CATTRALL: ‘LOS ANGELES IS CRUEL TO OLDER WOMEN’

KIM CATTRALL is relieved she moved to New York when SEX AND THE CITY beca me a hit, insisting Hollywood is a "brutal" place for older actresses to live.
The 53-year-old actress swapped Los Angeles for the Big Apple in 1998 a fter she landed the role of Samantha Jones on the saucy series, which fil med in Manhattan.
And she has never regretted the decision, admitting she felt criticised for her age while living on America’s west coast.
She tells British magazine Reveal, "Living alone in Los Angeles can be brutal for women. There’s a lot of abuse, in the sense that Hollywood is run for the young and beautiful. The only thing that is respected over th e age of 40 is success. If you miss the boat - as I was doing - then door s close and you are out in the cold."

FEY TO RECEIVE TOP U.S. COMEDY AWARD

TINA FEY will make history by becoming the youngest recipient of the pres tigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor later this year (10).
The Date Night star, 40, has been chosen by officials at Washington, D.
C.’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as the 2010 honouree.
The award is primarily in recognition of her work as a writer and comed ian on hit U.S. sketch show Saturday Night Live, where she famously mimic ked former U.S. vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin during the 2008 e lections.
Mark Krantz, executive producer of the Mark Twain award, says, "It’s th at job as a head writer on a show that’s been a traditionally male-orient ed show. (She) kind of broke the ceiling for many, many women in comedy." Poking fun at veteran Golden Girls star and recent SNL guest host Betty White, Fey says, "I am truly thrilled to receive this honour. I assume B etty White was disqualified for steroid use." Fey also gained critical acclaim for her work on TV comedy 30 Rock and wrote the screenplay for Lindsay Lohan’s hit film Mean Girls.
She will be presented with the accolade on 9 November (10) at a ceremon y in Washington, D.C., when she will join the ranks of previous recipient s Bill Cosby and Steve Martin.

JAMES: ‘ADOPTION HELPED RELATIONSHIP BLOSSOM’

JESSE JAMES felt closer than ever to SANDRA BULLOCK after the adoption of their baby son LOUIS and he’s "sad" to see her experience parenthood as a single mum.
Little Louis joined Bullock and James’ family in January (10) but the a doption was kept a secret for months, even during the couple’s split afte r the TV mechanic’s affairs were exposed in the press.
Bullock went public with her baby joy in a People magazine exclusive in April (10), and now James reveals the former couple only had one major r equirement when they were looking for a kid to adopt - and New Orleans, L ouisiana, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, was the perf ect place.
He tells U.S. newswoman Vicki Mabrey, "We found out around Christmas ti me and we got him on New Year’s Day. I didn’t care what colour he was. My only prerequisite for adopting a baby, I want a baby who needs us the mo st." James admits the adoption brought new life to their marriage, just days before his cheating scandal hit the headlines: "I found a new trust for her, like I knew she wasn’t going to leave, and our relationship blossome d." And James admits he was "sad" to see the magazine cover of Bullock enjo ying life as a single mum because he had taken part in the photoshoot jus t days before the actress walked out on him.
He says, "It made me sad, but I realise why things have to be done in a certain way. To see her in the role of mother is like one of the most am azing things I’ve ever seen. I mean, she is like a fish to water, as soon as she put that baby in her hands, it was automatic and amazing." HASSELHOFF HAS ‘NO IDEA’ ABOUT HOSPITAL REPORTS

Former BAYWATCH star DAVID HASSELHOFF is baffled by reports he was hospit alised for alcohol poisoning at the weekend (22-23May10), insisting he is "feeling good".
The actor has been battling a drink problem for years and new reports s uggested his 17-year-old daughter Hayley took him to a Los Angeles-area h ospital on Sunday (23May10) after a three-day booze binge.
But Hasselhoff has dismissed the claims, telling TMZ.com there has been "no drinking" and insisting he is "looking good (and) feeling good".
The star underwent a stint in rehab last October (09) to deal with his alcohol issues.

