GERMAN ACTOR SCHMIEDER DEAD AT 40

Famed German actor HEINRICH SCHMIEDER has been found dead at the age of 4 0.
Schmieder, one of Germany’s best-known TV stars, passed away in Livigno , Italy this week (beg19Jul10) shortly before he was due to take place in a marathon bicycle race.
The actor’s body was reportedly found at his motel by one of his cyclin g teammates. The cause of his death was not known as WENN went to press.
Schmieder began his career in theatre before finding fame as a TV detec tive in shows including Tatort, Soko Koeln, Alarm for Cobra 11 and Doppel te Einsatz.
He is survived by his wife and two children, according to Variety.com.

KENNEDY, JR.’S WIFE HAS LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR DRIVING ARREST

ROBERT F. KENNEDY, JR.’s estranged wife has been banned from the road for 90 days following her arrest for driving while intoxicated (DWI) in May (10).
Mary Richardson Kennedy was taken into custody on 15 May (10) after pol ice allegedly witnessed her drive her car onto a sidewalk outside a schoo l in Bedford, New York.
She pleaded not guilty to the DWI accusation and was ordered to return to court this month (Jul10).
However, on Thursday (22Jul10) she struck a deal with prosecutors to av oid jail time and pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of driving with abi lity impaired.
Bedford Town Court Justice Kevin Quaranta suspended her driving license for 90 days and fined her $500 (=C2=A3330), while she was ordered to att end two alcohol education classes and submit quarterly reports from a psy chiatrist.
Her May (10) arrest came days after cops were called to the Kennedy fam ily home following two separate distress calls, although no further actio n was taken following the incident.
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the son of assassinated politician Robert F. Ke nnedy, filed for divorce from his wife of 16 years after the 911 incident s.

ZETA-JONES AND DOUGLAS VISIT SICK KIDS IN WALES

CATHERINE ZETA-JONES and her husband MICHAEL DOUGLAS visited sick kids at a children’s hospital in the actress’ native Wales on Friday (23Jul10) a s part of the couple’s ongoing charity campaign for better facilities.
The Hollywood actors opened the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardif f in 2006 and donated a large sum to the Noah’s Ark Appeal, which aims to provide better medical care for kids in the country.
Zeta-Jones, who is a patron of the charity, is hoping to help raise ano ther $10.5 million (=C2=A37 million) for the good cause to build an inten sive care unit at the site.
The actress spent 90 minutes touring the wards with her partner, spendi ng time with the young patients and their families, and telling reporters , "It really is an honour for me to come back when it’s running." (LR/WNW

SAW MOVIE RE-EDITED SIX TIMES

The upcoming final installment in the SAW horror movie franchise had to b e re-edited six times to remove gory scenes before producers gained an ac ceptable age rating for the film.
Saw 3D, the seventh in the longrunning series starring Tobin Bell, is d ue for release later this year (10) but studio bosses were unhappy when t he bloody new picture was slapped with a restrictive adults-only R rating by executives at the Motion Picture Association of America.
Producers had to omit several violent sequences and the film was re-edi ted and resubmitted six times before they were finally granted a NC-17 ra ting, which means children under the age of 17 can see the movie if they are accompanied by an adult.
Producer Oren Koules tells USA Today, "I’m surprised we got it. It’s mo re violent than any of them. But it’s in 3D, it answers all the questions , it comes full circle. We have the goods on this one." He also confirmed the franchise will definitely end after the seventh f ilm, adding, "It’s time to stop. We have told the story we wanted to tell , and this is going to be a great farewell." Saw 3D will be released on 29 October (10) to coincide with Halloween ( 31Oct10).

