THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW STAR LYNN ROBBED

THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW star BETTY LOU LYNN has been robbed in the small t own which inspired the series - after moving there to escape crime.
The 83-year-old actress decided to retire to Mount Airy, North Carolina - the template for the show’s Mayberry, and the birthplace of Andy Griff ith - after being burgled three times in Los Angeles.
But she was given a shock on Sunday (25Apr10) when she once again fell victim to crime - a man snatched her wallet as she was waiting for a taxi home from a grocery store.
Lynn quickly alerted a police officer, who caught the suspect and retur ned the wallet to the star - and she insists she still loves her adopted hometown despite the harrowing incident.
The actress tells the Boston Herald, "A squad car came and a policeman who knew who I was put his arm around me and handed me back my wallet. I never thought I’d see it again.
"I don’t want to hurt Mount Airy’s image. LAPD never caught any of thos e guys (robbers)."

FAN PAYS $8,500 FOR COFFEE WITH DE NIRO

A fan has paid a massive $8,500 (=C2=A35,667) to go for a coffee with ROB ERT DE NIRO.
The Raging Bull star offered up an outing to a coffee shop as a lot for a star-studded charity auction in New York on Thursday night (29Apr10) - and an unnamed bidder pounced on the prize and paid thousands of dollars for a meeting with the movie star.
The sale, which raised money for the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justi ce and Human Rights, also saw a pair of tickets to Sir Elton John’s next Oscars party auctioned for $52,500 (=C2=A335,000).
A visit to the set of hit TV show Mad Men sold for $24,000 (=C2=A316,00 0) and a fedora hat worn by Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones movie seri es fetched $19,500 (=C2=A313,000), according to the New York Daily News.

WHEN WE LEAVE HONOURED AT TRIBECA FESTIVAL

Turkish-German drama WHEN WE LEAVE was the toast of the ninth annual Trib eca Film Festival as it took the top honours at an award ceremony on Thur sday (29Apr10).
Actors Aaron Eckhart and Hope Davis were part of the jury who awarded t he film the Best Narrative Feature prize, while Sibel Kekilli won Best Ac tress for her role as a mum who leaves an abusive husband by fleeing with her son from Turkey to Germany.
A statement from the judging committee says, "(When We Leave) examines one woman’s struggle for personal freedom. It’s a theme that is often exp lored - but rarely told with such humanity, subtlety, craftsmanship or im mediacy." The Best Actor title went to Eric Elmosnino, who portrayed French music ian Serge Gainsbourg in Gainsbourg, Je t’Aime… Moi Non Plus, reports th e Associated Press.
The New York festival, co-founded by Robert De Niro, comes to a close o n Sunday (02May10).

RADCLIFFE HOSTS CHARITY DINNER FOR INJURED STUNTMAN

DANIEL RADCLIFFE has helped his injured HARRY POTTER stunt double raise m oney for medical bills by hosting a charity dinner in London.
The generous star held the gala this week (begs26Apr10) to benefit Davi d Holmes, who suffered severe spinal injuries after taking a fall while f ilming dangerous scenes for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last yea r (09).
Holmes, who stands in for Radcliffe and has worked on all of the franch ise’s installments, is now confined to a wheelchair and cannot work.
Guests paid $150 (=C2=A3100) each for a ticket to attend the dinner and an auction featured a pair of signed boxing gloves donated by Angelina J olie and Brad Pitt, which raised $6,000 (=C2=A34,000) to help pay for the 26 year old’s medical care.

HOPPER’S CO-STARS STUNNED BY CANCER DIAGNOSIS

DENNIS HOPPER’s colleagues on new movie THE LAST FILM FESTIVAL were stunn ed by his recent cancer diagnosis - because the actor seemed to be in "gr eat health" while filming the comedy.
The Easy Rider star went public with his battle in October last year (0 9), revealing he is being treated for prostate cancer.
Hopper sparked fresh fears for his health last month (Mar10) when he wa s deemed too ill to appear at a deposition in his ongoing divorce battle with estranged wife Victoria Duffy - and legal papers revealed he is unli kely to recover.
The veteran actor filmed scenes for The Last Film Festival in early 200 9, just months before his illness was made public - and director Linda Ye llen admits the news was a complete shock.
She tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "He never once complain ed… He is a brilliant, brilliant man. The younger cast members absolute ly worshipped him. He was in great health and had enormous charisma when we were shooting. He eagerly worked long days. So this has all come as a nasty shock."

