CATHERINE ZETA-JONES was recognised for her stint on Broadway in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC as she accepted top honours at the Drama Desk Awards in New York on Sunday (23May10).
The actress shared her Best Actress in a Musical title with Memphis sta r Montego Glover at the Drama Desk ceremony, which celebrates both Broadw ay and off-Broadway productions.
The accolade was a boost for Zeta-Jones, who was forced to cancel two p erformances of the show last week (19May10) after falling ill.
New production Memphis was a big winner, landing trophies for Best Musi cal and Best Orchestration, while the show’s writer Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan scooped the Best Music prize.
Actor Liev Schreiber was named Best Actor in a Play for his role in Art hur Miller’s A View From the Bridge, while drama Red was cited as Best Pl ay, according to the Associated Press.
One of the evening’s most poignant moments came when organiser Robert R .. Blume paid tribute to actress Lynn Redgrave, who died earlier this mont h (02May10).
He told the audience, "It’s been a sad moment for the New York theatre world and the Drama Desk. She was a close personal friend and a strong su pporter of theatre and the Drama Desk, one of the great ladies of the the atre."

BRITTANY MURPHY’s widower SIMON MONJACK has been found dead in the Los An geles home he once shared with the tragic actress.
Murphy’s mum Sharon is said to have called emergency services on Sunday night (23May10) after finding the screenwriter unconscious in the master bedroom of the Hollywood Hills property where the Clueless star died in December (09). He is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.
Resuscitation efforts failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene, a ccording to ETOnline.com.
Sergeant Louie Lozano of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) tells the website, "We have detectives at (the) scene. They are conducting the ir investigation." The L.A. coroner ruled in February (10) that Murphy died after from pne umonia, complicated by anaemia and multiple drug intoxication.
She is said to have gone into cardiac arrest at the house she shared wi th Monjack and Sharon, and was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Ce nter in Los Angeles on 20 December (10).

MELISSA ETHERIDGE’s former partner TAMMY LYNN MICHAELS has opened up abou t her heartbreak over the pair’s split, slamming the singer for calling t he break-up "mutual".
The Come To My Window hitmaker announced last month (Apr10) she had sep arated from Michaels - nine years after they exchanged vows in a commitme nt ceremony in California.
Michaels has now accused Etheridge of not being honest about the end of their relationship, after she told Oprah Winfrey last month (Apr10) the separation was "as mutual as those things can be".
And the actress admits she’s hurting because she’s still in love with E theridge.

ROBIN GIBB shocked onlookers at Heathrow Airport in London on Sunday (23M ay10) when he allegedly hurled expletives at staff and refused to board a plane bound for Los Angeles over a security issue.
The Bee Gees star was randomly selected for an extra security check and reportedly fumed at British Airways employees before storming out of the pre-check-in.
A source tells Britain’s The Sun newspaper, "He went absolutely crazy a nd was swearing his head off at the check-in team. It wasn’t their fault - people are selected at random by the computer for extra checks. But he wasn’t having any of it.
"He was told by security to calm down or he would not be able to fly. H e told them to eff off. When it became clear to him he would not board wi thout the extra checks he stormed out. He was spitting feathers and every one in the lounge was horrified".
A spokesperson for British Airways says, "A passenger who was due to fl y to L.A. voluntarily chose not to travel because they did not want to be subjected to additional security searches." It’s not the first time Gibb has fallen foul of airline security staff - in 2008 he missed a flight to Las Vegas after reportedly refusing to le t officials search his bag at a London airport.

METALLICA’s historic festival hook-up with the rest of the ‘Big Four’ met al acts, ANTHRAX, MEGADETH and SLAYER, is to be beamed onto cinema screen s around the world.
The four groups will perform on the same bill for the first time in 25 years this summer (10) and the acts’ 22 June (10) shows in Sofia, Bulgari a will be broadcast live via satellite.
The Big Four dates begin with a festival in Warsaw, Poland on 16 June ( 10).

OZZY OSBOURNE has confirmed new song LATIMER’S MERCY was inspired by a re al-life farmer who killed his suffering daughter in 1993.
At a press conference launching his new album Scream in Canada last wee k (ends21May10), the rocker told gathered reporters that the song chronic les Saskatchewan farmer Robert Latimer’s decision to end his disabled dau ghter’s life.
Latimer was convicted of second-degree murder.

