LOVE SNARLING AND TRIUMPHANT AT HOLE U.S. COMEBACK SHOW

Rocker COURTNEY LOVE made her return to the American concert stage on Fri day (19Mar10) by playing her first U.S. HOLE show of the century at the S outh by Southwest festival in Texas.
The singer/songwriter and her new band headlined the SPIN@Stubb=E2=80=99 s party, and Love took to the stage wearing a feather tiara and a sash th at read ‘BEWARE’.
Hole opened their set with their new hit Skinny Little B**ch before the frontwoman offered the snarling introduction, "Hey kids, we=E2=80=99re H ole." The set was largely uneventful until Love told the audience, which incl uded actress Mischa Barton, to "Shut the f**k up, get serious" as she ope ned the song Letter to God, and choked back tears as she sang.
She closed the show by insisting the new-look Hole is here to stay and her bid to go solo is over, telling fans, "This is the way it=E2=80=99s g oing to be for a long f**king time, get used to it. We=E2=80=99re Hole wh ether you like it or not," and joked, "I=E2=80=99d stage dive, but I=E2=80 =99m far too elderly."

BOSTON STAR SCHOLZ SUES NEWSPAPER OVER DELP SUICIDE ARTICLE

BOSTON star TOM SCHOLZ is suing the Boston Herald newspaper and two colum nists for defamation after they suggested he was partly responsible for l ate bandmate BRAD DELP’s 2007 suicide.
Scholz took offence to Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa’s insinuations in the ir Inside Track column following the Delp tragedy.
One article, headlined ‘Pal’s Snub Made Delp Do It: Boston Rocker’s Ex- wife Speaks’, suggested Delp committed suicide after Scholz fired his clo se friend Fran Cosmo from the Boston touring line-up.
They wrote that Delp=E2=80=99s ex-wife, Micki, blamed Scholz for the si nger=E2=80=99s death.
In his legal documents the guitarist states the defendants "falsely sug gested in headlines, content and via innuendo" that Delp was under pressu re to perform with Boston as well as a Beatles tribute band featuring Cos mo. The libel case also claims Fee and Raposa were purposely slandering S cholz on behalf of a publicist friend who represented the tribute band, a ccording to TheRockRadio.com.
Howard Cooper, the lawyer representing Scholz, says, "We have filed thi s complaint in an effort to correct the very substantial defamation by th e Boston Herald and its reporters of Tom Scholz at the time when his form er Boston bandmate took his own life.
"It is unfortunate that some chose that tragic occasion to sensationali ze a false story about Mr. Scholz." Scholz has already sued Micki Delp, who under oath denied ever making t he statements to the Herald’s columnists. That case is still pending, acc ording to Boston.com Delp died from from carbon monoxide asphyxiation.

BIG STAR TO PLAY ON FOLLOWING CHILTON’S DEATH

BIG STAR’s showcase at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas o n Saturday night (20Mar10) will go on as planned, despite the death of ba ndmate ALEX CHILTON.
The cult band’s Jody Stephens admits he and fellow Big Star members Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer have been left "numb" after learning of Chilto n’s death on Wednesday (17Mar10), but the group plans to play on.
The group will gather with original Big Star bassist Andy Hummel for a panel discussion at the Austin Convention Center on Saturday afternoon be fore performing at Austin’s Antone’s hours later.
M. Ward, John Doe, and R.E.M.’s Mike Mills have signed up to join in th e Big Star show, which is now likely to be a tribute show for Chilton. (K

