ALLEN CROWNED QUEEN OF IVOR NOVELLOS

British singer LILY ALLEN has been crowned the queen of the prestigious I vor Novello songwriting awards after winning three top prizes at the cere mony on Thursday (20May10).
The Smile hitmaker was in "floods of tears" after picking up honours fo r best song musically and lyrically, as well as most performed work - bot h for her single The Fear.
She also scooped the coveted songwriter of the year award, considered t o be one of the most prestigious record industry honours.
Speaking about the chart-topping hit that earned her the accolades, All en told the ceremony: "This song is so much about feeling so lost. It has made me feel quite found all of a sudden." The hat-trick of honours is the perfect swan song to Allen’s music care er - she has already announced plans to retire from recording and touring later this year (10) to concentrate on starting a family and running a d esigner clothes hire shop.
Other big winners at this year’s ceremony in London include Paul Weller , who received the lifetime achievement award, and Scottish singer Paolo Nutini, who won the best album title for Sunny Side Up.
Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr was handed the inspiration award, a nd Frankie Goes to Hollywood producer Trevor Horn received the outstandin g contribution honour.
Composer Sir Tim Rice was awarded the Academy Fellowship, and singer-so ngwriter Imogen Heap won the prize for international achievement.
The classical music award went to Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Neil Sedaka took home the international achievement honour, and singer Natasha Khan - who performs under the name Bat For Lashes - won best contemporary sing le, for her song Daniel.

Olympic volleyball star KERRI WALSH has given birth to her second son.
The American sportswoman and her husband Casey Jennings welcomed little Sundance into the world on Wednesday night (19May10) in Torrance, Califo rnia.

LEE PAYS HOMAGE TO BROOKLYN IN VODKA BOTTLE DESIGN

Director SPIKE LEE has designed a limited edition vodka bottle, which cap tures the essence of his native Brooklyn, New York.
The Malcolm X filmmaker is the creative brains behind the packaging for Absolut Brooklyn, a drink flavoured with ginger and red apple.
The bottle features one of the borough’s distinctive brownstone buildin gs with the door number 165 - the same address of Lee’s childhood home in the Cobble Hill neighbourhood.
Absolut spokeswoman Sarah Bessette says, "We have a long history of col laborating with creative visionaries and nobody says Brooklyn more than S pike." The new drink went on sale in the U.S. for a limited four-month run thi s week (begs17May10).

FARRELL’S 40-YEAR-OLD NOVEL WINS BOOKER PRIZE=20

Late author J.G. FARRELL landed the prestigious Booker Prize in Britain o n Wednesday (19May10) for a 40-year-old historical novel.
His story Troubles was awarded the prestigious accolade for works publi shed in 1970, a year when no prize was handed out.
Farrell, who died in 1979, is one of only a handful of writers to win m ultiple Booker Prize honours - he also won the award in 1973 for The Sieg e of Krishnapur.

WHITE REFUSES TO RECONCILE WITH ESTRANGED STEPDAUGHTER

GOLDEN GIRLS star BETTY WHITE has refused to end a 30-year feud with her stepdaughter MARTHA LUDDEN.
The veteran actress wed Ludden’s father, U.S. TV personality Allen Ludd en, in 1963 when his daughter was 13.
Martha resented White for taking the place of her mother, who had died just two years earlier, in 1961, and the pair never got along. The teenag er turned her anger into rebellion and her behaviour caused friction with her own father.
A source tells the National Enquirer, Allen used to argue with Martha c onstantly over her… anger towards Betty. Her tumultuous relationship wi th her father caused him a lot of grief." Allen was eventually diagnosed with stomach cancer and passed away in 1 981 - and White has never forgiven Martha for causing so many problems, a ccording to the tabloid.
The insider says, "I think Betty blamed Martha for making Allen’s last years nothing but misery and heartache." Almost three decades after Allen’s death, White is still ignoring all a ttempts by Martha to reconcile.
Martha confirms, "The last time I spoke with my stepmother, Betty White , was 30 years ago."