RIHANNA’S LONG-DISTANCE LOVE TROUBLES

LYNCH EYES NEW DIRECTION FOR BOYZONE WITH NAKED VIDEO

Irish singer SHANE LYNCH didn’t hesitate when he was asked to strip for t he new BOYZONE video - because he saw the saucy scenes as a chance to mes s with the band’s clean-cut image.
In the promo for Love Is a Hurricane, Lynch shed his clothes, and he ad mits it was a deliberate ploy to move Boyzone in a new direction.
He tells Britain’s Live From Studio Five, "I actually suggested it. Me and the boys have always done tame videos and I said to the lads one day, ‘We need to get naked!’ "The album we’ve released is a different step forward for us boys, it i s an obvious transformation musically. AC/DC & IRON MAN RULE EUROPE

AC/DC’s IRON MAN 2 soundtrack is Europe’s top album.
The rockers’ revamped hits album has topped the charts in the U.K., Ire land, Germany and Austria and debuted in the top five in Norway, France, Spain and The Netherlands to take over at number one, ending Lady Gaga’s reign with The Fame.
The all-rocking soundtrack has also entered the U.S. and Canadian album charts at number two. It debuted at one on the newly-released New Zealan d countdown.

Veteran rocker PAUL WELLER is tempted to fight the ageing process with Bo tox jabs - because he is "so vain".
The former The Jam frontman, 51, admits the facial-freezing injections appeal to him because he obsesses over his appearance and hates seeing wr inkles on his face.

DAPPY EMBROILED IN ‘NEW DRUGS SCANDAL’

A representative for N-DUBZ’s DAPPY has dismissed reports the musician wa s ejected from a theme park for smoking cannabis, just a day after the st ar apologised for taking controversial drug mephedrone.
The British rapper was caught on camera taking the substance after a gi g last month (Mar10) and exposed by a U.K. tabloid earlier this week (28A pr10).
Dappy, real name Dino Contostavlos, apologised to fans for his behaviou r and tried to escape the scandal with a visit to England’s Alton Towers amusement park with pals.
Dappy’s group checked into the centre’s hotel but was reportedly forced to leave after other guests allegedly complained of a "funny smell" waft ing from his room, sparking speculation they were smoking marijuana.
An onlooker tells Britain’s The Sun, "He and two others were marched ou t," with a spokesperson for the park adding: "We have a strict no drugs p olicy." But a spokesperson is adamant Dappy wasn’t smoking marijuana - and that the smell came from tobacco cigarettes.

MURPHY CONFIRMS LCD SOUNDSYSTEM SPLIT

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM frontman JAMES MURPHY has confirmed the band’s upcoming a lbum will be their last - because he has no desire to stay in the spotlig ht and become "wildly famous".
The band’s third studio album, This Is Happening, is set to hit stores next month (May10) and Murphy is sure it will be LCD Soundsystem’s final record - because he’s ready to pursue other projects.
He tells Britain’s The Sun, "I guess there’s a million reasons to keep going with the band. It would be a good career choice because we’re in a good position - but it was never about that for me.
"I don’t want to be wildly famous. I like being respected and appreciat ed but I was never in a band to be a pop star. So I don’t want to start p ulling back and saying I don’t want to be that big. It’s a negative. It’s a stop, I like to go. Just go as hard as I can for the next year and a h alf and then do something else.
"I’ve just turned 40, I have to follow my other dreams. I feel we’ve do ne the best we can with LCD - and I don’t feel there’s quite as much to p rove. I want to find another challenge for myself." Murphy founded dance-punk label DFA Records and last year (09) wrote th e musical score for Noah Baumbach’s film Greenberg.

