SPACEY ‘THRILLED’ BY MCCARTNEY BENEFIT CONCERT

KEVIN SPACEY is set to team up with SIR PAUL McCARTNEY to help save the r oof of his London theatre - the former BEATLE has agreed to perform a ben efit concert to raise funds.
The Hollywood actor is the artistic director of the Old Vic theatre com pany, based in a venue of the same name in south London.
The theatre’s roof has leaked since it was damaged by bombing raids dur ing World War II, and Spacey has been campaigning for funding to have the problem fixed.
Spacey he has now recruited McCartney to play a one-off benefit show to help raise money, and he’s delighted the musician agreed to perform at t he event, which will also include an art auction.
He says, "We are thrilled Paul McCartney will lend his extraordinary ta lents on the evening alongside brilliant artists who’ve generously donate d their artworks for auction. It’s set to be quite a night." The concert will take place at The Boiler House at Battersea Power Stat ion and guests will be able to buy tickets starting from $750 (=C2=A3500) up to $15,000 (=C2=A310,000) for a premium table for 10.
Some of the proceeds raised on the night will also go towards McCartney ’s Meat Free Monday campaign, which encourages meat-eaters to go vegetari an for one day a week.

BULLOCK ‘PROUD’ OF JAMES’ REHAB DECISION

SANDRA BULLOCK was "proud" of her estranged husband JESSE JAMES for seeki ng treatment for his infidelity issues after his cheating ways were expos ed in the press.
The Hollywood star walked out on James in March (10) after news of his affairs hit the headlines, and the TV mechanic later checked into a rehab facility to deal with "personal issues".
Bullock subsequently filed for divorce, but James reveals the actress w as pleased to see him tackle his problems and agreed to continue looking after his six-year-old daughter Sunny while he was in rehab.
In his first interview since the scandal broke, James tells newswoman V icki Mabrey, "I told her everything, that I had affairs outside of our ma rriage. I think she’s had suspicions in the past but I lied my way out of it - I lied to everyone; I lied to myself.
"I just told her I was going to get some help and I wanted to make sure she would take care of Sunny. (She said), ‘No problem, OK.’ She told me she was proud of me." The former couple won custody of Sunny last year (09) when the girl’s m other, porn star Janine Lindemulder, was jailed for tax evasion.
Lindemulder, James’ second wife, recently reopened the case to fight fo r shared custody.
James’ candid chat will air on U.S. news show Nightline on Tuesday (25M ay10).

PANAHI RELEASED FROM PRISON

Iranian director JAFAR PANAHI has been released from prison after spendin g more than two months behind bars.
The filmmaker has walked free from Tehran’s Evin jail on $200,000 (=C2=A3 133,000) bail just weeks after a group of Hollywood stars including Rober t De Niro, Robert Redford and Steven Spielberg signed an open letter to g overnment officials demanding his release.
Panahi, a vocal supporter of the country’s opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi, was imprisoned in March (10) following a police raid on his hom e in Tehran. His arrest has been linked to his decision to back Mousavi i n the contested 2009 election.
According to the IRNA news agency, Panahi’s case will be reviewed by a revolutionary court and he may still face trial.
Panahi embarked on a hunger strike last week (ends23May10) to protest h is detention.

JAMES: ‘I’M NOT RACIST’

SANDRA BULLOCK’s estranged husband JESSE JAMES decided to break his silen ce over his cheating scandal in an attempt to clear up his reputation and defend himself against allegations he’s "racist".
The Blind Side star walked out on James in March (10) after he was reve aled to have cheated on the actress with a string of women.
He was further disgraced when a controversial picture was published, sh owing him wearing a military hat and giving a Nazi salute. He was also se en holding two fingers up to his top lip in a reference to Nazi leader Ad olf Hitler’s moustache.
Bullock later admitted she was deeply "shocked" and "sad" to see the "s tupid, ignorant" photo, adding: "This is not the man I married… Racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia, anything Nazi and a boatload of other things have no place in my life. And the man I married felt the same." Now James is attempting to clear his name by insisting he regrets posin g for the picture because it was intended as a "joke" that is no longer f unny - although he has no recollection of the shoot.
In an interview with U.S. newswoman Vicki Mabrey, he says, "I think out of everything, this is why I’m doing this interview the most, dealing wi th losing my marriage… and embarrassing everyone and decimating my life , but to be called a racist on top of that…
"It makes me really sad seeing the photo and the way I look… I don’t even remember taking the photo but I can tell the look on my face, it was a joke that was funny then, just for a minute, but then looking at it in the context of now, my life, it’s not funny." HILTON SNUBBED TEMPAH AFTER PARTY INVITE

