BELGIAN PRODUCER WINS COURT BATTLE OVER 1977 SONG

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:48 pm

Music producer LOU DEPRIJCK has won a longrunning legal battle with bosse s at the AMC record label over the rights to his 2006 song CA PLANE POUR MOI.
Deprijck was accused of falsely marketing the release, a cover of Plast ic Bertrand’s punk track of the same name, as the "original voice" of the 1977 hit, which he also worked on.
A previous court ruling in 2006 had declared musician Plastic Bertrand was the "legal performer" of the song, and AMC executives took Deprijck t o court in a bid to block him from receiving royalties from the remake.
But a Belgian judge sided with Deprijck earlier this week (begs26Jul10) after a language expert studied the vocals from the 1977 and the 2006 tu nes to determine whether it was Bertrand or the producer’s voice used on the original.
The professional claimed it was the same voice on both songs, but insis ted Bertrand could not have performed it because the track’s singer had a distinct accent.
He told the court, "The way the phrases end on each record show that th e song could only have been sung by a Ch’ti - otherwise known as someone from the Picard region of France.
"It could therefore not have been Plastic Bertrand - who was born in Br ussels - and was surely Monsieur Deprijck." Deprijck was born in the French-speaking West Hainaut area of Belgium, but the place is sometimes referred to as Picard Walloonia because locals in the region speak with a Picard accent, the linguist explained.
Deprijck is "relieved" at the outcome of the court case, telling Le Par isien newspaper, "I hope I will finally get my rights."

GRAPHIC SLAUGHTER SCENE TURNS THE DRY LAND’S ASSISTANT DIRECTOR VEGETAR The assistant director on RYAN PIERS WILLIAMS’ new movie THE DRY LAND has quit eating meat and become a vegetarian after filming the bloody live s laughter of a cow for the project.
Williams wrote the screenplay, about a soldier - played by Ryan O’Nan - who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder after returning home fro m war, and the character takes on a job at a slaughter house owned by his wife’s father.
The filmmaker and his production assistants paid a visit to a real meat farm to research the graphic scene but the actual day of the shoot prove d too much for one member of his crew, and watching the cow get butchered as they filmed was enough to turn him off meat for life.
Williams tells WENN, "The cow was slaughtered and we shot it documentar y style. We went to this slaughter house before we started shooting and t hat cow was going to be slaughtered on that day and we documented it. It was very brutal to watch and to witness.
"The one thing that was important about this slaughter house is they on ly kill one cow at one time and it was very intimate and done in a clean and humane fashion, which is how I think animals should be treated if you ‘re going to kill them for food.
"I’m from Texas and I’ve been eating meat all my life so I have no inte ntion of stopping eating meat but I do respect animals and the way that t hey are slaughtered… My assistant director is from Texas and stopped ea ting meat after visiting the slaughter house and is still a vegetarian to this day." And Williams admits his director pal isn’t alone: "People have come up to me after seeing the film and told me they cut out meat from their diet .." But he hopes fans of The Dry Land will not just take the slaughter hous e scenes at face value - because it has a deeper meaning too.
He says, "What I hope the slaughter house represents is a metaphor for the war. We are so disconnected with how wars are fought, just like we ar en’t connected to the way animals are slaughtered for our food." America Ferrera, Williams’ actress fiancee, stars as the wife of the si ck soldier.
