JASON MRAZ has opened up about his personal experiences with bullying, ad mitting he was teased and beaten in high school.
The singer’s school years were made miserable by a group of boys who pi cked on him for no apparent reason - and he still hasn’t forgotten the pa in they caused him.
In a post on his MySpace blog, the singer recalls, "When I was in high school, I experienced being bullied. For whatever reason, there were a fe w students that enjoyed calling me ‘f**got’ as I walked thru (through) th e lunchroom. On one occasion, just before graduation, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and picked up a few punches, kicks and scrapes to add to my story. I never knew why the handsome lads called me names or f elt the need to bully me, but it happened and I let their actions contrib ute a great deal to my moving away from that community." Now the I’m Yours hitmaker is speaking out against bullying as part of his fight for gay rights, inspired by his best pal who braved the torment ors in their hometown by ‘coming out’ as a homosexual.
He adds, "Shortly after the row, my best friend came out, sharing with his friends and family that he was gay. In my small town, this was uncomm on and since then I’ve considered my friend to be the bravest man in the world. Aware of the hate within our community, I was afraid my friend mig ht be inviting trouble to his door - but that never stopped him from bein g fully expressed.
"This is why I am actively seeking equality for the whole. When all of us are acknowledged as the human equals that we really are, there will be no space left for bullying. It will no longer be wrong to choose one thi ng over another. Equality and separation cannot exist in the same space."

Former SIMPLY RED star MICK HUCKNALL has been confirmed as ROD STEWART’s replacement in newly-reunited supergroup THE FACES.
Ronnie Wood, Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan re-teamed with former frontma n Stewart for rehearsals in late 2008 with a view to touring together in 2009 - but their schedules clashed and the Baby Jane singer was forced to quit.
Speculation mounted that Hucknall would replace Stewart when he joined the band as a guest for a concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall in Octobe r (09).
Now Wood has confirmed Hucknall will be their new singer - and they cho se the rocker because his voice sounds like Stewart’s at the height of hi s success in the 1970s.
He says, "What we loved about Mick Hucknall was his voice range was jus t like Rod’s in the Seventies… It’s exciting to be on this path again. I hope Faces fans are as excited as we are." The reformed band is due to perform at the Vintage At Goodwood Festival in West Sussex, south England in August (10). They then plan to head out on a world tour, starting early next year (11).

SIMON COWELL can’t wait to leave AMERICAN IDOL - he’s compared his immine nt exit to the final few weeks of school.
The music mogul will depart the talent show’s panel after the current s eason to focus on taking his U.K. series The X Factor to the U.S. next ye ar (11).
And although Cowell recognises the show transformed his career, he admi ts he is excited about working on new projects.
He tells his fellow Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres on her TV chat show, "I am feeling a bit sad because we’re nearly there, but at the same time… do you remember, sort of, those last three weeks when you were leaving sc hool and you kind of couldn’t wait to get out? "It’s a little bit like that. It’s kind of exciting. I’m not being ungr ateful. I am feeling a bit sad because I’ve had a fantastic time and the show changed my life but I just kind of knew it was time to do something different."

CHRISTINA AGUILERA has asked fans to become familiar with her new music b efore she heads out on tour - days after axing the trek=20 to give her more time to rehearse.
The singer has postponed her U.S. jaunt, which was due to begin in July (10), until 2011 to allow her more time to prepare - and she wants her l oyal followers to get acquainted with her new album Bionic after it hits shelves next month (Jun10).
In a post on her official website, Aguilera explains, "I made the decis ion to move my summer tour and I am truly sorry to those of you who had p urchased tickets and have been disappointed by the news.
"My album has not even been released as yet and I would like for you al l to become familiar with the music before you hear it live on tour. Agai n, I am sorry to have to move the dates but I promise to come see you whe n the time is right!"

