BACKSTREET BOYS LEAVE RECORD LABEL

The BACKSTREET BOYS have parted ways with their longtime record label aft er 16 years on the roster.
The boy band signed to Jive Records in 1994 and released seven albums t hrough the label over the years.
They have now announced their departure from Jive in a post on their of ficial website, titled "Freedom", which dismisses rumours they were dumpe d from the books because of falling album sales.
The post reads, "So the news is out! The Backstreet Boys are no longer signed to long time record label Jive Records. The amicable split is very exciting for the group. " Bandmember Brian Littrell adds, "This is the best thing, at the best ti me that could have ever happened for us. We are confident in the future o f our band, and are looking forward to the new things to come. 2011 is go ing to be a great year for us."

DEKKER TO STEP INTO CRAWFORD’S FOOTLOOSE SHOES?

Actor THOMAS DEKKER is the frontrunner to take over from CHACE CRAWFORD i n the FOOTLOOSE remake, according to a U.S. report.
The Gossip Girl hunk was set to tackle the role made famous by Kevin Ba con in the 1984 classic, but dropped out of the project last month (Apr10 ) citing "scheduling conflicts".
The Los Angeles Times reports that Dekker, best known for his role in T erminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, is preparing to step in to replac e Crawford, and he’s already hinted he has a "fun" big budget film in the pipeline.
He tells Digital Spy, "Right now I’m kind of closing this big, intimida ting huge movie that I can’t say what it is, but that will be a trip if w e do that… (It’s) a big fun movie, it’s not very dark."

CATTRALL SHUNS SEX SCENES

KIM CATTRALL has promised she will no longer remove her clothes for sex s cenes now she is in her fifties - insisting she will stay covered up from now on.
The 53 year old became famous for her saucy role as maneater Samantha J ones in the Sex and the City TV series, which saw her disrobe to act out graphic sexual scenarios on a regular basis.
Cattrall has continued the character in two movies, but she’s adamant f ans hoping to see her strip onscreen in Sex and the City 2 will be disapp ointed.
She says, "When I turned 50, I decided that I didn’t want to be photogr aphed nude anymore, so you don’t really see me nude (in the new movie), y ou see me doing maybe a physical, a sexual act, but there’s no part of my body that is exposed. I don’t consider these sex scenes, I consider them comedic opportunities because all of these romps that Samantha goes on a re funny. LEFEVRE SUPPORTING NEW TWILIGHT MOVIE

RACHELLE LEFEVRE has voiced her "support" for the new TWILIGHT movie - in sisting she still plans to see the film even though she was dropped from the cast.
The redhead plays villainous Victoria in the first two installments of the vampire franchise, but was left "stunned" and "deeply hurt" when stud io executives at Summit Entertainment announced she wouldn’t be appearing in the third film, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
Producers claimed Lefevre failed to tell them in advance that she had s igned up to star in an independent movie and that shooting on the project would overlap with production on Eclipse - so they replaced her with Bry ce Dallas Howard.
But Lefevre insists she isn’t holding a grudge and is happy to see the movie upon its release in July (10).
She tells E! Online, "Why wouldn’t I see the movie? They’re amazing peo ple and they’re great kids and they’re doing awesome work. Why shouldn’t they be supported?"

GHOST WHISPERER GONE FOR GOOD

JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT’s GHOST WHISPERER is gone for good - negotiations to save the cancelled TV show have fallen through.
The spooky CBS series became the latest victim of America’s widespread TV cull when it was axed last week (ends21May10), but fans were hopeful i t could be brought back from the dead after ABC bosses expressed an inter est in continuing the programme.
But executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander have now confirmed att empts to negotiate a deal have failed.
A statement from the pair, obtained by Deadline.com, reads, "After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce Ghost Whisperer will not be returning for a sixth season. We’ve had an i ncredible experience and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved." (

DEL TORO: ‘THE HOBBIT IS ON HOLD’

