GO-GO’S VALENTINE: ‘WE WON’T PLAY ON WITHOUT CARLISLE’
THE GO-GO’S have dismissed plans to replace retiring singer BELINDA CARLI SLE - because the girl group are too old to work with a new frontwoman.
Some bandmates are still hoping to end the band’s 32-year career in sty le with a proper farewell tour after initial dates this summer (10) were scrapped when guitarist Jane Wiedlin pulled out due to knee surgery - but that decision rests with Carlisle.
Bassist Kathy Valentine tells Spinner.com, "I’m hoping we can reschedul e so that we can do a proper victory lap (but) it’s kind of beyond my con trol and it’s gonna be off in the future if it happens. The whole reason that it was a farewell tour in the first place (was) because Belinda want ed to retire.
"We felt like we would rather go out on top and intact. If we were 25 o r 30 and she wanted to retire, then it would make sense to go (and) find a new singer and make our new way. But we’re all over 50. None of us saw really the point of getting a new singer (sic)." Meanwhile, Valentine reveals she and her bandmates are in talks to comp ose and record a Christmas single.
