TORN’S 2008 DUI CHARGE DISMISSED
A 2008 drink driving charge against RIP TORN has been wiped from the acto r’s record after he completed court-ordered alcohol education classes.
The Men In Black star, real name Elmore Rual Torn, was pulled over by p olice on 14 December, 2008 after he was spotted driving along the breakdo wn lane on a highway in Connecticut.
He failed part of a field sobriety test after giving up halfway, claimi ng the ground wasn’t level enough, and he refused to take a breath test. He pleaded not guilty to allegations of illegal operation of a motor vehi cle while under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane.
A Connecticut judge granted Torn probation and ordered him to enrol in alcohol tutorial sessions, offering to clear the DUI count upon completio n.
The case was reviewed at Bantam Superior Court on Friday (21May10) and Judge Cara Eschuck dismissed the charge after ruling the 79 year old was in compliance with the terms of his probation.
But Torn’s legal problems are far from over - the actor will return to court on Tuesday (25May10) to face charges stemming from his arrest in Ja nuary (10), when he was caught breaking into a Connecticut bank, clutchin g a revolver. The star told cops he thought the building was his home.
He pleaded not guilty to a string of offences in March (10), including carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree c riminal mischief, before checking himself into an alcohol treatment centr e in New York.
