NEWCOMER WORMALD LANDS FOOTLOOSE LEAD

Hollywood newcomer KENNY WORMALD is stepping into KEVIN BACON’s shoes for the remake of movie musical FOOTLOOSE following the departures of both Z AC EFRON and CHACE CRAWFORD.
The project has been delayed twice in recent months after the two top c hoices quit.
Thomas Dekker, the star of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, had been tipped to take over the lead role, but Paramount Pictures executive s announced on Tuesday (22Jun10) that Wormald had landed the part.
The 25-year-old professional dancer has previously appeared on Jennifer Lopez’s MTV reality show DanceLife and 2008 movie Center Stage 2: Turn i t Up.
Actress Lori Singer is expected to return to make an appearance in the new Footloose, 17 years after she played Bacon’s wildchild love interest Ariel in the 1984 film. Singer Julianna Hough is still tapped to play Ari el in the remake, which will be directed by Craig Brewer.

SEAN PATRICK THOMAS AND WIFE ARE TWO-TIME PARENTS

Hollywood couple SEAN PATRICK THOMAS and AONIKA LAURENT THOMAS are parent s again after their second child was born last week (16Jun10), The pair plans to name the baby boy Luc, according to People.com. The 3 9 year olds already have a two-year-old daughter, Lola.

RICHIE HANDED YEAR’S PROBATION EXTENSION

NICOLE RICHIE has been granted an extension to her probation because moth erhood has prevented her from completing court-ordered alcohol education classes.
The socialite and fashion designer was taken into custody by California police in December, 2006 and charged with driving under the influence (D UI).
She was sentenced to four days behind bars in 2007 after confessing to using marijuana and powerful painkiller Vicodin, but served just 82 minut es of her jail term. She was also ordered to attend 38 alcohol education classes as part of her probation.
However, Richie has been unable to complete the requirement in the thre e years since she was sentenced after starting a family with rocker Joel Madden - the star was granted leave from the course when she gave birth t o daughter Harlow in January, 2008, and son Sparrow in September, 2009.
Her probation was due to end in July (10) but her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, headed to a Los Angeles court on Tuesday (22Jun10) to explain th e delay in completing the classes and request extra time.
The judge approved Holley’s request and Richie has now been given until March, 2011 to complete the classes, although her probation could be ter minated early if she finishes them before the deadline, reports TMZ.com.
And Richie will have another reason to be happy with the news of the ex tension - a report about her class attendance states, "Her attitude is ex cellent." Holley has got her hands full with stars right now - she’s also represe nting Lindsay Lohan.

BAND OF HORSES PERFORM SECRET SHOW AT NEW YORK LANDMARK

Rockers BAND OF HORSES treated New York fans to a special concert last we ek (18Jun10) when they played a secret set at the city’s Grand Central St ation.
The band alerted devotees to the one-off free gig last Thursday (17Jun1 0), just a day before they planned to rock out at the Big Apple’s famous landmark on Friday (18Jun10).
Over 1,000 people lined up for the show but many were left disappointed after only 500 fans were able to cram into the Vanderbilt Hall near the station’s main concourse.
However, those who did manage to squeeze into the small space were trea ted to a 15-track set which lasted just over an hour, reports NME.com. (M

CONNICK, JR. AMAZED BY BIEBER’S CALM NATURE

HARRY CONNICK, JR. is in awe of JUSTIN BIEBER after seeing how at ease th e teen pop sensation is dealing with his "crazy" level of fame.
The Baby hitmaker, 16, has become a global singing icon across the worl d since catching the eye of record label executives on video-sharing webs ite YouTube.com in 2008.
He landed a deal with R&B superstar Usher and now he’s among the bigges t stars in the world.
His debut album, My World, further catapulted him into the spotlight up on its original release in 2009 and earned him nominations at the World M usic Awards, the BET Awards and the Juno Awards.
But Connick, Jr., 39, can’t believe how calm Bieber is when he’s faced by thousands of screaming fans - because he has struggled to deal with hi s own fame for the past three decades.
Connick, Jr. tells USA Today, "I don’t know how he handles this crazy l evel of fame. I mean, it’s tough for adults, let alone teens. Everything you do or wear is scrutinised. But he seems to be doing fine."

BUSH REFORM FOR CALIFORNIA FESTIVAL

Rockers BUSH are to reform for a festival gig in California.
The British band will join Eminem, KISS and Blink-182 at the Epicenter Twenty Ten event in Fontana in September (10).
Bush split in 2002 and frontman Gavin Rossdale has since gone on to hav e solo success as a rocker and actor.
As well as the headliners, the band will also join Rise Against, Thirty Seconds To Mars, B.O.B., Bad Religion and Suicidal Tendencies, among oth ers.
And, in addition to Bush’s comeback, Epicenter Twenty Ten will also mar k Eminem’s first California concert since 2005, Blink-182’s only 2010 con cert in North America and KISS’ only 2010 California appearance.
Bush are also making plans to release a new album before the end of 201 0.

