Indian moviemaker KAIZAD GUSTAD has been sentenced to a month in prison a fter his British assistant was killed in an accident on a movie set in Mu mbai.
Nadia Khan, 26, died after she was hit by a train during the filming of Gustad’s movie Bombay Central in 2004.
The accident occurred while the crew was shooting scenes at Mumbai’s Ma halaxmi station. Khan was reportedly speaking into a walkie-talkie and cu eing up actors when she was struck by the train.
Gustad was taken into police custody and initially charged with culpabl e homicide not amounting to murder. In 2009 the charge was downgraded to causing death by a rash and negligent act, and now, after a lengthy trial , he has been found guilty.
A judge in India sentenced Gustad to a month behind bars and a fine of $1,650 (=C2=A31,100), but he will not be sent to prison as he has already served 35 days in jail while on remand.

UMA THURMAN reportedly confronted the financial adviser accused of embezz ling money from his celebrity clients when she discovered $1 million (=C2 =A3666,667) had allegedly gone missing from her bank account.
The Kill Bill actress is one of a number of stars said to have been cau ght up in a money-making scheme perpetrated by high-profile investment ba nker Kenneth Starr.
Starr was arrested by New York authorities on Thursday (27May10) and ch arged with wire fraud, investment adviser fraud and money laundering, ami d claims he used cash belonging to celebrity clients including Martin Sco rsese and Wesley Snipes to buy a luxurious Manhattan apartment.
He is alleged to have cheated his clients out of a staggering $30 milli on (=C2=A320 million).
Details of the case have now emerged, and in the federal criminal compl aint filed against Starr, prosecutors allege Thurman, named only as Clien t 2 in the paperwork, realised a large sum of money had been transferred out of her bank account and into an account belonging to an associate of the accused.
She then stormed into Starr’s office with her lawyer, and the complaint alleges he tried to stall her, saying he was unable to contact the assoc iate.
The extract, obtained by the New York Daily News, reads, "Starr returne d to the room several times to say that (his associate) was unreachable a nd unavailable by phone or email, (but Thurman had already spoken to the associate, who told her) he did not know the money belonged to her and th at he thought it belonged to Starr." Starr is alleged to have taken money from another client to pay Thurman back.
He has been released on $250,000 (=C2=A3166,667) bail, and told the New York Daily News, "It will be cleared up."

KIRSTEN DUNST’s personal assistant has confirmed she was keeping marijuan a in the hotel room where the actress’ purse was snatched in 2007 - but i nsists the star had no knowledge of the drugs.
Liat Baruch took the stand at a court in New York on Thursday (27May10) at the trial of a man accused of stealing the Spider-Man star’s designer handbag from her suite at the city’s SoHo Grand Hotel.
James Jimenez was convicted on a charge of criminal trespass in October (09) but is facing a retrial at Manhattan Supreme Court after a jury las t year (09) failed to reach a verdict on charges of felony burglary.
A lawyer for the 35 year old claimed during a hearing on Wednesday (26M ay10) that his client gained access to the penthouse because he was with alleged drug dealer Jarrod Beinerman, who was reportedly invited to Dunst ’s hotel room - but the claim was denied by the star’s rep.
Dunst’s assistant Baruch has now admitted there was marijuana in her ba g, which was taken along with Dunst’s Balenciaga purse.
But she is adamant the actress was not aware of the stash, and she had no intention of sharing the drugs with her celebrity boss, according to t he New York Daily News.
She told the court, "I had a little bit of marijuana in my bag. No one else smoked pot. I was planning on smoking it alone after we wrapped, aft er work." And when defence attorney Robert Parker asked her, "You were going to s moke that with Ms. Dunst, right? Ms. Dunst knew you had the marijuana in your bag, correct?" Baruch replied, "No".
Dunst, who testified at the original trial last year (09), is expected to take the stand again next week (beg31May10).

The Bleeding Love hitmaker had signed up to open for Christina Aguilera on her U.S. summer (10) jaunt, but was left with a free schedule after t he Dirrty hitmaker postponed the dates to afford her more rehearsal time.

