OSBOURNE SLAMS ‘DISGUSTING’ RECORD LABELS

OZZY OSBOURNE is "disgusted" by the way new bands are treated by their re cord labels - accusing music executives of forcing wannabe stars to give up their financial rights in exchange for fame.
The former Black Sabbath star is convinced aspiring artists are treated harshly by their music industry bosses these days, and he blames the ris e of internet downloads and the fall of CD releases for making labels tak e more money from their stars.
He tells Thequietus.com, "Nowadays? F**king hell! The other day, I was informed that new bands who’ve just signed with their record companies ha ve to give away part of their publishing (rights), part of their gig mone y, part of their concessions, whatever=E2=80=A6 What the f**k is going on ? I wouldn’t like to be one of the bands of today. It’s f**king disgustin g the way they treat the bands…
"It’s (the music industry has) changed so much. Someone can be the bigg est thing in the world, and then the next month you go ‘What happened to them?’ Record sales are no more - they aren’t selling records that much a ny more, because of this downloading thing." And Osbourne is urging upcoming musicians to do some research before th ey sign away their rights.
He adds, "When we were kids and we wanted to be successful, we didn’t k now what the f**k we were signing. We didn’t know anything about publishi ng companies or whatever. Now you can go onto your computer and you can f **king find out what to go for. You can open your laptop and find out wha t a manager’s average percentage is."

GRIFFITH PITCHING U.S. HEALTH CARE LAW

Veteran American actor ANDY GRIFFITH has returned to the small screen - h e’s pitching U.S. president BARACK OBAMA’s health care law to seniors in a new TV advert.
The former The Andy Griffith Show star appears in the new ad, insisting "good things are coming" for Medicare recipients, a social insurance pro gramme administered by the American government to provide health insuranc e coverage for people over 65.
Griffith, 84, touts free preventive check-ups and lower-cost prescripti ons for Medicare recipients as just some of the benefits of Obama’s healt h care overhaul, which seeks to expand coverage for the uninsured.
The promo is part of a Medicare campaign to educate senior citizens abo ut the new benefits which will be made available next year (11). (JMA/WNW

CLARKSON IS HAPPILY UNMARRIED

Veteran actress PATRICIA CLARKSON has given up hope of finding a husband at the age of 50, insisting she’s "not sad" she never wed.
The Pieces of April star, who reached the milestone in December (09), h as no fear about the stigma of being a spinster because she’s found love before.
She says, "I’ve never been married so I know marriage is a whole differ ent thing. I know it’s much more complicated and there are many more thin gs involved, but yes I have been in love." Clarkson insists marriage just isn’t for her - and she’s content growin g old as a singleton: "I’m just happy in my life and where I am… I have confidence in the fact I never married and I’m not sad about it." EFRON’S SLIMY LATE NIGHT SNACK

ZAC EFRON made U.S. TV audiences squirm on Thursday night (29Jul10) - by happily munching on a platter of scorpions, crickets and superworms.
The 17 Again star was being interviewed on late night programme Lopez T onight when he admitted he had a reputation for eating exotic foods his f riends won’t touch - including delicacies like live larvae.
He explained, "It’s not that I search for weird things to eat, I’m not that guy. But if there is something strange and everybody’s afraid to eat it, I’m usually the guy that’ll go for it. I’m not afraid to try new thi ngs." And comedian George Lopez publicly challenged the star to prove he has a stomach of steel - by surprising him with plates of scorpion toast, Tai wanese crickets and a superworm cocktail.
But Efron swallowed his slimy snacks like a champ. Taking a bite of a t oasted scorpion, he said: "This is not a big deal. In fact, I’m just gonn a pop this guy right off."

LOHAN HEADING TO REHAB BY THE BEACH?

LINDSAY LOHAN will check into a rehabilitation centre by a sun-kissed Cal ifornia beach once she completes her jail sentence for probation violatio n, according to an online report.
The Mean Girls star is currently serving part of a 90-day term at the C entury Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California after breaking her parole terms relating to a 2007 DUI arrest.
She is expected to walk free from her jail cell as early as Sunday (01A ug10) but must report to rehab within 24 hours of her release, as ordered by the judge, to seek treatment for an alleged prescription drug addicti on.
The location of Lohan’s rehab centre had not been disclosed until now - and TMZ.com reports the troubled star will be able to battle her persona l demons while sunning herself in Newport Beach, at a facility which spec ialises in alcohol and opiate detox.
Lohan must complete 90 days in rehab as part of her sentence. (MT/WNWCZ

DICAPRIO ATTACK SUSPECT EXTRADITED TO U.S. TO FACE CHARGES

A woman accused of slashing LEONARDO DiCAPRIO’s face with a glass at a pa rty in 2005 has been extradited from Canada to the U.S. to face a charge of assault stemming from the alleged incident.
Aretha Wilson is said to have hit the Inception star during a Hollywood Hills house party thrown by Paris Hilton’s ex, film producer Rick Saloma n, reportedly leaving the actor requiring 17 stitches to close up a large cut from his ear to his face.
She was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but fle d America before she could face prosecution and went on the run in Canada ..
Canadian authorities recently took the 40-year-old suspect into custody and she was sent back to Los Angeles on Thursday (29Jul10) to stand tria l over the allegations, according to TMZ.com.