Director GUILLERMO DEL TORO has confirmed upcoming LORD OF THE RINGS preq uel THE HOBBIT has been put on hold indefinitely because the movie has be en caught in a "tangled negotiation" over the future of the MGM movie stu dio.
The film, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s first book in the fantasy series, w as reportedly due to begin shooting this summer (10), but has been mired in delays.
Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson, who will act as producer on t he new film, recently dismissed rumours of trouble with the picture, insi sting: "It’s not really been delayed, because we’ve never announced the d ate".
But Del Toro has now spoken out, revealing the film is the latest victi m of the ongoing problems at MGM - the famed media company was put up for sale last year (09) after falling millions of dollars in debt, but a buy er is yet to be found.
He tells Comingsoon.net, "It’s not greenlit. That’s categorical. We’ve been caught in a very tangled negotiation. There cannot be any start date s until the MGM situation gets resolved. They do hold a considerable port ion of the rights." But Del Toro admits preparation work has already begun so the film can begin production as soon as the go-ahead is given.
He adds, "We have designed all the creatures. We’ve designed the sets a nd the wardrobe. We have done animatics and planned battle sequences. We are very, very prepared for when it is finally triggered." The next instalment in the James Bond franchise has also been suspended indefinitely due to the uncertainty over the future of MGM. Production o n the 23rd Bond movie, which was scheduled for a 2011 or 2012 release dat e, was suspended last month (Apr10).

COLEMAN ‘ON LIFE-SUPPORT’

Former child star GARY COLEMAN has suffered a serious brain haemorrhage a nd is currently "on life support" in hospital, according to his manager.
The Diff’rent Strokes star was admitted to a local hospital in Utah on Wednesday (26May10) following a fall at his home. He was fully conscious after the accident but his condition gradually worsened.
He lost consciousness on Thursday (27May10) and is now being treated in an intensive care unit at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
The star’s manager John Alcantar announced the sad news in a statement to E! Online, and asked fans for their "thoughts and prayers".
The statement reads, "As of mid-morning on May 27, Mr. Coleman was cons cious and lucid. By early afternoon, Mr. Coleman was slipping in and out of consciousness and his condition worsened.
"We are saddened to announce that since mid-afternoon on May 27, 2010, Mr. Coleman has been unconscious and on life support.
"At this critical moment, we can only ask for your thoughts and prayers for Gary to make a speedy and full recovery."

BIEBER INFURIATED PARENTS AFTER POLICE PICK-UP

Clean-cut teen star JUSTIN BIEBER felt the wrath of his parents after he was brought home by cops for creeping out of his house in the middle of t he night.
The 16 year old admits he once defied the family’s rules by sneaking ou t of his home to cycle the streets with a pal who was sleeping over.
But the singer’s rebellious antics were cut short when local police pic ked the pair up and handed them back to his furious parents.
He tells Top of the Pops magazine, "I snuck out once. My friend slept o ver and we were like, ‘Let’s go out.’ We just went biking and were being stupid but we weren’t doing anything bad.
"But the police saw us and brought me back home, because there was a cu rfew on the area! It was two in the morning and I got grounded for a mont h! That’s the worse trouble I’ve ever been in."

GUETTA FORCED TO HALT SINGLE RELEASE FOR BLACK EYED PEAS

French DJ DAVID GUETTA was ordered by record company bosses to stall the release of his new song GETTIN’ OVER YOU - because they didn’t want him i n direct competition with labelmates the BLACK EYED PEAS.
The beatmixer shot to mainstream fame after his duet with Kelly Rowland , When Love Takes Over, became a worldwide hit, and was flooded with work offers from will.i.am and his group.

REED CURATES SYDNEY ARTS FESTIVAL

LOU REED has taken charge of an arts festival at Australia’s famous Sydne y Opera House - picking his favourite music and films to be shown at the two-week event.
The veteran rocker launched the Vivid Sydney festival on Thursday night (27May10) along with his performance artist wife, Laurie Anderson.
The couple takes over from Brian Eno, who curated last year’s (09) fest ival, and they’ve picked 27 music and theatre acts to perform at the city ’s legendary venue.
Speaking at Thursday’s launch, Reed said, "This is a great opportunity to have fun, come over to a place that we really like with musicians we r eally like and show films we really like. Here’s a wonderful opportunity to show some stuff you might not know about and that might be really grea t fun for you. The fun for us is putting it together. Everything in here is something we really, really like." Reed will perform at the event, along with singer/songwriter Rickie Lee Jones and gospel group The Blind Boys of Alabama, while acts from Russia , Japan and Canada are also on the bill.
The rocker has also enlisted his private tai chi tutor to teach classes on the Opera House forecourt.