MAGAZINE APOLOGISES TO BEYONCE OVER BOGUS INTERVIEW

The editor of German magazine Neon has printed an apology to BEYONCE afte r running an erroneous article about the singer and her marriage to rap s uperstar JAY-Z.
The publication bosses have retracted the piece and the journalist who penned it has been fired.
The article featured details about a bogus marriage contract and Beyonc e’s controversial feelings about white producers.
An apology statement from Neon’s editors Michael Ebert and Timm Klotzek reads, "We do have serious doubts in the truth of many statements of the interview of Ms. Beyonce Knowles published in Neon, Issue January/2010.
"The article was written by freelancer Ingo Mocek. The editors-in-chief have confronted Ingo Mocek with these doubts. Ingo Mocek was not able to verify certain statements, particularly the statements regarding a marri age contract of Ms. Knowles. Therefore, we assume that the interview did not take place as claimed by Ingo Mocek.
"Neon dissociates itself from the content of the interview with Ms. Kno wles. Neon subscribes to a high level standard of truthful journalism. Si nce Ingo Mocek has violated these standards severely, Neon has terminated all relationships with Ingo Mocek with immediate effect.
"We sincerely apologize to Ms. Knowles and her management for all perso nal inconvenience that may have arisen due to the publication of this int erview."

MURPHY’S CHEMIST EXPOSES DRUG FEARS

A Los Angeles chemist is questioning remarks BRITTANY MURPHY’s widower ma de about his late wife’s drug intake, revealing he stopped serving the co uple and the actress’ mother over fears "there was going to be an acciden t".
Eddie Bubar, who owns Eddie’s Pharmacy, reveals he filled more than 100 prescriptions for the Clueless star, her husband Simon Monjack and her m um Sharon between January 2008 and August 2009 under various aliases.
The pharmacy boss has told investigators a courier picked the various p rescriptions up in an envelope approximately every two weeks with the nam e ‘Lola Manilow Murphy’ written on it. He tells TMZ.com that Lola was Mur phy’s pseudonym.
Bubar cut the trio off four months before the actress’ December (09) de ath, partly because he believed they were using multiple pharmacies to fi ll scripts, according to the website.
He says, "We thought there was going to be an accident there." But Monjack insists he and his late wife were the ones who ended the re lationship with Bubar and Eddie’s Pharmacy.
Bubar’s comments come just a day after Monjack told U.S. news show Acce ss Hollywood he never saw his late wife use drugs, stating, "Brittany was someone that had never used a drug in her life." Medications were found in the actress’ system at the time of her death, but her 20 December (09) death has been ruled an accident following an a utopsy.

TV psychiatrist DR. PHIL MCGRAW has become a grandfather - his daughter-i n-law gave birth to a baby girl on Thursday (18Mar10).
Little Avery Elizabeth was born to Jay McGraw and his wife Erica, a for mer Playboy model.
The proud first-time grandpa announced the happy news on his Twitter.co m blog, writing, "SHE’S HERE! OMG! AVERY ELIZABETH MCGRAW…" His son Jay later ‘tweeted’ "Totally beautiful girl!! Erica was amazing through the entire experience!!"

WALTZ TO DIRECT

Oscar winner CHRISTOPH WALTZ is to make his directorial debut with a Germ an-language movie.
The Austrian star of Inglourious Basterds will direct Up and Away from his own screenplay - and is considering taking on a supporting role in th e film, which chronicles the love life of a dating game show’s host.
Waltz has adapted Meike Winnemuth and Peter Praschl=E2=80=99s novel Auf und Davon for the movie.

MONJACK UPSET BY OSCARS DATE OUTRAGE

BRITTANY MURPHY’s widower has fired back at critics who blasted him for t aking a pretty date to the Oscars less than three months after his wife’s death, insisting his companion was the actress’ longtime best pal.
Producer/photographer Simon Monjack was invited to attend the Oscars to witness the Academy’s In Memoriam tribute to his late wife - and he was heavily criticised for showing up with another woman.
Monjack had planned on taking Murphy’s mother Sharon to the Academy Awa rds but when she announced she was too sick to accompany him, the Brit as ked his late wife’s friend Hayley to be his guest.
He says, "(She was my wife’s) dear friend, a childhood friend." And he’s appalled by the criticism that has been levelled at him.
In an exclusive interview with U.S. news show Access Hollywood, he says , "I’ve heard everything, and she is pretty… I wouldn’t walk down the r ed carpet with a non-beautiful woman." Monjack used the TV interview to clear up other "ridiculous" reports, l inking him romantically to his mother-in-law, who lives with him.
He states, "We don’t have sex, number one; number two she is a woman th at has toxic neuropathy, which means she can barely walk. I live downstai rs, she lives upstairs."