AARON CARTER is pleased LINDSAY LOHAN has been strapped with an alcohol-m onitoring ankle bracelet, insisting his ex-girlfriend "deserves" the puni shment.
The Mean Girls star has been forbidden from leaving California and must now wear the device, which alerts authorities if she consumes booze, aft er a judge ordered her to refrain from drinking or taking illegal drugs f or the foreseeable future.
The sentencing stems from a 2007 arrest during a turbulent period of th e actress’ life which saw her detained several times on driving under the influence charges and accused of taking three men hostage during a drunk en drive through Malibu, California.
And pop star Carter, who dated Lohan in 2002, wholeheartedly approves o f the judge’s ruling, insisting "an example" should be made of his former lover.
He tells OKMagazine.com, "It hurts me to see that. I hope she can reall y learn something from this. They are going to make an example of you now , Lindsay, and you deserve it.
"You don’t get in the car with two people and go chasing after your ass istant going a hundred miles an hour down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway)." And Carter - younger brother of Backstreet Boys star Nick - has also vo iced his support for Lohan’s estranged dad Michael, branding him a "very good man".
He adds, "Michael Lohan is a very good man. He was thrown under the bus very bad by that family. It takes a man to keep a family strong sometime s. I would go and find her dad. I wouldn’t even care about finding her mo ther."

U2 rocker THE EDGE is relieved his bandmate BONO consulted doctors about his back injury - because if the singer had left it any longer he would h ave suffered "serious and permanent damage".
The band’s frontman was admitted to a specialist neurosurgery unit at a hospital in Munich, Germany on Friday (21May10) after experiencing "seve re pain" and "partial paralysis" during preparations for their rebooted 3 60 Degree world tour. He was immediately referred for emergency back surg ery.
Bono was discharged from the Ludwig Maximilians-University (LMU) Hospit al on Tuesday (25May10) and surgeon Joerg Tonn, who treated the star, has now revealed he was suffering from "severe compression of the sciatic ne rve… a serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc" and that "dur ing surgery we discovered fragments of the disc had travelled into the sp inal canal".
The Edge has now spoken out about his pal’s condition, following the po stponement of all their upcoming tour dates, and he admits he’s thankful Bono received swift treatment.
In a video posted on the band’s official website, The Edge says, "He wa s in a fairly intense program to be ready for the tour, so something in t hat preparation… maybe he just overdid it and hurt himself maybe withou t realising it and it could have got worse.
"But luckily enough he did realise. I think he realised when he could n o longer walk that actually he needed to go to the doctor and thank God h e did because by the time they got to see him and do the scans they reali sed he had got some fairly major damage and had he not done anything abou t it, it could have been very serious and permanent.
"It was well caught. I think we were very relieved to hear that he had gone to the doctor when he did." And the rocker admits all bandmembers will be keeping a close eye on th e singer: "We have to make sure that he does follow the doctors’ orders, because knowing him he will want to take short cuts and get ahead of hims elf. Really from what I understand, he needs to do this in a very methodi cal way. So we will be there to chain him down if needs be."

British model ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY has been tipped to take over from MEGAN FOX in the third TRANSFORMERS movie.

DREW BARRYMORE and GLENN CLOSE were among the big winners at the 35th ann ual Gracie Awards on Tuesday night (25May10), which honour the achievemen ts of women in the entertainment industry.

HULK HOGAN is suing the makers of an American breakfast cereal, accusing bosses of using his image in their Cocoa Pebbles commercials without his consent.
The celebrity wrestler has filed suit against Post Foods executives ove r their Cocoa Smashdown TV ads, in which an animated character resembling Hogan defeats Fred Flintstone in the ring - only to be beaten by The Fli ntstones infant character Bamm-Bamm Rubble.
The lawsuit alleges Hogan "is shown humiliated and cracked into pieces with broken teeth, with the closing banner, ‘Little Pieces… Big Taste!’ " Hogan, who is now selling his own Hulkster food products, claims he has been harmed by "the unauthorised and degrading depictions in the Cocoa S mashdown advertisements", reports TBO.com.

SANDRA BULLOCK’s estranged husband JESSE JAMES is convinced his troubled childhood contributed to his bad behaviour as an adult - alleging his fat her beat him as a kid.
The Hollywood actress walked out on her partner earlier this year (10) after his infidelities were exposed in the press.
James has now told his side of the story in an interview with U.S. news woman Vicki Mabrey, which aired on U.S. TV show Nightline on Tuesday (25M ay10).
The TV mechanic alleges he was the victim of childhood abuse, and fough t back tears as he describes his turbulent relationship with his father.
He says, "My whole childhood I never had a chance to be a kid. I rememb er the clenched-teeth, strained-neck look on his face. He beat my a** pre tty good a bunch of times. Football star, bike builder, Monster Garage TV star - all that stuff is a huge smokescreen so people won’t see that I’m a scared, abused kid, a seven year old.
"I remember my dad laughed when I hit the ground and called me a dummy.
It wasn’t getting the s**t beat out of me… It was the in-between time, the fear of that happening again. I was a terrorised kid. It’s really to ugh for me to think about now, because…(my daughter) Sunny’s the age th at I was=E2=80=A6when my dad broke my arm." James’ father denied the abuse allegations in an email to America’s ABC news.
The star also went on to talk about the emotional issues which led to h im checking into rehab shortly after his split from Bullock, insisting he is not suffering from sex addiction.
He explains, "I don’t think I have a sex addiction where I’m running ar ound trying to have sex with everyone and I can’t stop. I think I do thin gs to sabotage myself, including having extramarital affairs, texting, ov er-working myself, injuring myself, doing stunts and stupid things. I do a lot of things in my life that I shouldn’t be doing that aren’t conduciv e to being a good husband. The affair is just one of them."