HAPPY MONDAYS star BEZ has denied he assaulted his fiancee during an alle ged bust-up on Tuesday (25May10), which resulted in his arrest.
The man with the maracas was taken in by cops after he allegedly kicked in the door of the apartment he shares with Monica Ward and their 23-mon th-old son, Leo, in Manchester, England.
Ward claims Bez, real name Mark Berry, demanded money from her, but whe n she refused he reportedly forced his way in and held her against a wall ..
In court on Thursday (27May10), prosecutor Matthew Siddall said, "She a lleges a history of abuse".
Berry denied charges including battery and refusing to take a class A d rugs test and was bailed on the condition he stays 200 yards (183 metres) away from the apartment.

NICK JONAS has signed up to appear on the West End stage for a three-week run next month (Jun10), according to a revered London theatre producer.
The Jonas Brothers singer is already a Broadway stalwart, having perfor med in a range of productions on the New York stage as a child before emb arking on a pop career with his siblings.
He previously appeared in Les Miserables in 2003, and is now set to ret urn to the musical to play Marius in the British capital.
Jonas will appear at the British capital’s Queen’s Theatre from 21 June (10) for a three week run, according to theatre impresario Sir Cameron M ackintosh.
He tells Britain’s Daily Mail, "I went up to him at the closing night p arty in New York and told him he was terrific and hoped that he would one day return to play Marius. We’ve been in touch a lot and, of course, sin ce then he has become this world-famous star.
"He and his father and I agreed that it would be great if he came and p layed Marius here in London. He has bent over backwards to fit it all int o his schedule." The 17 year old is expected to jet into the U.K. to start rehearsals at the beginning of June (10).

A judge has refused to grant MINDY MCCREADY’s request for a court order t o prevent her mother talking to the press.
The star, who has a history of alcohol and drug abuse, was reportedly f ound unconscious at her mum’s home in Fort Myers, Florida on Tuesday morn ing (25May10).
Her mother, Gayle Inge, called for help, suggesting the singer had atte mpted to commit suicide.
The singer’s spokesman, Brent Young, has since played down the incident , revealing McCready simply experienced a bad reaction to the pain pills she had been prescribed after breaking her toe on Sunday (23May10).
McCready filed legal papers earlier this week (beg24May10) alleging Ing e claimed she had tried to commit suicide in a bid to ruin her chances of gaining custody of her son.
McCready’s attorney James Moon tells E! News, "The reason we were reque sting a gag order against Gayle Inge is really obvious. I think she’s giv en five or six stories now. First, it’s an overdose, then it’s a suicide, then she’s retracting those statements. Enough’s enough, basically." But the judge denied the singer’s request to issue an emergency gag ord er against Inge, as well as her bid to swap her mother’s custody rights o ver her four-year-old son Zander to her father, Tim.
The judge has kept the option open for an appeal at a later date.
Moon adds, "We kind of expected the judge’s ruling to deny both. But we wanted to get the point out to everybody that Mindy’s trying to do every thing to get her son back and is making great strides. And we wanted to g et the point out to everybody that there is a little kid involved here." McCready lost custody of Zander in 2007 when she was jailed for violati ng probation after allegedly assaulting her mum in a fight over the singe r’s drinking and drug addictions. She was given permission to reopen cust ody proceedings last week (beg17May10).

British actor DOMINIC COOPER is putting off moving out of the home he sha res with best pal JAMES CORDEN, because he’ll miss the funnyman when he l ives on his own.
The Mamma Mia! star has spent several years cohabiting with Corden, sin ce the pair became close after landing roles in the original production o f Alan Bennett’s hit play The History Boys in 2004.
Cooper, who has reportedly split from girlfriend Amanda Seyfried, has n ow purchased his own house on the same street as Corden’s pad in London.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON is in talks to hit Broadway as assassinated civil right s icon MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
The Pulp Fiction star is reportedly in New York reading for the play Th e Mountaintop, which chronicles the imagined events of the night before K ing was shot dead in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968.
The Mountaintop was named Best Play at the 2010 Olivier Awards in Londo n, and the production is set to hit Broadway in the autumn (10).
David Harewood played King on the London stage and won an Evening Stand ard Award Best Actor nomination for the part.

Comedienne JOAN RIVERS has spoken out in defence of SANDRA BULLOCK’s sham ed husband JESSE JAMES, praising the TV mechanic for his kindly nature.

LINDSAY LOHAN’s embattled parents MICHAEL and DINA have made amends by ho lding a meeting to discuss their troubled daughter.