ANNA NICOLE LOSES 14-YEAR-OLD ESTATE CASH BATTLE

Tragic actress/model ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s long-running battle with her dea d husband’s estate appears to be over - federal appeals court judges have ruled the star should get nothing Before she died in 2007, Smith was asking for more than $300 million (G BP188 million) from oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall’s estate.
She maintained Marshall promised her the cash during their 14-month mar riage, which ended with the 89-year-old’s death in 1995.
But, on Friday (19Mar10), officials at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Ap peals in California agreed with the decision of a probate court judge in Texas, who previously ruled that Marshall did not intend to leave the lat e star any money.
The Texas probate court ruled against Smith after a five-month jury tri al.
The model was awarded $450 million - later reduced to $88 million - fro m the Marshall estate when she filed for bankruptcy in 1996, but the new ruling to give the Smith estate nothing now stands.
An attorney for the Marshall estate says, "We’re very happy with the op inion. We’re hoping this is the end of the road."

EVANS LANDS CAPTAIN AMERICA ROLE=20

FANTASTIC FOUR star CHRIS EVANS has won the race to become comic book sup erhero CAPTAIN AMERICA on the big screen, according to industry reports.
The actor was among the favourites to land the coveted role, and now Th e Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Evans will be the colourful charac ter.
The news is sure to upset comic book purists, who wanted a more mature actor to play the role.
Alex Ross, the artist who redesigned Captain America for Marvel Comics, recently went public with his thoughts on who should play the character.
He told Entertainment Weekly magazine, "We’ve been saying for years, if you don’t sign Jon Hamm to play this part, you’re crazy.
"Captain America is supposed to be the patriarch of the Marvel universe .. To get a guy in his early to mid-20s is only thinking about where the c haracter began, not what he ultimately needs to become." Evans will reportedly battle The Matrix and The Wolfman villain Hugo We aving in the first Captain America movie.

50 CENT LAUGHS OFF SEX TAPE LAWSUIT

50 CENT has dismissed a lawsuit filed against him by the ex-girlfriend of rival rapper RICK ROSS after he released a spoof version of a sex tape s he recorded in 2008.
Lastonia Leviston took legal action against the In Da Club star last mo nth (Feb10), accusing him of posting the explicit video on his website la st year (09).
In papers filed in New York’s Manhattan Supreme Court, Leviston claimed 50 blurred out her then-lover Maurice Murray’s face and altered the tape to depict himself as his online character Pimpin’ Curly wearing a curly wig and blue robe, while adding his own narration.
She is demanding compensation for the unauthorised use of her name or i mage, as well as emotional distress caused by the public release of the c lip.
But 50 Cent has laughed off the legal threat, insisting Leviston should be looking to punish Ross instead for allegedly referring to his ex as a "call girl" in his music.
He says, "That wasn’t me, that was Pimpin’ Curly! "A person tries to say you’ve done mental harm to them, then they may w ant to consider the recordings of Rick Ross saying that she’s an actual c all girl… So how distraught is she that a tape went out?"

LUDACRIS STAYS ON TOP OF HIS TAXES

Rapper LUDACRIS has vowed never to fall foul of America’s Internal Revenu e Service (IRS) because he always stays on top of his taxes.
Hip-hop stars including Nas, Snoop Dogg and Method Man have all been na med and shamed as tax dodgers - but the Stand Up hitmaker, real name Chri stopher Bridges, insists he has no intention of adding his name to that l ist.
He tells Fuse TV, "I pay more in taxes than most people would ever imag ine. I guarantee you, you will never hear about Ludacris owing the damn I RS no damn money (sic)." Nas reportedly owes $3.4 million (=C2=A32.1 million) in taxes, while Sn oop Dogg is alleged to owe almost $600,000 (=C2=A3375,000).
Method Man failed to file income tax returns for three years from 2004, leading to the Wu-Tang Clan star being arrested and charged with tax eva sion in New York last year (09).