Iconic entertainer LIZA MINNELLI can add clothing and jewellery designer to her resume - she has signed a deal to help create a line for the Home Shopping Network (HSN).
The veteran star is teaming up with the interactive retailer to design The Liza Collection, which will include sequined garments inspired by her own wardrobe.

Chance made his TV debut on the American Idol judge’s talk show earlier this month (May10) and he’ll return on Wednesday (26May10) to help DeGen eres launch her latest project, eleveneleven Records.
The singer shot to fame when his performance of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi a t a church talent show was posted online.
DeGeneres says, "Greyson inspired me to start a record label called ele veneleven. He is my first artist and we are making a record together." The youngster has some impressive names behind him - Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary and Lady Gaga’s Svengali Troy Carter will co-represent Chance.

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM frontman JAMES MURPHY took steroids to help him complete the band’s latest album, because he couldn’t hit the high notes.
The rocker was working on the band’s final album This Is Happening, whi ch was released earlier this month (May10), when his voice started to det eriorate.
And Murphy has now admitted he resorted to taking performance enhancing drugs to "cheat" as he recorded the track Dance Yrself Clean.
He tells Britain’s NME, "It was (the) last song I finished, I lost my v oice trying to do it. It’s the highest register I’ve ever sung in.
"I had to sing it with a voice that was completely blown out, but then I took lots of steroids! So I juiced for this record! It’s cheating, I’m cheating! I cheated to sing this song."

PUSSYCAT DOLLS singer NICOLE SCHERZINGER has been crowned the winner of t his year’s (10) DANCING WITH THE STARS.
Scherzinger saw off competition from American figure skater Evan Lysace k and sports broadcaster Erin Andrews during the show’s finale on Tuesday night (25May10).
Andrews came third in the competition after gaining the least amount of votes, leaving the singer and her dance partner Derek Hough to battle it out with Lysacek for the title.
After dancing the jive, Scherzinger scored a perfect 30, with judge Len Goodman saying, "There can only be one winner of Dancing With the Stars.
It should be you." After being named the champion, Scherzinger appeared lost for words, wh ile her professional partner Hough said, "Everyone’s been amazing and I’m so happy!" Other celebrities who took part in the tenth season of the show include reality TV star Kate Gosselin, Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson, comic N iecy Nash, astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Shannen Doherty.

ROLLING STONES rocker RONNIE WOOD has credited his new girlfriend for his 60 days of sobriety.
The guitarist has endured a lengthy battle with alcohol addiction and h as entered a rehabilitation centre seven times over the last 30 years.
But Wood is now on the road to recovery - he hasn’t touched booze or dr ugs for the last two months after attending either a Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous meeting daily.
And he’s thankful for the support of his girlfriend, Ana Araujo, who he started dating earlier this year (10).
He tells Britain’s Daily Mail, "I’ve done 60 days of clean and serene a nd I can’t see any way of stopping. I’m doing 90 meetings in 90 days. I d o a meeting every day. It’s a helluva bloody thing. I go from Surrey all over London - I just go to NA or AA and just keep it going.
"Ana’s a good girl. She is very attractive. She is lovely and very supp ortive. I have to pat myself on the back for it - because it’s a long jou rney, you know." And Wood is also getting sobriety help from his bandmates in the reunit ed The Faces.
He adds, "I’ve got a big strength in the fellowship. It’s good. Glen (M atlock) is on the program as well and is a really good support. And Kenne y’s (Jones) been great, and Mac (Ian McLagan) and Mick (Hucknall)." (KD/W