TORN’S LAWYERS NEGOTIATING PLEA BARGAIN

Veteran actor RIP TORN’s lawyers are negotiating a plea deal with prosecu tors to put an end to his legal woes after he was caught breaking into a Connecticut bank in January (10).
The Men In Black star was found sprawled on the floor of the Litchfield Bancorp building in his hometown of Salisbury late at night, clutching a loaded revolver while reportedly drunk. He told cops he thought the buil ding was his home.
The 79 year old, real name Elmore Rual Torn, was arrested and charged w ith a string of offences, including carrying a pistol without a permit, c arrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree criminal mischief.
He checked himself into a rehabilitation facility in New York after bei ng released on bail and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
On Tuesday (25May10), Torn returned to Litchfield Superior Court, where his attorney, A. Thomas Waterfall, reminded the court that Torn had volu ntarily undergone a stint in rehab and had completed court-ordered alcoho l education classes stemming from a previous 2008 arrest.
Waterfall also revealed the actor had disposed of all his weapons.
The presiding judge decided to continue proceedings on 4 June (10) to a llow both sides extra time to negotiate a plea bargain - a deal that Wate rfall hopes will keep the star out of jail.
Torn’s 2008 charge for driving under the influence was dismissed on Mon day (24May10) after the actor satisfied a judge by completing an alcohol awareness course.

MCCREADY HOSPITALISED WITH SUSPECTED OVERDOSE

Country star MINDY MCCREADY has been hospitalised in Florida after suffer ing a suspected drug overdose.
The singer, who has a history of alcohol and drug abuse, was found pass ed out at her mother Gayle’s home in North Fort Myers on Tuesday morning (25May10), according to reports.
Paramedics were called to the property and transported her to Cape Cora l Hospital.
Sources claim McCready had taken a muscle relaxant and the painkiller D arvocet.
Her condition was unknown as WENN went to press.
McCready’s hospitalisation comes just days after she won a court judgem ent to reopen custody proceedings in the hope of being reunited with her four-year-old son Zander.
She lost custody of the boy in 2007 after she was jailed for violating probation by allegedly assaulting her mum in a fight over the singer’s dr inking and drug addictions.

LOTT REPLACES SPEARS IN SWEET BABY JESUS

British pop star PIXIE LOTT has landed her first major movie role - repla cing BRITNEY SPEARS in SWEET BABY JESUS, a modern retelling of the Nativi ty story.
The Toxic hitmaker had been due to play the Virgin Mary in the new film , but walked away from the role with producers citing pressure from her f amily as her reason for quitting the project.
Movie bosses have now cast 19-year-old Brit Lott in the role, opposite Sam Rockwell, Bette Midler and Kim Cattrall, who have all been linked to parts in the comedy, according to Deadline.com.
Garfield director Peter Hewitt will helm the movie, which is due to beg in filming in Maryland and Ireland later this year (10).

KEYS ‘BURNED DOWN’ DRESSING ROOM

ALICIA KEYS was once left terrified after a blaze broke out in her dressi ng room - because her "biggest fear" is fire.
The Fallin’ hitmaker was horrified to discover she had accidentally lef t a candle burning in her backstage changing area, which set the whole ro om alight.
Now Keys is extra cautious with her candles - because the incident was a nightmare for the singer.
She tells Britain’s Live magazine, "I once burned down my dressing room .. My biggest fear is fire but I love candles and incense. One day on tour we had left the dressing room and when we came back, one of the candles had set light to a piece of make-up paper and it just lit up the room. Ne edless to say, I let out a pretty big scream."

BON JOVI QUITS SMOKING TO SAVE MONEY

Rocker JON BON JOVI has given up cigarettes - because he refuses to pay t he huge insurance premiums needed to cover a smoker.
The Livin’ On A Prayer hitmaker picked up the habit while filming 1994 movie Moonlight and Valentino, but finally decided to turn his back on to bacco after trying to buy life insurance - and realising he was paying ov er-the-odds due to his love of cigarettes.
He tells Q magazine, "I swore off them before the tour and I’m happy to say that I haven’t picked them up again.
"(I quit because of) the cold hard truth. I tried to get life insurance and the price with smoking was so ridiculous it was enough to p**s you o ff and just throw them in the garbage. So it was cold f**king turkey." (M

BECKHAM: ‘OUR MARRIAGE IS NOT A SHAM’

