MONJACK’S MOTHER DISMISSES ‘MISSING MONEY’ CLAIMS

SIMON MONJACK’s mother has dismissed claims the late screenwriter emptied bank accounts belonging to his wife BRITTANY MURPHY following her tragic death last year (Dec09).
The Brit died in May (10) just five months after his Hollywood actress wife passed away..
Murphy’s former business manager, Jeffrey Morgenroth, has waded into th e tragedy by alleging Monjack drained his late wife’s estate before his o wn death, claiming "huge amounts of money" had gone missing.
He told People.com, "There were huge amounts of money in (Murphy’s) pen sion plan and bank account, and all of that’s gone. I would see it on the statements. There was money being withdrawn by Simon, hundreds of thousa nds." But Monjack’s mother Linda is adamant her son did not squander his late spouse’s cash.
She says, "If there is money missing I have no idea where it is. He did n’t get much, maybe a few hundred dollars, and he paid off his debts with it. He was spending his time crying his eyes out most of the time. He wa s in a terrible state."

SCISSOR SISTERS RECRUIT KYLIE FOR AUSSIE SHOW

The SCISSOR SISTERS made their mark on Melbourne, Australia during a show on Monday (26Jul10) - by taking the stage with the city’s most famous da ughter, KYLIE MINOGUE.
The band played a gig at Melbourne’s Festival Hall and they enlisted th e help of the superstar singer to win over her hometown crowd.
Minogue joined the pop stars for a rendition of Any Which Way and retur ned for the encore to play an acoustic version of her latest single, All the Lovers.

GELDOF LANDS TEEN TALK SHOW

BOB GELDOF’s daughter PEACHES has landed a new TV role - she’s set to pre sent her own talk show for teens, according to U.K. reports.
The Irish rocker’s 21-year-old daughter is preparing to film a pilot ep isode of the series, which will see her chat to troubled youngsters and h elp solve their problems.
TV bosses are hoping her screen tests will prove popular with audiences in the U.K.
A source tells Britain’s The Sun, "We are going to test out Peaches to see how she is with guests and how the audience takes to her.
"Although the pilot won’t be broadcast, if it goes well it will lead to a series being commissioned.

DANNII MINOGUE is terrified about her impending pop comeback, insisting s he lacks the "confidence" to step back into the spotlight.
Kylie Minogue’s younger sister is gearing up to release new tracks foll owing a seven-year hiatus from recording and she has been wracked with fe ars over what critics will say about her new material.
The Australian singer has spent the last three years mentoring wannabe pop stars on Simon Cowell’s U.K. TV talent show The X Factor and she admi ts she could do with her own coach ahead of her comeback.
Minogue says, "I’ve got to get some confidence with it and I don’t have that now.
"I think I’ve copped quite a bit of flak (criticism) over the years for the music: ‘It’s not as good as your sister’s music’ or ‘It’s not charte d this’ or ‘It should have done that’, but I’ve enjoyed it and I’ve learn ed a lot.

MCCOY CRIES FOR PERRY IN HAUNTING SONG

GYM CLASS HEROES star TRAVIS MCCOY broke down in tears over his split fro m KATY PERRY while recording a song about his heartbreak.
The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker ended her relationship with McCoy in April last year (09) before embarking on a whirlwind romance with funnyman Rus sell Brand, who she is now engaged to marry.
McCoy admits he was so upset over their break-up, he wept real tears in the studio while recording a track, Don’t Pretend, for his ex-girlfriend ..
He says, "That song is the most introspective and personal on the album .. In a sense, I felt I’d had my heart ripped out. I’m crying throughout t he song.
"The album is about coming out the other side of something really painf ul… There was a lot of stuff that did not make the album because it was too dark." And McCoy insists he has even more melancholy music to come.
He adds, "Don’t Pretend is the final song on the album as I didn’t want to start the album on a sad song. It’s also the perfect set-up for my ne xt solo album. I’ve saved the really sad stuff for that."

KATHERINE JACKSON STILL STRUGGLES TO ‘COPE’

MICHAEL JACKSON’s mum KATHERINE is still heartbroken over the superstar’s death, insisting she undergoes a daily struggle to "cope" with her grief ..
The Thriller icon passed away in June last year (09) after suffering a cardiac arrest, and the Jackson family matriarch was subsequently named g uardian of the singer’s children, Prince, 13, Paris, 12, and eight-year-o ld Blanket.
In a new interview, the 80 year old is visibly upset as she admits she has been an emotional wreck looking after her son’s estate and kids in th e year since his passing.
She says, "I haven’t been doing so well but with Prince, family, loved ones and with prayer, I cope. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about my son." The footage is set to be included in an upcoming documentary about the star’s life, reports TMZ.com.