MCCARTNEY’S LATE-NIGHT PARLIAMENT VISITS

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY is a keen follower of British politics and often visit s London’s historic Houses of Parliament late at night if he is bored.
The former Beatle has been watching politicians debate from the public gallery ever since his comedian pal Kenny Lynch introduced him to the exp erience.
McCartney tells Britain’s Absolute radio, "We used to say (to Lynch), ‘ What are you doing?’ He’d say, ‘Oh I’m going to the Houses of Parliament tonight.’ We said, ‘Get out of here!’ He said, ‘Oh yeah, didn’t you know when you go past (clock tower) Big Ben, if the light is on at the top of Big Ben it means they’re sitting in Parliament.’ "So I always look for it now, and if I ever see it and I’ve got nothing to do for the next half hour, you can go in." But McCartney’s visits have become less frequent after the government i ntroduced stricter security measures - and he was mobbed by guards during his last late-night trip.
He explains, "It was hilarious, because it was late at night and they w ere all there… I mean they took my photo and did the things, checked me out, but all they all wanted was a photo with me.
"So it ended up with me and about 20 security people, 11 o’clock at nig ht, all going ‘Cheese!’, ‘Go on, another one’, ‘Hey, use his camera’, ‘He y, come on!’"

BADU PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO DISORDERLY CONDUCT

ERYKAH BADU has pleaded not guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct afte r a female bystander made an official complaint about the singer’s public nudity during a controversial video shoot.
The R&B star performed a full striptease in front of stunned strangers as she walked along Dealey Plaza, a tourist hotspot in Dallas, Texas wher e President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The footage appears in her new Window Seat promo.
One woman who watched Badu bare all complained to cops, and Dallas poli ce officials charged the star with disorderly conduct.
But Badu is adamant she didn’t do anything wrong and entered a plea of not guilty in court on Wednesday (28Apr10), according to the Dallas Morni ng News.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK has been voted the greatest movie sequel of all t ime.
The second installment in the Star Wars franchise, starring Harrison Fo rd, has proved a fan favourite in a LoveFilm.com poll to find the best fi lm follow-up.
The 1980 movie fought off tough competition from Terminator 2: Judgment Day and The Godfather Part II, which came second and third respectively.

VALDERRAMA & BELLE FILM ALL-STAR PSA FOR CHILE

WILMER VALDERRAMA and CAMILLA BELLE have recruited a string of screen sta rs, including ROSARIO DAWSON and DEMI LOVATO, for a new campaign to benef it earthquake-stricken Chile.
The charitable pair founded IAmTheCountry.com to encourage American cit izens to donate to the relief effort in the South American country, which was hit by a devastating earthquake in February (10).
And they’ve convinced their showbiz pals Dawson and Lovato - as well as Topher Grace, Twilight actress Nikki Reed and Alexander Skarsgard - to f ilm a public service announcement (PSA) to back the campaign.
In a post on their website, Valderrama and Belle write, "We are joining forces to bring light to and raise awareness of the many ways YOU can he lp the country of Chile in their moment of desperation.
"This inspired us to produce a PSA to use as a platform to show the sim ple ways we can all help the organisations that are providing assistance to the people of Chile."

SCREAM 2 REWRITTEN AFTER SCRIPT LEAK

Moviemaker WES CRAVEN was forced to rework the opening scenes to SCREAM 2 - after the original script was leaked online.
The 1997 horror movie, starring Neve Campbell and David Arquette, was a box office smash, raking in $172 million (=C2=A3115 million) - but direc tor/producer Craven admits the story wasn’t as he’d originally planned.
He and writer Kevin Williamson had to frantically rewrite the script af ter it mysteriously appeared on the internet.
And Craven is going to great lengths to ensure the top-secret storyline for Scream 4 - which is set to hit movie theatres next April (11) - isn’ t leaked.
He tells Entertainment Weekly, "We have been playing CIA with trying to keep everything secret, and we haven’t put any pages out from the curren t version of the script, except for things we’ve already discarded.
"Our first experience with casting this time around, the sides (portion s of the script used for auditions) that we used were put on the Internet the same afternoon. It was bad back when we made the other movies, too.
"On Scream 2, we had the first 40 pages of the script show up on the In ternet the night they arrived from Kevin, and we had to do backflips to r ewrite the opening."

KLUM & SEAL PLANNING TO RETURN TO MEXICO FOR WEDDING PARTY

HEIDI KLUM and husband SEAL are heading back to Mexico to renew their wed ding vows next month (May10) - a year after the swine flu pandemic kept t hem away from the romantic spot where they married.
The couple vowed to return to Mexico annually to celebrate the 2005 uni on, but had to scrap plans last year (09).
Klum says, "Because of the swine flu, we didn’t go to Mexico… That wa s when it had just broken out." The couple will celebrate its sixth wedding party in Mexico on 10 May ( 10).