VICTORIA BECKHAM has spoken out to address rumours her marriage to soccer star DAVID never recovered from an affair allegation in 2004 - insisting their union is "absolutely not a business arrangement".
The former Spice Girl wed the sportsman in 1999, but five years later t he union was allegedly rocked after the Los Angeles Galaxy player was acc used of having a four-month romance with his personal assistant Rebecca L oos.
Beckham branded the allegation "ludicrous" and the couple appeared to p ut the scandal behind them, but online gossips have long speculated they only kept their marriage intact for the sake of their three children and their business empire.
But Victoria is adamant she never believed the allegation and has never let the lurid tales affect their relationship.
She tells Britain’s OK! magazine, "I know David has never cheated on me .. I really do believe deep down that I have the most faithful husband I c ould hope for. I can honestly say I am really lucky to have him. I couldn ‘t live a lie and it would be unfair on the children. We are working on t hings together but our marriage is absolutely not a business arrangement.

U2 CANCEL TOUR AND GLASTONBURY GIG

Irish rocker BONO is "heartbroken" after U2 were forced to postpone their entire North American tour and cancel their appearance at legendary Brit ish music festival Glastonbury following his emergency back surgery.
The 50-year-old singer was admitted to a specialist neurosurgery unit a t a hospital in Germany on Friday (21May10) after suffering "severe pain" and "partial paralysis" during rehearsals for their 360 Degree world tou r in Munich.
Bono underwent an operation immediately and neurosurgeon Joerg Tonn, wh o treated the star, is convinced he will make a full recovery - but will need at least two months rest.
Dr. Tonn says, "He was already in severe pain with partial paralysis of the lower leg. The surgery was the only course of treatment for full rec overy and to avoid further paralysis. Bono is now much better with comple te recovery of his motor-deficit. His prognosis is excellent but to obtai n a sustainable result he must now enter a period of rehabilitation." The band has now postponed all their gigs in the U.S. and Canada, which were scheduled for June (10) and July (10), and they are working with pr omoters to reschedule the dates.
They have also been forced to cancel their prestigious headlining appea rance at Glastonbury on 25 June (10), and Bono admits he is devastated to let his fans down.
He says, "I’m heartbroken. We really wanted to be there to do something really special." U2’s manager, Paul McGuinness, adds, "Our biggest and I believe best to ur has been interrupted and we’re all devastated. For a performer who liv es to be on stage, this is more than a blow.
"He feels robbed of the chance to do what he does best and feels like h e has badly let down the band and their audience. Which is of course nons ense. His concerns about more than a million ticket buyers whose plans ha ve been turned upside down, we all share, but the most important thing ri ght now is that Bono make (sic) a full recovery. We’re working as fast as we can with Live Nation to reschedule these dates."

KARDASHIAN: ‘I’VE TRIED BOTOX’

KIM KARDASHIAN has smoothed out her skin with Botox injections - even tho ugh she’s only 29.
The socialite has dismissed repeated rumours she’s had surgery on her n ose, but admits she has tried the wrinkle-freezing jabs in a bid to retai n her youthful looks.
She tells E! Online, "I’m totally not against plastic surgery. I’ve tri ed Botox before. That’s the only thing that I’ve done. I’ve never had my nose done." But Kardashian reveals she did once contemplate a rhinoplasty - and eve n approached a doctor to discuss the procedure.
She adds, "What’s funny about my nose, it’s my biggest insecurity. I al ways want to get my nose done… I went to the doctor, I had them take th e pictures, he showed me what it would look like and it just didn’t (look right) - I wouldn’t look the same."

WINSTONE SPEAKS OUT FOR STUNT PERFORMERS

British actor RAY WINSTONE is campaigning to increase the rights of injur ed stunt performers, calling them the "unsung heroes" of the film industr y.
The Beowulf star is raising money for the Eddie Kidd Foundation, which aims to help rehabilitate hurt body doubles and was named after the movie stand-in who was left with brain damage after a motorcycle crash in 1996 ..
Winstone admits he had forgotten about Kidd until he saw him in a wheel chair at a party recently - but he hopes to help other industry workers w ho need treatment and therapies.
He tells Britain’s HELLO! magazine, "With about 24 stunt performers inj ured every year, it’s important to get the message out that, once injured , they are no longer able to earn a living from their chosen profession. They may not be able to earn a living at all.
"Do I think they should get more recognition outside the film industry? Yes, of course I do. We actors take the applause while the stunt perform ers just get on with their jobs. The only difference between them and guy s like me is that they’re on the physical side of it and I read poems! "Stunt performers are unsung heroes, and Eddie is carrying the flag for them."

