GOLDTHWAIT GOES BACK TO SCHOOL FOR KINKS MOVIE MUSICAL

Former POLICE ACADEMY star BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT is turning THE KINKS’ SCHOOL BOYS IN DISGRACE album into a new movie.
The madcap star, who directed Robin Williams’ dark comedy Dad of the Ye ar, has written a script inspired by the British band’s 1976 album - whic h he lists among his favourites.
The Kinks’ Ray Davies will executive produce the film project.
No cast details have been released, but the stars will have to be able to sing - they’ll re-record the album songs for the soundtrack.
Goldthwait tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Schoolboys in Disgrace is a s tory that any kid who has felt that they are not being treated fairly can relate to, all set to some of the greatest rock songs you’ll ever hear."

STARR’S DRUM TO BECOME MUSEUM EXHIBIT

RINGO STARR is set for a very special honour to mark his upcoming 70th bi rthday - the gold-plated drum he bashed on the BEATLES’ 1964 U.S. tour is to become a museum item in New York.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art will display the snare drum as part of a special exhibition honouring his big birthday on 7 July (10).
The instrument, which was presented to Starr by the Ludwig Drum Company in Chicago, Illinois, will be on view to museum visitors from the rocker ’s birthday to the end of the year.

KRAVITZ SHOCKS CHOIR WITH SURPRISE APPEARANCE

LENNY KRAVITZ was so stunned when he overheard a New Orleans, Louisiana c hoir belting out his hit track FLY AWAY while he was dining out nearby he surprised the singers by showing up to applaud them.
The rocker was on a nearby terrace when he heard the Voice of Praise Ch oir playing a rendition of his song.
Impressed Kravitz followed the joyous sound and walked in on the choir, even joining singers on drums.
After rocking out with the choir, the singer took the microphone to com plete the track for a growing crowd of onlookers.
Kravitz posted a video of the performance on his Twitter.com page, writ ing, "In case you missed this, when I unexpectedly joined the VOP (Voice of Praise) Choir in NOLA (New Orleans) the other day." Talking into the lens at the start of the clip, he says, "I was just si tting up on a terrace and I hear some strange music."

Hardcore punk icon HENRY ROLLINS has defended his decision not to attack KISS star GENE SIMMONS for bragging about his wealth on his U.S. talk sho w - insisting he was happy for the heavy rocker to "hang himself".
The former Black Flag and Rollins Band frontman admits he received a de luge of mail from angry fans for letting Simmons ramble on about his "hid eous" wealth and sex life during an awkward interview on Rollins’ former TV show The Henry Rollins Show.
The punk legend tells Spinner.com, "(Fans asked), ‘Why didn’t you give him s**t?’ (But) I’m not going to argue with a man in his 50s who’s set i n his ways. He was just doing his shtick.
"I decided he brought his own rope with him and he felt like making a h angman’s noose, so I let him do his thing. There’s nothing to argue with.
"I’ve known Gene for a long time. That’s just Gene doing his thing. Gen e has found the two things in life he loves - money and Gene Simmons.
"I don’t think he’s a bad guy… He’s not subtle, nor is he trying to o bscure inconvenient or ugly aspects of himself. There it is, right in fro nt of your face. You can like it or not. You don’t have to go to the conc ert."

MASON BLASTS ALBARN FOR GORILLAZ’S GLASTONBURY SLOT

Former BETA BAND frontman STEVE MASON has hit out at DAMON ALBARN for dom inating the main stage at Britain’s Glastonbury music festival two years in a row, insisting he should have handed over the opportunity to another group.
Albarn and his Gorillaz band stepped in as last minute replacements for U2 when Bono was forced to undergo emergency back surgery.
But Mason has criticised Albarn for accepting the honour to headline la st weekend’s (25-27Jun10) event after playing on the main stage with his other band, Blur, last year (09).
He tells NME.com, "I couldn’t explain to you how little interest I had in whether U2 played or not. I could not care less. The only thing that’ s bad is that Albarn got to have a headline when he had one last year. He should have given it to someone else." Albarn recently admitted performing at Glastonbury has been among the h ighlights of his career so far, saying: "For me Glastonbury is the most s pecial festival on earth. I believe that there’s magic in the earth there , so I’d never take it for granted."