DRAKE ADOPTS JAY-Z AS MENTOR IN WAYNE’S ABSENCE

Rap newcomer DRAKE has another hip-hop superstar to turn to while his men tor LIL WAYNE serves time in prison - JAY-Z has been providing him with w ords of advice too.
The Lollipop hitmaker took Drake under his wing and signed him to his Y oung Money record label last year (09), but earlier this month (Mar10) he was sentenced to 12 months behind bars for weapons charges.
But Drake has found another mentor in Jay-Z after working with the Empi re State of Mind star on the icon’s The Blueprint 3 album and teaming up for a collaboration for his own upcoming debut, Thank Me Later.
He tells MTV News, "He definitely has guided me a lot, as far as his wo rds and his advice. We have a real funny rapport. I always enjoy my conve rsations with Jay. It’s good.
"When Jay says something, it’s different from anyone else. It just mean s that much more. Jay just has this aura about him. It’s like, ‘That’s wh y you’re Jay-Z.’ For a guy like me who grew up wanting to be Jay-Z, it’s influential - it’s very, very influential. We have great conversations. J ust life. I’m not (the) type of character that you have to sit down and i nstruct. I’m pretty aware of myself and how to go through this whole proc ess (music business). The conversations are just funny and good and settl es my mind."

GUCCI MANE MENTORING FELLOW CELLMATES IN JAIL

Imprisoned rapper GUCCI MANE is helping his fellow inmates turn their liv es around while behind bars by sharing the lessons he’s learned from his own troubled background.
The hip-hop star, real name Radric Davis, was freed from the Atlanta Co unty Jail in Georgia in March 2009 after serving six months for breaking the rules of his probation, relating to previous charges of assault and d rug possession. He was ordered back to jail in November (09) on another c ount of parole violation and is currently serving a 12-month prison sente nce.
But he’s using his brushes with the law to school others and help his c ellmates learn how to stay out of trouble when they walk free from jail.
He tells the Associated Press, "I try to take a couple of these young g uys under my wing and tell them what I’ve learned, because you can’t teac h nobody if you don’t know anything." The rapper admits he’s adopted a new motto to live by: "Before I make a n action, think about the consequences. … Any decision I make is a heav y decision. I got a lot of people who depend on me. Everything I do has s o much weight on it." And Mane has found other productive uses for his time in prison: "Unfor tunately I’ve been to jail a couple times. Anytime I come in it’s difficu lt to make music, write songs. This time, I have a peace within me. I’ve been so excited to get out. I’ve written about 50 to 60 songs." (MT/WNWA/

SIMPSON WANTS SECOND SEASON OF PRICE OF BEAUTY

JESSICA SIMPSON has warned fans not to expect any new music from her in t he near future - because she’s focusing all her efforts on turning her re ality TV show THE PRICE OF BEAUTY into a successful series.
The programme follows the singer/actress on her travels across the glob e as she learns about local beauty regimes and glamour culture in differe nt countries, documenting the ideologies of African tribeswomen and Japan ese Geishas.
And Simpson, who stars in the show with her longtime hairstylist Ken Pa ves and pal Casey Cobb, is hoping VH1 network bosses give her the green l ight to proceed with a second series.
She tells MTV News, "Right now, I’m promoting this (show), and hopefull y we’ll be doing a season two and hopefully just travel more." Simpson coyly reveals she’s also working on a number of other TV projec ts, the content of which may come as a surprise to her fans: "I’m putting my hands in different things, trying to executive-produce some show idea s. I think people will be very shocked to see what might happen in my lif e next."

ATONEMENT: THE OPERA

ATONEMENT author IAN MCEWAN is turning the bestselling book into an opera following the success of its 2007 film adaptation starring KEIRA KNIGHTL EY.
The book, which was released in 2001, follows a love affair doomed by a child’s misunderstanding.
Director Joe Wright’s movie, also starring James McAvoy, landed seven O scar nominations and won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
Now writer McEwan is working on an operatic version with composer Micha el Berkeley and poet Craig Raine - and he promises the finished show will be a grand affair.
He says, "It’s not a chamber piece, that’s for sure." Theatre owners in the U.K. Germany and the U.S. are reportedly interest ed in staging the Atonement opera and are eyeing a 2013 premiere. (MT/WNB
