ETHERIDGE’S REGRETS ABOUT PUBLIC SPLIT
MELISSA ETHERIDGE knew she had to come clean about her secret split from actress TAMMY LYNN MICHAELS while promoting her new album - because journ alists kept asking about her "great marriage".
The Come To My Window singer announced last month (Apr10) she had separ ated from Michaels - nine years after they exchanged vows in a commitment ceremony in California.
Etheridge admits she contemplated keeping quiet about the break-up, but the release of her album Fearless Love forced her to open up to the pres s about her love life.
She explains, "(The album) was written before we actually physically se parated, but you know, break-ups just don’t happen overnight.
"When I saw these things were about to collide for a while there I thou ght, ‘I don’t want this to come up on top of the album.’ Then I started d oing interviews and they’re like, ‘You’re such a family girl! Your marria ge is great! What’s the key to a great marriage?’ and I was like, ‘Oh, I can’t sit here and lie.’ But I would have definitely made the timing diff erent."