REDGRAVE & JONES TO TAKE DRIVING MISS DAISY TO BROADWAY

GLEE LANDS NOMINATION AT TV CHOICE AWARDS

GLEE continues to take the world by storm - the hit TV musical has landed a nomination at the U.K.’s TV Choice Awards.
The BAFTA-nominated small screen comedy, about a high school glee club, will go up against The Vampire Diaries and British shows Married Single Other and Misfits for Best New Drama.
Cult sci-fi series Doctor Who has earned a mention for Best Family Dram a, while TV timelord Matt Smith and his assistant Karen Gillan have lande d Best Actor and Best Actress nominations, respectively.
Smith will face competition from Desperate Housewives star John Barrowm an, who is up for his role in Torchwood, while Skins’ Jack O’Connell and Ashes to Ashes’ Phillip Glenister will also compete for the title.
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell’s reality TV series Britain’s Got Talent and Th e X Factor will fight it out for Best Talent Show, along with Strictly Co me Dancing and Dancing On Ice, and the Best Soap award will be a close ca ll between long-running programmes EastEnders and Coronation Street, Emme rdale and Hollyoaks.

Actress VANESSA HUDGENS is still reeling from a series of nude photo leak s that exposed her bare flesh to the world in 2007 and 2009.
The 21-year-old High School Musical star’s good girl image was tarnishe d by the saucy snaps, which she allegedly took as a naughty treat for boy friend and co-star Zac Efron.
In 2007, pictures taken of Hudgens posing provocatively both nude and i n lingerie appeared online - forcing the Disney star to issue a public ap ology, and she hit headlines again last year (09) when she found herself at the centre of another naked photo scandal, when new snaps circulated o nline.
And Hudgens is still coping with the thought of intimate photos surfaci ng for the world to see.
She tells U.S. magazine Glamour, "I think it has made me stronger. But it still hurts. It sucks because (the photos were) supposed to be private .."

HILL BLAMES TRAFFIC FOR ARREST

Funnyman JONAH HILL has no regrets about his 2006 arrest for urinating in a public place - because he would rather risk a run-in with the law than face the embarrassment of soiling himself.
The Superbad star was held up in heavy traffic one night in Los Angeles , so decided to relieve himself in an alleyway.
Cops spotted Hill committing the crime and he was taken into custody.
But the actor is adamant he did nothing wrong and he would do it all ov er again if he found himself stuck in a similar sticky situation.
Hill tells Britain’s FHM magazine, "(It’s) my deep dark secret. I was l iterally just in traffic - there’s so much traffic in L.A. - and I needed to pee so bad and I was not going to make it to a bathroom, so I just pu lled into this alley and started peeing.
"Then all of a sudden two cop cars were behind me and I got arrested fo r urinating in public. I couldn’t go home to my girlfriend with urine-cov ered pants. I’d rather come home arrested than with pee in my pants." (ZN

KING ANNOUNCES THE END OF LARRY KING LIVE

Veteran TV newsman LARRY KING has confirmed reports he’s ending his 25-ye ar run as the host of CNN talk show LARRY KING LIVE.
King took to his Twitter.com account on Tuesday (29Jun10) to tell fans the news, explaining he had asked the cable network’s executives if he co uld close his popular show later this year (10), and they agreed.
In the statement, he said, "25 years ago, I sat across this table from New York Governor Mario Cuomo for the first broadcast of Larry King Live.
"Now, decades later, I talked to the guys here at CNN and I told them I would like to end Larry King Live, the nightly show, this fall and CNN h as graciously accepted, giving me more time for my wife and I to get to t he kids=E2=80=99 little league games." King and his wife Shawn are currently trying to save their marriage aft er both filed for divorce earlier this year (10).
The newsman insists he’s not retiring completely, adding, "I=E2=80=99ll still be a part of the CNN family, hosting several Larry King specials o n major national and international subjects.
"I=E2=80=99m incredibly proud that we recently made the Guinness Book o f World Records for having the longest running show with the same host in the same time slot. With this chapter closing I=E2=80=99m looking forwar d to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it=E2=80 =99s time to hang up my nightly suspenders." DAZED & CONFUSED PAGE TARGET OF COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT SUIT