British rap newcomer TINIE TEMPAH was left disappointed after he was book ed to perform for PARIS HILTON at a lavish party earlier this month (May1 0) - because the socialite left before he arrived at the venue.
The hotel heiress was the guest of honour at the event in Cannes, Franc e, which was thrown by bosses at London nightclub Jalouse and online gamb ling giant PowerPoker, and the Push Out hitmaker was invited to play for the exclusive crowd.
The rapper jetted in from Scotland after supporting Rihanna on her U.K.
tour - but he was stunned when Hilton didn’t hang around to catch his pe rformance.
He tells Britain’s Daily Mirror, "Paris left by the time I got there. I was honoured that she wanted me to do it. It was glitz and glamour defin ed."

BARBA POSTPONES BENEFIT GIG

Pop star REYLI BARBA has postponed a benefit concert in his native Mexico amid concerns over a recent outbreak of violence.
The former Elefante frontman was scheduled to sing at a special show to help raise funds to build a school in the poverty-stricken area of Chiap as.
But the singer has called off the event in Monterrey, following a surge in violence between drug gangs in the city.
A statement from Barba’s representatives blames the postponement on "th e climate of lack of safety that has occurred in recent weeks in the city of Monterrey." A number of Mexican stars have recently called off gigs in the country over security concerns, reports the Associated Press. Five people died at a concert near Monterrey earlier this month (May10) after gunshots cause d a panicked stampede.

RICKY ROSS WANTS NAME BACK FROM RAPPER ROSS

RICK ROSS is facing possible legal action from former drug trafficker RIC KY ROSS, who has accused the rapper of exploiting his name to forge a car eer in hip-hop.
The rap star - born William Leonard Roberts II - is said to have adopte d his stage name from the former cocaine kingpin, who became infamous for running a drug empire in Los Angeles in the 1980s.
The ex-convict claims his lawyers sent cease-and-desist letters to exec utives at music label Def Jam in 2006, after they signed Roberts, to prot est "the exploitation and misuse of his name".
He maintains he received no response from music bosses and claims the s tar went on to profit from the moniker "without his consent".
But now Ross, who was released from prison last year (09), wants sole r ights to his name - and he’s threatened to use "any means necessary" to r egain control.
A statement from his camp, issued to BallerStatus.com, reads: "It’s no secret that the boss at FreewayEnterprise.com is unhappy with how his nam e has been exploited and misused since he went to prison in 1995, and in 2006, the above-named parties signed (William L. Roberts II) to a big rec ord deal and then spent, and made, millions off Ross’ name." Ross was sentenced to life imprisonment but his jail time was reduced a fter a series of appeals.

BONO URGED KEYS TO USE FAME FOR GOOD

ALICIA KEYS was inspired to launch her own charity after U2 frontman BONO urged the singer to put her fame to good use.
The Fallin’ hitmaker is a prominent campaigner against the spread of AI DS in Africa and has launched her own charity, Keep a Child Alive.
And the musician reveals it was Irish superstar Bono’s advice that prom pted her passion for philanthropy - he told her that fame is a "currency" which needs to be spent well.
She tells Britain’s Daily Mail, "(Fame’s) a currency - you must use it well or lose it. Bono told me that, and I totally agree. Now I’ve achieve d a certain level of fame I know I must make good use of it, especially a s I’ve been around the world and know suffering in a way I didn’t before.
"That’s why I launched my charity Keep A Child Alive. I was so moved to meet people in Africa who have so little and yet are so generous, people who’ve been to hell and back but retain their dignity and are fighting f or their dreams. The charity gives people the chance to chase those dream s." Bono also heads four non-profit organisations which help raise funds to provide aid for impoverished families in African countries. GAGA DISMISSES EATING DISORDER RUMOURS

LADY GAGA has dismissed rumours she’s suffering from an eating disorder - putting her recent weight loss down to her busy schedule.
The singer has sparked fears for her health in recent months after a st ring of problems during her Monster Ball tour, including passing out on s tage in New Zealand and cancelling shows after she was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat in January (10).
And Gaga’s increasingly slender frame led to concerns she is in the gri p of an eating disorder, but the Poker Face hitmaker is adamant she doesn ‘t have a problem with food - she just can’t find time to sit down for pr oper meals.