CORGAN’S GUITAR BREAKS ON STAGE

SMASHING PUMPKINS frontman BILLY CORGAN suffered an embarrassing technica l problem onstage in New York on Monday night (26Jul10) - his guitar brok e just two songs into the band’s set.
The group played at the city’s Terminal 5 venue as part of Spin magazin e’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
But the performance came to an abrupt halt during a rendition of Ava Ad ore when Corgan’s instrument malfunctioned.
The rocker wandered off stage in search of help, but when no one came t o his assistance he put down his guitar and led the audience by clapping along to the tune.
A guitar technician soon ran onto the stage to fix the instrument and t he show was able to proceed, according to the New York Daily News.
The day after the show (27Jul10), the band played a benefit concert to raise money for Madina Lake rocker Matthew Leone’s medical care. The musi cian was attacked and knocked unconscious after he attempted to break up a violent domestic dispute between two strangers at the beginning of the month (Jul10).

FRANKLIN TAKES TO THE STAGE WITH RICE

ARETHA FRANKLIN put aside her political views to perform with U.S. Republ ican politician CONDOLEEZZA RICE for a charity concert on Tuesday (27Jul1 0).
The soul star, a staunch Democrat who sang at President Barack Obama’s inauguration, appeared on stage for a three-hour concert with classically trained pianist Rice - a Republican who served as an aide to President G eorge W. Bush.
The Respect hitmaker belted out her hits and a number of classical aria s, while the former U.S. secretary of state played piano accompaniment al ongside an orchestra at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvan ia.

SIR ELTON JOHN has waded into the debate over a new immigration law in Ar izona, condemning artists who boycott the state over the controversy.
Acts including Rage Against the Machine, Kanye West and Maroon 5 are al l refusing to perform in the state until officials reverse the legislatio n, which gives Arizona police the power to arrest anyone suspected of bei ng an illegal immigrant.
But John has refused to join the protest - and he reportedly slammed th e campaigners during a concert at the Tucson Arena in Arizona on Thursday (22Jul10).
According to the Arizona Daily Star, John told the crowd of 8,800: "We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona. I have read that some of t he artists won’t come here. They are f**kwits! LOHAN’S DAD WANTS STARS TO HELP HIS DAUGHTER

LINDSAY LOHAN’s father has reached out to stars including ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. and MARK WAHLBERG asking them to step in and help his troubled daught er.
The Mean Girls actress is currently behind bars at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, where she is serving part of a 90-day jail sentence for violating her probation relating to a 2007 DUI arrest.
Lohan is expected to be released next week (beg02Aug10) and she will go straight to court-ordered rehab.
The actress’ father Michael fears prison will have a negative effect on his daughter, who he claims is suffering from a prescription drug addict ion, and he’s asking both Downey, Jr and Wahlberg, who have both spent ti me behind bars, to help.
He tells Tennessee radio station 107.5 The River, "My people are reachi ng out to Robert Downey, Jr. and to Mark Wahlberg. I know both of them, a nd Mark is a tremendous human being. Hopefully, they’ll see her before sh e gets out and she’ll get in this rehab and get off these prescription me ds, and she’ll get her life back." The Iron Man star was jailed on numerous occasions as he battled a ragi ng drug habit between 1996 and 2001. He also spent time in court-ordered rehab before finally kicking his addictions and reviving his career, whil e Wahlberg battled drug addiction as a teenager and spent 45 days in pris on after he was convicted of assault.

CROWE QUIT SMOKING FOR SON

RUSSELL CROWE quit smoking after his young son caught him stubbing out a sneaky cigarette.
The Hollywood actor admits he spent years puffing his way through more than two packs a day, but was always careful to hide his habit from his c hildren, Charlie, six, and Tennyson, four.
Crowe reveals he recently quit his nicotine addiction after Charlie cau ght his father in the act.
He says, "Do the maths - I have been smoking for 36 years, I would cont inuously lie to myself about how much I smoked. (I was) smoking 40 on an easy day, but on a day when I would be up at 4am and still up at midnight , then it was 60-plus and it just got to the point where my body was tell ing me I had to stop.
"The reality break was that my kids never saw me smoke and Charlie is a little older at six and is in that phase where he is sneaking up on me a ll the time.
"I was in my office… and I thought I heard my office door open and I looked around and couldn’t see anything, so I had my cigarette.
"Later on I leant over to put my cigarette out and he was lying between the couch and the table and he very definitely saw me having a smoke. An d that was my very last one."