SCORSESE WANTS PACINO AND DE NIRO FOR SINATRA MOVIE

MARTIN SCORSESE is hoping to sign up AL PACINO to play FRANK SINATRAin hi s upcoming biopic - and the director wants ROBERT DE NIRO to co-star as D EAN MARTIN.
The Raging Bull filmmaker is set to bring Ol’ Blue Eyes’ life story to the big screen in forthcoming film Sinatra - and a string of high-profile actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio, have been linked to the lead role.
Scorsese has now admitted his first choice for the part is Pacino and h e would ideally like to reunite the actor with his The Godfather Part II co-star De Niro as Rat Pack singer Martin.
He tells Hindu.com, "I’ve had it in mind for a long time. Even the init ial script is ready. I’m yet to spot the actor who can bring back Frank S inatra alive on screen. My choice is Al Pacino, and Robert De Niro as Dea n Martin."

SUTHERLAND SEES BIRTHPLACE WRECKED

KIEFER SUTHERLAND was lucky to catch a glimpse of the London hospital whe re he was born - because the facility was demolished on the day he visite d.
The 24 star was born in the British capital in 1966 at St Mary’s Hospit al, which was destroyed earlier this year (10) after the wards moved to a new building nearby.
And when Sutherland finally got round to organising a trip his birthpla ce, he was stunned to see the hospital demolished as he watched.
He tells Britain’s Nuts magazine, "My mother and father both went to sc hool here (U.K.). I met a friend in London recently and I wanted to show him St Mary’s Hospital in West London where I was born… St Mary’s Hospi tal moved across the street.
"We got there and I went, ‘My gosh, that’s where I was born.’ It was th e first time I’d seen it since December 21st 1966. Then a wrecking ball c ame from out of nowhere and took out the wall. The timing was unbelievabl e."

LUCAS AWARDED DAMAGES

British comic MATT LUCAS has been awarded damages from bosses at a U.K. n ewspaper over an article published in the wake of his ex-husband’s sudden death last year (09).
The Little Britain star was devastated when his former partner, Kevin M cGee, was found hanged at his Edinburgh, Scotland apartment in October (0 9). The couple tied the knot in a civil partnership in 2006 before partin g ways in 2008.
Lucas later filed suit against the Daily Star after the newspaper publi shed an article which included false claims suggesting he had been placed on suicide watch following the tragedy, and a later piece which speculat ed about the end of their marriage.
During a hearing at London’s High Court on Tuesday (25May10), Lucas was awarded undisclosed damages and newspaper bosses have apologised and agr eed to pay the star’s legal costs.
A statement from Lucas reads, "My deep pain and sorrow have been made e ven greater by the intrusive and defamatory stories made about my private life in the Daily Star just hours after Kevin’s death. I had no choice b ut to bring these proceedings to protect my private life and my right to grieve in peace. I am just relieved that this case has been resolved and I sincerely hope this sort of intrusive reporting will now end." (LR/WNWC

GERVAIS CLEARS UP BOYLE JOKE CONFUSION

RICKY GERVAIS has moved swiftly to quash criticism of a controversial jok e about SUSAN BOYLE in his stand-up comedy show.
The Office creator sparked fury after using the word "mong" - a British saying often used as a derogatory term for sufferers of Down’s Syndrome - in a joke about Boyle.
Officials at the U.K.’s Down’s Syndrome Association contacted the comed ian after receiving a "report" about the show - and Gervais immediately w rote back to explain the word was not meant to be offensive in the contex t of the routine.
And he’s now taken to his official blog to show fans how the potential scandal was smoothed over as soon as he reached out to the association.
Gervais writes, "The DSA contacted my PR on the 6th of May explaining t hey had had a report about my routine about Susan Boyle and voiced their obvious concerns. I sent them an email (in which I wrote) ‘I clearly expl ain that words change and that at no point am I referring to anyone with Down’s Syndrome. Not only am I not referring to people with Down’s Syndro me I also explain that I am not associating the word with its old derogat ory meaning. I also do it as part of a routine about comedians taking res ponsibility for everything they say. I hope this is acceptable.’" And Gervais’ quick response was well received by the association’s boss es - they wrote back: "Fully explained and acceptable reply. Please exten d our thanks to Ricky for the prompt reply."
