QUAID AND HIS WIFE JAILED
Actor RANDY QUAID and his wife have been jailed after testing the legal l imits of California lawmakers with a series of court no-shows.
The Brokeback Mountain star and his wife Evi were in court in Santa Bar bara on Monday (26Apr10), and were jailed to make sure they returned for a hearing into their 2009 fraud and burglary case on Wednesday (28Apr10).
Superior Court Judge Frank Ochoa told the couple they had been disrespe ctful by refusing to show up for arranged court dates, including one they missed earlier this month (Apr10), and had them taken into custody. He s et bail at $100,000 (=C2=A362,500).
The Quaids were arrested in September (09) after failing to pay a $10,0 00 (=C2=A36,250) hotel bill after a stay at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara.
Arrest warrants were issued for the couple when Quaid and his wife fail ed to show up in court on 12 April (10). They have had a number of warran ts issued for their arrest over past court no-shows - each one was later quashed.
The pair ignored five orders to appear in court last year before pleadi ng not guilty to all charges in December (09).