LED ZEPPELIN guitarist JIMMY PAGE has been targeted in a copyright infrin gement lawsuit by an American folk singer, who alleges the band’s hit sin gle DAZED AND CONFUSED was illegally sampled from his earlier version.
In a Federal lawsuit obtained by TMZ.com, folk singer Jake Holmes claim s he obtained a copyright for Dazed and Confused in 1967 - two years befo re Led Zeppelin recorded their version of the song.
But, due to the statute of limitations, Holmes is only able to sue for damages from the last three years.
Holmes wrote and recorded Dazed and Confused for his debut solo album T he Above Ground Sound, which was released in 1967. Page reworked the song for The Yardbirds, and subsequently Led Zeppelin in 1968.
Led Zeppelin hold a separate copyright, which the folk star now dispute s.

AMERICAN IDOL judge KARA DIOGUARDI is voting for HARRY CONNICK, JR. to re place SIMON COWELL as her sidekick on the U.S. talent show.
The crooner jumped to the top of the favourites list after he mentored the finalists for an episode on the latest season of the show - and songw riter DioGuardi insists he’d be the perfect for the role.

German rockers the SCORPIONS’ farewell tour has been hit by illness - sin ger KLAUS MEINE is suffering a chest cold and has been told he can’t perf orm until Thursday (01Jul10).
The diagnosis has prompted the Rock You Like a Hurricane hitmakers to c ancel a performance in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday (30Jun10).
Meine is expected to be ready to take to the stage again on Thursday in Detroit, Michigan.
A statement from the band reads, "It is with a heavy heart that we have to disappoint our longtime, devoted fans in Columbus, Ohio by not being able to perform there. Klaus’ doctors have told him in no uncertain terms that he needs the proper rest so he can shake the bug and successfully c ontinue the tour." Cinderella, the Scorpions’ support act for the cancelled show, will per form a free show for Ohio fans.

FORMER KISS STAR LOSES BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION APPEAL

Former KISS star VINNIE VINCENT has lost an appeal that could have helped him stave off bankruptcy following a court battle with his ex-bandmates.
The guitarist, real name Vincent John Cusano, was barred from seeking b ankruptcy protection from paying more than $81,000 (=C2=A354,000) to Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons after unsuccessfully suing them for royalties i n 1997.
In court, he alleged Simmons and Stanley owed him royalties for his wor k on 1983 album Lick It Up, but a federal judge in Los Angeles ruled agai nst him and awarded the defendants fees and costs amounting to $81,000.
Vincent took the case to an appeals court, but lost, according to Court house News Service.

PRINCE TO GIVE EUROPEAN FANS NEW ALBUM FOR FREE

Pop star PRINCE will be giving away his new album 20TEN with newspapers i n Europe.
The Purple Rain singer, who released his 2007 album Planet Earth as a f ree CD with Britain’s Mail on Sunday newspaper, has teamed up with a hand ful of European publications to expand the idea next month (Jul10) - to c oincide with planned concerts on the continent.
Prince has joined forces with the publishers of the Daily Mirror and Da ily Record in Britain for the CD giveaway, and more than 2.5 million copi es of the album will be distributed.
The German edition of Rolling Stone will also include 20Ten, as well as Het Nieuwblad in Belgium.
Each of the publications will also feature an extensive interview with the reclusive star.

AMELIE TOPS BEST SHOT MOVIES LIST

French film hit AMELIE has topped a new poll to find the best shot film m ade between 1998 and 2008.
The American Cinematographer magazine list is the follow-up to one the publication did over a decade ago to seek out the most beautiful movie of 1894 to 1997.
Amelie’s cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel is thrilled with the new honou r, telling the magazine, "This is a real honour for me, especially consid ering the other movies in this list. These are some of the finest cinemat ographers, and I’m not sure I deserve to be among them, but I am very hap py to be. They are all explorers." More than 17,000 film fans participated in the poll. Delbonnel’s camera work beat Emmanuel Lubezki’s in Children of Men and Janusz Kaminski’s for Saving Private Ryan.
Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood) and Roger Deakins (No Country for O ld Men) round out the top five.
Deakins, an eight-time Oscars nominee since 1995, had a total of four f ilms in the publication’s top 50 poll - he also landed on the list for hi s work in the films The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and The Man Who Wasn’t There. (KL/WN/MT
