RAHMAN’S STAGE COLLAPSES
Oscar winner A.R. RAHMAN had to call off two shows in North America at th e weekend (19-20Jun10) after the stage he had planned to perform on colla psed.
Crew members were left injured when the stage at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan collapsed during set-up on Saturday.
Officials at the Pontiac Fire Department have opened an investigation i nto what went wrong.
Slumdog Millionaire score composer Rahman also cancelled his Jai Ho Con cert: The Journey Home World Tour date at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre in Canada on Sunday (20Jun10) to allow time for stage equipment damaged to b e repaired or replaced.
In a tweet to fans, he wrote, "I regret any inconvenience this causes m y fans and am deeply grateful no one from my team or the local Detroit st age crew was seriously injured. It’s a miracle that my team escaped with minor injuries. The lighting rig came apart. Thanks to the almighty that everyone’s safe." Rahman will pick up the tour in San Francisco, California on Wednesday (26Jun10). Both postponed shows are expected to be rescheduled next month (Jul10).