ARCADE FIRE ALBUM INSPIRED BY LOVE LETTERS

ARCADE FIRE star WIN BUTLER has based the band’s new music on a series of love letters he wrote to his childhood sweetheart in high school.
The Canadian rockers are set to release their fourth record, The Suburb s, next week (beg02Aug10) and Butler has revealed he took inspiration fro m a teenage love affair to write some of the lyrics.
And Butler admits new track We Used To Wait is solely based on his post al romance.
He tells Britain’s NME magazine, "In high school I had a letter-writing romance with a girl. I was trying to remember that time… waiting an en tire summer, pretty much half a year, the anxiousness of waiting for lett ers to arrive.
"All day every day there’s almost this cloud of feeling hanging over ev erything. We’d (his family) be in Maine, I’d walk down to the post office and come back=E2=80=A6 the whole day was consumed by that feeling." (LR/

OSBOURNE STILL ANGRY AT DICKINSON=20

OZZY OSBOURNE has aimed a foul-mouthed rant at IRON MAIDEN frontman BRUCE DICKINSON - insisting he still hasn’t forgiven the singer for their ugly 2005 feud.
The rock stars fell out five years ago while Iron Maiden were performin g with Osbourne’s Ozzfest tour.
Dickinson was accused of criticising the Black Sabbath star during the shows and Osbourne’s wife Sharon was so angry, she allegedly arranged to have eggs thrown at the singer while he was on stage.
And Osbourne admits he still hasn’t forgiven Dickinson - calling his be haviour "childish" and "irresponsible".
He tells The Quietus, "Every night he was going on stage sl**ging me of f. And that wasn’t fair. If he didn’t like the f**king tour, he should ha ve said, ‘I’m jumping (off) the f**king tour…’ I’d never said a f**king bad thing to him…
"Sharon got p**sed off… It was nothing to do with me. I’ll back my wi fe up to the hilt, but I didn’t know what was going down (with the allege d egg-throwing). But you know what? (Iron Maiden were getting) a few f**k ing quid (pounds) out of that Ozzfest. If you’ve got something to talk to me about, be a man. MCCARTNEY TURNED AWAY AT THE WHITE HOUSE

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY nearly missed out on playing a gig for U.S. President BARACK OBAMA last month (Jun10) after he was turned away by security guar ds at the White House.
The Beatles legend arrived at the iconic building in Washington, D.C. a head of his scheduled performance for the president, but the rocker and h is band were not allowed through the strict security checks.
Guards on the gate eventually sent McCartney to a different entrance, b ut the delay left the musician fearing he would miss the gig.
He tells the Associated Press, "Getting through the security of the Whi te House (was memorable). For the rehearsal, we got through fine. But for the actual gig, we were sort of not let in.
"At the gate we said, ‘We’re the entertainment.’ He (the security guard ) said, ‘No, you’ll have to walk around the other block.’ It was heavy tr affic, so we’re going, ‘Oh geesh. Wouldn’t you just know it’." (LR/WNWA/C

GELDOF DISMISSES ROTH ENGAGEMENT RUMOURS

BOB GELDOF’s daughter PEACHES has no plans to marry her boyfriend ELI ROT H, insisting rumours of an impending wedding are "made up lies".
British tabloid reports suggested the 21-year-old is planning to exchan ge vows with the Inglourious Basterds star in the New Year (11) - less th an a year after they began dating.
The pair was said to be planning a traditional Jewish ceremony on a New York rooftop and Roth’s pal Quentin Tarantino was even named as one of t he invited guests.
But the socialite has taken to her Twitter.com page to deny the gossip, writing: "Just so everyone knows, Eli and I are not engaged or getting m arried. The tabloid stories stating this are all, as usual, made up lies.
" Geldof was previously married for seven months to U.S. rocker Max Drumm ey but their union ended in divorce last year (09).

