BROOKS & DUNN SCRAP SHOWS OVER ILLNESS

Veteran country stars BROOKS & DUNN have cancelled their performance at a star-studded benefit concert in Tennessee on Tuesday (22Jun10) and resch eduled two other shows due to illness.
The duo was slated to play at the Nashville Rising charity gig, which w as organised by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill to raise money for those affect ed by the recent flooding in the city.
Brooks & Dunn have cited "illness" for the cancellation, with Ronnie Du nn reportedly battling a sore throat.
A post on the band’s website, reads, "Due to illness Kix (Brooks) & Ron nie (Dunn) will not be appearing at the Nashville Rising benefit for floo d relief in Nashville, Tennessee on June 22. The rest of the show will st ill go on as planned so please support the cause!" The singers also postponed two gigs over the weekend in Virginia, movin g the dates back to later in the summer.
The Nashville Rising concert will take place at the city’s Bridgestone Arena and feature performances from stars including Miley Cyrus, LeAnn Ri mes and Taylor Swift.

WILSON TO REJOIN THE BEACH BOYS

BRIAN WILSON is rejoining THE BEACH BOYS for a tour to mark the band’s 50 th anniversary.
The legendary songwriter will team up with the two other surviving foun ding members, singer Mike Love and guitarist Al Jardine, for a series of 2011 shows to mark five decades since the group formed in 1961.
Wilson’s brothers and bandmates, Dennis and Carl Wilson, died in 1982 a nd 1998.
The three remaining original members of the group last came together in 2006, putting their long-strained relationships and legal battles behind them to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their iconic Pet Sounds album.
Love has since toured regularly under The Beach Boys name, with his son Christian and longtime member Bruce Johnston, while Wilson has been perf orming solo shows since 2002.
And Love admits he is delighted the original band will be coming back t ogether again next year (11).
He tells the Las Vegas Sun, "Now we’re gearing up for the 50th annivers ary, and Brian Wilson, who has been working on some unfinished Gershwin m usic project, will rejoin us. I’m sad that Carl Wilson passed away 11, 12 years ago from the same lung cancer problem that claimed the life of Geo rge Harrison. That was not a fun time for us. But I am happy that now my son Christian is in the group. Yes, the line-up has changed over the year s, but it’s been pretty consistent the past several years." (LR/WNWCLV/MT

AGUILERA, ANTHONY AND ROBINSON FOR JACKSON TV TRIBUTE

CHRISTINA AGUILERA, MARC ANTHONY, LL COOL J and SMOKEY ROBINSON have sign ed up for a star-studded TV tribute to honour the late MICHAEL JACKSON on the first anniversary of his death.
The King of Pop passed away on 25 June, 2009 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Los Angeles home, just weeks before he was due to headline his comeback concerts in London.
To mark a year since the King’s of Pop’s passing, a host of music stars will team up for a TV tribute on CBS News’ The Early Show on Friday (25J un10).
Aguilera, Anthony and Robinson, as well as rapper LL Cool J and British singer James Morrison, will perform Jackson’s Man in the Mirror live dur ing an hour-long special dedicated to the late superstar, according to Us Weekly.
Aguilera admits she is honoured to take part, saying, "Music wouldn’t b e what it is without someone like Michael Jackson. I remember going to my high school talent show singing The Way You Make Me Feel and being a hug e fan of his album Bad. I know all my dancers wouldn’t be behind me danci ng if it weren’t for that." Anthony adds, "A Michael Jackson comes around literally once in a lifet ime. They break the mold and I think there are people who just sacrifice their life, their personal life all for the arts. That’s what Michael did ; he sacrificed his life for the arts." The tribute show will air in America on Friday (25Jun10).

