MICHAELS IN TEARS OVER DAUGHTER’S TRIBUTE

Rocker BRET MICHAELS shed tears during his first TV interview since his b rain haemorrhage - as his eldest daughter recalled what went through her mind when she realised her dad could die.
The Poison star managed to survive last month’s (Apr10) medical emergen cy and is already making comeback plans, but in a TV chat with Oprah Winf rey, which aired in the U.S. on Wednesday (19May10), the rock singer real ised exactly what impact his near-death experience had had on his daughte r, Raine.
In a videotaped message, the youngster poured her heart out, revealing, "The scariest part was just, like, thinking that my dad could die… All these memories were just flashing through my head.
"(I remembered) the first time onstage with him, the first time singing in the mic with him, the first time playing basketball.
"To think that my dad wouldn’t be growing up with me and that my dad wo uldn’t be walking me down the aisle for my wedding… was really heartbre aking." Michaels told Oprah, "I said, ‘I’m not gonna cry’, but it got me. I’ve got the lump in my throat." The rocker revealed that it was the thought of leaving his two daughter s without a father that gave him the strength to beat his medical emergen cy.
He added, "It gave me this unsinkable strength, this amazing courage to want to survive it."

COMMON COMES FULL CIRCLE IN NEW BASKETBALL FILM

COMMON’s latest movie role in basketball romance JUST WRIGHT brought him full circle - because Kiki Vandeweghe, the man who gave him his first cou rt job, is now the general manager of the team he plays for in the movie.
The rapper leads the New Jersey Nets to glory in the film and the real- life team’s top coaches agreed to train the star so he’d look like a prof essional on camera.
And there was one familiar face Common was thrilled to see again.
He explains, "The general manager of the Nets was actually the guy who gave me a job as a ballboy for the (Chicago) Bulls." Common, real name Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr., was a ballboy with big dream s back in 1985, when Michael Jordan was a Bulls superstar.
The rap star didn’t need a lot of coaching to look good - he has been a round basketball his entire life and his father, Lonnie Lynn, was an Amer ican Basketball Association star for the Denver Rockets.
And Common could have been a big sports star too: "I played from elemen tary school to high school and I ended up getting injured. It kinda ended my basketball career but sent me into rap.
"But I’ve got hoop dreams still… I really feel that I could play in t he NBA."

CAINE: ‘STUBBORN SEAN REFUSED TO PLAY OLD MEN’

MICHAEL CAINE has trashed his old friend SEAN CONNERY, insisting the form er 007 only retired from acting because he was too stubborn to play small er roles.
Caine has experienced a rebirth of late after playing a series of suppo rting roles in films like Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Austin Power s in Gold Member - and he thinks his The Man Who Would Be King co-star sh ould have followed his lead.
Instead, Caine claims, Connery, 79, was too interested in chasing "youn g man roles".
The Alfie star says, "The movie business retired Sean Connery because h e didn’t want to play small parts about old men and they weren’t offering him any young parts in romantic leads. So he was gone."

LOHAN LANDS A JOB AT CANNES

LINDSAY LOHAN’s trip to the Cannes Film Festival in France was worthwhile - she landed a movie job there.
The actress held talks with Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura at Cannes and now she’ll star in his upcoming horror movie Black Friday, which wil l be shot in 3D.
According to website BloodyDisgusting.com, the film follows a vigilante gang out to seek vengeance after a couple is viciously assaulted and mur dered.
Kitamura’s past movies have included Godzilla Final Wars and an adaptat ion of Clive Barker’s The Midnight Meat Train, which starred Bradley Coop er and Vinnie Jones.

WEISZ APPREHENSIVE ABOUT PLAYING KENNEDY

Actress RACHEL WEISZ is already feeling the huge responsibility of playin g JACKIE KENNEDY in husband DARREN ARONOFSKY’s new film - because she’s a Brit portraying an American icon.
The Mummy star will lead the cast in Jackie, which follows the beloved former U.S. First Lady as she copes with the assassination of her husband , President John F. Kennedy, in 1963.
And, although she can’t wait to get started on research for the role, s he’s also a little anxious about how America will accept her as Jackie.
She tells WENN, "It’s a recent project so the script is being developed and it’s a great script. I will have to start to do some reading.
"Jackie Kennedy is American royalty and a 20th century icon, so it’s ex tremely scary, daunting, challenging and a huge responsibility. I don’t k now exactly how I will play her yet because I haven’t started really work ing on it, but of course it’s a big responsibility."

