DOWNEY, JR. FELT SAFE IN PRISON
ROBERT DOWNEY, JR. has opened up about his time in prison - insisting he always felt "safe" when he was behind bars.
The Iron Man star spent years struggling with a raging drug habit, and his addiction landed him a four-month jail term in 1997.
The actor went back to prison again in 1999 and served one year of a th ree-year sentence - he was freed after a judge ruled his collective time spent behind bars after various arrests qualified him for early release.
And in a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Downey, Jr. admits he was never scared of prison - because incarceration kept him safely awa y from drugs.
He tells the publication, "When the door clicks shut, then you are safe .. There is nothing aside from a rogue correctional officer that can do yo u harm if you have the right cellie (cellmate). You are actually in the s afest place on Earth. Safe from the intruders (drugs)."