DOCTOR WHO STAR SMITH IS A HIT WITH PEARL LOWE

MATT SMITH has won the approval of his girlfriend DAISY LOWE’s mother PEA RL - she has branded the DOCTOR WHO star a "match" for her daughter.
The British actor recently rekindled his on/off love affair with linger ie model Daisy after reportedly ending the relationship last month (May10 ).
The couple proved the romance is back on after Smith whisked Daisy away for a vacation in Italy last week (17Jun10), where they were spotted kis sing and frolicking together in the sea.
And former Powder singer Pearl is convinced the relationship will last, because the young lovers are well suited for one another.
She tells Hello! magazine, "Matt’s a very nice boy. I’ve only met him o nce, because he works, which is great. She’s met her match - someone who works as hard as she does." But Pearl admits her headstrong daughter, whose father is Bush rocker G avin Rossdale, doesn’t always listen to her opinion when it comes to dati ng, adding: "I can name at least four (boyfriends) I didn’t like, and she went out with them anyway."

FRANCO TO EXHIBIT ART IN NEW YORK

SPIDER-MAN star JAMES FRANCO is to show off his artistic talents with his debut solo exhibit in New York.
The actor, who took up painting as a high school student, will display his contemporary drawings, photography, short films and sculptures in the show, entitled The Dangerous Book Four Boys, at the Clocktower Gallery.
The exhibit, which opens on Wednesday (23Jun10), will delve into themes including boyhood and the "sexual confusion" of adolescence, according t o curator Alanna Heiss.
One unusual work is said to explore a romantic encounter between Star T rek characters James T. Kirk and Spock.

RADCLIFFE IS MAGIC AT POTTER KARAOKE

DANIEL RADCLIFFE wowed his HARRY POTTER co-stars during a recent karaoke party - by showing off his newly-acquired singing skills when he took the mic.
The British actor has been taking vocal lessons since signing up for Br oadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which wi ll hit the New York stage next year (11).
Radcliffe admits he enjoyed showing off his new talents during a recent night out with the cast of the boy wizard movies.
He tells MTV.com, "I love karaoke. I am one of those people (who says), ‘No, no, I can’t, I couldn’t possibly, no I won’t… All right, give me the mic!’ And then I’m elbowing other people out of the way to get to the stage.
"(I sang Elvis Presley’s) Hound Dog. That, and then I did Feeling Good by Muse. That was my proudest moment, because I actually did that rather well. I was really pleased, because I can sing. I’ve been having singing lessons for two and a half years. I’m not amazing, obviously, but I’m all right." And Radcliffe reveals some of his colleagues also enjoyed a turn in the spotlight, with Rupert Grint performing Sonny and Cher’s I Got You Babe, and Ollie Phelps, who plays George Weasley, stunning the crowd with a re ndition of the Beastie Boys’ (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!) ..

RITTER WANTS FERRERA WEDDING INVITE

JASON RITTER wants to watch his THE DRY LAND co-star AMERICA FERRERA get married - because he was one of the first friends she told about her enga gement.
The former Ugly Betty star accepted her partner Ryan Piers William’s pr oposal shortly before the pair’s planned trip to Iraq earlier this month (Jun10) to visit U.S. troops serving in the Middle East.
The newly-engaged pair was joined on the morale-boosting trip by Ritter , who helped the couple celebrate their happy news.
And Ritter is hoping he’ll be invited to watch the actress walk down th e aisle.
Speaking at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, he tells WENN. " I haven’t gotten an invitation yet but I think I will be (invited). Their engagement was really exciting. They did that right before we left to go to Iraq so we were all in New York and we got in the car to go to the pl ane together and America was showing us the ring. It’s always a beautiful thing when people commit themselves to each other. They’re both really b eautiful people and I’m really excited about them; it’s just fantastic."

LIGHTS GO OUT ON KIMMEL’S SHOW

JIMMY KIMMEL’s celebrity guests SETH ROGEN, JOHN HENSON and DIERKS BENTLE Y were left in the dark during a taping of his U.S. talk show on Monday ( 21Jun10) - after a black out hit the TV studio.
The stars were all lined up to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but just a n hour before the shoot was scheduled to begin, a power failure struck th e Los Angeles building where the show is taped.
But resourceful host Kimmel refused to let the black out stop productio n, and used the webcam on his laptop computer to record the entire progra mme, according to the show’s publicist Chelsea Hettrick.
Hettrick admits the celebrity guests were "going with what happened", w ith Bentley changing his planned performance to play an acoustic set with his band.
The episode will air in America on Wednesday (23Jun10).