STAMOS EVACUATED FROM DISNEYLAND HOTEL

Former ER star JOHN STAMOS was forced to evacuate his hotel in Disneyland , California on Wednesday morning (18May10) after a fire broke out.
The actor was staying at the theme park’s Grand Californian Hotel when guests were asked to vacate the building due to a kitchen emergency.
The small fire was soon distinguished and no was was injured in the inc ident.
Stamos took to his Twitter.com page to tell fans of his unexpected morn ing wake-up call, admitting he was in for a shock when he gathered with h is fellow hotel guests outside the building.
He writes, "saw nakedness I shouldn’t have seen."

LOVE QUITS ‘MIND CRACK’ TWITTER

COURTNEY LOVE has turned her back on Twitter.com after becoming addicted to the "stupid" social networking site.
The Hole rocker, who has battled substance abuse in the past, has frequ ently turned to her Twitter.com blog to give fans minute-by-minute update s on her thoughts and feelings.
She has even used the website to blast peers like Billy Corgan and ex-b oyfriend Edward Norton.
But Love claims she has now quit the celebrity trend.
She tells MTV’s Buzzworthy, "I’ve stopped twittering. It’s mind crack a nd it’s stupid." Love’s last tweet was posted on Monday (17May10).
The rocker isn’t the first one-time Twitter-loving celebrity, who has c hosen not to ‘tweet’ - Miley Cyrus and John Mayer have both turned their backs on the social networking site.

SUGABABES CHALLENGE BUENA’S TRADEMARK APPLICATION

British trio the SUGABABES have launched a legal battle against former si nger MUTYA BUENA over the rights to the group’s name after she applied fo r ownership of the trademark last year (09).
Buena formed the trio with Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy in 1998, but she quit the band in 2005, four years after Donaghy walked out on th e group.
Buchanan, the last remaining founding member, was kicked out by replace ments Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah last year (09) and Jade Ewen was hi red to take her place.
Buena then made a legal challenge for the Sugababes name in November (0 9) when she applied to the European Trademarks Authority, based on the fa ct none of the original members remained. Her request was registered by o fficials but has yet to be approved.
And now the current Sugababes line-up is fighting to keep the title - t he trio has filed a notice of opposition, backed by bosses at their recor d label, Island.
An Island Records rep says, "Contractually we are entitled to the use o f the name Sugababes in connection with records and films. We are just pr otecting that right." The current Sugababes line-up - Range, Berrabah and Ewen - is currently recording the group’s eighth studio album.

CAREY TURNS TO FERTILITY DOCTORS TO CONCEIVE?

MARIAH CAREY is undergoing fertility treatment in an effort to conceive h er first child with husband NICK CANNON, according to U.S. tabloid report s.
A representative for the Hero superstar was recently forced to deny spe culation she was already pregnant after the singer hinted she had "someth ing else very special on the way" at the Independent Spirit Awards in Mar ch (10).
But the couple, which has previously expressed its desire to start a fa mily, appears to be ready to become parents after Carey was spotted leavi ng a fertility clinic in Los Angeles on 11 May (10), reports Star magazin e.
And the singer, 41, has allegedly started taking hormone enhancements t o increase her chances of becoming pregnant.
A source tells the publication, "Mariah wants a baby ASAP (as soon as p ossible). She’s actually visited fertility specialists a number of times.
"Mariah is not going to be content until she becomes a mum, one way or another." Carey and Cannon renewed their vows last month (Apr10) as they celebrat ed their second wedding anniversary.

CERATI RECOVERING FROM BRAIN SURGERY

Argentinian rocker GUSTAVO CERATI has undergone brain surgery to remove a potentially fatal blood clot, just days after he was admitted to hospita l following a mini-stroke.
The singer, 50, was taken to hospital in Venezuela after collapsing at the end of a concert in Caracas on Saturday (15May10).
Doctors confirmed Cerati suffered a "ischemic vascular event", a condit ion which reduces blood flow to the brain and is known as a mini-stroke.
He was reported to be in a stable condition on Monday (17May10) but doc tors were forced to operate on him on Tuesday (18May10) after discovering the clot.
Cerati is now recovering in intensive care and hospital director Adolfr edo Saez admits, "The first 72 hours are critical." Saez adds, "(The surgery opened) a window to allow the pressure to dimi nish and prevent the brain stem from swelling, which could cause death."