PITT AND JOLIE BUY A HOME IN ITALY

BRAD PITT and ANGELINA JOLIE have expanded their property empire by inves ting in a multi-million dollar mansion in Italy.
The Hollywood couple has reportedly added to their property portfolio b y paying $40 million (=C2=A326.7 million) for a luxury villa in the hills of Valpolicella, Italy.
The expansive estate is surrounded by a park and includes two swimming pools with waterfalls and jacuzzi tubs, a cinema room and a well-equipped gym.
Property firm owner, Alexander Proto, tells Sky Italy magazine, "They w anted something more exclusive and in record time to spend the summer vac ation in Italy." The couple and their six children spent several months living in Italy this year (10) while Jolie filmed scenes for her new movie The Tourist in Venice. They also own homes in New Orleans, Louisiana and Los Angeles. (

BOREANAZ’S REP BRANDS SEX LAWSUIT ‘ABSURD’

A representative for DAVID BOREANAZ has hit back at allegations the actor sexually harassed an extra on his hit TV show BONES - calling the lurid story "totally fabricated and absurd".
Actress Kristina Hagan has filed suit against the former Buffy The Vamp ire Slayer star alleging he made a series of unwanted sexual advances tow ards her last year (09) while they worked on the programme together.
She claims Boreanaz’s alleged bad behaviour included sending "inappropr iate text messages", masturbating in front of her and attempting to "kiss her and touch her breasts".
Hagan claims she suffered "emotional and psychological distress" as wel l as lost earnings as a result of the alleged incidents involving the act or.
But Boreanaz’s representative is adamant Hagan’s lawsuit is completely without merit.
A statement released to Access Hollywood reads, "The allegations concer ning any alleged inappropriate conduct by David Boreanaz are totally fabr icated and absurd. There is no validity to this lawsuit." The actor is currently undergoing counselling sessions with his wife Ja ime Bergman in a bid to save their marriage after he recently confessed t o an affair.

ELTON JOHN WORKING ON ANIMAL FARM MUSICAL

SIR ELTON JOHN is working on bringing GEORGE ORWELL’s classic novella ANI MAL FARM to the West End stage in a new musical.
The Rocket Man has teamed up with the writer behind his previous stage hit Billy Elliot to put together a new adaptation of the famous book, abo ut creatures who seize control of a farm from their human masters.
Lee Hall, who won an Oscar nomination for his work on the Billy Elliot movie, reveals the musical has been in the planning stage for two years, but they nearly abandoned the project after experiencing problems obtaini ng the rights to the story.
He tells Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, "I’m deep into it, writing son gs for pigs and other four-legged friends. It’s taken about two years. We almost gave up, but there was always that one last licence to go after." And Hall admits there’s still plenty of work to do before the productio n hits the London stage. He adds, "Having worked with him (John) on Billy Elliot, I know that Elton likes to have the lyrics done and in front of him so I’ll work on a batch before I give him anything to look at.
"I would think it’s going to take around two years before it’s all read y to go."

SATURDAYS STAR HITS OUT AT WEIGHT JIBES

THE SATURDAYS star ROCHELLE WISEMAN has furiously hit back at critics who have labelled her "fat" - insisting she is "sick" of hearing jibes about her weight.
The curvy singer is convinced she has been singled out for nasty commen ts because she is not as skinny as her bandmates, but she’s adamant she’s happy with her size and is refusing to let the negative comments get her down.
In a series of angry posts on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "I’m re ally getting annoyed reading that people are calling me fat! I’m a size ( U.K) 10 not 100! I’m human and curvy get over it! It’s boring! "I’m just starting to get sick of it! No wonder people get a complex! I think it’s a disgrace! MACDONALD’S MAN MOVES AWAY

Scottish singer AMY MACDONALD is enduring the anguish of long-distance lo ve - her soccer player boyfriend has been forced to move out of their sha red home and relocate to England for his career.
The This Is The Life hitmaker is currently engaged to sports star Stevi e Lovell, who was playing for Scottish side Partick Thistle until last ye ar (09).
Last month (Jun10) he signed a contract with A.F.C. Bournemouth, who ar e based on the south coast of England - a trip of almost almost 400 miles (644 kilometres).
The move means singer/songwriter MacDonald is struggling to spend time with her man, even when she is not on tour.
She tells Scotland’s Daily Record, "It’s a bit of a nightmare at the mo ment but once he finishes pre-season training and my tour ends, we’ll be able to see each other for a few days… It’s not an issue. We knew this would happen. When you have this weird life you get used to it and know w hat to expect."

