ELBOW BACKS PINK FLOYD COURT BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:30 pm

ELBOW frontman GUY GARVEY is delighted PINK FLOYD won a battle with music label bosses over online record sales - insisting the rockers were right to fight for the "integrity" of their albums.
The Wall hitmakers took executives at their EMI label to court this mon th (Mar10) arguing the company should not be allowed to dismantle the gro up’s albums and sell individual tracks online.
The musicians won their case and a judge ordered EMI chiefs to hand ove r extra cash and banned them from selling the band’s tracks individually on the web without the rockers’ permission.
And Garvey is delighted by the court victory - because it gives hope to other bands who find themselves in the same situation.
He says, "I was over the moon when I heard that Pink Floyd had won thei r legal battle with EMI last week. It wasn’t because I saw it as a David v Goliath victory - Pink Floyd are pretty gigantic - but because, as a mu sician, the integrity of the album means everything to me. That’s the thi ng with an album: you spend a big chunk of your life making it and you th ink about every note, bleep, squeak and crackle. When you’ve put your hea rt and soul into something, you want people to hear it as it was intended ..
"The integrity of the artists making that music should be respected. Th at’s why I’m knocked out that Pink Floyd won: the album is an art form th at deserves protection."

"When we started Primal Scream, Alex was a huge influence on us, and he still is. Even if he’d only ever produced the first Cramps album he’d st ill be one of my rock ‘n’ roll heroes. But he did a lot more than that.
"He just made so many great records, and they were crazy rock ‘n’ roll records. But they were also art records and beautiful records, mournful r ecords, sad records, joyous records. What I’m trying to say is that Alex Chilton was one of the greats."

WHITE TURNED DOWN DANCING OFFER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

Veteran actress BETTY WHITE turned down the chance to appear on DANCING W ITH THE STARS over fears she would "embarrass the audience." The 88 year old admits she has been approached several times by produce rs of the show, asking her to hit the dancefloor.
But White is adamant she won’t be donning her dancing shoes any time so on - because 83-year-old actress Cloris Leachman filled the quota for vet eran stars when she appeared on the seventh season in 2008.
White tells U.S. newsman Larry King, "I have been asked. And I’ve thank ed them very profusely. And I said, no thank you. I think Cloris Leachman took care of that whole department. It would be fun and I would love it.
But I think there comes a time when… I don’t want to embarrass the aud ience, but Cloris did it and she did fine. So I think she’s taken care of our age bracket."

TATUM: ‘G.I. JOE SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN RUSHED’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:24 pm

CHANNING TATUM brushed off negative reviews of his 2009 blockbuster G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA - insisting the script was "rushed" because of the writers’ strike.

And he hopes the upcoming sequel will be better received, because the w riters will have more time to focus on getting the storyline right.
He tells Australia’s Herald Sun newspaper, "They just found writers, I just found out. I hope they take their time with it and really get it rig ht because they really had to rush it last time because of the writers’ s trike. They really want to make it great. And I’m here for them whenever they’re ready."