GALLAGHER WILL ONLY REFORM OASIS WHEN HE’S BROKE

LIAM GALLAGHER would consider reforming OASIS in the future - but only if he runs out of money.
The British rock group split last year (09) after an argument between G allagher and his guitarist brother Noel tore the band apart.
The singer is currently preparing to make a comeback with his new music project Beady Eye, while Noel is working on a solo career.
And Gallagher admits he will only make amends with his sibling and reun ite the group if he finds himself broke.
He tells Sky News, "The only reason why Oasis will come back is when we ‘re f**king skint (broke). I’m far from skint as you can tell - and I won ‘t be skint for a long, long f**king time. Believe me, it ain’t gonna be happening."

COLE TAKES VACATION ON MALARIA RECOVERY

British singer CHERYL COLE has embarked on a sun-soaked vacation in Los A ngeles to help speed up her recovery from a bout of malaria.
The Girls Aloud star was treated in an intensive care unit earlier this month (Jul10) after she fell sick with the deadly tropical disease, whic h she is believed to have picked up on a trip to Tanzania.
Cole cancelled all of her work commitments for the foreseeable future, including her judging role on Simon Cowell’s TV talent show The X Factor, so she can recover from the illness and has been resting at her home in Surrey, England for the last two weeks.
But the star has now shown her health is stabilising, by jetting off to L.A. for a break with her dancer pal Derek Hough to aid her recuperation ..
The news comes shortly after Cole was reported to have paid tribute to all the doctors and nurses who helped her though her illness, telling sta ff at London’s University College hospital, "I want to say how grateful I am for everything you guys have done. I wouldn=E2=80=99t be here now, if it wasn=E2=80=99t for you.=E2=80=9D

CORGAN ‘BLOWN AWAY’ BY BENEFIT CONCERT SUPPORT

SMASHING PUMPKINS frontman BILLY CORGAN was "blown away" by the support o f fans in his native Chicago, Illinois who helped raise more than $800,00 0 (=C2=A3533,333) for injured MADINA LAKE rocker MATTHEW LEONE.
The bass player was attacked and knocked unconscious after he attempted to break up a violent domestic dispute between two strangers in the city at the beginning of the month (Jul10).
He suffered a broken jaw and nose and a fractured skull, and underwent a life-saving operation to remove part of his skull to reduce swelling on his brain.
Fellow Chicago rockers Smashing Pumpkins offered to play a benefit conc ert to raise money for Leone’s medical care, and the Tuesday night (27Jul 10) show was an all-round success.
The gig at the Metro venue raised more money than the band had expected , and lead singer Corgan admits he was overwhelmed by the community’s sup port.
He tells the Chicago Tribune, "I was inspired by Matthew’s courageous d efense of a woman he didn’t even know. What pushed me to do the benefit f or his medical fund was how much he is loved by close friends of mine who know him well. I spoke to his family at the benefit and they all said th at it didn’t surprise them at all that he did what he did to stop an inju stice.
"I was blown away by the Chicago community coming together to put this benefit on so quickly. It put an emotional charge into our show that was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I was absolutely honoured to be st anding on the Metro stage, my musical home, showing our support for one o f our own. It was a great night in the long, storied history of Chicago. And an epic show."

RODRIGUEZ BORED OF MOVIE REMAKES

Actress MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ is urging Hollywood bosses to come up with som e new ideas - because she’s bored of seeing remakes and 1980s revivals hi t cinemas.
Movie theatres have been bulging with big budget reboots in recent year s, with new versions of The A-Team and The Karate Kid among 2010’s most h igh profile offerings.
But the Avatar actress is adamant the current trend of re-imagining cla ssic films and bringing 30-year-old ideas back to the big screen has grow n tiresome.
She tells Showbizspy.com, "I think the industry needs to wake up and st op doing remakes because I’m kind of falling asleep. They need to start d oing movies about something other than comic books and stuff that come ou t in the Eighties. We’ve exploited that already.
"Let’s do something new. It’s sleepy time in Hollywood right now and we need to find something else."

ACTRESS FORREST DIES

Actress and casting director IRENE CAGEN FORREST has died, aged 65.
Forrest passed away in Providence, Rhode Island on 25 July (10) after a year-long battle with a brain tumour.
She began a successful casting career in the 1980s, and made her mark o n U.S. television series Crash and feature length films including Light a nd the Sufferer, for which she was also executive producer.
As an actress, she co-starred in George Lucas’ 1971 sci-fi film THX1138 and made appearances in hit series L.A. Law.
She also appeared in films including Communion, Baby Fever and Sitting Ducks, for which she earned a National Association of Film Critics Award nomination for best supporting actress.
She later taught acting in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon.
Forrest is survived by her brother, Andrew Cagen, two nieces and a neph ew.