NAS & KELIS END MARRIAGE BATTLE

NAS and KELIS’ marriage is officially over - the former couple has been g ranted a divorce.
The hip-hop supercouple split in April, 2009 after four years of marria ge, with Kelis citing irreconcilable differences in her divorce papers, w hich were filed just months before she gave birth to the pair’s baby son Knight.
The pair has been locked in legal wrangling ever since over various iss ues including custody of their son, as well as spousal and child support payments.
Legal documents filed at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday (2 1May10) reveal their marriage is now officially over. However the former couple will continue to battle it out over the details of their divorce d eal, according to TMZ.com.

TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR GRAY

Rock bands including KORN, PAPA ROACH and SEPULTURA have paid tribute to tragic SLIPKNOT bassist PAUL GRAY.
The star, whose wife Brenna is expecting their first child later this y ear (10), was found dead at a hotel in Urbandale, Iowa on Monday morning (24May10). The cause of death is still under investigation but cops have found no evidence of foul play.
Following the news of the tragedy, several bands including pop punks Go od Charlotte have spoken out to pay their respects to Gray.
Korn guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer says, "I want to send my love to h is family and the band, they’re going through a really very hard time rig ht now. I’m speechless, I just want to send my prayers, love and respect to everybody that is surrounding his wife and his baby to be." Papa Roach singer Jacoby Shaddix says, "(Paul) was an awesome person on and off stage. He will be missed by many including myself. His spirit wi ll live on through the killer music he wrote." In a joint statement, Sepultura members Paulo Pinto Jr., Andreas Kisser , Derrick Green and Jean Dolabella, wrote: "RIP Paul Gray, we’re shocked and very sad. The creepy house which inspired 1979 movie THE AMITYVILLE HORROR is up fo r sale.
The five-bedroom property, situated in Long Island, New York, was the s cene of a grisly multiple murder in 1974 which saw six members of the DeF eo family killed as they slept. Eldest son Ronald DeFeo, Jr. was later co nvicted of the killings.
The film, starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder, was based on the sto ry of a family who moved into the house after the murders, and went on to allegedly witness paranormal activities.

HENRY: ‘WORK’S HELPED ME THROUGH SPLIT’

British funnyman LENNY HENRY has credited his working life with helping h im through his split from DAWN FRENCH.

STREETDANCE WALKS OVER PRINCE OF PERSIA AT U.K. BOX OFFICE

British dance movie STREETDANCE 3D has trounced Hollywood blockbuster PRI NCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME in the battle of the U.K. box office.
The film, which features several acts from Simon Cowell’s Britain’s Got Talent TV show, including George Sampson and Diversity, tells the story of a London dance troupe who team up with ballet students for a competiti on.
The feel-good film easily beat Jake Gyllenhaal’s big budget action movi e over the weekend (22-23May10) to land the top spot in Britain’s box off ice chart, taking $3.74 million (=C2=A32.49 million).
James Richardson, producer and co-owner of Vertigo Films, the company b ehind the dance film, says, "The success of StreetDance 3D has far exceed ed our expectations. TARANTINO SET FOR FRIARS CLUB ‘ROAST’

QUENTIN TARANTINO is set to follow in the footsteps of stars including CH EVY CHASE, RICHARD PRYOR and BRUCE WILLIS with an induction into New York ’s legendary Friars Club.
The Pulp Fiction director will be the focus of the organisation’s annua l ‘roast’ later this year (10), which sees honourees ridiculed in mocking tributes.

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN SPORTS STAR DIES

A star female baseball player who inspired the 1992 movie A LEAGUE OF THE IR OWN has died.
Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Kamenshek passed away of natural causes at her home in Palm Desert, California, on 17 May (10). She was 84.
Infielder Kamenshek was a member of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, playing for Illinois’ Rockford Peaches from 1943 to 195 2.
She served as the basis for the character Dottie Hinson, played by actr ess Geena Davis, in the 1992 comedy about professional women’s baseball i n the 1940s.

MYERS ‘EMBROILED IN PHOTOGRAPHER FIGHT’

MIKE MYERS was caught up in trouble on the streets of New York on Monday (24May10) - one of his friends was arrested for allegedly hitting a photo grapher with a hockey stick as he attempted to take pictures of the star.
The snapper was photographing the Shrek actor in Manhattan as he walked along a street with his friend Mark McAdam, with both men carrying hocke y sticks.
The photographer alleges McAdam, 40, turned on him and hit him on the h ead with his stick, while Myers fled the scene. He claims to have needed five stitches to treat a wound above his right eye.
McAdam was arrested on charges of felony assault, according to the New York Daily News.