GAGA ‘TERRIFIED’ OF BABIES

Pop star LADY GAGA has no plans to settle down and start a family anytime soon - because she’s "terrified" of babies.
The Poker Face hitmaker has reportedly reunited with ex-boyfriend Matth ew Williams after working together on her stage outfits, and the pair has been snapped out and about with Williams’ baby son, who was born last ye ar (09), but the 24 year old insists she’s nowhere near ready to become a mother herself.
She tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I’m terrified of babies. I think, cr eatively, as a woman, you change once you give birth. I’m totally not rea dy for that." GaGa admits she has made big sacrifices in her personal life for her ca reer - and sex is one of them.

ALEXA RAY JOEL MOVES ON WITH NEW BOYFRIEND

Singer ALEXA RAY JOEL is moving on from the heartbreak that prompted her overdose last year (09) with the help of new boyfriend CASS DILLON.
The 24-year-old daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley was hospit alised in New York in December (09) when she complained about breathing d ifficulties after taking homeopathic medication Traumeel.
She later revealed the breakdown was prompted by a fight with her ex-bo yfriend Jimmy Riot, after he refused to accept a Christmas gift from her.
She said, "I was in such a dark place. My soul was shattered. I only fe lt OK with him. I couldn’t play a show without him. I was addicted to thi s man, and it spiralled out of control. My heart broke all over again." But, six months on from her breakdown, Joel has found happiness with si nger/songwriter Dillon. The pair met when Dillon was hired to play guitar on the star’s upcoming album, reports People.com.
And Dillon, also 24, already has a connection to his new girlfriend’s r ocker father - he recorded and released the charity single Christmas in F allujah in 2007, a track originally written by Billy Joel.

KARATE KID SMITH WANTS TO TRAIN IN HONG KONG

THE KARATE KID star JADEN SMITH is heading back to the Far East to perfec t his martial arts skills after learning how to fight in China as part of his preparation for the movie remake.
The 11-year-old actor - son of Hollywood stars Will Smith and Jada Pink ett Smith - spent last summer (09) in China training with experts from hi s co-star Jackie Chan’s personal stunt team before shooting the action fi lm.
Chan recently admitted he was impressed by the boy’s skill and dedicati on to martial arts, and has tipped Smith to become the next great action star.
He said, "After the movie, I told Will, ‘Don’t waste his talent; he’s j ust so good.’ He’s (Jaden) still training every day." The new version of The Karate Kid has become a huge box office hit for the youngster, taking a staggering $56 million (=C2=A337.3 million) and b eating The A-Team movie to the top of the box office in its opening weeke nd.
And Smith has no plans to quit training now he’s done with the movie - and he’s begging his mum to take him to Hong Kong to continue mastering h is fight skills.
Pinkett Smith says, "Now he’s asking to send him to Hong Kong for two m onths so he can continue his training. So I’ll probably go to Hong Kong f or two months and do that." And the actress wants to make the long-haul journey another family affa ir - because her nine-year-old daughter Willow wants to improve the langu age skills she picked up while her brother was filming in China last year (09).
Pinkett Smith adds, "I’ll take Willow because she’s learning Mandarin. She loves to learn Mandarin."

BEN STILLER has launched a new campaign to raise money for schools in Hai ti.
The Meet the Fockers star has linked up with internet giants Yahoo in a bid to raise $50,000 (=C2=A333,300) to build a temporary school in the e arthquake-ravaged country.
Stiller posed for a photo at the Cannes Lions advertising festival in F rance, and convinced Yahoo chiefs to pledge $1 (=C2=A30.67) for every hit the photo gets online, up to $50,000.

GYMNAST JOHNSON WANTS STALKER TO GET MENTAL HELP

Olympic gymnast SHAWN JOHNSON is urging the judge presiding over her hara ssment case to sentence her stalker to time in a mental institution to he lp the overzealous fan "get his life back on track".
Robert O’Ryan was arrested in March, 2009 after he attempted to break i nto the Los Angeles set of Dancing with the Stars, where Johnson was a co mpetitor.
Authorities later found duct tape, a shotgun, a handgun, a knife and a bulletproof vest in his car, and he was charged with felony stalking, fel ony commercial burglary and two misdemeanour counts of carrying a loaded firearm.
He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but he was convicted on all charges earlier this month (Jun10).
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered O’Ryan to undergo a psycholo gical evaluation next month (Jul10) to determine whether he should be hel d in a mental hospital or sentenced to prison time.
Now Johnson, who told the court she was so scared by the stalker she ev en considered leaving the TV competition for safety reasons, has broken h er silence for the first time since O’Ryan’s conviction, insisting he nee ds psychological help.
And the 18 year old hopes the professional treatment will help O’Ryan r ealise his mistakes and prevent him from targeting other young women.
In an interview on U.S. TV’s Good Morning America on Tuesday (22Jun10), she says, "I think it (going to a mental hospital) is better than him go ing to prison because he is ill and he needs help and he needs to get his life back on track.
"Honestly, I think it’s better if he stays there for a long time, becau se, if he gets out, if it’s not me, he could go after someone else, so it ’s kind of my duty to make sure it doesn’t happen." But Johnson is refusing to let the scare derail her plans to compete in the 2012 Olympics - she reveals she recently began training for the big sporting event, which will take place in London.
A hearing to rule on the outcome of the psychological evaluation is sch eduled for 13 July (10). If O’Ryan is found to be mentally stable, he fac es a maximum of three years and eight months in state prison, plus two ye ars in county jail. Otherwise, he could serve out his sentence in a state mental hospital.