HEIGL’S BABY GIRL IS FINE AFTER HEART SURGERY

KATHERINE HEIGL’s adopted daughter is "100 per cent fine" after undergoin g open heart surgery.
The Knocked Up star and her singer husband Josh Kelley welcomed baby Na ncy Leigh into their family from Korea last September (09), when the baby was 10 months old.
Heigl revealed the tot, nicknamed Naleigh, had special needs, as well a s a congenital heart defect. The baby underwent life-saving surgery when she was just two months old to repair a hole in her heart.
The baby girl had another operation just before Heigl took her home to Los Angeles and the actress insists Naleigh is now in perfect health.
She tells Harper’s Bazaar magazine, "Her heart is 100 per cent fine now .. She has a scar, so she won’t be wearing bikinis, which is fine by us." And Heigl is adamant being a mum to a special needs baby isn’t as tough as it may seem.
She adds, "A lot of children don=E2=80=99t find forever homes because t hey=E2=80=99re on that special-needs list, even if it=E2=80=99s because o f something as simple as her mother smoked cigarettes for a month, not kn owing she was pregnant. That=E2=80=99s not so huge (a problem) that you c ouldn=E2=80=99t handle it."

LOHAN WANTED FOR ARREST

A warrant has been issued for LINDSAY LOHAN’s arrest after she failed to attend a mandatory probation hearing in Los Angeles on Thursday morning ( 20May10).
The Mean Girls star was ordered to appear before Judge Marsha Revel at Beverly Hills Courthouse amid reports she has failed to complete court-or dered alcohol education classes stemming from a 2007 arrest.
But Lohan found herself stranded in Europe on Wednesday (19May10) after losing her passport following an ill-advised trip to France last week (e nds14May10) to attend the Cannes Film Festival.
She claimed her papers had been stolen and turned to U.S. Embassy offic ials for help, but they were only able to replace the documentation on Th ursday - forcing Lohan to miss her court date.
The probation hearing went ahead as planned on Thursday, when Lohan’s l awyer Shawn Chapman Holley attempted to explain the passport problem to J udge Revel as the reason for the actress’ absence.
But the judge refused to accept the excuse and she issued the arrest wa rrant within minutes of the hearing starting at 8.30am (local time), repo rts TMZ.com.
Lohan’s bail has been set at $100,000 (=C2=A366,670).
The troubled star is reportedly due to fly back to the U.S. on Friday ( 21May10). She is expected to be taken into custody upon landing in Americ a.

OKEREKE SLAMS BLOC PARTY SPLIT RUMOURS

BLOC PARTY frontman KELE OKEREKE has silenced rumours the band is over - by confirming plans to record a new album.
The singer sparked gossip the Helicopter hitmakers were heading for a b reak-up last year (09) when he admitted they "might never make a record a gain".
The speculation was fuelled when Okereke went on to record a solo album , The Boxer - but he is adamant he has every intention of keeping Bloc Pa rty together.
He tells Britain’s NME magazine, "I used to be in the band, and I will be again. I’m looking forward to seeing the other guys and making music w ith them. I just don’t know when that will be.

Rapper PEEDI CRAKK has risked the wrath of JAY-Z - he’s accused the hip-h op giant of "stealing" ideas from younger artists.
Crakk, real name Pedro Zayas, has blasted the Big Pimpin’ hitmaker for taking "swag" from up and coming rappers, but admits the star is "smooth" when he borrows ideas.
The former State Property crewmember tells XXL magazine, "I want to cla rify that (Jay-Z) doesn’t steal anyone’s songs. He steals swag, ideas, co ncepts, whatever you want to call it. Jay doesn’t just straight-up jack y ou for a song. He’s just smooth with it.
"You ever listen to Young Chris rap and then go back and listen to Jay? You almost start to scratch your head. The old Jay-Z never rapped like t hat. That’s Young Gunners flow to the tee… I don’t understand why Jay d on’t just say that he got the swag from the young bull. Jay has no swag o f his own. He has no natural cool n**ga style."

JONAS BROTHERS TRAPPED IN ELEVATOR

THE JONAS BROTHERS were trapped in an elevator for more than half an hour after performing at a concert in Los Angeles earlier this week (beg17May 10).
The trio performed at a sold-out show at The Grove on Tuesday (18May10) , but their evening turned sour when they stepped into a lift and the car riage became stuck between floors.
Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas then had to climb out of the elevator shaft a fter their security guards managed to open the doors, according to the Ne w York Post’s gossip column PageSix.
A source tells the publication, "For the first 15 minutes they thought it was funny, but after 30 they started to worry. Security guards finally managed to pry open the doors. The elevator was between floors. The brot hers are skinny and easily squeezed out, but it was tougher for their gia nt bodyguard." A representative for the singers confirmed the group was stuck in the e levator, adding, "Everybody got out fine."

