meetings with top executives in an effort to to land big roles.
He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I ain=E2=80=99t made no money in movie s yet, because of the fact that a movie usually takes about three or four months to film. At the time of American Gangster, I was getting $100,000 a show and doing four to five shows a week. And I only probably got $100 ,000 for American Gangster something like that. But I didn=E2=80=99t mind .. I wanted to do it.
"I=E2=80=99d rather be acting full time at 40 than rapping full time at 40. I just think… it=E2=80=99s more suited for a teenager than a 40 ye ar old. My values, principals, beliefs and things I consider important ar e worlds away from where they was (sic) when I just came in the game." But he appreciates he has a few misconceptions about himself to change: "Some people see me as a distinguished young gentleman entering into the next phase of manhood, and some people see me as a young drug dealer-sla sh-thug who has managed to make his way into the entertainment industry. DIXIE CHICKS star NATALIE MAINES will perform a solo set at a rally to su pport the West Memphis Three in Arkansas on Saturday (28Aug10).
The outspoken singer, who received death threats after publicly critici sing former U.S. leader George W. Bush, will join Eddie Vedder among othe r stars at the Little Rock protest.
Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, aka the West Memphi s Three, were convicted in 1994 of murdering three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas.
Maines and Vedder are among the high-profile activists who believe the trio is innocent and should be released from prison.
Maines was sued for defamation in 2008 by the stepfather of one of the murdered children after alleging that some of her comments implied that h e was involved in the murder. He lost his case against the singer and was ordered to pay her legal fees.

British group OU EST LE SWIMMING POOL are forging ahead with plans to rel ease their debut album in October (10), despite the death of frontman CHA RLES HADDON last week (20Aug10).
The singer jumped to his death from a mast backstage at the Pukkelpop f estival in Belgium just after the trio’s set at the event.
But the tragedy won’t halt the release of The Golden Year.
A band statement reads, "After speaking with the late Charles Haddon’s family, remaining band members Joe Hutchinson and Caan Capan have decided to proceed with the original schedule for the release of the record they planned with Charles.