Rocker BRET MICHAELS showed he’s the ultimate survivor when he appeared o n the live finale of U.S. reality TV show THE APPRENTICE on Sunday (23May 10) just days after suffering a minor stroke and overcoming a near-fatal brain haemorrhage - and won the big prize.
Michaels had to briefly pull out of the show when he first fell ill in April (10) and underwent an emergency appendectomy - but that was just th e beginning of the diabetic rocker’s health nightmare.
On 21 April (10), a severe headache sent him to hospital, where medics diagnosed bleeding on the brain.
For five days, the Poison star fought for his life at a hospital in Ari zona, and then, as he was at home recuperating he suffered a mini-stroke.
Last week (ends21May10), he was diagnosed with a hole in the heart.
But, after discharging himself from hospital, he jetted to New York for The Apprentice finale after a final health hiccup - he was forced to mak e a stop over in Nashville, Tennessee after complaining of "a headache, l ower back pain and some cramping in his legs" on the flight.
After medical attention, he reboarded the private jet bound for New Yor k.
The Apprentice host, businessman Donald Trump, had no idea if Michaels would make it to the Big Apple until just hours before the show.
He kicked off the live finale by telling the studio audience and fans a t home, "I’m happy to announce Bret Michaels is here with us tonight." The rock star and actress Holly Robinson Peete beat out 12 other celebr ities, including Sharon Osbourne and Cyndi Lauper, to compete in the fina le.
Reigning Celebrity Apprentice winner Joan Rivers, who was a special gue st on the finale, admitted she was impressed with Michaels’ spirit. She s aid, "Bret, you talk about no sick days… (He had) the determination to come back from death’s door. To say, ‘I’m gonna be here and this is where I have to be…’ I find this extraordinary." The rocker gingerly hobbled onto the show’s live stage to hugs from his fellow contestants and a standing ovation from the studio audience, and revealed his doctors didn’t want him to be on the show.
He joked, "Lately, it seems that me just standing up is risking my life …. It’s been crazy for about a month and a half. I thought I was healthy …. It’s been a risk, but I wanted to be here tonight." The rocker won $250,000 (=C2=A3156,250) for his diabetes charity from b everage company Snapple.

Actor JUSTIN BARTHA is refusing to let a recent air scare keep him ground ed, insisting he’s ready to take to the skies again just days after a ter rifying airborne emergency.

JACK BLACK has marked the one-week anniversary of RONNIE JAMES DIO’s deat h by paying tribute to his rock idol.
The funnyman reveals Dio was among the inspirations behind his rock act Tenacious D, and he once teamed up with the former Black Sabbath and Rai nbow star on film, in the video for Dio’s Push.
In a statement written for Time magazine, Black reveals, "Dio has alway s been my favorite heavy-metal vocalist. Not just for his musical chops b ut also for the passion he poured into every performance. His use of beau tifully haunting melodies leading to volcanic eruptions of raw rock power led to some of the great anthems of the genre.
"When Dio… performed live, he would stalk the stage like a dragon sla yer. His commitment and theatricality were spellbinding. As a teenager I was profoundly moved by the life-affirming fire of his songs. They were f illed with glory. They made me want to climb mountains and battle demons.
"To listen to Dio is to be transported to an ancient time of mystery an d joy. His songs were an escape for millions of kids looking for release from the usual bull found on the FM dial.

SLASH has fired off at former bandmate AXL ROSE after the rocker accused music mogul IRVING AZOFF of attempting to "sabotage" the new-look GUNS N’ ROSES, so the singer would reunite the classic line-up.
The guitarist admits Rose’s $5 million (=C2=A33.1 million) legal battle with his former svengali has left him lost for words.
In his suit, Rose accuses Azoff and Front Line Management officials of "devising a secret plan to set up Rose and the band for failure so that R ose would have no choice but to reunite with the original Guns N’ Roses’ members." French star JOHNNY HALLYDAY is undergoing medical tests in a bid to deter mine whether he was the victim of a "botched" operation that landed him i n hospital with a severe infection.
The singer left a Los Angeles medical centre in December (09) following corrective surgery on his back to repair damage allegedly caused by a pr ocedure to correct a herniated disc in Paris in November (09).
Following the operation the singer claimed he "came very close to death ".
An infection specialist and neurosurgeon will study Hallyday’s medical records before making a decision in the case against Stephane Delajoux, w ho performed the initial operation.
And now Hallyday, whose hospitalisation resulted in the cancellation of the remainder of his Route 66 tour earlier this year (10), has flown hom e to France to undergo tests to help determine if Delajoux was at fault.