WYCLEF TREATS INJURED HAITIANS TO SHOPPING SPREE

WYCLEF JEAN has treated three young Haitian amputees to $1,000 (=C2=A3670 ) shopping sprees after flying them to America to receive critical medica l care.
The rapper was devastated when his native Haiti was struck by a massive earthquake in January (10) and he has been a leading force in the relief efforts via his charity Yele Haiti ever since.
Earlier this month (May10), he welcomed 17-year-olds Margarette Pierre and Chantal Mori, who each lost an arm, and eight-year-old Farah Maurice, who had her leg amputated, upon their arrival in New York.
And he gave them an extra special treat on Tuesday (18May10) when they were allowed to pick out whatever they wanted from U.S. department store Kmart.
Jean, who was proud to be able to put smiles on the girls’ faces after their personal turmoil, said, "When you come from a country where you mak e $1 a day, giving them $1,000 is like giving them $10,000.
"They need to know there are people like them and they’re normal. Today they’re not thinking, ‘I don’t have a leg.’ They’re just being kids and they’re happy." The trio, whose trips are sponsored by Yele Haiti and the Global Medica l Relief Fund (GMRF), will be flown to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 3 Ju ne (10) to undergo complimentary treatment for their prosthetic limbs at Shriners Hospitals for Children.

MICHAELS BEGGED GOD FOR SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE

Rocker BRET MICHAELS turned to God and prayed for help when he feared he wouldn’t survive after suffering a near-fatal brain haemorrhage last mont h (Apr10).
The Poison frontman was rushed to hospital in Phoenix, Arizona on 21 Ap ril (10) with bleeding on the brain, just days after enduring complicatio ns following an appendectomy.
Doctors later discovered Michaels suffered a life-threatening side-effe ct of the condition called hyponatremia - a lack of sodium in the body th at can lead to seizures.
He spent days in intensive care and doctors feared he would never recov er - but he has stunned medics with his recovery, and is expected to rega in full health after undergoing further treatment in rehab.
But Michaels, who thought he had been "shot in the head" when the haemo rrhage occurred, admits he spent every day praying to a higher power, beg ging for a second chance at life.
In a TV interview with Oprah Winfrey - his first since the health scare , Michaels says, "(I said to God), ‘You gotta let me live through this. I ‘ve done a lot of rotten things. I’m asking for a break here.’" The episode of Oprah will air in the U.S. on Wednesday afternoon (19May 10).

OLSEN TWINS SELL OFF UNWANTED NEW YORK PENTHOUSE

Actresses MARY-KATE and ASHLEY OLSEN have finally sold a luxurious New Yo rk penthouse they never moved into - six years after they purchased it.
The twins, 23, splashed out $7.3 million (=C2=A34.87 million) on the fi ve bedroom property in 2004 shortly after enrolling at New York Universit y.
But the stars both dropped out of studies at the prestigious school and decided to put the penthouse, in Manhattan’s West Village, up for sale w ith an initial price tag of $9.45 million (=C2=A36.3 million).
The asking price was raised to almost $12 million ($8 million) a year l ater.
The girls’ estate agents managed to offload the property for close to i ts latest listing of $8.45 million (=C2=A35.63 million), reports the New York Post.

SMITH’S ‘WORN’ UNDERWEAR AUCTION HALTED

Lingerie allegedly used by the late ANNA NICOLE SMITH has been pulled fro m an online auction - because the used garments violate hygiene rules.
The bras, panties and garter belts were posted online at eBay.com by Sm ith’s pal Jackie Hatten - the sister of the star’s ex-boyfriend Mark Hatt en - earlier this week (begs17May10).
Hatten claimed the items had once been "worn" by the tragic model/actre ss in the auction description.
But the sale has been halted amid concerns for cleanliness.
An eBay representative tells TMZ.com, "eBay policy strictly prohibits l isting used underwear. Used clothing may be listed on eBay as long as it has been cleaned and the listing clearly states that the clothing is used .." Hatten is not the only one selling off Smith’s possessions - photograph er Larry Birkhead, who fathered the blonde’s daughter Dannielynn, has als o put memorabilia up for sale to raise money to secure the tot’s future.
The auction, set to take place in Las Vegas next month (Jun10), will fe ature Smith’s Mercedes sports car, bronze statues and furniture, and gown s and paintings by the star herself.
Smith died from a drug overdose in 2007.