APPLEGATE: ‘PREGNANCY HAS MADE ME AN INSANE MONSTER’

CHRISTINA APPLEGATE is suffering during her first pregnancy - the actress has endured awful morning sickness and is experiencing mood swings which turn her into an "insane monster".
The Samantha Who? star revealed earlier this month (Jul10) she is expec ting a baby with her fiance, Dutch musician Martyn Lenoble.

AUTHENTICITY OF ADAMS’ ‘LOST WORKS’ IN DOUBT

A representative for ANSEL ADAMS has branded a stash of discarded glass n egatives purportedly taken by the legendary photographer an "unfortunate fraud" after they were valued at $200 million (=C2=A3133 million).
Painter Rick Norsigian claims to have paid just $45 (=C2=A330) for the negatives at a garage sale in California back in 2000.
A team of experts spent six months examining the items and reportedly c oncluded the 65 negatives were taken by the famed snapper, who died in 19 84.
Norsigian has since spoken of his shock, telling reporters, "When I hea rd that $200 million, I got a little weak." But bosses at the Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust are calling into question the haul’s authenticity - and are even considering legal action against Norsigian for using Adams’ name for commercial use.
Bill Turnage, managing director of Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust, says, "It’s an unfortunate fraud. It’s very distressing." The landscape photographer’s relatives aren’t convinced either.
Matthew Adams, the photographer’s grandson, said: "There is no real har d evidence. I’m sceptical."

TUCKER’S TAX TROUBLES MOUNT

CHRIS TUCKER’s financial woes have spiralled out of control - the actor h as been hit with a demand for more than $11 million (=C2=A37.3 million) i n allegedly unpaid taxes.
Officials at the Internal Revenue Service filed documents with the Los Angeles County Recorder’s Office on Tuesday (27Jul10), citing Tucker’s fe deral tax debts for the years 2001, 2002 and 2004 through 2006.
The debts add up to a whopping $11,571,909 (=C2=A37,714,606), according to legal paperwork obtained by TMZ.com.
It’s not the Rush Hour star’s first taxing dilemma - he had a $3.5 mill ion (=C2=A32.3 million) lien filed against him by California state tax bo sses last year (09).

HUGHES HONOURED AT MICHIGAN FESTIVAL

Late moviemaker JOHN HUGHES was honoured for his contribution to cinema a t a film festival in his native Michigan on Tuesday (27Jul10).
The Breakfast Club director, who was born in the state’s capital of Lan sing, received the Michigan Filmmaker Award on the opening night of the T raverse City Film Festival, reports the Associated Press.
Past recipients include actress Christine Lahti and Arachnophobia star Jeff Daniels.
Hughes’ widow, Nancy, and his sons, James and John III, accepted the de dication in his honour, and expressed their appreciation for "the opportu nity to acknowledge how Michigan… helped shape his humour and storytell ing." The 59 year old passed away last year (09) after suffering a heart atta ck.

EFRON’S CHEEKY NIGHT OUT=20

ZAC EFRON had a racy time during a recent trip to New York - a newspaper in the city has alleged he enjoyed a night out at a strip club.
The 22-year-old actor, who was in the Big Apple to promote his new movi e Charlie St. Cloud, is said to have spent Sunday evening (25Jul10) at th e Flashdancers Gentlemen’s Club on Broadway with his former High School M usical co-star Corbin Bleu.
New York Post gossip column Page Six reports the pair sat in a VIP area and left in the early hours of Monday morning (27Jul10).
A source tells the publication, "Zac came in Sunday night around midnig ht with Corbin and one other male friend, who paid for everything. They w ere seated in the VIP lounge behind the main stage. There was only a rail between them and the girls who were dancing… Zac and the boys had a gr eat time and left around 3am Monday morning." The newspaper reports that a spokesperson for Flashdancers confirmed Ef ron and Bleu visited the club on Sunday night, but reps for the actors we re unavailable for comment.