CHARITY SINGLE HONOURS CABLE

Tragic STEREOPHONICS drummer STUART CABLE is raising money from beyond th e grave - his former bandmates are set to release a charity single in his honour.
The rocker was found dead at his home in Llwydcoed, Wales on 7 June (10 ). An investigation into the cause of his death is still ongoing.
Cable was sacked from Stereophonics in 2003 after a bust-up with his ba ndmates, and went on to play drums with several other bands including Kil ling for Company - and they are set to pay tribute by releasing a new son g.
The band recorded Former Mining Town before Cable’s death, and it will go on sale this weekend (24-25Jul10) - with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust and a children’s hospice in Cardiff, Wales.
In a statement, the band says, "To think Stu won’t be on stage with us anymore is hard, but we hope to draw some positives from this difficult t ime." Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones adds, "Stuart was our lifelong frien d and brother. We’d like everyone to join us in supporting Killing for Co mpany’s charity single."

BECK, SNOW PATROL AND SMITH HONOUR MARTYN

Stars including BECK, SNOW PATROL and THE CURE’s ROBERT SMITH have teamed up to record a tribute album in honour of late singer-songwriter JOHN MA RTYN.
The star, who died in January 2009 at the age of 60, released 20 studio records during his lengthy 40-year music career and a variety of his bes t-loved songs will be revived on the new album by the famous contributors ..
Beck will tackle Stormbringer, while Snow Patrol take on May You Never and Smith sings Small Hours.
Other participants in the currently untitled project include Beth Orton , David Gray and Paolo Nutini.

GORILLAZ AXE GIGS FOR WORLD TOUR

GORILLAZ have axed three planned concerts in England and Italy - so they can embark on their first world tour.
The cartoon band, fronted by Blur singer Damon Albarn, will hit the roa d to play 10 shows in Europe and 20 dates in the U.S. before travelling t o Australia and Asia for a further seven gigs.
But the complicated schedule has played havoc with their existing tour plans - the Clint Eastwood hitmakers have cancelled concerts in Newcastle , England, Glasgow in Scotland, and Milan, Italy.
The move means they can now play shows in Brighton, England, and Antwer p, Belgium instead.
The tour is due to begin with a one-off show in Syria on Sunday (25Jul1 0).

JONAS BACK ON STAGE AFTER CANCELLED SHOW

NICK JONAS sang through a sore throat when he took to the West End stage on Wednesday night (21Jul10) just hours after cancelling his matinee perf ormance of LES MISERABLES due to illness.
The Jonas Brothers star is currently performing in the iconic musical i n London, but he left fans disappointed on Wednesday when he called in si ck for his afternoon show after waking up with a sore throat.
He broke the news in a post on his Twitter.com page: "Hey everyone… I woke up this morning with a sore throat, and no voice. I will not be abl e to perform in the matinee of Les Mis today. For those of you who have t ravelled from really far away to see me in the show I am truly sorry. Tha nk you for understanding everyone." But the singer soon shrugged off his illness and was back on stage late r that day for the evening performance, explaining he was "feeling so muc h better". And Jonas even found the energy to join his castmates for a po st-show pizza dinner.
He added on Twitter, "What a great night. Thanks Pizza Express for the good times. Goodnight everyone. Love you all."