COWELL’S REP DISMISSES LOVE SPLIT RUMOURS

SIMON COWELL’s representative has dismissed rumours the reality TV judge has parted ways with his fiancee MEZHGAN HUSSAINY - following growing spe culation of a split.
The music mogul hasn’t been seen in public with his partner for several weeks and he has appeared at a string of high profile events, including a recent outing to Britain’s famed Ascot racecourse, without the make-up artist on his arm.
But Cowell’s longtime spokesman, public relations guru Max Clifford, is adamant the couple hasn’t broken up - they have just been parted by thei r hectic work schedules over the last two months.
He tells Britain’s Metro newspaper, "They’ll be together again this wee k. She is flying over (to Britain). Although they have been apart, they h ave been speaking every day on the phone."

JONAS ELATED AFTER WEST END DEBUT

NICK JONAS’ theatre dreams came true on Monday (21Jun10) after the pop st ar made his debut in London’s famed West End.
The 17-year-old star of boy band the Jonas Brothers, who began his care er as a child actor on Broadway, marked his first night playing Marius in Les Miserables at the Queen’s Theatre in the British capital.
He was cheered on by his older siblings and bandmates, Kevin and Joe, w ho flew to the U.K. to watch their brother take to the stage in the music al.
On the morning of his first performance, Jonas wrote in a post on his T witter.com page, "I woke up today and realised… Time flies very quickly …. When you’re living the dream." And after his first curtain call, he added, "What a night. First show w as amazing. Thanks to everyone for the good luck messages. Congrats (cong ratulations) to all my cast mates. Goodnight." ALY AND AJ’S ALLEGED STALKER PLEADS NOT GUILTY

A man who was arrested on suspicion of stalking Disney stars ALY and AJ M ICHALKA has pleaded not guilty.
Caesar Brantley entered a not guilty plea on Monday (21Jun10) to one co unt of felony stalking and a misdemeanour violation of a restraining orde r protecting the singing/acting sisters, formerly known as Aly and AJ and now called 78violet.
He was taken into custody after he was allegedly found outside the gate d community where the duo lives in Calabasas, California in the early hou rs of Thursday morning (17Jun10).
The 25 year old will return to court on 30 June (10) for another hearin g.
Aly claimed Brantley is an "obsessed fan" who is determined to marry he r "no matter what" in filings for the restraining order, obtained by TMZ.

JAY-Z GOES AHEAD WITH ‘AXED’ NEW YORK SHOW

JAY-Z went ahead with an outdoor concert in New York on Monday (21Jun10) just days after the gig was axed amid security fears - the rapper moved t he show and scaled down his performance in order to comply with city regu lations.
The hip-hop mogul had planned to pack the streets of midtown Manhattan with a surprise gig atop the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater during ru sh hour, as part of an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.
But city officials refused to grant the star a permit to perform after word of the secret show leaked, and officials feared a mass turn out woul d bring chaos to the streets of the Big Apple.
But Jay-Z refused to let the ruling damper his plans - he moved the sho w to the roof of the TV studio and allowed only 100 invited fans to watch him perform with his surprise guest Eminem. A permit was not required fo r the re-jigged show, as the performance was held on private property, ac cording to the New York Post.
The decision to axe Jay-Z’s gig on top of the Ed Sullivan Theater came just days after overcrowding led to the cancellation of a Drake gig in th e city.

JACKSON ESTATE LAWYER TO SUE MANN?

A lawyer representing MICHAEL JACKSON’s estate has threatened legal actio n against KATHERINE JACKSON’s new business partner, alleging he has no ri ght to make money from the late singer’s legacy.
The Jackson matriarch has teamed up with businessman Howard Mann to pub lish a picture book called Never Can Say Goodbye: The Katherine Jackson A rchives.
The book hits stores this week (begs21Jun10) to mark the first annivers ary of the superstar’s death, and the pair is said to be negotiating reco rd deals to release 273 unheard Michael Jackson songs.
Mann reportedly obtained the tracks in a sale after the Thriller legend ’s dad Joe failed to pay a storage bill.
But Howard Weitzman, an attorney for Jackson’s estate, tells TMZ.com th at Mann "may be using his relationship with Mrs. Jackson to infringe upon Michael Jackson’s copyrights … to the detriment of, among others, Mich ael’s three kids." Katherine Jackson inherited 40 per cent of her son’s estate and was nam ed the guardian of his three children, Prince, Paris and Blanket.
Weitzman maintains Mann is not authorised to "exploit any estate assets " and has vowed to take "whatever action is necessary to prevent him from unlawfully profiting".