KNAPP DOESN’T BLAME PALS FOR CUTTING CONTACT

Christian singer JENNIFER KNAPP has forgiven her music industry peers for cutting contact since she ‘came out’ as gay - insisting religious music stars could jeopardise their careers "just by talking with" her.
The Grammy-nominated 36 year old ended years of speculation about her s exuality last month (Apr10), by finally revealing she is a lesbian.
Knapp is preparing to return to the limelight after a seven year hiatus and she admits many of her former friends in the Christian music industr y no longer want to associate with her.
But the snub means she is even more appreciative of those who have made the effort to reach out to her.
She says, "Just by talking with me, an individual whose livelihood depe nds on their perceived ‘holiness’ can come into question. Publicly, I’m n apalm, and I’m handled with care." But Knapp is adamant her sexuality, and the way gay people are perceive d by conservative Christians, will not affect her faith.
She adds, "Many practising LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgende r) Christians will tell you that by honestly approaching their true sexua l nature, their understanding of their spiritual being has only increased .. There are Christian churches that excommunicate the openly queer, as we ll as those churches that fully embrace and celebrate them.
"Despite the claim that the more conservative voices may express, the m oment the religious discover they are gay, he or she doesn’t magically lo se their faith."

DA BRAT OUT OF PRISON

Rapper DA BRAT has been granted day-release from prison to find a new car eer - she’s working as a window-maker.
The star, real name Shawntae Harris, was sentenced to three years jail in Alto, Georgia following her 2008 conviction for aggravated assault. Th e charge stemmed from an attack on a club waitress the previous year (07) ..
But less than two years after she was locked up, the rapper has been pu t on the prison’s work release program - allowing her to spend all day wo rking in her local community before returning to her cell at night.
The scheme is designed to prepare prisoners for early release - and Har ris is delighted with her new job making windows.
She says, "I’m out on a lil’ pass (sic). I had to do some lawyer, attor ney stuff. I got a job. I work a 9 to 5 because I’m in the work release p rogram. I make windows, so if ya’ll need a window, holla at your girl." (

GAGA CRIES ON STAGE IN TRIBUTE TO GRANDFATHER

LADY GAGA broke down in tears on stage in Britain on Thursday night (27Ma y10) after revealing her beloved grandfather is fighting for his life in hospital.

WEST URGES ARTISTS TO BOYCOTT ARIZONA

KANYE WEST has urged his fellow musicians to boycott Arizona over the U.S .. state’s controversial new immigration legislation - calling on artists to follow in the footsteps of civil rights icon ROSA PARKS.
Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack De La Rocha is leading a campaig n against Arizona’s recently passed law, which makes failure to carry imm igration documents a crime.
Cypress Hill, Juanes, Massive Attack, Jack Black, filmmaker Michael Moo re and De La Rocha’s bandmates have also joined the campaign.
And West is backing the action, insisting performers should not play an y shows in the state as a mark of protest - comparing it to civil rights activists who boycotted buses in Alabama after African-American Parks ref used to give up her seat to a white passenger in 1955.
The Stronger hitmaker says, "When Rosa Parks refused to give up her sea t, they arrested her. As a result, people got together and said, ‘We are not going to ride the bus until they change the law.’ It was this courage ous action that sparked the Montgomery bus boycott.

MCAVOY JOINS THE X-MEN

JAMES MCAVOY has joined the X-MEN - he will step into PATRICK STEWART’s role of CHARLES XAVIER in the upcoming prequel.
The Scottish actor will play a younger version of Stewart’s character, also known as Professor X, in X-Men: First Class, which will chart the be ginnings of the superhero saga.
The movie will focus on the early years of Xavier and Erik Lensherr, wh o later became known as magnetic mutant Magneto and was played by Sir Ian McKellen in the blockbuster trilogy. It is not yet known who will play t he younger version of McKellen’s character.
The film, which will be directed by Kiss-Ass moviemaker Matthew Vaughn, will be the second prequel to hit cinemas, following the release of X-Me n Origins: Wolverine last year (09), which revealed the history of Hugh J ackman’s clawed character.
X-Men: First Class will reportedly begin filming this summer (10) in Lo ndon and is slated for a June 2011 release, according to the Hollywood Re porter.

PARKER PAYS RESPECTS TO MCQUEEN AT LONDON SEX PREMIERE

SARAH JESSICA PARKER paid a stylish tribute to late fashion designer ALEX ANDER MCQUEEN at the London premiere of SEX AND THE CITY 2 - by teaming o ne of his creations with a poignant black armband in his memory.
The actress was friends with the tragic couturier, and was devastated w hen he committed suicide at his London apartment in February (10).
She has been chosen to honour McQueen with a posthumous award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America next month (June10), and Parker u sed the launch of her latest movie in the designer’s hometown to pay her respects publicly.
The star donned a McQueen gown to grace the red carpet on Thursday nigh t (27May10), and added a black armband - a traditional sign of mourning.
She said, "There was no choice, I wanted to wear Alexander McQueen… a gain. He made a dress for me two years ago and I feel it is an emotional tribute to him. I miss him tonight, but I’m thrilled to be wearing this d ress. I feel like someone is looking down on me."