COMBS OPENS UP ABOUT WAYNE JAIL VISIT

SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS has opened up about his jail visit to see incarcerated rapper LIL WAYNE - insisting the star "is doing great" behind bars.
Combs was approved by officials to meet with the Lollipop hitmaker - wh o was caged in March (10) after pleading guilty to gun possession charges - for an hour last month (Apr10).
The hip-hop star visited Wayne at Rikers Island prison in New York, and admits he urged the rapper to use his time in prison to make himself a " better person".
Combs tells MTV News, "Wayne is a trooper. Wayne is doing great. It was a personal visit, so I don’t want to get into the details of that. We’re just counting down the days of him getting out. He’s somebody that has b een there for me over the years numerous times.
"I live in New York. It wouldn’t have been right if I didn’t go see him and check on his health and well-being. But the status of where that’s a t, that’s his personal business. I think we gonna miss a certain energy t hat Wayne has.
"The beauty about it is, he’ll be back, and hopefully he’ll come back a better person. Whenever we get in trouble, we’re in the public spotlight .. So hopefully there’s a lot of kids out there who could learn from any m istakes that we may have put ourselves in, even if we’re not guilty of th e crime sometimes."

WHITE STRIPES AUCTION INSTRUMENT FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

The WHITE STRIPES rocker JACK WHITE is auctioning off a musical instrumen t to raise funds for the victims of the recent floods in Nashville, Tenne ssee.
Severe storms hit the city earlier this month (May10) and devastating f loods left much of the state under water, causing almost two dozen people to die and many homes to be destroyed.
Now White has lent his support to the relief efforts by selling off a r ed and white custom-made marimba - a percussion instrument similar to a x ylophone - which was used during the White Stripes’ Get Behind Me Satan t our in 2005.
The instrument was used until 2006 and has been kept in its case ever s ince - and now fans can buy the marimba on auction website eBay.com until bidding ends on 24 May (10), with proceeds going to a charity to benefit Nashville.

KNIGHT ARRESTED AGAIN

Hip-hop mogul MARION ‘SUGE’ KNIGHT is back behind bars after he was arres ted in the early hours of Thursday morning (20May10).
The former Death Row Records boss was reportedly pulled over by cops in his Cadillac Escalade in Los Angeles, and taken into custody.
TMZ.com is reporting Knight was arrested for assault involving a firear m, but there was no official confirmation as WENN went to press.
The website claims he was also taken in for driving with a suspended li cence, while AllHipHop.com reports Knight was wanted by cops for question ing over an alleged assault on rapper Yukmouth in March (10).
The former label boss was previously sentenced to nine years in prison in 1997 on parole violation charges, before being released in 2001. He wa s then imprisoned again in 2003 for violating parole.

PACINO RESEARCHES IN SYNAGOGUE

AL PACINO prepared for his role in an upcoming production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE by visiting a Jewish temple in New York.
The actor is preparing to play Jewish moneylender Shylock in a Public T heater showing of the Shakespeare play this summer (10) and has travelled to Brooklyn to do his research.
He visited a Hasidic synagogue to observe the rituals, and even joined in as the worshippers swayed in prayer, known as shuckling, at the servic e.
Public Theater Initiative Director Barry Edelstein tells The Wall Stree t Journal, "It was done with complete respect and a true sense of empathy .." Pacino, who played Shylock in a 2004 adaptation of the play, also met w ith a member of the Hasidic community at a kosher restaurant in Borough P ark.

JAMES BIDS TO BAN SCANDALS FROM TRIAL

JESSE JAMES has asked a judge to disqualify any references to his scandal ous personal life in an upcoming court case over a clothing contract.
The TV mechanic is currently embroiled in a legal battle with bosses at a U.S. fashion firm, who have accused him of pulling out of a contract t o produce a line of garments inspired by his workwear.
The case is about to go to trial and James wants the matter to be resol ved without inferences to his private life, according to legal documents filed last week (ends16May10).
James’ reputation has taken a hit since his wife Sandra Bullock walked out on him in March (10) after his infidelities were revealed in the pres s. He was further shamed by the release of a controversial picture which showed him posing in a military hat and apparently giving a Nazi salute.
According to TMZ.com, James has asked a Los Angeles County Superior Cou rt judge to disqualify any legal arguments involving his sexual behaviour , Bullock, or one of his alleged mistresses, Michelle ‘Bombshell’ McGee.
He is also seeking to ban the word "Nazi" and the phrase "most hated ma n in America" if used to describe him, as well as the terms monster, skin head, racist, homophobe, prostitute, cheating and cheater.
The Blind Side actress has since filed for divorce and is now living li fe as a single mum after adopting a son named Louis in January (10). Jame s also wants to rule out any discussion of the adoption during the case.