WILLIAMS BRINGS BROADWAY TO CHARITY AUCTION

Actress VANESSA WILLIAMS helped to boost the bidding at a charity auction in New York on Monday night (17May10) by offering to sing for the highes t bidder.
The Ugly Betty star joined actor Kelsey Grammer and rap superstar Jay-Z at the Audemars Piguet Time to Give event, where a selection of celebrit y-designed watches, autographed by the stars themselves, went under the h ammer.
Jay-Z managed to bump up sales of a timepiece created and signed by for mer Frasier star Grammer by stepping on stage to take offers for the priz e, while his own design sold for $220,000 (=C2=A3146,700), reports the Ne w York Post.
But Williams took the auction one step further by adding a musical elem ent to the sale when bids on another watch rose to $132,000 (=C2=A388,000 ).
A source tells the New York Daily News, "Vanessa promised that if peopl e bid enough, she would perform. Sure enough, after someone shelled out $ 132,000, she sang a song from (her Broadway show) Sondheim on Sondheim." The event was held in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, a c harity supporting individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.

GOLF ICON RODRIGUEZ FINE AFTER ARMED ROBBERY

Golf legend JUAN ‘CHI CHI’ RODRIGUEZ is recovering after he was robbed at gunpoint at his home in Puerto Rico.
The star and his wife were held hostage by four men, who broke into the couple’s home while they were sleeping in the early hours of Wednesday ( 19May10).
The retired sportsman, 74, claims one robber was armed with a pistol, w hile the other intruders tied the elderly pair up with duct tape.
The burglars raided the property and made off with jewellery, cash and other personal belongings - and Rodriguez tells TMZ.com the 45-minute hei st was the "scariest situation I’ve ever been in".
Federal authorities are currently investigating the robbery but no arre sts had been made as WENN went to press.
Rodriguez rose to fame in the 1960s and became the first Puerto Rican t o be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

STOLEN PASSPORT DRAMA WILL LAND LOHAN IN JAIL

LINDSAY LOHAN will be a no-show for her important probation hearing in Lo s Angeles on Thursday (20May10) after losing her passport in Cannes, Fran ce.
The Mean Girls star must appear before Judge Marsha Revel at Beverly Hi lls Courthouse amid reports she has failed to complete court-ordered alco hol education classes stemming from a 2007 arrest.
Judge Revel has confirmed she will issue a warrant for Lohan’s arrest i f she fails to appear - and the actress appears to be stranded in Europe after her papers were stolen at the Cannes Film Festival.
Lohan took an ill-advised trip to France last week (ends14May10) to att end the festival.
Reports suggest the desperate actress attempted to check in for a fligh t to Los Angeles without proper identification on Tuesday (18May10) - but was turned away by airport staff.
She has now reached out to the U.S. Embassy and has scheduled an appoin tment with officials for Thursday morning to help replace the documentati on - but the meeting will come too late for Lohan to make it back in time for her court hearing.
Her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley confirms to TMZ.com, "I was on the phon e with Lindsay’s assistant the entire night and we’re doing everything we can to resolve this issue and get her back to L.A.
"Lindsay is distraught because it was her intention to get back to L.A.
today to do more alcohol education classes today and appear in court tom orrow." The news comes just a day after Lohan was praised as a model student in her alcohol education classes after a shaky start.
In documents submitted to court for the probation hearing, Cherie Marsh all, the director of the Right On Programs, writes, "In the beginning, sh e struggled with consistency and punctuality in attending her scheduled a ctivities… (Now) her attitude is positive and receptive to ideas regard ing lifestyle changes."

JONES CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY WITH CANNES BASH

GRACE JONES showed no signs of slowing down as she celebrated her 62nd bi rthday with a late-night performance in Cannes, France.
The singer, whose birthday is on Wednesday (19May10), took to the stage at a star-studded party thrown by vodka brand Belvedere in the French Ri viera.
She was due to perform at midnight on Wednesday but only appeared at 3a m to sing for the crowd, which included Julian Lennon, Dominic Cooper and Lindsay Lohan.