JAY-Z SUED OVER PRIVATE FLIGHTS

Rap superstar JAY-Z is facing legal action after allegedly failing to pay for flights on a private jet.
Executives at Air Platinum Holding are suing Jay-Z - real name Shawn Ca rter - over claims he paid for just 37 of 55 hours of travel on the compa ny’s planes in 2009. They’re demanding $81,000 (=C2=A354,000) for 18 hour s of allegedly unpaid flight time.
The Big Pimpin’ star has also been accused of failing to cover various other fees, including $24,200 (=C2=A316,130) for a luxury trip to England , a $12,285 (=C2=A38,190) tax charge, $8,500 (=C2=A35,700) for catering o n 17 flights within the U.S. and $3,000 (=C2=A32,000) for food on four in ternational trips.
Bosses are seeking $137,485 (=C2=A391,650) from Carter in total, report s TMZ.com.

BONO PLEASED WITH BLOODY SUNDAY REPORT

U2 frontman BONO has praised the British government’s inquiry into the Bl oody Sunday shootings, insisting the newly-published report on the traged y will help the victims’ families "heal".
Thirteen civilians in Northern Ireland were shot dead by British paratr oopers on 30 January, 1972 during a civil rights march, and the results o f a 12-year-long investigation into the massacre were published last week (15Jun10).
U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron apologised for the shootings on behal f of the British Government as he delivered the long-awaited Saville repo rt.
Rocker Bono, who wrote U2’s anthem Sunday Bloody Sunday about the incid ent, believes the report’s publication marks an "extraordinary day" for h is native Ireland.
In a column for the New York Times, he writes, "One of the most extraor dinary days in the mottled history of the island of Ireland was witnessed on both sides of the border last Tuesday…
"Healing is kind of a corny word but it’s peculiarly appropriate here; wounds don’t easily heal if they are not out in the open. The Saville rep ort brought openness - clarity - because at its core, it accorded all the people involved in the calamity their proper role." Bono has also praised Cameron for addressing the painful issues, writin g, "Thirty-eight years did not disappear in an 11-minute speech - how cou ld they, no matter how eloquent or heartfelt the words? MURPHY: ‘NO GLEE MOVIE’

GLEE creator RYAN MURPHY has dismissed reports the musical TV series is h eading to the big screen.
Internet gossips flew into a frenzy after a report suggested the show, which stars Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch as feuding high school teache rs, would be given the Hollywood movie treatment.
But Murphy insists the cast and crew’s main priority is producing a fol low-up to their hit first season.
Murphy tells EW.com, "There will be no Glee movie in the foreseeable fu ture. Despite overtures, I and the studio (Fox) have decided we want to p ut our energy into the second season with no distractions for the cast."

NAVRATILOVA SETTLES LEGAL BATTLE WITH ‘EX-WIFE’

Retired tennis ace MARTINA NAVRATILOVA has settled a legal battle with he r former ‘wife’ who accused the star of abruptly ending their eight-year romance and locking her out of their home in Florida.
Navratilova began dating Toni Layton in the early 1990s, after she left her husband to be with the former sports star.
They exchanged vows in a same-sex ceremony New Hampshire in 2000, but t he union was not official because gay marriage was not legal in the state at that time.
Layton alleges she was left broke and homeless when Navratilova dumped her without warning in 2008 and booted her out of the home they shared. S he subsequently filed a lawsuit in Sarasota, Florida, fighting for a slic e of the assets, including property, cars, jewellery, art and a boat, whi ch she is said to have shared with Navratilova.
The former couple has now settled the legal battle out of court, and al though details of the agreement were kept private, New York Post gossip c olumn Page Six is reporting Layton was handed an estimated $3 million (=C2 =A32 million) pay out.
Navratilova’s representative, Gabriel Serrato, says, "All the disputes between the parties have been resolved and the terms of the settlement ar e confidential."
