The vegetarian Splash star has been a keen green activist for years, ru nning her home on solar power and driving a car that runs on biodiesel.

She tells Britain’s Live from Studio Five, "We are in the midst of the biggest extinction crisis in human history. We’re losing 150 to 200 speci es every 24 hours and it’s all human caused. The UN and the CBD - the Con vention for Biological Diversity - are trying to figure out ways to get k ids engaged because they’re our future champions of the planet.
"You want as much diversity as possible and to encourage that with (chi ldren planting) seeds is a great way. Another great way to encourage kids is to put up a bird’s nest or to go out and be little scientists and tra ck what’s in their neighbourhood, and clean up their neighbourhood - a pa rk or a river.
"Just get them out there. Most kids prefer to be inside watching TV or playing video games and that’s called the nature deficit disorder - it’s a real disorder and can affect kids’ brains in a negative way so it’s imp ortant we get them engaged and to care about the environment." (CL/WNVL5/

HARDWICKE: ‘TWILIGHT PAY DISPUTE IS A MESS’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:36 am

TWILIGHT director CATHERINE HARDWICKE has waded into the alleged pay disp ute which threatens to delay the final installment of the movie franchise , insisting the film’s supporting cast "probably do" deserve a wage incre ase.
The film series’ leads, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, are recei ving multi-million dollar pay cheques for the final movie, The Twilight S aga: Breaking Dawn, which will be split into two pictures.
But stars like Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz are reportedly in negotiat ions to land better salaries for the film.
Summit Entertainment movie executives are keen to prevent a deadlock fr om causing delays, and sources claim the film bosses are willing to recas t some of the supporting roles if appropriate salary deals can’t be reach ed.
And Hardwicke, who directed the first installment of the franchise, adm its it "breaks" her heart to hear of the "complicated" pay dispute, as sh e’s sure the young stars have little say over the alleged wage demands.
She tells USMagazine.com, "Ashley and Kellan have agents, managers, law yers… you get all of these outside influences telling you you should ho ld out for this much because you’re such an important part of the franchi se.
"Possibly, Ashley and Kellan might not even be all that involved. They have all the other people telling them things and a lot of stuff can get mishandled. There’s so many possible misunderstandings. It breaks my hear t.
"It could turn ugly. Do (these actors) deserve more money? Probably the y do, on one level. But, if everybody makes so much money then… it’s co mplicated. What a mess!" Shooting on the two Breaking Dawn films is slated to begin in the autum n (10). The movies will be shot back-to-back, ahead of possible releases in November 2011 and summer 2012.
