HENDRIX’S FAVOURITE COAT GOES ON DISPLAY FOR THE FIRST TIME

A coat belonging to JIMI HENDRIX has gone on display for the first time a t the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
The patchwork leather coat is among personal items Hendrix’s sister Jan ie has donated to the museum curators for their upcoming Up Where We Belo ng: Native Musicians in Popular Culture exhibition, which opens on 1 July (10).
A museum spokesperson says, "These are among the very few of the rock l egend’s possessions sent home to his family from his apartment in New Yor k after he died in 1970. Though Hendrix’s father asked that all of his so n’s belongings be sent home to Seattle, including a hundred guitars, scan t few arrived.
"The coat was an obvious favourite of Hendrix’s, as seen from the deep creases around the elbows, dark demarcation sweat lines and well-worn hem ; until today, the coat has never been displayed, nor have photos of it b een published." Hendrix’s grandmother was Cherokee.