CIVIL TRIAL LAWYER WANTS LOHAN PREVENTED FROM PLEADING POVERTY

The three men suing LINDSAY LOHAN over an alleged 2007 joyride, which end ed with her arrest, want a Los Angeles judge to ban the actress from plea ding poverty when the case goes to trial.
The Mean Girls star is facing legal action from three men who have accu sed her of kidnapping and endangering their lives when she allegedly jump ed into a vehicle they were passengers in and took off on a wild ride thr ough Malibu, California. Lohan was arrested after the incident and charge d with driving under the influence (DUI).
The civil case is due to go to trial but lawyer Tracie Rice, who is rep resenting the plaintiffs, wants the actress to be forbidden from claiming she has no money in court because her money assertions could affect the jury’s decision if they choose to award compensation.
Legal papers filed by Rice on Monday (21Jun10) and obtained by TMZ.com read, "Plaintiff Tracie Rice hereby moves this Court for an order to excl ude all testimony about Lindsay Lohan not having money or currently being poor or in debt." The documents go on to state: "The motion is based upon the ground that the evidence is irrelevant and immaterial to the issues in this action a nd unduly prejudicial." Lohan has been dogged by rumours she is struggling financially after fa lling behind on her rent payments earlier this year (Apr10).
In April (10), the actress was alleged to have handed over $23,000 (=C2 =A315,300) to her Los Angeles landlord to settle a two-month debt.
The civil case will go to trial on 26 July (10).

JAGGER LAUGHS OFF MARRIAGE REPORTS

SIR MICK JAGGER’s daughter JADE was amused by reports she married last ye ar (09) - because she sparked the speculation herself with an update on h er Facebook.com page.
Tabloid gossip suggested the jewellery designer had wed her longterm pa rtner Dan Williams in a secret ceremony after she updated her relationshi p status on the social-networking site to ‘married’.
But the 38 year old admits she only claimed to be wed because she didn’ t like her other options.
She tells Britain’s Hello! magazine, "(The reports) came from me changi ng my marital status on Facebook. I didn’t really want to be single or en gaged so I changed it to married! I would consider marriage, but I haven’ t been married before, so you wonder if it is the right thing to do. It c ertainly wouldn’t be a classic church wedding because I find that hypocri tical if you’re not a believer.
"I would like to grow old with Dan. I spent a lot of time in the past c raving stability and the family unit, but thankfully I have that now. I a m going to the next level."

INDONESIAN SINGER QUESTIONED BY POLICE

Famed Indonesian singer ARIEL has surrendered himself to police for quest ioning over allegations he breached the country’s strict anti-pornography law by filming a sex tape.
Two homemade videos, which allegedly feature the star in bed with two d ifferent women, surfaced online earlier this month (Jun10) and the scanda l has hit headlines across the country.
The women in the tapes with Ariel, real name Nazril Irham, are purporte dly the singer’s current partner Luna Maya and his ex-girlfriend Cut Tari - both prominent television personalities in Indonesia.
Irham handed himself into police on Monday (21Jun10) to face questionin g over his alleged involvement in the tapes.
Police spokesman Zainuri Lubis confirmed: "Ariel surrendered today afte r police named him a suspect for breaching the anti-pornography law. If h e hadn’t surrendered we would have arrested him." All three face up to 12 years in jail if they are found to have breache d the Islamic country’s 2008 anti-pornography law, which sets tough priso n sentences for anyone who produces, disseminates, trades or provides por nography.

SCOTTISH SINGER WHITE DIES

Veteran Scottish blues singer TAM WHITE has died at the age of 68.
The musician, who played with stars including BB King and Eric Clapton, is believed to have collapsed on Monday (21Jun10) in Edinburgh, Scotlan d while he was on his way home from a work out session at his local gym. He later passed away.
No more details concerning his cause of death were available as WENN we nt to press.
A statement posted on White’s official website reads, "It is with great sadness to announce that Tam passed away today. May our thoughts be with his wife Moira and children." White began his career when he formed The Boston Dexters in 1964 - the band scored a record deal and played a six-month residency at London’s Po ntiac Club alongside the legendary John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, with Eric Clapton.
He embarked on a solo career after the band split in the late 1960s, an d found fame in TV when he was asked to record vocals for Robbie Coltran e’s character in 1987 TV series Tutti Frutti.
He later embraced acting and appeared in numerous small screen shows in Britain, before landing a role opposite Mel Gibson in 1995’s Braveheart and Cutthroat Island with Geena Davis.
He was last seen onscreen in British soap opera EastEnders, with a brie f stint between 2003 and 2004.
He is survived by his wife Moira and their children.