MCKNIGHT IS NOT THE FATHER IN PATERNITY CASE

A DNA test has proved soul star BRIAN MCKNIGHT is not the father of a tee nage boy at the centre of a legal battle over child support.
A woman named Miriam Lee took the singer to court in Orange County, Flo rida last year (09) claiming her 14-year-old son was the product of a bri ef fling with the star.
McKnight was ordered to hand over more than $340,000 (=C2=A3226,600) in paternity payments after he failed to file court papers addressing Lee’s lawsuit and a judge made a default ruling in her favour.
The Back at One hitmaker subsequently took a DNA test in a bid to clear up the case and now the results have shown he is not the boy’s dad.

JARREAU IN ‘CRITICAL CONDITION’ IN FRANCE

Veteran jazz legend AL JARREAU is fighting for his life in a French hospi tal after falling sick with breathing difficulties.
The 70-year-old singer was admitted to a medical facility in the town o f Gap in the south east of the country late on Thursday (22Jul10) sufferi ng from respiratory problems, and was said to be in a "critical" conditio n as WENN went to press.
The seven-times Grammy-winner, who was in France to perform at a music festival, is being treated in the intensive care unit and a statement fro m the hospital reveals doctors are "concerned" about the star.
The statement, obtained by AFP, reads, "Doctors are concerned about his condition. He is being given appropriate treatment and they hope to see an improvement in the coming hours."

WALSH IN PHONE-HACKING SCANDAL

Police in Ireland have launched an investigation over allegations TV musi c mogul LOUIS WALSH was targeted by a hacker who tapped into his private cell phone.
The X Factor judge and Boyzone manager was recently contacted by an exe cutive at his telephone network service provider, who informed him an emp loyee of Vodafone had allegedly been caught snooping through his personal voicemail and text messages.
Police have now launched an investigation into the claims and Walsh is considering taking legal action against the firm.
He says, "I don’t know how much personal information he managed to gath er or how long it was going on. I knew nothing about it at all until the boss of the company contacted me. I was told an employee had hacked my ph one.
"The last I heard the matter was with Gardai (Irish police force) and t here would be a court case.
"What measures are in place to stop this happening? It makes me very wa ry of exchanging confidential information by phone and yet it’s hard to a void given the nature of this business." A statement from Vodafone reads, "Internal security processes recently discovered that a retail employee of Vodafone was involved in an incident of alleged misuse of customer information. (We) immediately notified the Garda and contacted the customer to advise on appropriate security measu res."

KUTCHER’S AUSSIE RACE DAY AXED

ASHTON KUTCHER was forced to cancel plans to test out a supercar on an Au stralian race course this week (beg19Jul10) after heavy rain dampened his day out.
The Hollywood actor is currently touring Down Under to promote his late st film Killers, and his management looked into signing the star up for a track day to keep him amused during his visit.
But Kutcher was left disappointed when managers of the Calder Park Race way in Melbourne cancelled his outing on Thursday morning (23Jul10) after a track inspection found heavy rain had left dangerous amounts of water on the speedway.
Track manager Ian Macarthur tells Theage.com, "He was due to come out h ere this afternoon but all the rain has caused us to pull the pin.
"His management staff made some tentative enquiries as to whether they could get out on the track. I think he just wanted to do some trackwork. But there’s just too much water on it. They would have been aqua-planing.
"

LONDON’S WIFE RECOVERING FROM BRAIN HAEMORRHAGE

JEREMY LONDON’s wife is recovering after suffering a brain haemorrhage la st week (ends18Jul10).
The Party of Five star’s partner Melissa Cunningham was admitted to hos pital shortly after she checked into a rehab centre in California.
Cunningham fell sick at the Pasadena Recovery Center - the same clinic which will house her husband when he joins reality TV show Celebrity Reha b - and was transferred to a nearby hospital where doctors diagnosed her with a brain haemorrhage.
She was treated and released later that week and is now recovering at h ome with her husband by her side.
London’s representative, Dominic Friesen, tells People.com, "Thankfully she was under the supervision of health professionals and was immediatel y transported to a nearby hospital where she received the medical attenti on she required. Jeremy remains her strongest supporter as she pursues so briety under the care of the Center."
