G-UNIT: ‘EMINEM IS GODFATHER OF HIP-HOP’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:46 am

EMINEM has been handed the ultimate compliment from his rapper pals LLOYD BANKS and TONY YAYO - they’ve hailed him as the "godfather of hip-hop".
50 Cent’s G-Unit bandmates have been left in awe of the rap superstar’s popularity after Eminem made it five weeks atop the U.S. albums chart on Wednesday (28Jul10) with his comeback record Recovery.
The Not Afraid hitmaker racked up first week sales of 741,000, earning him his sixth consecutive number one on the Billboard 200, while his Riha nna song Love The Way You Lie has topped the singles chart for a second w eek.
Banks insists Eminem’s success is down to his "cult" fan base and he’s impressed at how the superstar has managed to keep in touch with his devo tees throughout his personal problems.
He tells MTV News, "I know he’s happy and I’m happy for him. It’s big. Em has a cult following and they ain’t (sic) gonna turn their backs on hi m…
"He brings you into his life. You know about his wife, his kids, his be st friend. On that last album (Relapse), he touched on a lot of those top ics and other personal things he had going on, too. A lot of people can r elate to it. I feel like his music is getting more and more powerful. The messages are bigger." And Yayo is convinced Eminem has reaffirmed his status as a rap icon wi th his latest release topping charts around the world.
He says, "Eminem is like the godfather of the hip-hop game. In a time l ike this, when records are not selling, he’s the only one that is selling .. You know, Drake and all the other ones (did well), but Em did (close to ) 800,000 (in) his first week, and he’s number one for the fifth week. It ’s incredible.
"I think he has a faithful fan base of people who have been following h im for years. They’re not going to stop following him and not stop listen ing to his music. Em said he didn’t like his last album as much as this o ne… But Eminem has followers that’s (sic) gonna mess with him until the day he dies."

"Right now we are just grieving or trying to find time to grieve anyway for the fact that our bro’s gone. It’s weird because some days I don’t e ven think it’s real, so that one’s not going to make sense for a while." But Jordison is adamant Slipknot will live on, reports The Pulse of Rad io.
He says, "There will be no other bass players besides Jim, Mick (Thomso n, guitarist) and me, more than likely. STEPHENS: ‘HUMMEL WAS CRUCIAL TO BIG STAR’S SUCCESS’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:24 pm

BIG STAR drummer JODY STEPHENS has paid tribute to his former bandmate AN DY HUMMEL, crediting his late pal as the key to the rockers’ success.
Hummel, an original member of the band, died earlier this month (Jul10) after a two-year battle with cancer.
His passing was the second major tragedy to hit the 1970s group, coming just four months after Big Star leader Alex Chilton died.
Stephens is the last surviving member of the original Big Star line-up following the death of singer/guitarist Chris Bell in 1978.
And he is adamant the rockers’ music would not have been as popular wit h fans if Hummel had not added his special touch to certain key tracks in their discography.
Stephens tells RollingStone.com, "He was really proud of it (Big Star).
He had to be proud of it, because he was such an integral part of what B ig Star was.
"To begin with, the nucleus of the band was Chris, Andy and myself. Ale x joined the three of us, but it was already getting started.
"You can have one or two pretty remarkable people in a band, like Chris and Alex. They can be painting a particular picture, or painting several pictures. But as you introduce another artist to the painting, that pers on can pull it toward a different perspective, to make it even more speci al, like in ‘Life Is White’, where Andy plays the pump organ.
"He would come up with these interesting chords and textures… It’s su ch a romantic song, for one thing. But sonically, it’s different from wha t had gone before it on the album.
"It wouldn’t have been Big Star without Andy."
