HILL ‘GIVES BACK’ AT FREE HURRICANE KATRINA CONCERT
FAITH HILL reassured victims of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina they have not be en forgotten during a free concert to raise funds for New Orleans.
Many were left dead and thousands of people made homeless after a massi ve storm wreaked havoc across Louisiana.
Singer Hill marked five years since the storm on Tuesday (24Aug10) by p erforming at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans, which was destro yed during the hurricane and is still undergoing restoration.
Hill is pleased she can give back to those affected by the tragedy, bec ause she feels it’s her "responsibility" to help however she can.
And she’s adamant the area will be able to bounce back once tourism beg ins to flourish again.
Speaking onstage at the event, she said, "We are here for you still and you are not forgotten. I feel like it’s my responsibility to give back. When you’ve been given so much, it’s only right that I do what I can to h elp, if I can…
"Sometimes, with celebrity, you can make things happen pretty easily. M y message is, ‘Come to New Orleans and experience this great city.’ Yes, there are places that are still rebuilding and are not quite back yet, bu t when they do come back, they’ll come back better."
